00:00What happens when the hunter becomes the hunted?
00:03Here's your relook at the NECA Alien vs. Predator Requiem Hybrid.
00:13On Christmas Day 2007, the war between the aliens and the predators resume in the theatrical release of Alien vs. Predator Requiem.
00:20These action figures based on the film feature a variety of alien and predator characters from the film.
00:26Each stand 8 inches tall, are detailed, and feature multiple points of articulation.
00:31To think of all the lives that were lost just because young predators didn't properly scan the scar before he got on ship.
00:37Seriously, with all the tech that predators have, you would think that a ship would have at least a scanner to detect any anomalies that might be aboard.
00:44Still, though, it made for a rather interesting movie.
00:46I think one of the biggest things that were cool about AVPR wasn't the fact it was so low-lit.
00:51That was a big mistake, I think, on the movie makers.
00:53They really, I guess, didn't believe in the animatronics, and they thought that lighting everything dark would make for a more thrilling movie.
00:59No, it made for a movie that was harder to see everything going on.
01:02Still, though, some of the best things about the movie were the Predalien.
01:06Now, the Predalien is actually a young alien queen.
01:09It's referred to as a Praetorian, where it's not a fully mature queen, but it still has the mean to lay eggs.
01:15I did want to go back and re-review this figure, because it certainly has been several years.
01:19Now, with the years since looking at this, the Predalien, unfortunately, has been quite loose in the limbs.
01:24Still, it manages to hold itself up fine.
01:26I'm also, unfortunately, missing the display stand, so that's one bit of an accessory that I won't have for this re-review.
01:32That being said, though, the figure is still going to stand the same after all these years.
01:36The Predalien is, in fact, 7 3⁄4 of an inch in height, or roughly about 19 1⁄2 centimeters tall.
01:43Not from AVPR, no, but here's at least what the Predalien looks like with a regular xenomorph,
01:49bringing in one of my all-time favorite predators.
01:51Not knocking over the tail, let's just kind of move him over here.
01:53Happens to be not from AVPR, but AVP.
01:56This is the Celtic predator.
01:58Celtic, not Celtic.
01:59Here's also one of the very earliest examples I have for a jungle predator.
02:04Obviously, I have a couple of ultimates, but I did want to kind of go back to the basics,
02:07considering this figure is 18 years old.
02:10And speaking of an older figure, even though we really haven't gotten any newer release versions of him,
02:14here's also what the Predalien looks like, along with Dutch.
02:18Yeah, well, it's a bit of a bummer I don't have the original display stand.
02:20The stand would certainly have helped to keep the Predalien from falling over,
02:24but providing you sort of follow the way everything's been painted on the figure,
02:28you can get it in just the right pose that it's not going to fall over.
02:31If, though, I was to be able to bring back the display base,
02:33the base basically would have looked like a dumbbell,
02:36very thin in the middle, and then circular orbs on the ends,
02:40and there would have been pegs on those.
02:42Grassy old null, grassy null,
02:43and then the Predator Predalien would have just attached onto that.
02:46But again, like, if you get the configuration right for the Predalien,
02:50the alien still stands fine.
02:53It does really rely a lot on the tail to kind of keep it upright,
02:55especially if it doesn't have a display stand to work with.
02:58But if you follow sort of, again, the guidelines,
03:00and I'll show you guys in this review,
03:01if you buy one loose like this,
03:03because, like, the crazy price is what this thing's selling for online,
03:06to get a sealed 2007 AVPR hybrid,
03:10not Predalien hybrid,
03:12expect to pay anywhere from $200 to $260.
03:15Ouch.
03:17So I don't mind the fact I'm going to be living without it just spliced in it.
03:19I'm sure I have it somewhere.
03:21It's just a case of trying to find it.
03:23In the meantime, though, let's go ahead and pick up the Predalien.
03:25Getting a closer look at it,
03:27it's a rather interesting creature in the sense that,
03:29obviously, it's splicing together both Yaucha DNA and Xenomorph.
03:33Being that it's also an alien queen,
03:35a Predalien alien queen,
03:37it has to then rely on regurgitating embryos into its female hosts.
03:41Gross.
03:42So basically, while it doesn't have, like, an egg sac on the back,
03:45it really relies on it laying its eggs through its mouth.
03:48Speaking of its mouth,
03:49it does actually still have an open and closing mouth.
03:52The inside does still have the smaller jaw,
03:54although I can't really get it out.
