00:00 I seek the one you call Superman. For years I believed I had destroyed Krypton and all its remnants.
00:07 Superman's survival is an oversight I must correct.
00:10 Here's your look at the brand new McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Injustice 2 Brainiac.
00:16 [music]
00:43 Originally from the planet most frequently named Kolu, Brainiac's artificial mind and body have morphed several times over the decades.
00:50 But this unquenchable thirst for absolute knowledge, regardless of the billions of innocent lives which might be destroyed in the process,
00:55 has made him one of the deadliest villains the universe has ever seen.
00:59 For Brainiac, the knowledge he acquires is only valuable if he and he alone possesses it and no one else.
01:05 Before we look at Brainiac and all the accessories he's acquired,
01:08 I've got the tape measure here to tell us that the figure stands about 7 inches in height,
01:12 or he's going to be about 18 centimeters tall.
01:15 Now I'll tell you, I generally don't like Injustice 2 when it comes to character designs.
01:19 Many of the superhero suits, for example, I just feel are overcomplicated.
01:23 Instead of just giving them regular fabric suits, we have to even give characters like Flash armor.
01:27 Why are we giving Flash the armor?
01:29 Brainiac, though, is one exception to that rule because, first of all, I really am a big fan of Brainiac.
01:34 I feel he hits my top ten when it comes to all-time favorite villains.
01:38 I think the character design of Brainiac, there's enough there at least that I recognize Brainiac
01:43 that I wanted to at least get my hands on this figure.
01:45 I don't have my hands yet on an Injustice 2 Superman,
01:48 so for right now at least I'm going to have the stand-in of the DC Rebirth Superman
01:52 so you can see the differences of the sizes.
01:54 Also, as well, if you want to see what he looks like just with a regular sized Batman,
01:58 well, not again from the game, here's what he looks like with the Nightfall Batman.
02:01 And because, again, I don't have a lot of Injustice 2 figures,
02:04 I do have another character that makes an appearance in a video game.
02:06 Here's what he looks like with the Mortal Kombat's Joker.
02:09 Running now through the figure's accessories, Brainiac first comes in clear with the black circular DC logo stand.
02:15 Nothing is here really telling us that this stand belongs to an Injustice character
02:18 as it's basically just, again, the DC logo printed down below.
02:21 The one peg, of course, can attach to either one of the feet of Brainiac.
02:25 You have to choose, really, because, again, you have two feet, you have one peg,
02:27 and move the stand off to the side.
02:29 Rather interesting looking card, though.
02:31 He also comes in clear with a card that has the depiction of the character from the game.
02:34 He looks very swollen, very chunky in the face.
02:37 But, again, it has enough there that I recognize the character,
02:41 as this will certainly be a stand-in for, right now, at least, of my Brainiac figures,
02:45 because we don't really have any other ones that we got from McFarlane's team.
02:47 We do also have a variation to this one, which is slightly purple-tinted.
02:51 I think it's supposed to kind of look more like the classic-looking Brainiac
02:54 by still utilizing still this suit, but it's going for crazy stupid money.
02:57 And I don't think I love this figure enough, I really don't love this figure enough,
03:00 to venture out and pay the extra prices to get the variant version of this guy.
03:04 But you can see, kind of just right away, how there is a lot more paint applications,
03:08 obviously, here on the original source material,
03:10 and not nearly enough of it, actually, on the figure itself.
03:13 If we flip around, though, to the back, Brainiac from Injustice 2.
03:16 His real name is actually Vril Dox, and then down below, there's a fairly long paragraph read.
03:21 You can pause and read for yourself, if you so wish.
03:23 It happens to be the very same thing I read at the beginning of this review.
03:26 Shh! Don't tell anybody.
03:28 If everybody else hears that, they'll want me to narrate for them as well.
03:31 I'm going to put this also off to the side.
03:33 That's going to go with the rest of my trading cards.
03:35 I think the only other Injustice 2, now that I think about it, I have also a Flash.
03:39 Speaking of Flash, unnecessarily armored, I have that figure, I don't even know where.
03:43 Do I even really care? I don't. I don't really care.
