She may be retired from international duty, but fast bowler Shakera Selman is still plying her trade at the domestic level for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the WCPL.

As she gears up for the tournament which begins on Wednesday 21st August, she dropped by on the Morning Edition Programme to chat about all things WCPL.
Transcript
00:00On the eve of the WCPL tournament bowling off,
00:03Guyana Amazon Warriors pace bowler Shakira Selmon
00:06is ready and excited for the tournament to begin.
00:23Selmon is hoping that she can be part of a big achievement
00:26for the Amazon Warriors franchise.
00:30As Royals have won WCPL once already,
00:34TKR have done that already as well.
00:36So Guyana Amazon Warriors is the only team
00:38that has not won to date.
00:40I really hope that this could be our year
00:42where we take the trophy.
00:44But I think we have a very balanced team.
00:45She knows though that it won't be an easy task
00:48and is wary of the quality of her opponents.
00:51Both of the other teams are really strong.
00:53Of course with Royals they have Hayley Matthews
00:56and we know the type of form that Hayley Matthews is in.
00:59We also know that she's a player who can take the game
01:01away from you and she did that last year
01:03alongside Amanda Jade Wellington.
01:06But when you look at the trend, that team, the TKR team,
01:09it's a very exciting team.
01:11They are supposed to have Meg Landon joining them
01:13and she was one of the best captains in the world.
01:16There were a number of cups under her.
01:18But Deandra Daughtry of course is leading that team
01:21and she's just come out of retirement.
01:23So she was just in the West Indies camp.
01:25She may be coming into this tournament with a lot of form.
01:27There are lots of exciting players on all the teams
01:29and we have to be wary of them.
01:30In terms of personal goals for the tournament,
01:32Selman is simply hoping to contribute to the team
01:35in whatever way she can.
01:37Doing whatever the captain requires of me,
01:39whatever they need me to do to help the team
01:42to finally cross the line.
01:44I pride myself on my fielding.
01:46Hopefully I can still field as well as I used to
01:48when I was playing for West Indies.
01:50Hopefully I can take a few wickets for Guyana
01:53and the Zone Warriors as well,
01:56Selman and her Guyana-Amazon Warriors teammates
01:59take the field in their first game
02:01on Wednesday, August 21st
02:03at the Briar-Lara Cricket Academy
02:05in the WCPL's opening game
02:07against the reigning champions Barbados Royals.
