Showers ease overnight, becoming more confined to the east coast, with some longer spells of rain coming in from the North Sea. Some large areas of cloud develop along the east coast as well as across large parts of Wales and south west England. On Friday, some outbreaks of rain will affect parts of south east England through the morning. – This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the evening of 30/05/24. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Aidan McGivern.

00:00 Hi there. Drier and sunnier weather is on the way but still a few showers to talk about
00:07 for the overnight period and in some places during Friday as well. Plenty of showers on
00:12 the map then as we start off Thursday evening but increasingly overnight those showers have
00:16 become more confined to the east coast, perhaps some longer spells of rain coming in from
00:21 the North Sea at times, certainly a lot of cloud in the east. That's going to keep temperatures
00:24 up at 11 or 12 Celsius overnight in the east along with the breeze as well. But further
00:31 west with drier and clearer weather arriving, well we could get down to something like 6
00:36 Celsius, somewhere like sheltered parts of Scotland. But we've got also higher pressure
00:42 moving in here so increasingly settled weather arriving from the west and north-west over
00:48 the next couple of days. However, it's in the east and south-east where we'll still
00:52 see some occluded fronts and the influence of low pressure bringing some outbreaks of
00:57 rain or showers during Friday and Saturday. Certainly an unsettled start in the east and
01:02 south-east on Friday morning, a keen breeze from the North Sea, a lot of cloud, showery
01:07 rain on and off. Those showers could turn heavy for a time into the afternoon as well
01:11 if we get enough warmth developing. But at the same time we're going to see drier and
01:18 sunnier weather across northern and western parts of the UK, certainly compared with the
01:22 last few days, plenty of fine weather. Still the chance of some cloud building anywhere
01:27 from central Scotland into northern England, parts of Wales and somewhere like Wales and
01:33 the Midlands could still get the odd light shower. But for the vast majority away from
01:37 the east and south-east it's a fine Friday and with the sunny spells developing temperatures
01:42 reach the high teens and low twenties in places. Glasgow 20 or 21 Celsius, Barnstable 20 Celsius
01:49 there. So a fine day to come for many and feeling warm in the sunshine but we've still
01:54 got that cloud and that nagging North Sea wind to contend with in the east. That will
01:59 still drive some showery rain into the far east of England, somewhere like Norfolk, Suffolk,
02:04 Essex, perhaps Kent as well into the start of Saturday. But for the vast majority elsewhere
02:09 it's clear spells overnight and with lighter winds as well and a cool airflow in place.
02:16 Cloud temperatures will drop a bit further I think, fairly widely in the west, 9 or 10
02:21 Celsius, but in sheltered parts mid-single figures and some sheltered glens of Scotland
02:26 could get down to 3 or 4 Celsius. So a fresh start to Saturday but plenty of sunshine first
02:32 thing for Scotland, Northern Ireland, much of northern and western England as well as
02:35 Wales seeing those blue skies. Not entirely sunny into the afternoon, some cloud will
02:41 develop and also the odd light shower couldn't be ruled out, somewhere like Wales or the
02:44 Midlands once again. But the most frequent showers will still affect parts of Norfolk,
02:50 Suffolk, Kent, Essex for example along with that cool wind from the North Sea. Where we've
02:55 got lighter winds and sunny skies elsewhere, temperatures up to 18 to 21 Celsius, feeling
03:01 very pleasant in the summer sunshine because by this stage we're into a new meteorological
03:06 season and of course the start of every season brings with it new wonders and joys but also
03:13 new challenges and to help make the most of the summer months we recommend you stay prepared
03:20 and you can find tips on how to do that on the Met Office website. Bye bye.
