00:00Learning the ABC in apartment one two three. Here's your look at the NECA Sesame Street Ernie Ultimate Action Figure
00:06The iconic residents of Sesame Street are getting the ultimate NECA's treatment.
00:30Celebrate your favorite childhood pal Ernie with this seven-inch scale action figure featuring 27 points of articulation.
00:36This figure is a must-have for any fan of the mischievous character.
00:39Accessories include interchangeable heads and hands, rubber ducky, framed picture in Bert and Ernie, and the letter C.
00:45Just the figure that you need for finding fishies.
00:48Before that, we get a closer look at the Ultimate Sesame Street Ernie.
00:50Let's take the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands.
00:53I actually found this one on the Facebook selling group and ordered this from Popeye the Toy Man.
00:58Ernie's going to stand at about five and three-quarters of an inch in height.
01:01That's going to work out to be a figure that's 14 centimeters tall.
01:04Well, Ernie's actually one of the OGs of Sesame Street, even appearing on the first episode in 1969.
01:11Sliding over him and bringing in his roommates, here's what the figure looks like, along with Bert.
01:16Now, based at least on what we've seen so far, we don't really have much in the way of Sesame Street figures that NECA has announced.
01:21We, of course, got the count.
01:23But after that, it's just unknown, really, if they're going to be planning to do any figures after that.
01:28Ironically, for Ernie's packaging, it lists the figures Volume 1.
01:31Bert would be then Volume 2.
01:32Yet, though, Ernie goes out of sequence of the alphabet, and he actually gets the letter C.
01:36A capital C.
01:37And you can see what he can see.
01:39Funny, though, again, enough, when we get Bert's, Bert came in with a capital A.
01:43Now, originally thinking, though, that they had plans to do A, B, C, D, in actual fact, NECA had planned to spell their own company name.
01:51So when we get ourselves count, for example, he's going to have the letter E.
01:54And then we have an N.
01:55I don't know what N yet has been attached to.
01:58But the plan is, though, to spell NECA.
02:00Now, I hope, though, that doesn't mean we're only going to be getting four characters from the Sesame Street.
02:03If anything, NECA could maybe spell, like, NECA rules.
02:07Although, again, that probably would be another E in there as well.
02:09I do like the look of these letters.
02:11Again, while Bert's able to actually have a conversation with his letter,
02:14all that really the C can do is exactly what he can.
02:17He can only really see.
02:18I do actually like, though, that these letters have texturing to them.
02:21So they actually look like Muppets as well.
02:24Let's move those off to the side.
02:25Ernie does also come include the picture or portrait of them that's always seen behind their skits.
02:31This is just childhood nostalgia for me.
02:33Not only do I remember the skits of Bert and Ernie.
02:35Ernie, of course, laughing away and Bert always getting really ticked off by him.
02:39But always, though, in the background, you could always see the portrait of the two characters.
02:44It looks just as much like it does from the Sesame Street episodes.
02:46Now, you can hang this technically really on your wall.
02:49If you look on the back, though, of the picture, there is a hanging hook.
02:53If you have yourself like a nail, if you have a thumbtack,
02:56or even if you just don't want to damage the wall and you decide to use tape,
02:59you could then have this displayed behind the characters.
03:02I don't have a wall.
03:03I don't really have a wall right now.
03:04But just, yeah, take my word for it.
03:06The figure, of course, comes with his prized possession.
03:08That would be Rubber Ducky.
03:09What exactly is Rubber Ducky looking at?
03:12Oh, yeah, I see that cobweb up there as well.
03:15Rubber Ducky, though, is his prized possession.
03:17I go back to referencing, again, Christmas on Sesame Street.
03:20Bert's prized possession, of course, was his paperclip collection.
03:23Now, when it came time for them to exchange their gifts,
03:25neither one of them really had the money.
03:26So they went to Mr. Hooper's shop,
03:28and Bert and Ernie actually saw a cigarette box,
03:31basically just hanging on the shelf like that.
03:33He wanted to get that, of course,
03:34so Bert could have a place to put his paperclips and not lose them.
03:38But he didn't have anything to trade for that,
03:40didn't have anything to sell.
03:41So what he did instead was he trade Rubber Ducky.
03:43Rubber Ducky was left behind.
