00:00 The Kaijis are here and the cities are collapsing. Here's a look at McFarlane
00:05 toys Pacific Rim Knifehead.
00:09 Knifehead is a jagged tooth headhunter with a deadly toxic bite and acid
00:35 flowing through its veins. It uses its monstrous head blade to slice through
00:39 boats buildings and mechs and force sets of claws to tear enemies to pieces. Beware
00:44 of this biohazard lurking in the deep. While Knifehead slices and dices let's
00:49 grab the tape measure and see how big the beast is. While I'm doing this as
00:52 well I'd like to thank the folks over at McFarlane toys that did provide this
00:55 sample of the Pacific Rim Knifehead. We can have a look at this review. These
00:59 Pacific Rim figures by the way are available right now in retail stores and
01:03 online. Knifehead though stands about four and a quarter inches in height or
01:07 it's about ten and a half centimeters tall. And while we are dealing with a
01:12 scale so small let's slide over Knifehead and bring in the earlier
01:16 looked at Gypsy Danger. Now Gypsy Danger if you were to get them actually a stand
01:20 it just involves getting the legs to be completely straight. The figures are
01:24 about the same size to one another. I don't know why I'm having so many
01:27 problems getting... there we go. You can see that they are about the same size. If
01:30 anything you maybe could give the height clearance to Gypsy being a slight bit
01:34 tad taller. What has been the case with these Pacific Rim figures is of course
01:39 you get your main figure, you get yourself a building to destroy, tiny
01:42 little vehicles protect that building and you get yourself an issue of Pacific
01:45 Rim Aftermath. Judging by the fact that this is number one I probably should
01:48 have started the order with these figures looking at Knifehead first and
01:52 maybe Gypsy Danger a little bit later. This starts at least the story of
01:55 Pacific Rim Aftermath. Quickly flipping through the pages showing you guys some
01:58 somewhat decent artwork of Kaijus and just continuing to flip through.
02:02 Obviously this is gonna end in a bit of a cliffhanger tying then into issue
02:06 number two and I think as well that's Ron Perlman from Pacific Rim number two.
02:10 Now Pacific Rim, the second Pacific Rim I didn't like as much as the first film.
02:13 This ends though with I Am Pentecost part one of Aladdin's Cave and follows
02:17 up then with Pacific Rim Aftermath number two. The uprising begins here and
02:21 of course on the back you also got some advertisements from McFarlane toys
02:23 releases as well. I would love eventually when I finish having a look
02:27 at all these Pacific Rim figures to start the comics at the beginning of
02:30 issue number one and work my way chronologically in the correct order to
02:34 see where the story goes. Moving the comic out of the way, Knifehead, the
02:38 Kaiju Knifehead does also come clear with a building. Now does the building
02:41 look familiar to you? It probably should because it happens to be the exact same
02:44 building somewhat other than the top piece that came also included with Gypsy
02:48 Danger. Other than just the top being molded differently all the building
02:52 streets at least the bottom of the streets and all the building parts
02:55 leading up to the top are exactly the same as Gypsy Danger. Didn't believe me?
02:59 Well in fact you can take the two parts off and switch them around. This was the
03:04 one that came with Knifehead, this is the one that came with Gypsy Danger and
03:07 again all the parts underneath are exactly the same to one another. I don't
03:11 expect them either to have unique molds for any of these buildings anyways. I
03:14 mean obviously the whole idea in mind is that you can have these all connected
03:18 with one another. The more of these figures that you end up buying the
03:21 bigger the city you actually can build and also as well with these putting
03:25 these tops back the way I found them. The benefits of these buildings too is the
03:29 fact that they are sectional. I'm gonna slide out the way the one that came from
03:32 Gypsy Danger carefully picking up the one that comes in clear with Knifehead.
