00:00Well, I hope that Hordak's at least buying these in bulk.
00:03Here's a look at the Mattel Master Universe New Eternia, the Mattel Creations Horde Trooper.
00:22The Horde Empire spreads across the decimated remains of New Eternia like a virus.
00:26Hordak commands his legions of Horde Troopers to attack and take all his prisoners.
00:30Each destined for the Fright Zone, these pitiful souls are then mind-wiped, brainwashed, and retrained as Horde Troopers,
00:36perpetuating the cycle until Hordak rules the entire planet.
00:39I suppose the best part about mind-wiping your troops is that you can then forget to pay them.
00:42Well, I didn't forget to pay for this Horde Trooper. I ended up ordering this from the Mattel Creations site.
00:47He was selling for $49 Canadian dollars. That's not bad, considering the size of the figure that he is.
00:52He's going to come with some accessories, too. We'll look at all those accessories in a second.
00:55First, though, as we always do, let's take the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands.
00:58I probably should not have had him so far away. Why am I reaching this far?
01:02The Horde Trooper, awkwardly, is going to stand at 8 1⁄2 inches in height, or roughly about 22 centimeters tall.
01:09I probably moved him back this far so it can have some space around him to bring in all the other figures,
01:14like, for example, Hordak.
01:16Now, if you're looking at Hordak, I'm just kind of doing the math in my head,
01:19a figure like this in Canada probably would have been about $35.
01:21I can't even get that out.
01:24Had I had a chance to find any of these figures, though, in the wild,
01:27I probably would have expected to pay about $35 for them.
01:30So what you're getting here for a difference of the two figures, that's about $10.
01:34And I guess that's not bad at all.
01:35Certainly not a bad either when you bring in, like, the new Etheria She-Ra.
01:39Now, this was a lot bigger of a figure than the original mold that they used for also Catra.
01:44So, you know, there's some size differences there.
01:46If you haven't, by the way, had the chance to check out my new Etheria She-Ra review,
01:50plug, plug, plug, shameless, shameless, shameless, feel free to give that a watch.
01:54Here's also what he looks like with Shadow Weaver.
01:56Why not, as well, bring in Grizzlor?
01:58And seeing as also that we're looking at the new version, the new Eternia version of the Horde Trooper,
02:04why not bring in, like, the original Horde Trooper?
02:06Now, this isn't, obviously, to be fair, the original Horde Trooper,
02:08but this is the closest thing to that.
02:10This was the one that we got from the Mattel Master Universe Origins line.
02:13And, oh, I think I also know why I brought him back that far, too.
02:16It's also to bring in the pedestal stand that the figure comes included with as well.
02:21What, he does?
02:22Technically, yeah.
02:23I mean, he does have a box that technically stores one of his accessories that we'll look at in a second.
02:28But then when you take that out of the box, there is at least a place to then store the figure.
02:32And then in the inside packaging, this actually would have looked this way.
02:35I would have taken it out of the box like that.
02:37There's a double-sided background.
02:39I don't think this background works at all.
02:41I mean, who's really...
02:42It's like those 70s and 80s Halloween costumes where, hey, I'm He-Man, but it's like a picture of He-Man.
02:48No one's doing that.
02:48He-Man's not doing that.
02:50But this is a case where I don't think I would ever really display this behind the Horde Trooper.
02:54Basically, you would just bend that and put that behind the figure just like that.
02:58Yeah.
02:59Kind of stupid, isn't it?
03:00Or what you can also do, too, in the more logical one, is that you can also have the headquarters.
03:05So that's pretty cool.
03:06I like the look of that.
03:07And even though, really, as much as I may sing the praises of having something like this display behind the figure, the likelihood of even myself doing that, I'm probably just going to put everything back in the box.
03:17I don't know if I'm really going to throw anything away, recycle anything away, but I think I might just kind of put things away.
03:23Maybe if I have a plan down the road to use a background like this, I can tell you I would use the background long before I'd use this box standee.
03:30I think that's, again, I don't think it's necessary at all.
03:32So let's just go ahead and take the Horde Trooper off.
03:35We'll just go ahead and remove the box.
03:36By the way, though, once you do open up the box, what you would have found inside is a bag.
03:41What's inside the bag, you may ask, would have been this piece right here.
03:44This piece snaps onto the back of his body.
03:46There's two pegs right here, and then there's sort of a kind of canal dividing the two villages right down the middle.
03:53This is where they get the water.
