00:00Distance runner Colin Pereira is on a mission to win the Barbados Marathon
00:04after what he described as a steady year in the sport.
00:072024 has been steady in terms of training keeping like 70 75 miles a
00:13week. No big peak in performance as yet maybe for Barbados Marathon December 6
00:19I'll get my big peak. I wanted to peak at UEA half marathon however I got sick
00:24with gastro the week before so yeah all the training will get to Barbados
00:29after that. What are your objectives for Barbados? Well I ran UEA 6 and I ran
00:36116 so the goal is 111, 112 at Barbados Marathon. It would be a dream for his
00:42coach Brian May that if he does even better than that.
00:46Christmas wish for Mr. Pereira to come back from Barbados giving me a sub-one thing.
00:54Pereira says his consistency has been his biggest strength even on rainy days
00:58and the results of this past year has somewhat represented what he had been
01:02doing in training. The highlight of my year really has just been consistent
01:07throughout the year. You know I have I got no injuries I go to every race and I
01:12know I can achieve this. To me that is my highlight compared to years before
01:15where I've gotten injured and I don't worry about my fit but this year I've
01:20hold steady even though I may not have been with the Romani and the Tefari
01:25right next to them. I ride there and my training has been steady no injury. It's
01:31not been an easy period to manage for the athlete who has now joined the
01:35marathon committee and is in the process of planning the 2025 competition. After
01:40attending so many races, this is my maybe my fourth year race of the year, you kind of
01:45tend to know what you want at a race. So you want the race to start on time, you
01:50want eat some drinks after you finish eat fruits, you want people to have a good
01:56time. So the management aspect of the racing comes easily because what I ask
02:01myself what do I want at a race when I attend. So there's where the transition
02:05from athlete to management and then hopefully in the future coaching as well
02:09which has already started. His coach has also had to manage planning. Thus far not
02:15that much. The only injuries I've had so far is just before some races he got sick
02:21so it really impacted on his performance especially like a newbie going there.
02:28Both Pereira and his coach believe a sub 15 5k is on the horizon and to do it
02:34would mean they will be joining an illustrious club of runners including
02:37Tefari Waljon and Nicholas Romani who will also be in Barbados this weekend.