03:46 What I do, though, care about is the fact that the figure of Brainiac does also come included with all these tentacles.
03:51 He gets one that kind of looks something that you'd expect to see with Doc Ock.
03:55 He gets these ones that have little claws on the ends of it,
03:57 and then he also has these ones that have spikes on the end of it.
04:00 They seem to be very similarly pegged on the ends of these.
04:03 So if you were to, say, look at one, you'd be hard-pressed to kind of know exactly where they belong.
04:08 I mean, obviously, you don't even really know where they belong unless you have this figure already.
04:11 Take the figure, spin him around to the back, and located on the back,
04:15 you actually have two holes to the top, two holes closer to his armpits,
04:18 and then you're going to basically take these.
04:20 I don't think they have a designated place.
04:22 I haven't played enough of the game to really know that, OK, like, the spike, for example,
04:26 always has to go to the bottom.
04:28 If you really wanted to, you can also have them here on the top.
04:30 They plug in exactly the same way, so it's not the case where the pegs are telling you right away where they have to go.
04:36 At the beginning, I actually had, like, the claws, for example, sort of on the top,
04:40 and then the kind of spiky spike there down below kind of being the ones that actually come out from the bottom of his body near his abdomen area.
04:47 But really, you can have them any which way that you want.
04:49 Say, for example, you want to have Brainiac with alternating one,
04:52 other than just having a nitpicking friend that would come over and just say,
04:55 "Hey, buddy, I don't think that's supposed to go there,"
04:58 and then you basically will have to send him on his way.
05:00 You can really have them any which way that you want.
05:02 For right now, at least, I'm just going to mix it up a little bit, going to plug these in place.
05:06 Now, they don't stay very well in place.
05:08 You kind of have to twist them a little bit to assist them into the hole.
05:11 We're going to do that exactly the same on the other side here as well.
05:15 Because, again, like, these aren't permanently there,
05:17 you can decide later on if you really wanted to just to remove these.
05:20 By having these, by the way, down below, they usually get a little bit more closer in quarters,
05:24 plotting and scheming with his tiny little claws.
05:27 If you wanted to, though, again, you could have them on the top.
05:30 I think, honestly, I would prefer-- I think now that I look at these,
05:32 I probably will end up just flipping these around when it comes to wrapping up these reviews.
05:36 But, again, we're just going to plug it in for place right now.
05:39 Yeah, I think I prefer it the other way around myself.
05:42 What I will, though, do is I'm going to remove these anyways.
05:44 For all the work and all the hassle, I just end up plugging these on the back.
05:48 I'm just going to remove them anyways,
05:49 just because I think it's a lot easier to get to the figure's articulation.
05:52 So, plugging, unplugging all four of these and putting these off to the side.
05:55 Getting a closer look now at Brainiac.
05:57 You know, again, like while you may not--
05:59 If you don't like Injustice 2, right away this guy could be a deal breaker for you.
06:04 I think there's, again, enough there that I recognize the character.
06:07 I maybe don't recognize as much of him here,
06:09 but I certainly recognize him when it comes to the head.
06:11 The notable spots that he has on the top of his head,
06:14 these little disks and orbs of light,
06:16 definitely does make him look a lot more like Brainiac.
06:19 The green skin also lends a lot to the idea of this character being a green skin character.
06:23 If you prefer, for example, the Justice League Brainiac,
06:26 I know there's certainly been different designs of the character.
06:29 I was always a big fan, really, of the Super Powers Brainiac,
06:32 which basically just had him as a big robotic monstrosity.
06:35 I hope down the road we are going to be getting ourselves other variations of Brainiac,
06:38 because I hate to really think that this is going to be my go-to.
06:41 It's my go-to for right now, at least,
06:43 because now I can actually have a Brainiac on my shelf.
06:45 But I think that if long-term we got ourselves a better Brainiac in the pipeline,
06:48 like a more classic look to Brainiac,
06:50 I definitely think I might end up retiring this figure.
06:52 I mean, he is good for what he is.
