06 March - National Evening Forecast presented by Alex Deakin
Transcript
00:00Hello, where we've seen blue skies through Friday, we're going to see a blue tinge to the map by Saturday
00:06morning
00:06because that's where it's going to turn coldest without the cloud overhead.
00:10Temperatures dropping across eastern and southern Scotland.
00:13Much cloudier skies for England and Wales and some drizzly rain across East Anglia and the southeast.
00:18Quite a dank, misty, murky night here.
00:21Some clearer skies developing over north Wales and northern England.
00:24Could allow some pockets of frost here.
00:26A bit too much breeze to see the temperatures dropping too far in western Scotland.
00:30Also keeping quite a bit of cloud here.
00:32But wherever we've got the clear skies, temperatures likely even in towns and cities to get close to freezing.
00:36In rural spots, we could be several degrees below.
00:39But the thick blanket of cloud keeping the temperatures up across the south.
00:43Now, that does make for a fairly drab start to Saturday.
00:46Misty, murky conditions with quite a lot of low cloud.
00:50There'll be some drizzly rain here and there as well.
00:52Well, some uncertainty about the extent of it, but it could turn into quite a damp morning over southwest England
00:57and some of that rain just lingering in parts of south Wales into the afternoon too.
01:02Parts of the Midlands could also see some rain and drizzle.
01:04But as I said, quite a bit of uncertainty about that.
01:07Certainly across the south, expect quite a grey, drab Saturday.
01:11It might cheer up a little in the far southeast.
01:13A brighter day, though, compared to Friday for north Wales and northern England.
01:17Some sunshine here.
01:18And again, like Friday, much of Scotland and northern Ireland seeing plenty of sunny spells.
01:23There will be thicker cloud in the far northwest with some rain edging its way in across the western Isles.
01:28With the winds wafting up from the south, we could easily see those temperatures getting to double figures
01:34pretty widely across Scotland and northern Ireland.
01:36And the Murray Firth, we could even get into the teens.
01:39Further south, well, 9, 10 degrees with that thick cloud.
01:43That's going to feel quite cool.
01:44If it brightens up in the southeast, here too, we could squeak into the teens.
01:48But most, I think, will stay cloudy.
01:50During Saturday evening, we'll see a bit more of this patchy, showery rain dribbling northward.
01:55So it might turn a bit damp in northwest England, certainly over the Pennines.
01:59And then another pulse of rain and drizzle just pushes up from the south.
02:02One or two heavy bursts possible mixed in with that through the early hours of Sunday.
02:06At the same time, the weather front approaching from the northwest.
02:10But clearer skies again in eastern Scotland will allow another touch of frost here.
02:14But generally a bit milder over northern England with that thickening cloud.
02:18It makes for a duller day on Sunday for southern Scotland, northern England and north Wales.
02:23With some, again, outbreaks of rain and drizzle.
02:26Again, a bit of uncertainty about exactly where this rain and drizzle is through Sunday.
02:29So do keep up to date with the forecast if you've got plans for Sunday.
02:33At the same time, rain will creep into the west of Northern Ireland and northwest Scotland.
02:38But also something a bit brighter developing in the southeast.
02:41Better chance, certainly in land, of seeing some sunny spells, which could easily jump the temperatures up to 14, 15,
02:46maybe even higher than that.
02:48Where it's cloudy and gloomy, 10 or 11 the top temperature.
02:51But again, 11, 12 degrees in eastern Scotland, feeling quite pleasant when the sun is out this weekend.
02:58So it's a bit of a messy mix this weekend.
02:59As I mentioned, do keep up to date with the forecast, a bit of uncertainty about where that rain is
03:04sitting through Sunday.
