00:00I guess, periodically, Rex likes to take the form of CH2, CHXN.
00:04Here's your look at the McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse, the Superman movie, Metamorpho.
00:08The Superman movie, Metamorpho
00:38It's far more dangerous.
00:40In the hands of a villain like Lex Luthor, he can be deadly.
00:43Somebody's been giving Metamorpho the wrong information.
00:45They told him they could beat Superman with symbol KR and atomic number 36.
00:49Now, that's Krypton.
00:51That's the odorless gas used for lighting and photography.
00:54Unless you want to just take Superman's photo to death.
00:57I don't think you can be able to beat Superman at all with that.
00:59In the meantime, though, let's go ahead and take our tape measure and see how tall Metamorpho actually stands.
01:04Then, of course, we'll also bring in some of the other Superman movie figures that we've already had a look at.
01:07But Metamorpho, yeah, is going to be standing at about six and three quarters of an inch.
01:12That's translating to a figure that's 17 centimeters tall.
01:16Come to think of it, somebody that knows a little bit about photography is obviously Clark Kent, Superman's alter ego.
01:21Now, we don't have yet a Clark Kent, I would imagine, though.
01:23If it's McFarlane Toys, after all, that's running with this license, a Clark Kent will eventually happen.
01:28And I hope that at that time, we'll also get ourselves a Lois Lane.
01:31Sizing, though, I mean, even though we don't know what really how tall these characters are going to be in the movie,
01:36we know at least, though, that Superman's six foot four.
01:39Metamorpho, I can't imagine, is going to be that same size.
01:41So I'm basing at least on pre-knowledge of the movie that I think the sizing is probably correct.
01:46Here's also what he looks like as well with Lex Luthor.
01:49And still, though, when you're looking at the three figures together,
01:51Metamorpho is considerably shorter as a multiverse figure.
01:54Mason sadly only includes a display stand, a trading card, and some swappable hands over here.
01:59First, let's look at the display stand.
02:01I mean, no additional frills get afforded these display stands.
02:04That's pretty much the same multiverse stands that we've already gotten before.
02:07The DC logo is still there.
02:09He's still got a peg.
02:10Now, obviously, you're going to have two.
02:11I don't want to say obviously, but tell you, though, as well,
02:14that he does have two peggles on the undersides of his feet.
02:16Why are we waving our fingers so much around in this review?
02:19The display stand, we'll put it off to the side.
02:21Let's also look at his trading card.
02:22Now, the trading card is more closer to the basic release or the regular version of Superman
02:26in that they've given a white border and sort of an illustrated design of the characters,
02:31in this case, Metamorpho, and in this case, Superman.
02:34Quite very much different when you get to the theatrical versions of these characters.
02:38The theatrical deluxe versions do come include with more elaborate looking trading cards.
02:43You know, again, like I like these cards.
02:45I got to say, though, just for one that usually collects a lot of DC multiverse
02:48and trading cards that go with them, I like the white border.
02:51I think it's just so much more simpler.
02:52However, on the back of the card, his real name is Rex Mason, just in case you didn't know.
02:57This paragraph, you can also choose to read for yourself.
03:00I've already beaten you to it.
03:01I read it at the beginning of this review.
03:03Let's move that off to the side.
03:05So, yeah, the figure, unfortunately, only comes include with some swappable, interchangeable hands.
03:09Now, we don't really know all that much so far, but if we could kind of look and deduce the trailer,
03:14we sort of know that Superman's being in prison and that Metamorpho may have something to do with the fact,
03:19I'm still doing that with my fingers, still has maybe something to do with the fact
03:21that why Superman is a prisoner, because Metamorpho seems to be containing him
03:25with what looks to be, at one, a few scenes in the trailer, with a kryptonite hand.
03:30Now, it would have been splendid, splendid, that the figure could have come included with a kryptonite hand.
03:36Sadly, though, he doesn't.
03:38Sadly, though, the figure only comes with two gripping or two close fists,
03:41and then he also has a couple of kind of mauling hands.
03:44Now, one thing I do think that's really cool is that each of the hands are differently sculpted,
03:48because, of course, he has different elements.
03:50So, of course, you've got the purple hand.
03:52The purple hand will go on the purple side.
03:53Then you've got yourself the brown hand.
03:54The brown hand will go on the brown side.
03:56And then you're meeting in the middle.
