Chargé d'Affairs Jennifer Neidhart de Ortiz and Scot Hansen of the United States Embassy visited the TTPS Tobago Division on Thursday praising them for their quick work in solving the murder of American citizen Christopher Brown.


The DPP gave instructions on Thursday, to charge a Rockly Vale Tobago man, with the murder of the visitor. Elizabeth Williams has been following the story and has this report.

00:00When I heard about all the wonderful work that you had done here in support of our families and specifically our family who had a lost one, someone who died, a U.S. citizen who died here recently, I knew I had to come out here and greet you all and just tell you that, I mean, what you do for those families and what you did, Inspector, and all of the team, it's immeasurable.
00:27The U.S. charged the affairs praised the work of the TTBS Tobago Division in bringing the suspect to justice in the murder of American citizen Christopher Brown. Mr. Brown was stabbed to death last month in Castara, Tobago.
00:42I really just wanted to come by and say thank you so much for not only the excellent work in professionalism to solve the case, I mean, I know it's not prosecuted and all that, but you've made amazing progress on it, but also for the caring that you showed for the family.
01:00The delegation met with ACP Pear, Senior Superintendent of Police Earl Eli, Superintendent Mark Joseph, and members of the Homicide Bureau to personally express their appreciation for the team's professionalism, dedication, and continued support to the family of Christopher Brown following his murder on Wednesday, November 26th.
01:23Newly appointed Assistant Commissioner of Police, Michael Pear, stated the Tobago Bureau boasts of the highest detection rate in the solving of murders in the country.
01:34It is not often that we have a representative of the nations come to us immediately upon us doing great work.
01:48And I would like to let you know that the Tobago Division has the highest detection rate for murders in Trinidad and Tobago.
01:56ACP Pear expanded further on the 67% detection rate at the Tobago Bureau of the TTPS.
02:07Whilst the overall detection rate for homicides may be in the vicinity of about 22%, Tobago Division isolated has a 67% detection rate for homicides.
02:20That's very impressive.
02:21Right, so that, you know, it's diligent work and great leadership that would have contributed to that.
02:28According to the TTPS, the U.S. officials' visit reflects the strong partnership between the United States and the TTPS,
02:37as well as the commitment of officers to uphold the highest standards of service, care, and investigative excellence.