03:56I don't really remember if the original Predalien,
03:58well, obviously, this original Predalien,
04:00did have a jaw that would slide out.
04:03This one seems to be locked in place,
04:04but the mouth does still open and close.
04:06And it's held up pretty well over time.
04:10One thing that does carry over, though,
04:11is the traits of both the species.
04:13So while you still have, like, the dome of the Xenomorph,
04:16you get, then, the influence of the Yauchas
04:19by having the little mandibles there on the side.
04:21These are basically just softer and plastic.
04:23And, of course, you've got the dreads on the back.
04:24You get, also, a much larger crest
04:27than a traditional Xenomorph.
04:29In fact, actually, the way they sculpt it,
04:30it looks very much like the Alien Warriors from Aliens.
04:33Love the texturing and sculpting that they've done to that.
04:37You know, for a figure that's, what, 18 years old,
04:39I think it still is holding up pretty well for paint.
04:42It doesn't hold up as well, though,
04:43unfortunately, when it comes to the figure's possibility.
04:45I'll kind of talk more about that in a moment.
04:47But the head is, luckily, though, on a ball joint,
04:49so he can still very freely move it around.
04:51I'm really kind of surprised that NECA,
04:53after all this time,
04:54hasn't gone back to the well
04:55and not produced a fully articulated version of this.
04:59I've seen a lot of customizers, obviously,
05:00also online,
05:02where clearly they've probably just pulled the parts
05:04from this piece
05:05and then just added it to, like,
05:06a more articulated Xenomorph,
05:08where it could then do a lot more
05:09than what it would be able to do right now.
05:11The mandibles, again, are softer plastic.
05:14They don't have any mobility at all.
05:15I do actually think it's kind of cool, though,
05:17that you can see through the dome
05:18and make out that there's an alien skull underneath.
05:21The mouth, again.
05:22Now, there is also, technically,
05:23there is, outside of maybe the odd occasional statue,
05:27Hyatt Toys really did support
05:28a lot of the alien properties,
05:30with not only the alien hybrid from Alien Resurrection,
05:33but they did, in fact,
05:34release two versions of the hybrid Predalien.
05:37I've done reviews, certainly, of both.
05:38I really should have actually brought those out
05:40for comparisons.
05:41But, yeah, this one does do
05:42still a pretty decent enough job
05:43from a sculpting standpoint.
05:45You've got the long tentacles there on the back,
05:47the long dreads on the back.
05:48Those are all done in softer plastic.
05:50I would imagine, though,
05:51if they were to release this guy
05:52with a new Ultimate release,
05:54or she in a new Ultimate release,
05:56the head probably didn't need to be changed
05:58at all much after this.
05:59I mean, like, maybe they could find a way
06:00to incorporate some additional poseability
06:02for the mandibles on the sides.
06:04Maybe they could find a way to, like,
06:05maybe you'd be able to pop these off
06:07or replace them with more fanned-out versions,
06:09or maybe ones where the mandibles
06:10are more closer to the mouth.
06:11But I think, like, the head sculpt
06:12has still held up pretty well over time.
06:15For the rest of the detailing, though,
06:16on the figure,
06:17primarily you're getting really
06:19a dark, black, casted plastic piece
06:21with, again, like, a lot of the influence,
06:23though, of the alien,
06:24of the predator in there as well.
06:25So you've got, like,
06:26the lighter cream colors,
06:27some browns added in there as well.
06:29And, again, like,
06:29the more familiar spots
06:31that we see on Yautja's.
06:32The hands still remain to be more...
06:35Like, the figure mostly,
06:36like, as a character,
06:37seems more like 75% alien,
06:40and it's only really just a few things
06:41that are predators.
06:42Like the head, like, for example,
06:44like the coloring of its body.
06:45But, like, more through and through,
06:47it seems more to be a...
06:48more a hybrid of, obviously,
06:50a xenomorph,
06:50not the other way around.
06:52The tail is very long,
06:54and actually that works to its benefit
06:55because the tail does a lot of the job
06:57of holding the figure upright.
06:58You have to kind of get it
06:59in a certain pose
07:00for it to stand on its own,
07:02do a lot of balancing back and forth,
07:03but the tail really is...
07:04The tail really is the unsung hero
07:06that does the work
07:08of holding the figure upright.