03:58If you did want to change out the hands, they're not hard at all.
04:00I mean, basically, you're just going to hold on to the forearm.
04:02So, again, he's got close fists.
04:04Just sort of hold on to this textured arm, and then just pop that off the peg.
04:09Take the hand that you want to use.
04:10Again, we already have to know to match the colors up.
04:13So, again, you've got that hand, and we'll just do it on this side as well.
04:15So, I'm sure, though, with this mold now already being in their inventory,
04:20I would imagine they're probably going to be releasing maybe a red platinum edition version of Metamorpho,
04:24where maybe, in fact, they may incorporate some green coloring in there,
04:28sort of, again, based on what we've seen so far in the movie.
04:31For the sculpting, though, of Metamorpho, I've always been a big fan of Metamorpho.
04:35Characters that can change their elements.
04:37Absorbing Man is another one, although Absorbing Man is Marvel.
04:40This is clearly, though, DC.
04:41But I think the idea that he can change his form lends really well to the idea, too,
04:46that Lex Luthor can find a way to imprison Superman.
04:49Because, really, when you think of Superman, how could anyone be contained in a prison?
04:52How could Superman even be locked away in a prison cell?
04:56Unless, though, you incorporate the factor that Metamorpho can change his arm to, of course,
05:00the element of Kryptonite, even though, again, Kryptonite isn't on the periodic table.
05:04What I do really like about the sculpting of the figure is that it's very busy.
05:08The colors really don't match.
05:09But if you're a fan of Metamorpho from the comics, it fits the bill nicely.
05:14I think the head sculpt's really cool also on him, too.
05:16Like, it's not just a smooth, white, painted face.
05:18If you kind of look at all the things that are going on to the sculpting,
05:21he's got some spirals here.
05:23He's got some sculpting and texturing on the back of his head, too.
05:26There's a lot to take in as Metamorpho is changing his form.
05:29I think the face sculpt, from what at least we've seen,
05:32looks very much like Metamorpho from the movie.
05:35Of course, then when you start to look at all the sculpting that goes then into this figure,
05:38the one side, obviously, is your purple.
05:41And the purple, I think, is probably my favorite side
05:42because it also has all these lodged, kind of wedged in their stones.
05:46So he's got these jewels in blue.
05:48He's got a few crystals there in that kind of brown color onto the side as well.
05:52That sculpt also carries over to the side of his arm, too.
05:55In fact, the only place that he doesn't seem to have it,
05:57or he has a lot less of it, happens to be this area right here.
06:00And I can understand why they had to kind of limit some of the sculpting there
06:04because then he would be able to move the arm the way he's doing right now.
06:07Yeah. Sculpting also carries over the elbow, too.
06:10Now, this, too, when you're moving the arm, I was kind of thinking to myself,
06:13well, if they've added this sculpting here, would that cause conflict with bending the elbow?
06:17Not at all.
06:19Also, this side, too.
06:20While he doesn't have as much color on this side,
06:22it's kind of more of a, like, sandier-looking sculpt.
06:25Very cool there.
06:27The only thing I will say, also, is that the arm isn't quite really the same colors as torso.
06:31So, notably, here in the torso, it seems more lighter here and darker and almost even more faded on the arm.
06:38But I think, overall, like, the coloring's really good.
06:39The only thing I don't love, really, about the figure is the fact he does have, like, these wrestling trunks.
06:44I mean, we can give some realism, I suppose, to a character that looks as outrageous like this in the movie.
06:49I mean, I would have really preferred if they had given him, like, tights or something,
06:52but I guess maybe tights would make him look even more sillier.
06:55But the wrestling trunks does have, like, the black striping down the side.
06:58I mean, for what little paint that actually gets, I think they've done a nice job of that.
07:02And then, of course, we change the colors again when we get to the lower half of his body.
07:05So, on one side, he's kind of got more of a crystal element.
07:08And then, on the other side, perhaps something similar to Swamp Thing.
07:11Really nice use of sculpting and some browns added in there as well.
07:15There's not at all a piece for this figure.
07:17I mean, other than maybe, I would say, like, the joints.
07:18But I would say, outside of that, there's nothing really on this figure that feels left off in the paint department.
07:24Yes, the only thing that is very visible is when you get to, like, the knee joint
07:27and you get to the ankle.
07:29Both of them seem to be using, for reasons unknown, a different color of plastic altogether.
