00:00Welcome to your weekend weather update from the Met Office.
00:03Very little rain for most of us this weekend, but plenty of mist, cloud and some haziness
00:08thanks to some Saharan dust, so still plenty to get our teeth into.
00:12The bigger picture shows the UK really in three zones.
00:16A weak old weather front draped across the south, a nose of high pressure which will
00:21bring some sunshine, and then another weather front trying to approach from the northwest.
00:26But it's way down to the south where there's this old area of low pressure bringing some
00:29heavy rain to the east of Spain.
00:31But what it's also doing, it's been stirring up the Sahara, so the dust has been moving
00:37around this low and wafting up on southerly winds.
00:40It may make your sunrise a little more orangey, a little more atmospheric on Saturday morning.
00:46It is going to be quite a grey start for most of us through the course of the weekend, however,
00:51because of this weak old weather front draped somewhere across England and Wales.
00:55There'll be a focus for where we'll see a bit more in the way of light rain and drizzle,
00:59probably nothing too heavy, but it could be a bit of a damp start where that front is
01:03sitting around.
01:04Quite a grey, misty, murky start for many, and in fact for much of England, Wales, it'll
01:08probably stay quite grey through the day.
01:10Then we've got the sunniest slot, so parts of southern Scotland, eastern Scotland, much
01:15of Northern Ireland, dry and bright on Saturday.
01:18But there will be a weather front trying to push into the northwest, a bit of uncertainty
01:21about the exact location of that, but rain at times, certainly over the Western Isles and
01:25perhaps some to come for the highlands as well.
01:28A bit of a breeze blowing here.
01:30But elsewhere, the winds are light, which is why not much is moving.
01:33So it is likely to be a grey day.
01:35If we get some breaks in the cloud, it's most likely to be across the southeast of England,
01:40and that's where we could see the highest temperatures.
01:43We could easily, with a bit of sunshine, jump up to 14 or 15 Celsius.
01:47But for most where it's dull for England and Wales, 9 or 10 Celsius.
01:50There's similar temperatures further north, but of course in the sunshine over central
01:54Scotland, that'll feel pretty pleasant, whereas where it's grey, 9 or 10 Celsius won't feel
01:59very nice at all, I suspect.
02:01Now, we've still kind of got that three-way split into Sunday as well.
02:05Another weather front tries to push into the northwest.
02:08The old weather front further south is likely to push a little further north.
02:11So again, some uncertainty about the exact position.
02:14But for most of England, Wales, and now southern Scotland, a grey day on Sunday.
02:18There will be some light rain and drizzle here and there, but hard to pin down exactly
02:22where and how much there'll be.
02:24But parts of Wales, southwest England may see the odd shower.
02:27Again, a weather front bringing some rain across the far northwest, where it will be breezy.
02:31And generally, the breeze picking up a little bit as we go through Sunday compared to Saturday.
02:36Again, I suspect it'll be east Anglia and the southeast that are favoured for some breaks
02:40in the cloud and a little bit of sunshine coming through.
02:43And probably even warmer here if we do see some sunshine with temperatures getting up
02:47to 15, 16.
02:49And it could get a little higher than that if we see lengthy spells of sunshine.
02:53But for many, it will be either overcast or misty.
02:55Some fog around through the weekend as well, which will take a while to clear.
02:59So it's a bit of a messy mix.
03:00But as I said, most places will be dry at least.
03:04And in places, those breezes picking up as we go through Sunday.