03:54They go over there with their pails and fetch their water for the day.
03:57But if you look at the back of the figure, actually, there's two holes right here.
04:01Right away, I'll tell you, though, I wish the color was a little closer.
04:04They've spent a lot of time to darken the gunmetal gray or the silver that they're using.
04:08Unfortunately, though, they didn't do that at all when it comes to this adapter piece.
04:13Why am I having such a hard time getting that out?
04:15But this, the reasoning why we have to use this is then to store the sword and store the spear.
04:20One of these, either of those, actually can't plug onto the back of the figure's body without this.
04:24So, again, you just kind of line everything up.
04:27Once you kind of do this the first time, it's kind of hard to take it.
04:29Oops! I just dropped it. Just dropped it. Butterfingers me.
04:33Let's go ahead and just, yeah, just line up the holes.
04:35There's the holes. There's the pegs.
04:36We're not going to eat a whole lot of this review just to talk about this.
04:39But just snap that in place like that.
04:41So, we're going to come back to that.
04:43Because the two following accessories that we'll look at next both snap on the back of that thing in that little canal where everybody goes to fetch a pail of water.
04:51You get yourself a sword. You get yourself a spear.
04:53Or a scepter. A staff. I guess a staff makes more sense.
04:56We'll look at the staff first.
04:57All of them sort of come to the table with, again, the carried over trait of Hordak.
05:03So, again, like you kind of got that dragon face.
05:05You got the bat wings on the side.
05:06That's very Hordak-esque, isn't it?
05:09I do like the look of this.
05:09This is kind of cool.
05:11It doesn't really have anything that I can see for the way of paint.
05:14But I think they've molded it really nicely in this dark red.
05:17The red actually matches really nicely to the crest that he has on the front of his chest.
05:20Now, he has that.
05:21He also comes in with a sword.
05:22I keep saying he.
05:24I don't know what he really identifies as.
05:25He identifies as dead.
05:27But, again, you got a little Horde symbol there.
05:29Hordak's face.
05:30I mean, that's ridiculous.
05:32Hordak's face is literally on the front of the guard.
05:35And then, again, you've got the wings on the sides.
05:37The color isn't quite as matching.
05:40I think, actually, like the scepter, the staff, I think is a little bit closer in color.
05:44Either one of these, by the way, or both of these, for that matter, can be attached to the figure's hands.
05:48One thing I don't really like, necessarily, is the way they've gripped the hands.
05:51They've done it, I'm sure, deliberately so that he can hold it better than had he just had, like, a C-clamp hand.
05:57Unfortunately, though, it does mean you have to work a little harder to get that in there.
06:00So, let's go ahead and take the staff.
06:03Again, just kind of wedge it in between.
06:04And it's not just enough to get it past the thumb.
06:06Oh, no.
06:07There's a mission still ahead of you.
06:08Once you plug it underneath the thumb, you kind of have to take this and snap it underneath the fingers.
06:14So, logically, I mean, you can understand why we arrived at where we did and why the hands have to kind of look arthritic like this.
06:20Because it's just so that once the staff gets underneath that, it's not going anywhere.
06:24I guess that makes some sense, right?
06:26You could also do the same thing.
06:27Rinse and repeat the steps, which I'm not going to do.
06:29Just put the sword obviously in his hand.
06:31Now, let's just say you're that kind of person that wants to be able to store stuff on your soldiers.
06:35Well, you know, again, like if you look on the back of the figure's body, this little canal, you take yourself the handle and expect pressure on your part to get this on his body.
06:46You really have to snap it in place.
06:48There's how he's sheathed the sword.
06:51And to do the same thing then with the staff, make sure the helmet's all the way on there.
06:55There we go.
06:56Take the staff, get it back from underneath his fingers.
06:59Let go, let go.
07:00And then do the exact same thing.
07:02So, again, you just kind of push, push against it.
07:05There we go.
07:05And snap it in place.
07:07Seems a little bit easier now that I've done it a couple of times.
07:09The first time you do it, you feel like there's no way that's going to fit.
07:13And then just, again, keep being persistent.
07:17So, again, there's a place at least to store the staff or the sword.
07:20You can't display both.
07:21So one will also have to go into his hands.
07:23So those are the accessories.
07:25Technically, he has one other thing that is removable, and that is his helmet.
07:29Now, here's a talking point I want to introduce to everybody.
07:32Horde troopers aren't robotic.
07:34They're not?
