Earlier this week, the Office of the Prime Minister's Gender and Child Affairs Ministry hosted a graduation ceremony for its 'In the Know – On the Go' programme. Minister with responsibility for Gender and Child Affairs, Ayanna Webster-Roy, sought to encourage those present not to given up on their efforts in child protection. Here's more.

00:00I had meetings in Tobago before I came here so I had to run out of meetings
00:06with the AG, get to the airport, and I was just all over. And when the girls
00:11sang something, Jude sang, my heart became...
00:20And then when they started doing the performance using sign language, it
00:25reminded me why I get up every day and I fight again for children. Thank you all
00:32so much. The series, which focused on child abuse awareness and prevention, was
00:37hosted in various constituencies across Trinidad and Tobago. Minister Webster-Roy
00:42expressed gratitude to her parliamentary colleagues who supported the
00:46initiative. I mean we were all around the table and it was in that meeting with us
00:51and we were all around the table talking about how we could find creative ways to
00:57address issues faced by non-nation's children. And Dr. Ragbir and his team, you all
01:04came on board and you were the first. You all supported us throughout this entire
01:09process and I thank you sincerely. I think this coming together of
01:16parliamentarians and constituency staff and stakeholders from all sides
01:22signals to Trinidad and Tobago that we are sowing good seeds and I'm happy. Even
01:29though I'm crying, I'm genuinely happy and I'm pleased because it shows that we
01:35could do it. It shows that if we put aside our differences and really stay
01:41focused on the task at hand, which is to save and to protect and to nurture our most
01:47vulnerable citizens. Member of Parliament Dinesh Ramboli echoed the sentiments of
01:52the minister, stressing the importance of protecting the future generation.
01:58Safeguarding children is not just a moral obligation, it is a collective
02:03responsibility and it requires all of us to be vigilant, informed and
02:08compassionate by investing in training and improving our approaches. We are not
02:13just protecting children, we are laying the foundation for a brighter, more
02:18resilient future for our nation. Minister in the Ministry of National Security Keith
02:23Scotland urged parents to ensure that their homes are a safe place for
02:27children. We all come from homes and I want to suggest to us in beginning this
02:34journey, make your home a safe haven for all our children. That is something that
02:42we can achieve on our own without any outside help. Once we start to make our
02:49homes safe for our children, that is a major step in being in the know, on the
02:58go and then we can branch off into other areas where we can now influence others
03:05to do what we are doing in our household.