07:09Like, you have to kind of
07:10turn the figure
07:10in a certain direction,
07:12and just, if you leave it alone,
07:13you'll kind of walk back carefully.
07:15Nobody sneezes.
07:15Nobody coughs.
07:16The alien, the pretty alien,
07:17should stand fine on her own.
07:20Now, for, again,
07:21the rest of the details,
07:22very limited on the articulation.
07:24Don't expect really anything
07:25at all for the torso.
07:26You can't really turn it
07:27or anything like that.
07:28Very long, again,
07:29xenomorph arms and hands.
07:31Again, you've got the tubes there
07:32on the back of the body.
07:33Those don't change at all.
07:34And, of course, as mentioned,
07:35you've already got the very long tail.
07:37For the poseability,
07:37now, again, this figure,
07:38unfortunately, over time,
07:39has been very loose.
07:41It's developed very much
07:42loose ankles
07:42or loose joints overall.
07:44The head is still going to be
07:45on a ball joint.
07:46And, you know,
07:46surprised to see
07:47that a figure of this age
07:48does actually still retain
07:49a head postable,
07:50like a ball joint,
07:51where you can be able
07:52to do as much as you can.
07:53So the head could,
07:55I don't want to say
07:55rotate all the way around.
07:56It can't do that.
07:57Don't try to turn it
07:58whatever you do,
07:59especially for how old
07:59this figure.
08:00But you can still turn it
08:01back and forth.
08:02The head does move down
08:03and moves up.
08:04You can also rock it
08:05slightly back and forth, too.
08:07For its arms,
08:08the arms hinge out.
08:09I wouldn't necessarily
08:10be comfortable to say
08:11at 90 degrees,
08:12maybe a little less than that.
08:1345, 45 would be a better one
08:15to land on.
08:16The arms do rotate,
08:17so you can take those arms in.
08:19I don't really like doing this,
08:20but you can rotate them
08:21all the way around.
08:22It's just super tight.
08:23Maybe I'm just going to leave it.
08:24I don't want to push lady luck
08:25just in case it snaps.
08:26But yeah, 45 on the arms,
08:28more so just forward and back.
08:29Don't try to rotate it
08:30all the way around.
08:31There's a bicep swivel.
08:33There's nothing,
08:33unfortunately, in the elbow.
08:34The elbow is just
08:35a locked statue piece.
08:37So like this pose
08:38that it's doing right now
08:39is the pose
08:40it's going to continue to do.
08:41The hands are also something,
08:43only just straight swivels.
08:45Not that really like new xenomorphs
08:46tend to have anything
08:47more than that.
08:48Really nice coloring
08:48also in the insides of the palms.
08:50On this arm
08:51is also pretty much the same.
08:52So again,
08:52forward and back motion,
08:54swivel in the bicep,
08:55nothing in the elbows,
08:56swivel in the hands.
08:58The top of the torso
08:59is again locked in place.
09:01When you look at
09:01sort of this area
09:02right here for the abdomen,
09:03there's a line
09:04right straight through here
09:06where it kind of gives you
09:07this suggestion
09:07that you'd be able to turn it,
09:09but you can't.
09:10It's all sculpted as one.
09:12The legs are one thing
09:13that over the time
09:14has developed the most looseness.
09:16Yeah, you can swivel
09:16them back and forth,
09:17but the way that they kind of work
09:18is it's a V cut.
09:19So when you swivel the legs out,
09:21they don't swivel forward and back.
09:23They, well,
09:24they swivel like it's
09:25swiveling out this way.
09:26They also swivel back this way too.
09:28I think I might just try
09:29to go in there with some,
09:30maybe it's like floor polish,
09:31something maybe
09:32if you have any other suggestions,
09:33let me know
09:33to try to tighten up these joints
09:35because yeah,
09:36obviously that's the one thing
09:37that really is the,
09:38it really is the hero.
09:39It's the thing
09:40that's holding the figure up
09:41between the legs and the tail.
09:43That's the two things
09:44that you really need
09:45to rely on the figure the most.
09:46It has a swivel though
09:47in the leg,
09:48about halfway up the leg.
09:50It does obviously start
09:51to break the paint up
09:52because it's painted well
09:53the way it is.
09:54The moment you start
09:54to turn the leg,
09:56not only are you going to lose
09:57the stability of the figure,
09:58but you're also going to break up
09:59some of that seamless look.
10:01There's no knee articulation.
10:02There is no foot articulation either.