07:33They probably would have done a different plastic to ensure, though,
07:36that when you're bending his knee, for example, things aren't going to snap.
07:39This still seems to be using, like, a clear plastic.
07:42And probably using clear plastic would have been a big no-no.
07:44So, instead, they chose to use a more of an opaque plastic.
07:48It just kind of loses some of the illusion of having a seamless look to his leg.
07:53It's the only thing I really don't like about the figure.
07:54It's just that there is this white area on the knee.
07:56There is this white area on the ankle.
07:58But the rest of Metamorpho seems, though, generally complete.
08:03For the figure's articulation, we're going to start to his head and work our way down to his feet.
08:07Head's going to be on a ball joint, so it allows the head to rotate all the way around.
08:10Again, I want to show you guys what that head sculpt looks like.
08:13Very nice indeed.
08:15Seems to be a little red around the eyes.
08:17I wonder if Visine can get that out.
08:19Superman had that problem as well.
08:21Head's going to look up.
08:21It's going to look down.
08:23You can also move it back and forth as well.
08:24Yeah, you can rotate it all the way around.
08:26Arms are going to rotate, too.
08:27You can rotate them 360, 360.
08:30You can also hinge them out.
08:32Now, hinging them out, to bend them all the way, it almost delivers us a 90-degree angle bend.
08:38Just comes up just a tad bit short.
08:40Almost, though, a full T-pose.
08:42The arms do have a swivel in the bicep, whether you want to use this elemental side or the other.
08:49Bicep swivel.
08:50I'm getting that all tongue-tied.
08:51Double hinge on the elbows, and the hands rotate all the way around.
08:55For his lower half, or upper half, he has a ball joint in the torso.
08:59He has also a similar ball joint in his abdomen area.
09:02The legs split out, but by the nature of the way they've sculpted the trunks,
09:06because that's as far, without cracking or breaking anything after that,
09:09that's about as far that I can move his legs.
09:11About that far.
09:12You can take the legs and move forward, but very limited there.
09:15Also very limited when you try to move the legs back.
09:17Now, he has no swivel here.
09:19Or if he does, it's tight, though.
09:23This leg is also super tight, too.
09:25So, yeah, he does have a swivel.
09:26I assumed he probably would have had a swivel, but up to this point,
09:30I was having a hard time.
09:31I probably should have even heated that first.
09:33Double hinge on the knee.
09:34There is a little bit, also, of lost green that goes right on here and right on here.
09:39I mean, at least they painted the kneecap, so it's still pretty close.
09:42But unfortunately, though, this is one issue I'm also having with this figure,
09:46is that right here, and this has happened once,
09:50and I thought to myself, okay, that's probably going to be an isolated incident.
09:53When you bring the knee up, and you kind of bring it further forward,
09:57it starts right here to crack the plastic.
10:01Hasn't happened on this side.
10:03Not that I'm aware of, at least.
10:04But I noticed it, though, on this side.
10:06Only in the beginning, when I was first taking this figure out of the packaging,
10:09and I was sort of playing around with him,
10:11I thought, maybe that's not a split.
10:13Maybe my, just kind of wiping my eyes.
10:15Wiping and clearing my eyes.
10:16Maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me.
10:18No, no, it's now happened again.
10:20Bringing the legs too forcefully forward seems to start cracking the plastic,
10:25so you just want to be careful of that.
10:27The ankles do move forward and back.
10:28You have an ankle rocker.
10:30And then you also have, in both cases, whether you use the crystal or the swampy,
10:34both figures do also have, or both feet do have toe articulation as well.
10:37So, I like the look of the figure.
10:40I mean, he comes together well for a movie realistic metamorpho.
10:44I never thought this day would ever come that we'd have a movie metamorpho.
10:48Still don't love the trunks.
10:49I don't think the trunks is really working for me at all.
10:51I got to say, too, this isn't working for me.
10:53The fact that this is now, this is the second time.
10:56The first time I only barely noticed just a faint line happening here.
11:00But now, even showing you guys the articulation again, this has happened again.
11:04Just be careful moving that leg forward for, again,
11:06I don't know why it's on this side and not on the other.
11:09I got a crack of plastic right there.
11:11And I don't think it's going to develop any worse than what it is right now.
11:14But it's something certainly to keep in mind if you get metamorpho of the packaging.