07:35Apparently not in the world of New Eternia, they're not.
07:38These are apparently prisoners that, again, he mind wipes, and then he turns.
07:42He essentially takes the idea of the tall man and how he gets, like, those little dwarves.
07:46Do we call them dwarves anymore?
07:48That's sort of what Hordak's doing.
07:50He takes his prisoners, he mind wipes them, and somehow he turns them into, like, walking corpses.
07:54It's sort of been disgusting when you kind of think of the fact that these robots are blowing up in the cartoons.
07:58I mean, obviously, a completely different backstory altogether.
08:00I prefer more the idea that a Horde trooper is a robot so that you can go in there and just nonchalantly blow these things to Kingdom Come and not worry that there's a human or former human life or alien life underneath the armor.
08:13I mean, could you imagine if the Ninja Turtles were destroying all the foot soldiers?
08:17And then, sure enough, like, Michelangelo looks down and, wait a minute, is there, like, blood coming out of the head of the foot trooper?
08:24And then they just find out that the foot soldiers have all been human ninjas.
08:28Dead ninjas, but still.
08:29Human ninjas underneath.
08:30I prefer these things to be automatons, robotic automatons.
08:35Why I say all that so long-windedly is the fact that this does actually have a removable helmet.
08:39The helmet default looks good, though.
08:42Unfortunately, though, by using translucent yellow plastic, it loses some of the charm that maybe, like, the original Horde troopers would have had.
08:50Because, again, like, to go in there and paint this yellow, from a distance, far away, you could still make out that it's yellow.
08:56This, unfortunately, though, like, it loses some of that by having this being translucent plastic.
09:01Further away, though, it doesn't have the impact.
09:04I don't feel like it has the impact.
09:06You can remove, though, the helmet.
09:07And this is, again, like, something I'm not so crazy about.
09:10This, by the way, what I'm showing you right now, will never find its way on the shelf displayed this way.
09:15By the way, the figure's head does technically have poseability.
09:17So, you can't, you know, you can't really move it up and down, but you can at least swivel it back and forth.
09:23To get access to the head underneath, you basically just pry the top off.
09:27And this is basically what it would look like underneath.
09:29Maybe an orc?
09:30It kind of looks a little like an orc.
09:32But the face itself gives us, again, the idea, like, don't be destroying these things so casually.
09:37Because, again, there's a life, there's a body underneath, whether the life has passed years ago or not.
09:43Now, they say, though, that he mind-wipes these things.
09:46So, again, like, now that I think about it, you're not killing corpses.
09:48You're killing still-living creatures.
09:51This is down the rabbit hole of a discussion I really didn't want to really have.
09:54Anyways, the face sculpt underneath is okay.
09:57If you like, you know, if you like this kind of backstory to the Horde Trooper, then I guess it's okay.
10:03I mean, like, underneath, though, it's kind of interesting that they've used, like, translucent red plastic.
10:08It doesn't serve a purpose, necessarily.
10:10So, I mean, it's not like you can really, I guess, if you got in there with a light, do I have a light source?
10:15Do I have a light source?
10:16Take yourself a light source and shine it underneath.
10:19Would that be enough to illuminate this?
10:20Probably not.
10:22Yeah.
10:22No, it's not going to illuminate much of anything.
10:24The top does look like you might be able to remove it.
10:27But I don't know really how abouts you'd be able to detach it.
10:30It looks like it does.
10:31It looks like it's possibly pegged.
10:32Not to the point where I feel confident enough to try to lift that up.
10:35So, like, again, he's got all this translucent red plastic.
10:37I don't think really serves much of a purpose, unless the idea is that you can get in there and light that up.
10:42And that's maybe why they chose to use, like, translucent yellow plastic.
10:47One thing you can also do, too, is that you can take this out altogether.
10:51Just take your finger, push against the plastic, and then fish it out.
10:55This wasn't giving me so much of an issue before, but just fish.
10:59There we go.
10:59Fish this out.
11:00And if you wanted to, it's not that it can really see much out of it.
11:04But as an alternative, you could put the helmet back onto his face, and he can look at you with his mind-wiped eyes.
11:12I don't know.
11:13It's just not my thing, really.
11:14Let's go ahead and put that back in place, though.
11:17And technically, though, I mean, also, the mind-wiped prisoner underneath does technically have poseability.
11:22So you can move the head up and down, and you can rotate it all the way around.
11:26You know, again, like, if that's you, if you like that,
11:29that's okay.