10:04It's pretty much just the,
10:05just the thighs
10:06and just right here.
10:08That's about all
10:08you're really going to be able to get.
10:09But if you line everything up,
10:11so like see the way
10:12that the paint is not,
10:13well,
10:14the legs turned over here.
10:15You have to kind of
10:16line everything up
10:17to match the paint.
10:18Match the paint is the best way
10:19to kind of get the figure
10:20to stand properly.
10:21And again,
10:22if you just put them down on it,
10:23put her on the shelf,
10:24just like that.
10:26Again,
10:26and again,
10:26rely really on the tail.
10:28This again,
10:29would have been so much
10:30certainly easier
10:31if I had myself
10:31the display stand.
10:32It's somewhere.
10:34It's somewhere probably
10:34in a tote.
10:35Maybe it's even on a floor
10:36somewhere in my office.
10:37I haven't been able to find it
10:39because maybe that could have been
10:40the one reasons
10:41why I waited as long
10:42as I did to go back
10:43and look at the Predalien again,
10:44primarily because I was
10:45kind of holding out
10:46to see if I could find
10:47her display stand
10:47and I didn't have
10:48any luck whatsoever.
10:50In the end though,
10:50it's still a nice piece
10:51to pick up.
10:52If you can be lucky enough
10:54though to find one loose,
10:55that's your best bet.
10:56I wouldn't really recommend
10:57trying to buy one sealed
10:58from at least what I've seen
10:59on listings.
11:00eBay sellers tend to be
11:02selling these
11:02for about $2 to $260.
11:05Now that I think
11:05is even probably
11:06in US dollars.
11:07So as a Canadian collector,
11:09I probably would have
11:10had to pay
11:11even more than that.
11:12But if you get one loose,
11:13you know,
11:13if you go to a toy show
11:14or you find somebody
11:15that just happens
11:16to be selling one,
11:17I think it's still
11:17worth picking up.
11:18I don't know what chance
11:19there will be
11:20that NECA is going to release
11:21an ultimate version
11:21of the Predalien.
11:22I would think
11:23that it would be
11:23one of those things
11:24if they had done it
11:25or they had planned to do it,
11:27they would have done it already.
11:28Maybe this ship
11:29unfortunately has set sail.
11:30In the meantime though,
11:31if you don't mind
11:31smaller versions
11:32of the Predalien,
11:34Hyatois has released
11:35two exquisite,
11:36I mean obviously
11:37no pun intended,
11:38two exquisite
11:38miniseries versions
11:40of the figures
11:41that we've looked at
11:41here on this channel.
11:42They did release though
11:43a cleaner version
11:43and a battle damage
11:44that had again
11:45like the green,
11:46you know,
11:46the alien blood
11:48all over its face.
11:49I certainly would
11:50certainly suggest
11:50if you guys want to go back
11:51and check out those reviews.
11:52In the meantime though,
11:53I get a lot of questions
11:55from you guys.
11:56Would you ever go back
11:56and re-review
11:57the Predalien?
11:58It's a little looser
11:59over the time
11:59that I've had this.
12:00I mean obviously
12:00again I'm missing
12:01the display stand
12:02but I think though
12:03if you'll overlook that
12:04and the fact that
12:05yeah the possibility
12:06is going to be very limited
12:07on the Predalien,
12:08it's a figure I feel
12:09that still holds up well
12:10even 18 years later.
12:12Just out of curiosity,
12:14I decided to take a trip
12:15back over to eBay
12:16and typed in
12:17NECA Alien vs Predator
12:18Rockwium Hybrid 2007.
12:20I probably didn't even
12:21need to put it in 2007.
12:22There is one listing
12:24right now.
12:25It's from a seller
12:26that's in the US
12:26right now
12:27and if converted
12:28to Canadian,
12:29keep in mind
12:29because like
12:30my eBay set up
12:31to Canadian funds
12:32rather than the US funds
12:33so I already know
12:33right away
12:34what I'm going to expect
12:35to pay.
12:37337,
12:38oh there's more,
12:38337.81.
12:41$337.81.
12:44There is 17 people
12:45watching.
12:46I thought you really
12:46should be advertising
12:47this seller.
12:48I'm not going to give you
12:48his name.
12:4917 people
12:50currently are watching
12:51that.