03:47When it was Bert's time, though, to go back into Mr. Hooper's shop,
03:50he, of course, then wanted to get a soap dish for Rubber Ducky,
03:53so there was a place for Rubber Ducky to sit inside the bath.
03:55Well, he didn't have anything,
03:57so what he did was he traded his paperclip collection.
03:59You can probably already see where this is going.
04:00When it came time to exchange their gifts,
04:02sure enough, Ernie had the cigarette box,
04:05Bert had the soap dish,
04:05but neither one of them had their prized possessions
04:08in order to put those things inside their gifts
04:10until, of course, Mr. Hooper came and saved the day.
04:12He would then give back the gifts,
04:14and Ernie discovered he got Rubber Ducky back,
04:16and Bert finally got his paperclip collection back.
04:20The moral of the story was, in the end,
04:22I don't really what would the end,
04:23I guess in the end,
04:24going to a store where you actually have money
04:26would be the moral of the story.
04:28Rubber Ducky, though, looks cute, looks adorable.
04:31We don't actually have ourselves a full-size bathtub
04:33that Ernie can sit inside,
04:34so we can't break out the song Rubber Ducky
04:36and do the duck, rubber duck,
04:38and everybody's kind of strangely really dancing
04:40all around Ernie while he's sitting naked in a bathtub.
04:43But anyways, he'll again be dancing around Rubber Duck,
04:45Rubber Duck, Duck, Duck, Duck, Duck, Duck, Duck.
04:47Anyways, he does come and include
04:48with a couple of swappable hands as well.
04:50Now he has, what I've seen at least of images online,
04:53he comes with kind of hands,
04:54so if you want to have him displayed Rubber Ducky,
04:57I think Rubber Ducky is kind of posed like that,
04:59he takes the other hand,
05:00kind of puts it like this.
05:01I don't really know why, really.
05:04Really, one of these hands, too,
05:05there's, I think it's this hand,
05:06one of them is actually better suited
05:08for holding Rubber Ducky.
05:09You kind of have to have him strangling Rubber Ducky.
05:12And you can have him carrying around Rubber Ducky that way.
05:16Quick, take a tally.
05:17How many times have I already said Rubber Ducky?
05:19Okay, maybe don't take a tally.
05:20If you didn't want to swap out the hands,
05:21oh, by the way, he also has this hand, too,
05:23which I guess if you didn't want to strangle Rubber Ducky as much,
05:26you could just kind of brace the duck gently in his hand.
05:29To change out the hands, by the way,
05:31and by the way, the other hands that he has
05:33are a couple of just gestured hands,
05:34you just go ahead and remove the hand like that.
05:37Whoops, let's not remove Ernie's head in the meantime.
05:40And let's just find a hand that we want to use.
05:42Let's take this hand here and just plug it back in place.
05:45There we go.
05:47I think I knocked Bird over in the meantime.
05:49I got a concussion.
05:51No, stop that.
05:53Put him off to the side.
05:53The other thing that Ernie comes included with as well
05:55is a swappable head sculpt.
05:58Now, if you have this head,
05:59I mean, obviously, there's a very distinct difference between the two.
06:02This one's got more of the closed mouth, just smiling face.
06:04This one has the open mouth.
06:06Maybe he's laughing.
06:07I don't know.
06:08You know, one thing I was kind of thinking, too,
06:09that if NECA wanted to get some mileage out of this mold,
06:11that's always something we always tend to talk about in these reviews.
06:14I would love to see them release the King Tut Ernie
06:16in the episode where they actually go inside the museum,
06:18and Ernie is swearing that the statue is looking at him.
06:22I think at one point they could start dancing together.
06:25Yeah, I would love them to just reuse.
06:27Maybe, if anything, they would have to use these head sculpts.
06:29They obviously couldn't use the same body
06:31because the other one is in, like, a King Tut outfit.
06:33But release a King Tut San Diego convention.
06:36Maybe exclusive Ernie.
06:37That would be so fantastic.
06:39Unfortunately, one thing I've noticed, though,
06:40with the head of Ernie is it doesn't do a great job at all
06:43of staying onto the ball joint,
06:44as you probably have already seen.
06:46The head does attach, but it doesn't attach very well.
06:50First of all, you're dealing with a very short post,
06:52and then you're dealing with a ball joint on top of that.
06:54If you look at how much Ernie's head goes down,
06:57if really, again, we could look at the source material,
06:59and the only thing I really have right now is the portrait,
07:01Ernie's head technically should go right to his collar.