03:35 First maybe a little look at the actual city. So you got yourself of course
03:40 the roadways you can have yourself tiny little vehicles working their way up the
03:43 streets. This little section of course the bottom of the building will be and
03:46 then just again connect multiple cities together. What I do like about the
03:49 buildings is that they do detach from one another. They seem to be and also in
03:53 a design that you can rotate them around. So while you will have to put them in
03:56 the proper order of this being always the bottom one that always being the top
03:59 the actual rotation of these it doesn't seem to matter which way you put them.
04:03 One thing I also really like is the fact that if you wanted to have these as some
04:07 fallen ruins any one of these can detach from one another very easily and all of
04:11 them do have a finished top to them. So if you wanted to have a partial building
04:15 partially broken just the top half of it removed altogether you'd at least have a
04:19 finished top where they've sculpted it. I'm glad to see they took the time to
04:22 actually put that in there. Eventually when I do get through all these Pacific
04:26 Rim reviews obviously my big goal in mind is to have these all out in a big
04:30 city diorama. Maybe even if you don't even want to have them displayed
04:34 necessarily as Pacific Rim just the idea of smaller little cityscapes ideally
04:38 may be good for like if you Godzilla figures of this size and stature. So
04:43 let's just move back the building just for a little bit here to come also
04:46 include with Knifehead you get yourself two vehicles. One seems to be a military
04:50 Humvee a little Hummer at the top there. I call it Humvee. A little Hummer at the
04:54 top there does have a Gatling gun although it doesn't rotate. It's molded
04:58 nicely here in a dark military green. It doesn't have any rolling wheels it's
05:02 just basically a molded piece. It has no posability, no moving parts at all. But
05:06 what does also come included with is a tank that doesn't have treads. It doesn't
05:10 have rolling wheels necessarily but what it does have is a rotating turret. I like
05:15 that. A turret actually was something also very similar as well to the
05:18 Gypsy Danger. Gypsy Danger came included with a little bit larger of a tank but
05:22 it also had a rotating turret. Gypsy Danger also came included with a little
05:26 tiny military transport truck. Again nothing moves really on the tires but a
05:31 nice little sculpted piece nonetheless. And again you can have these. I mean I
05:33 mean obviously they're not really scaled necessarily to the building. The building
05:36 really should be a lot bigger or the vehicles should be a lot smaller but they
05:39 couldn't really release these figures with tiny tiny little vehicles about this
05:42 size. That would make no sense. You'd lose them right away. So let's get a closer
05:45 look now at Knifehead. Now the Knifehead itself while being a really nicely
05:50 detailed figure of course as with the other or earlier looked at Gypsy Danger
05:54 it does lack some necessary posability. This one actually does lack a little bit
05:58 more of the posability because his head is basically just built to the rest of
06:00 his body. There is no posability where you can actually rotate the head at all
06:04 but even that it does make for a really nice little Knifehead. The Knifehead is
06:08 colored. I mean mostly the plastic kind of is more of a very greenish gray and
06:12 they've got some accented areas here with the tops and the bottom of teeth
06:15 painted a very bright blue. The eyes are also painted blue and I'd have to go
06:20 back and watch the original Pacific Rim. I don't recall a time where Knifehead
06:23 actually had these sort of jagged lines. A continuation of the blue sort of
06:27 trickling down the front of its face unless it's wounded. When I originally
06:31 think of Knifehead I always think of just tiny little pupils colored. I don't
06:34 really really remember him having these little... again is this I don't think it's
06:38 supposed to be a paint issue because really he has it on both sides. Clearly
06:42 looks to be intentional but I don't remember it ever having a time where
06:45 like I said it had these little... it almost looks like it's crying. I don't know why
06:48 it would be crying. The coloring also carries over here not necessarily in
06:51 blue but you've got a little undercarriage there in a lighter gray and
06:54 you've got some really nice zigzagging of yellow down the sides of its arms.