11:30I'm not going to judge you at all.
11:32I, again, prefer to really have these things always mindless, always nameless.
11:36I don't want these guys to have backstories at all.
11:38I don't need to feel guilty at all that I'm blowing up a whore trooper, a foot soldier.
11:42I need these things just to be robots.
11:45By the way, again, I'm just going to put this back in place.
11:47All you have to really do is to use the, like, kind of guide the lifted plastic where the
11:51sculpting of the eyes are.
11:52Just kind of, like, line everything up in here and snap it back in place.
11:56Why?
11:57Why now?
11:57Why now?
11:58Are we having such a hard time doing this?
12:02There we go.
12:03Something was just kind of telling me, just leave it alone.
12:05Just leave it alone.
12:06You don't like it.
12:07Don't even bother showing them.
12:08But I thought to myself, no, I'll show the viewers that you can take that off if you want
12:11to.
12:12Once you snap that back in place, there's a little plastic on all the sides.
12:16You sort of just, like, snap it in to, like, the collar piece around it.
12:20For the rest, though, of the whore trooper, if you overlook that part, I mean, he's pretty
12:23faithful to the original design.
12:26This one did also blow up as well.
12:27So I think a little button here on the front, you pop it.
12:31I think it popped it.
12:32Let's take some blunt object.
12:36The idea, though, is it's supposed to blow up.
12:38It doesn't always work effectively.
12:40This whore trooper doesn't have that at all.
12:42What it does, though, is it still delivers us a pretty classic look to the character.
12:46Again, you've got Hordak's symbol there on the front.
12:48Looks quite good.
12:50The plastic looks really good, too.
12:52Like, it's a shame, though, like, the color doesn't quite match the silver on the back.
12:55But if you're looking at the figure all the time from the front, you'd be none the
12:58wiser.
12:59It's a nice gold that's been added in there as well.
13:00I kind of feel like the figure's a little on the, I don't want to say hollow side, but it's
13:04that kind of plastic that bulkier figures tend to have, where they don't weigh a whole
13:08lot.
13:09I mean, but there's mass to them.
13:10Does that make sense?
13:11Like, there's a good size to the figure, but he doesn't, like, if you were to add up all
13:15the weights of all the parts and the pieces, I don't think he would equate to a very heavy
13:20figure.
13:21He's also very wobbly there in the top of his torso.
13:24Again, we spin this around and show you guys all the details on this.
13:27I was kind of surprised.
13:29I expect to really see a lot of marbled plastic, but that doesn't seem to be the case at all.
13:34Plastic looks really good on this.
13:36Now, for the figure's articulation for the Horde Trooper, if you chose to take the helmet
13:41off, I'm not going to judge you if that's what you want to do.
13:43Technically, you'd have more of a posability with the ball joint inside.
13:47With the helmet the way that it is right now, the only thing you can really do is rotate
13:50this back and forth.
13:51Technically, all the way around, really, if you want to.
13:54The top of the torso does move.
13:56It is also on a ball joint, but again, it's a bit of the dinner bell, unfortunately.
14:00The lower half of his body is a little loose.
14:02The arms move forward and back.
14:03No problems there.
14:04You can also hinge the arms out comfortably because the way that they sculpted the shoulders,
14:09giving him, though, the T-pose is an easy thing to pull off.
14:13The figure does also have a swivel in his bicep.
14:16Single hinge only for the elbow.
14:17If you have the arm turned this way, don't expect much.
14:20If you have it turned, however, this way, expect at least a 45 degree.
14:23Angle bent.
14:24Hands rotate all the way around.
14:26You can hinge those back and forth.
14:27The legs do split.
14:29Unfortunately, though, he's got these discs on the sides of his belt that do, unfortunately,
14:33cause conflict if you want to give this guy further splits than what I'm doing right now.
14:38However, though, you can move them forward.
14:39You can move them back.
14:40These legs do seem like you could drop them down.
14:43I mean, again, like if you just bring them up like this, obviously, this is how it looks
14:46a little bit more seamless.
14:48I guess the idea is if you bring the legs down, that's where you get a little bit of mobility.
14:51But look at that.
14:53I mean, really, had that changed all that much?
14:55That's what it could do before bringing the legs down.
14:58That's what it can do right now.
14:59It's only by just a little bit more.
15:01Again, we just kind of pop that back in place.
15:05There's a swivel at the top of the thigh.
15:07There is a double hinge on the knee.