07:03He really shouldn't have much longer of a neck like this.
07:07I would imagine the reasoning why they chose to do this
07:09was so that the figure could actually have some possibility
07:11where you'd be able to move the head around, for example.
07:13The problem that goes with that, though,
07:15is that Ernie's head is always popping off.
07:18Now, this head stays on a little bit better than this head.
07:21I found that this head was so difficult,
07:22even with hot water, to get to stay onto the ball joint.
07:25Again, you just hold onto the torso
07:27and just pop off Ernie's head like that
07:30and just pop it back in place,
07:32or the new head back in place.
07:34Again, you can add as much pressure as you want.
07:36Certainly would recommend heating this up in hot water,
07:38but it just doesn't stay very well.
07:42And I think a lot of it has really to do with the fact that
07:44there's so much of his head,
07:46and then there's so very little posts to go around.
07:49You can plug it onto the head,
07:50you can plug it onto the ball joint,
07:51but it never stays in place.
07:54Again, I'm just doing my best to kind of get in place there.
07:56That's what it would look like.
07:57But I know the moment I start to move the head around,
07:59like it's on the ball joint,
08:00but it's barely on the ball joint.
08:04Let's stay that at least in place for right now.
08:06And then we'll have a look at the rest of the figure.
08:08Now, for the rest of Ernie's body,
08:11blasted head, blasted head.
08:13There we go.
08:13You know what?
08:13Let's just go back to the head
08:14that I know is going to stay better in place.
08:16And then we go to the turntable,
08:18then I'm going to reheat the head
08:20because I think it's had too much time to cool.
08:22Okay, so we're going to go back to this head.
08:24Keep it with me.
08:25Leave it with me.
08:26For the rest of Ernie's body,
08:27it is very much similar to Bert's
08:30in the sense that the body is kind of more of a softer plastic.
08:33Now, whereas Bert would have had vertical striping,
08:35Ernie seems to prefer horizontal striping,
08:38which honestly, just between you and me,
08:40I think it makes him a little fuller.
08:42But yeah, this is a much softer plastic.
08:44The arms, obviously, are harder plastic.
08:46I think they've done a nice enough job, too,
08:47of matching the colorings of the stripes.
08:49The yellow is the one thing, really,
08:51that stands a little bit more.
08:52You don't see it really as much, though, on his arms,
08:54but I think they've matched the colors
08:56on what he looks like pretty close.
08:58Ernie is one of those characters, as well, as a Muppet,
09:00that actually did have real hands.
09:02In order to pull that off,
09:03like if we bring back in Bert's,
09:05Frank Oz, when he did Bert's,
09:06would basically just have his hand underneath.
09:08Sorry, Bert.
09:09He'd stick his hand basically inside the torso of Bert,
09:12and then he'd use wires to move his arms around.
09:15Because, though, Ernie was actually using
09:17a much larger body,
09:19usually then...
09:21I'm trying to think of now his name.
09:23Jim Hansen.
09:23Jim Hansen, thank you.
09:25Jim Hansen would have his hand inside Ernie's torso,
09:28and then he would use one of his hands
09:29to then control the other.
09:31And then, of course,
09:32you'd have another puppeteer over here.
09:33This is not really what a puppeteer would look like.
09:35The other puppeteer would actually have
09:36a completely separate sleeve
09:37from the rest of Ernie's body,
09:39and then his hand would basically be over here.
09:41It's really interesting.
09:42You can actually look it up online.
09:43Again, Jim Hansen would have then provided the voice.
09:45The late Jim Hansen would have provided
09:47the voice for Ernie.
09:48But I think for the most part,
09:49it looks really like the character.
09:51Sneakers are not one thing we tend to see too often
09:53when it comes to Ernie,
09:54or Bert, for that matter.
09:55I think they've done a nice job
09:56to sculpt and paint those.
09:57Of course, you've got himself
09:58kind of his more blue slacks.
09:59I don't know if they're actually jeans,
10:01but they have some possibility in there as well.
10:03We'll kind of talk about that in a second.
10:04Bernie does, again, look the parts.
10:06And again, when you have Ernie displayed with Bert,
10:09I think you really couldn't do one
10:11without getting the other.