12:51I don't know
12:52if any of those
12:5217 people
12:53will pull the trigger
12:54and get a hybrid
12:55alien for almost
12:56$340
12:57plus the cost
12:58of shipping
12:59plus the cost
13:00of brokerage fees.
13:02Now for me,
13:02I'm happy just to
13:03keep the loose one
13:04that I have right now
13:05and loose
13:05is really the proper
13:06word to say.
13:07It has developed
13:08very looseness
13:09on the legs
13:10especially over the years.
13:11The arms aren't so bad
13:13and even if the arms
13:13are loose
13:14that's something
13:15that's livable.
13:16The rest of the lower
13:16half of the body
13:17though is the thing
13:18that's really going
13:18to keep this thing
13:19upright.
13:19You know,
13:20it still survives
13:21okay with the display
13:22stand.
13:23If though you're
13:23lucky enough
13:24to find a loose
13:25version of the
13:25Pred Alien,
13:26try to find one
13:27though that has
13:28the stand.
13:28It's just going
13:29to make things
13:29so much simpler.
13:30Now you probably
13:31are also asking,
13:32well could you just
13:32use a regular stand
13:33from another figure
13:34company?
13:34You could.
13:35You could as well.
13:36Just being that
13:37it stands fine
13:38the way it is
13:38right now,
13:39I didn't even bother
13:40use a display stand.
13:41If you get the pose
13:42that pretty much
13:43looks the way it is
13:43right now,
13:44really using a
13:45display stand
13:46is only more
13:47just there to ensure
13:48that when you have
13:49this on the shelf
13:49and I can assure you
13:51this thing goes back
13:52on the shelf
13:52which it will be
13:53I will be grabbing
13:55I will be grabbing
13:55display stands
13:56and just putting on
13:56the bombs of the feet
13:57just to ensure
13:58I might even go back
13:59now that I've
13:59re-reviewed this figure
14:00kind of find ways
14:01that I can clean it
14:02up a bit
14:03adding maybe some
14:04things to tighten up
14:05the joints
14:05especially in the
14:06tops of his thighs
14:06the swiveling in the
14:08legs isn't so much
14:09of an issue
14:09even if that's a bit
14:10of a floppy mess.
14:11The thing I really
14:12need to make sure
14:12is stable enough
14:13is the tops
14:14of the Predalien's
14:15thighs.
14:16What do you guys
14:17think of the figure?
14:17Let me know down
14:18below in the comment
14:18section.
14:19Have you guys
14:19ever picked up
14:20the Predalien?
14:21Would you guys
14:21also be interested
14:22if NECA could ever
14:23do an ultimate
14:24release of this?
14:25Which again
14:25with all them doing
14:26I mean there's
14:27been a while
14:28really when you
14:28think about it
14:28NECA hasn't done
14:29a whole lot of
14:30Predalien's
14:30or they haven't
14:31done a lot of
14:31Predators
14:32they haven't
14:32done a lot of
14:33Aliens
14:33maybe they've
14:34kind of moved
14:35their focus away
14:36from those licenses
14:36to do something else
14:38instead.
14:38If they ever go
14:39back and occasionally
14:40do a brand new
14:41Predator I hope
14:43that still in their
14:43mindset there's
14:45the idea to do
14:45a brand new
14:46Predalien.
14:47I think there's
14:47enough collectors
14:48certainly out there
14:48ones that are
14:49willing to pay
14:50almost $340
14:52to get one sealed
14:53I think those
14:54same collectors
14:55would be happy
14:55to pay the retail
14:56price to get one
14:57that's a little
14:58bit more poseable.
14:59Yeah what do you
15:00guys think of the
15:00Predalien?
15:01Let me know down
15:01below in the
15:01comment section.
15:03Let me also know
15:03did you guys
15:04really like AVPR?
15:05I don't think I
15:06like it as much
15:07as the first AVP.
15:08And I mean I know
15:09that's not saying
15:09a whole lot.
15:10AVP and AVPR
15:11aren't great movies
15:12but the fact that
15:13we finally have
15:14Yauchas and Xenomorph
15:15battling on the
15:16big screen I can
15:17live with the fact
15:18that the story's a
15:19little weak and in
15:19the case of AVPR
15:20the movie isn't
15:22really dark.
15:23It's really hard to
15:23make it out.
15:24If you guys did
15:25enjoy this video do
15:26it a solid throw
15:26it a like.
15:27You guys want to
15:27stick around for
15:28more so?
15:29Yeah I hope so.