15:09That's at least good.
15:10And then you've got ankle articulation.
15:12Not only does it move up and down, but you can also rock it back and forth as well.
15:15I don't know really if I had the chance to show you guys what it looks like on the undersides
15:18of his feet.
15:19He kind of actually looks like he's wearing like Batman's boots by the fact that there's
15:22a similar right there.
15:23I think that's supposed to be horrid.
15:25All in all, though, it's a nice looking figure.
15:27For what it does as a hidden feature is a hidden feature I have no plans ever to display
15:32with the figure, even if I plan to get more of these for at least the price that they're
15:36selling for under $50.
15:38That's not bad.
15:39At the time, though, I did do the review of Despera was actually the time that I pulled
15:43the trigger and eventually got myself a Horde Trooper.
15:45I know he's a little older, but he's still, though, I figured I eventually wanted to add
15:49to my collection.
15:49If you like the look of this Horde Trooper and you want something just a bit bigger,
15:53this is a perfect piece to get for that.
15:55You know, again, he does have some cool, pretty cool accessories.
15:58Again, he's got the staff.
15:59He's got also the sword.
16:00One can be displayed in his hand.
16:01And technically, really, both could be displayed in his hand.
16:03Or one can also be pegged on the back of his body.
16:07Again, the only thing I really don't like is the idea of giving him a backstory that
16:11he's a mind-wiped prisoner.
16:12I like my Horde Troopers like I like my foot soldiers.
16:15They need to be robust.
16:16You need to have a hero carelessly, I mean carelessly, destroying hundreds of these things
16:22without the worry at all that there's actually a human life or an alien life underneath.
16:26Further taking me away from the way I like my Horde Troopers.
16:29Yes, yes.
16:30In fact, you can take the entire shoulder piece off.
16:33The shoulder does attach with pegs and they attach to the tops of his shoulders.
16:37With a little lifting and a little persistence, yeah, you can take the shoulders off altogether.
16:43And this is what he would look like underneath, which would then explain why the figure does
16:47have the translucent red plastic.
16:49They have sculpted some cool details underneath.
16:51But again, we get so further removed away from what I really want my Horde Troop to look
16:56like.
16:56In the end, I suppose if you wanted to maybe army build these guys, some of them could look
17:01the way they look right now.
17:02Some of them could beeline it back to the way they should really look, if you ask me.
17:07Now, unfortunately, though, one of the unfortunate trade-offs is not only does he look a whole lot
17:11fuglier, but once you then take off the shoulder piece, there's no storage space to store
17:16the staff.
17:18So unfortunately, though, he's going to have to be relegated to having either both in his
17:21hand or just choose wisely one of them and leave the other one in a bag.
17:25That little background, though, is one thing that, well, I like that they included it.
17:30I mean, to have it double-sided like this, who in their right mind is going to really
17:34display a Horde Trooper with a picture of a Horde Trooper behind him?
17:37What message are we conveying here?
17:39If this is the background of his battlefield, why would there be a big picture of him, unless
17:44he paid someone to do a mural of him?
17:47But then, as a mind-wiped prisoner, who's paying a painter to paint a mural of him?
17:53I can't imagine a Horde, a Horde Axe doing that.
17:55He's already saving the money on these mind-wiped prisoners.
17:58He ain't paying them.
17:59I can't imagine that he's going to be paying a painter to paint a mural of them either.
18:03What did we even talk about?
18:05Well, we did originally start with the idea that the Horde Trooper is available on Mattel
18:09Creation's site.
18:10As far as I know, it's the only place to pick this figure up.
18:12It's hard to say, though, that I'm sure you could probably go to other online sites.
18:15Maybe they also have listings of the Horde Trooper available there as well.
18:19But I can tell you, though, at the time that I picked up Despair was the time I picked up
18:22the Horde Trooper, and the Horde Trooper is still currently available on their site for
18:26$49 Canadian.
18:27I'm US!
18:28Okay, well, if you're US, expect to pay a little less than that.
18:31I can only speak as being a Canadian collector.
18:33As a Canadian collector, I paid a little less than $50.
18:36Let me know down below in the comment section what you guys think of the Horde Trooper, and which
18:39look do you like more of him?
18:40Do you like him being unmasked?
18:42Do you even like the idea that a Horde Trooper is a person or a creature underneath, living
18:47or otherwise?
18:48I prefer, really, my Horde Troopers to be robots.
18:51Do you guys agree with that?
