00:00West Indies captain Samara Ramnath is back home from the under-19 women's
00:04World Cup in Malaysia. It was a tough one for the young ladies in Maroon who made
00:08an exit from the tournament following the Super Six stage. Whatever the case
00:11the experience meant a lot to the all-rounder.
00:14Yeah first of all it's an honour for me to represent and play for West Indies with
00:18pride and passion in this World Cup. It's an incredible experience playing at
00:23this international level and for me I think I just take everything at the World
00:27Cup as a learning experience to find ways to better myself as a player.
00:31At the World Cup Ramnath took 4 for 6 from four overs against Malaysia with that
00:35being the only win for the Caribbean team. According to Ramnath the Windies
00:39women can learn a lot from the back-to-back world champions.
00:42For me okay let me look back at the World Cup I think you think that West Indian lack I
00:46think it was consistency. Looking back at the World Cup I think India they kept a
00:49consistent approach and attitude throughout the entire game and I think
00:53that's something that we West Indian lack as well as just having confidence
00:55in ourselves. Speaking about that how did you bond with the rest of your
01:01teammates as captain? For me at the beginning it was really difficult
01:04because it was my first time leading a team and I think all of us as you know
01:09come from different territories so it was a bit difficult for me at the
01:12beginning but in Malaysia I think we spent a lot of time together whether it
01:17was at training sessions, team meetings or just relaxing off the field and I
01:21think we had a really good bond together and I just bring us to you know know each
01:25other a little bit more. The 17-year-old knows what it's like to perform on the
01:28big stage since she has seven T20 matches under her belt with TKR in the
01:33WCPL but that's not enough as she wants to reach even further. For me it's all
01:38about what I represent in West Indian women's senior team but I think this
01:41wouldn't be possible without hard work and determination as well as the support
01:44from my family because without them I wouldn't be here today. For Ramnath
01:48education is also very important as such she has to make time for her studies and
01:53cricket. Yeah I'm currently at Saraswati Girls Hindu College I'm a form 6 student
01:58it's a bit challenging you know balancing cricket as well as school but
02:02I think it's all about time management and discipline and for me it's all about
02:06well for me I just try to get ahead of my schoolwork and then when it comes to
02:11tournament times and training times you know I'm ahead of it so it's just all
02:14about time management and discipline. Ramnath is currently playing for
02:18Cadrac Achievers in the Trinidad and Tobago Women's Cricket Association
