00:00 A youth and education village, a National Service village involving programs like
00:05 MILAT, MIPAT and a civilian conservation corps, youth in business and youth in
00:11 agriculture. These were some of what young people at Africa grounds in
00:15 Enterprise were exposed to as the youth education and career caravan visited the
00:21 area. Minister of Youth Development and National Service Foster Cummings said
00:25 the objective is to take all the government training programs that are
00:29 focused on developing the youth into various communities where those who are
00:34 interested can register on the spot. You know a lot of people speak about the
00:39 crime problems in the country but we have a problem of a lot of idle hands in
00:45 the country. We recognize that as a result we are doing what is necessary to
00:50 train these persons to make sure that they can make a better life for
00:54 themselves. The minister stated that every caravan of which this was the 10th
00:59 edition has had around 1,500 people registering. For the programs that we have
01:05 been rolling out we have a very high success rate, a very high completion rate
01:09 up to 70% in most cases and we think that is commendable. In the coming week
01:15 we launch a youth in energy program if you want to get involved in the energy
01:20 sector we do it in conjunction with heritage and already we can only take 25
01:25 persons in this program we have already exceeded 450 applications. The ministry
01:31 in conjunction with MTS would also be launching a horticultural program. Where
01:37 young people come and learn fauna and funa and understand floral arrangements
01:42 and understand how to treat the plants and hopefully create a lot of mom-and-pop
01:46 industry in these communities so they actually could feed into MTS' stock for
01:52 nursery and that we could use for rental in government ministries. Manager of
01:57 training and development at the North Central Regional Health Authority
02:00 Marissa Harding told us that several young people expressed an interest
02:05 in careers in health care. So today we have several advertisements out we also
02:12 are showcasing careers in health that they may not be actually familiar with
02:16 and actually piquing their interest in careers in health. Minister in the
02:21 Ministry of Works and Transport Richie Sukai said the work that is being done
02:25 is hinged on sustainable development. It gives us the option to look at what are
02:30 the industries that need populating, how we are going to do it, how the education
02:36 is there so the whole supply chain and the whole layout process is actually
02:39 there in front of them. All they need to do now is grab the opportunity and the
02:43 opportunity doesn't just lie in Trinidad and Tobago. We have set in the platform to
02:47 be able to do regionally and internationally. Upon completing the
02:51 training sponsored by the government the participants are required to give back
02:55 to the country. Councillor for Enterprise South Londonville North Brenda John is
03:00 supporting the initiative. I'm also on the spot on African Bronx Enterprise for the community centre to be reopened
03:09 so at least we could have something for the youth to get by in the community
03:12 centre. It's a positive initiative for that community centre so we could
03:16 utilize it and enhance the youth in our area. Alicia Boucher TV6 News