10:12Now, for the figures articulation,
10:14this is, again,
10:14where we're going to have
10:15a little bit of a harder time.
10:17Ernie's head, in theory,
10:18stays on the ball joint,
10:19and this head actually does a better job
10:21of staying on the ball joint.
10:22But even to move it back and forth
10:24isn't so bad.
10:25It's when you kind of move the head up and down.
10:27Maybe that's the thing I'm doing wrong.
10:28I shouldn't really be moving it up and down.
10:30Back and forth is fine and good,
10:32but the moment you kind of move it up,
10:33it pops so very easily off the ball joint.
10:36And again, this one seems to be even worse.
10:39As for the top of the torso now,
10:41it's going to also be on a ball joint.
10:42You can easily rotate it back and forth.
10:44There is a little bit of a crunch
10:45where you can move the figure's top torso
10:47up and down.
10:48Sure enough, Ernie's arms rotate
10:49all the way around.
10:50You can hinge them out
10:51almost at a 90 degree angle bend,
10:53just a little less than that.
10:55There's a single hinge only in the elbow.
10:57I know some people really would prefer
10:58double hinges, but I mean,
10:59he's, come on guys, he's a Muppet.
11:00I can't imagine really,
11:01are you going to be putting Ernie
11:03in karate poses?
11:04Probably not.
11:04Somebody says,
11:05oh, somebody in the back said that he would.
11:07I think, buddy, that's a little weird.
11:09An elbow bend, yes,
11:10gets afforded to Ernie.
11:12And then he also has the arm swivel there as well.
11:14Hands rotate all the way around.
11:15You can hinge those back and forth.
11:17As for his legs,
11:18split only that far.
11:20You can move them forward,
11:21sure enough,
11:22and also back as well.
11:23There's a swivel there at the top of the thigh.
11:25Single hinge in the knee,
11:26although with these knees,
11:27they're very tight.
11:28But you can rotate the lower leg as well.
11:31Ankle pivot,
11:31up and down,
11:32up and down it goes.
11:33And also an ankle rocker.
11:35These figures do also have
11:36pegles on the bottoms of their feet.
11:37Not that Ernie necessarily really needs
11:39a ball joint,
11:40or a peg joint
11:41on the bottoms of his feet.
11:42He seems to really stand fine
11:43if you have him leaning just right.
11:45And of course,
11:45bringing back in Bert.
11:47You know,
11:47to get and review Bert,
11:49I mean,
11:49it would be a safe assumption to make
11:50that I probably would have picked up an Ernie
11:52and finally having a chance to look at him.
11:54You know,
11:54again,
11:54like to go back and look at these letters.
11:57Initially thinking again,
11:58they were going to be spelling out the letter.
11:59In actual fact,
12:00they're spelling out NECA.
12:02NECA.
12:03We still got to get ourselves,
12:04I still have to get my hands on the counts.
12:07Counts,
12:07count,
12:08of course,
12:08the time before it takes me
12:09before I finally get that figure.
12:11I don't know still
12:12what the letter N is going to be.
12:14Maybe it's going to be a big bird.
12:15Maybe it might be even Cookie Monster.
12:16I kind of feel like Cookie Monster,
12:18unless they've already announced
12:19and I just missed the mark completely.
12:21Then,
12:21of course,
12:21we're going to finish NECA.
12:23And then after that,
12:23I don't know.
12:24I mean,
12:24maybe we are going to be getting
12:25more Sesame Street characters.
12:26I certainly hope that we do.
12:27I think NECA's done a fine job,
12:28a fine job,
12:29of giving us the characters
12:30that we've gotten so far.
12:31And of course,
12:32with Ernie,
12:33you got to,
12:33if you're going to have Ernie,
12:34you're going to have to have yourself
12:35the rubber ducky.
12:36Shame,
12:36though,
12:36that he doesn't actually come and include
12:37with a little soap dish
12:38that the rubber ducky could sit inside.
12:41But of course,
12:41if Bert's going to come
12:42with his prized possession
12:43of the paperclip collection,
12:45you'd like to think,
12:46though,
12:46that Ernie's going to come and include
12:47with a little rubber ducky.
12:48While they may not have been
12:49packaged together,
12:49they certainly still live together
12:51and all the more reason
12:52why to wrap up the review for Ernie
12:53had to bring back
12:54his best pal Bert.
12:56Both the figures do look
12:57the way they do in the episodes.