06:58 Where it does also lack posability it lacks also in paints. It does really rely
07:02 on just the green plastic alone but you know again for its size it's a nice
07:06 little rendition of Knifehead. Now obviously when you're comparing the two
07:09 Gypsy Danger benefits a little bit by having better articulation but if you
07:13 really are liking the designs of Kaijus and you want something a little bit
07:16 smaller these ones fit the bill really nicely. Now for its articulation this is
07:21 again where these figures are gonna be a little bit more limited. For Knifehead
07:23 for example you can only really rotate the arm back and forth. You can't seem to
07:28 rotate the legs much at all. There seems to be just a little bit of wiggle but
07:32 not enough that I can actually move it back and forth. The tail is obviously
07:35 posed the way it is. There's no moveability there and it doesn't seem
07:39 to be the case at all where you can rotate the head. By looking at sort of
07:42 the side it looked for a second like I'd be able to turn it but clearly from the
07:45 top of it's just one continued sculpt. So you can't be rotated at all. And then one
07:50 thing also I was really surprised to see if I just move his arms up you can also
07:53 move these tiny little arms on the inside close to his body. So I guess that
07:57 would be like one two three four. Again doesn't seem to be any articulation at
08:01 all here for the lower half of his body. So really it chalks up to only being
08:04 four points of articulation for the Kaiju knife head. Still a nice little
08:08 release. I mean I mentioned this I think when we looked at... let's get him to pose
08:11 a little bit properly here. You kind of have to bring his arms a little bit down
08:14 because he is very top heavy, very front heavy. When we had a look at... just move
08:18 over the building here a little bit... when we looked initially at Gypsy Danger I
08:22 did say that point I'll mention it again here in the review of Knifehead. It's not
08:25 gonna be everyone's cup of tea. I know not everyone's gonna like the idea of
08:28 smaller scale Kaiju's smaller scale like mech suits but if you like the idea of
08:33 cityscapes something a couple of viewers had commented and weighed in
08:37 down below in the original review of Gypsy Danger they really like the idea
08:40 of being able to build big cityscapes and really ideally for the price for
08:43 what these things are selling for I think most of these online are going for
08:45 like 15 to 18 dollars. Not bad at all. Not only are you getting small sized monsters
08:50 no you can also the mech suits that fight them but you're getting tiny
08:53 little buildings that you can destroy and dismantle if you want to and you
08:56 also get the benefit of having these tiny little vehicles that can patrol the
09:00 city scenes and also battle the monsters and try and protect the city.
09:06 Well so much for the military protecting the city it looks like Knifehead has
09:10 destroyed one of the skyscrapers nearby. One of the things I like about the
09:13 skyscraper buildings is the fact that while they have to be in a
09:17 certain order so you have to put them in the order that they come in you can at
09:20 least rotate the individual pieces. In other words you don't have to line them
09:24 up where they always have to be on one side you can easily rotate those
09:28 building pieces around and they stack exactly the same way. They have to be in
09:31 the right order but at least you don't have to line up one side where
09:34 that little part of the point has to go on the left side of the building.
09:39 You can easily just rotate them around. I also wondered though by looking at
09:42 the Pacific Rim Knifehead and then earlier looked at the Gypsy Danger I was
09:46 thinking I wonder if you could actually take the individual pieces of building
09:49 and just make a taller skyscraper. It doesn't work that way. You can change and
09:53 mix and match the top parts but you can't just continue to add those
09:56 buildings. One way they could have also done is it just made the exact same
09:59 shape of the jagged lines so that you could in fact just continue to build a
10:03 big giant building one that reaches the ceiling if you have enough these Pacific
10:08 Rim toys. What do you guys think of this line by the way? Is this something that
10:11 you guys have been collecting or do you feel like the Pacific Rim from McFarland
10:14 toys is a total pass? Let me know what you guys think of this line down below
10:18 in the comment section. Once again a big thank you to the folks over at McFarland
10:21 toys that did provide the sample of the Pacific Rim Kaiju Knifehead that we had
10:25 the chance to have a look in this review. If you guys certainly did enjoy this