11:17And sort of, again, you're just kind of moving the figure around for his posability points.
11:20We're going to put the figure down right here and, obviously, bring back in Super N.
11:25Let's put him right next to him.
11:28You know, again, I think we're probably going to be getting another version of metamorpho.
11:31That seems to be the bill when it comes to McFarland toys.
11:33And that's not a bad thing at all.
11:34I mean, if they've invested the budget to produce this mold,
11:38then, obviously, they want to get some mileage out of this mold.
11:40And I wouldn't be surprised at all that we don't get another version of metamorpho
11:43that maybe, instead of having just his regular elemental hands,
11:47maybe they'll swap that out.
11:48Maybe, in fact, they'll actually color the arm.
11:50I think it's on this side in the movie trailer where we see him turning sort of into kryptonite.
11:55I think it's on this side.
11:56But I think we would imagine that we're probably going to be getting a Platinum Edition metamorpho
11:59that is going to have the partially morphing kryptonite hand and kryptonite arm.
12:04Because that seems to be the only way that we know so far
12:06that Lex Luthor has been able to imprison the Man of Steel.
12:09I guess I do sound like a bit of a hypocrite.
12:11Because on one end, I really don't want Superman's first movie with James Gunn's universe
12:15to be bogged down and shared the screen time with other superheroes.
12:18But yet, on the other end, I'm happy that we finally have a screen presence of metamorpho,
12:23a guy, Gardner, and Hawkgirl.
12:25The fact that we have characters like that appearing on the big screen
12:27shows us there's a bigger world out there than just Superman alone.
12:32Maybe had they introduced only just one character,
12:35and then as subsequent sequels would have been developed,
12:38then maybe they could have introduced other superheroes.
12:40But, you know, saying that, though, I'm still happy that we finally have a metamorpho,
12:44and he's making it on the big screen.
12:46How much screen time, though, he actually does get in the movie.
12:50Whether, though, he's just a plot device for Lex Luthor,
12:52just to be the reason why Lex Luthor can actually imprison the Man of Steel.
12:57If that is all that we really get,
12:58maybe that might just be enough that we see metamorpho in future sequels.
13:01Again, I don't want to get ahead of myself.
13:03What we really need to see is whether a Superman movie can stand on its own,
13:07even though, really, Superman isn't standing on his own.
13:09He really does need the help of all these other characters as well.
13:12Metamorpho looks fantastic.
13:13I don't really like, again, that that top of his knee is cracking.
13:17I tried it again just before we jumped to the turntable.
13:20It hasn't cracked anymore,
13:21but I think it probably was just the force of bringing the light forward.
13:24I thought it was being careful,
13:26but now this has happened twice,
13:27and I hope it doesn't happen again.
13:29Again, when it comes to his accessories,
13:31not really much can be said.
13:32I mean, he does have a display stand,
13:33he does have a trading card,
13:34and he does have two swappable hands.
13:36I really wish he could have had more.
13:38There may be an opportunity,
13:39like we've gotten with the deluxe theatrical editions of these figures,
13:42that there may also be a deluxe theatrical release of Metamorpho,
13:45where he might have other swappable hands,
13:47different faces or different heads,
13:49and maybe they could incorporate some of the things
13:51that Metamorpho can turn into.
13:53Right now, he's only turning into plastic,
13:55and as a plastic figure, he does look fantastic.
13:58What do you guys think of Metamorpho?
13:59Let me know down below in the comments section.
14:01Do you also feel, though,
14:02that the Superman movie should have had a lot lighter
14:04of a superhero count,
14:06or do you like the idea that they throw in already
14:09the first Superman outing?
14:11James Gunn throws in some additional superheroes as well.
14:13What do you guys think?
14:14Do you feel like Superman should really have been
14:16a solo standalone movie,
14:17or do you like the idea that James Gunn
14:19has incorporated other characters too?
14:21If you guys did enjoy this video,
14:23dot, dot, dot,
14:24why don't you do it a solid throw to like?
14:25If you guys want to stick around for more so,
14:26and I hope so,
14:28coming up next too,
14:29we'll also be looking at the Superman robot.
14:31Yeah, Superman's robot from the Fortress of Solitude.
14:34So if you guys certainly want to see the reviews for that,
14:36making sure, though,
14:37you're coming back for that video.
14:38As always, guys, thanks for watching.
14:40See you guys next time.