12:58The only thing that's a little
12:59losing the illusion
13:00is the fact that they have legs.
13:02I mean,
13:02in really the episodes
13:03of Sesame Street,
13:04it would be the puppeteer's arm
13:05inside the cavities of their torso
13:07and they never end up having legs.
13:09Every once in a while,
13:10though,
13:10you'd see a Muppet doing something,
13:12whether it be walking,
13:13whether it be dancing.
13:14I think there has been
13:15dance numbers
13:15where Ernie has broken out in dance.
13:17Of course,
13:17then you'd be able to have
13:18the chance to see
13:19his working legs.
13:20One thing I did want to
13:21bring your attention to,
13:22though,
13:23is if you look on the back
13:24of the figure's body,
13:25Bert doesn't seem to have this
13:26as much as Ernie does.
13:28There's a really obvious line
13:30that goes from one ear
13:31to the other,
13:31sort of suggesting the idea
13:33that Ernie's head
13:34was molded separately,
13:35the top from the bottom.
13:37Maybe they had to do that
13:39in order the way
13:39they painted the inside
13:40of his mouth.
13:41You would kind of ask
13:42the question,
13:43I ask the question,
13:44why wouldn't they have
13:44just molded the head
13:45as one piece?
13:46Not designing or making toys
13:48for that matter,
13:48I can't really be
13:49the bold person to say,
13:50like,
13:50why wouldn't they have done this?
13:51There's probably an obvious
13:52reason why they did.
13:54At least from the front,
13:55you don't see that it's there.
13:57Unfortunately,
13:57though,
13:58when changing out
13:58the heads of Ernie,
13:59they can be
14:00a little troublesome.
14:01Because the figure's head
14:02is sculpted the way
14:03that it is.
14:04I guess they did that
14:05so the head would have
14:06some mobility.
14:07Unfortunately,
14:07any time of moving
14:09the figure around,
14:10its mobility causes
14:11the head to pop off
14:12the ball joint frequently.
14:14His accessories still,
14:15he comes included
14:16with a capital C.
14:17Even though,
14:17really,
14:18he's the volume one figure,
14:19so he's really
14:19the first in the series,
14:21he comes with
14:21the third letter.
14:22A letter,
14:23by the way,
14:23though,
14:24that doesn't spell
14:24out the ABCs,
14:25but N-E-C-A.
14:27Of course,
14:27the company NECA.
14:28He also comes included
14:29with his rubber ducky.
14:30I'm glad to see
14:31he at least has that.
14:32And while Ernie
14:33does also come
14:34included with the portrait,
14:35the portrait will involve
14:36you having to mount
14:37it onto the wall.
14:38I don't know if I'm
14:39going to be using myself
14:40a thumbtack or a nail.
14:41I might even just
14:41take a bit of sticky tack
14:42and mount it on the back
14:43so I don't leave
14:44a hole in the wall.
14:45What do you guys
14:46think of Ernie?
14:46Let me know
14:47down below
14:47in the comments section.
14:48Certainly,
14:49though,
14:49I think it should be said
14:50that this figure
14:51probably could be used again.
14:52I mean,
14:52both Bert and Ernie
14:53has had some costume changes
14:54throughout the series,
14:55whether it is
14:56just catching fishies
14:58in a boat,
14:58or if they discover
14:59that King Tut ruins
15:00where they see
15:01Egyptian versions
15:02of themselves
15:03where Ernie's convinced
15:05the statue is talking to me.
15:07And then Bert proceeds
15:08to ask him
15:08what's the capital
15:09of Delaware?
15:10Hilarity ensues.
15:11But what do you guys,
15:12though,
15:12think of Sesame Street's
15:13Ernie?
15:14Let me know down below
15:15and if you guys
15:16have been collecting
15:16any of the NECA
15:17Sesame Street figures.
15:19If you are looking
15:19at right now
15:20the numbers,
15:20we've only really
15:21looked at two.
15:22I still want to get
15:22my hands on the count.
15:23I'm not really sure,
15:24though,
15:25which character
15:25is linked
15:26to the letter N.
15:27I have a reason
15:28to believe
15:28it's Cookie Monster,
15:30even though I don't
15:30think it's been announced.
15:31If it has,
15:32I'm sure somebody
15:33will let me know
15:33down below
15:34in the comments section.