06:54 I think, though, one thing I really have as a problem with the figure,
06:57 is while I do think that there's a fairly good amount of paint that's happening here on the top,
07:02 where, again, he's got the little circular disks there of the pink,
07:06 he's got some decent paint there on his overall face.
07:09 I feel like that's the part that kind of stops right there.
07:12 Everything else that's kind of down below there,
07:14 they've relied really on just the grey plastic alone.
07:16 The grey plastic, to be fair, gives us a nicely sculpted-looking Brainiac body.
07:21 But I feel like there are a few little elements to him.
07:23 Like, if I was to, say, bring back in the card as a reference point...
07:26 I just dropped the display stand.
07:28 If I bring back in the card for a referencing point,
07:30 see these little light sources that he has actually on the body?
07:34 They look to me like they're connected.
07:36 So, again, like looking at the two...
07:38 Actually, even looking at the two, it looks like the bodies are slightly different from one another.
07:41 This one has, like, a little... see the little light...
07:44 a little string of lights, for example, that kind of connect down from here.
07:48 It's almost as if... yeah, I think what it is.
07:50 It's a flipped image, because this looks to be something that belongs on this side.
07:54 And this part right here would be, of course, belonging on this side.
07:57 But, again, they just flipped the image around.
07:59 If, though, flipping the image around,
08:01 it still means that, unfortunately, this section right here didn't get painted.
08:04 You can kind of see, like, the little lines right there,
08:06 indicating a sculpt that really does belong with a little bit of paint.
08:09 Unfortunately, though, like I said, it didn't get painted.
08:12 The suit itself also seemed to be a little bit visibly darker on the card.
08:15 And, again, it's a lot paler here on the plastic.
08:17 Like, the sculpting looks good,
08:19 but I just feel like it really needed a little bit of a wash to bring out some of these details.
08:23 I'm sure customizers out there that probably have already picked up the Brainiac for themselves
08:26 have already taken probably a very thin wash of black paint,
08:30 brushed it across the surface of the plastic,
08:32 and really allowed a lot of the stellar sculpt that they put into the figure in the first place to really pop.
08:37 He does have a little bit of color, of course, other than just the pink.
08:40 He's got this section here on the mid-- kind of the mid-abdomen area
08:43 that goes all the way down the side-- inside thighs-- sections of his thighs.
08:47 But other than that, though, it really doesn't look like there's a whole lot of paint happening on this figure.
08:51 And I really think that that's the one thing that would have drove home this sculpt a lot better
08:55 by just adding the-- just, again, a little bit of a wash of paint.
08:58 A wash of paint can really go a long way when it comes to really finishing up the final--
09:02 fina-- fina-- final touches.
09:04 Having a hard time getting that out.
09:05 The final touches of a figure, just giving a little bit of wash of paint.
09:08 It's really all the figure really needed.
09:10 He has these really large shoulder pads.
09:12 Now, the shoulder pads themselves are actually attached up here
09:15 when we eventually get to the figure's articulation, for example.
09:18 The shoulder pads luckily get out of the way when it comes to his arms.
09:21 But other than that, like, again, it's a nice-looking figure.
09:23 It's just-- it's not my ideal Brainiac, and I hate to be the guy that's sort of set in the past.
09:28 I really would love to get a classic-looking guy-- version of this guy.
09:31 I've-- I just don't want to spend the money, because there is a purple variant of this guy.
09:35 I don't want to spend the money-- shell out the money--
09:38 to pick up a figure that I'm really not loving in the first place.
09:42 Now, when it comes to the figure's articulation,
09:44 this version of Brainiac does have a head that rotates.
09:47 A problem with it, though, is that he doesn't have this high collar in the back of the figure's body.
09:51 So, you can rotate the head, sure, back and forth this way.
09:54 You can move it up and move it down.
09:56 But if your plan is to rotate the robot all the way around,
09:59 it's obviously going to hit the back collar, and you're going to have a little bit more of a problem.
10:02 It's going to rub against the bottom of his chin,
10:04 and may even scrape the chin if you're not too careful.
10:07 The upper torso of Brainiac is on a ball joint,
10:10 although it doesn't seem to move too freely for the rest of the abdomen.
10:13 I mean, the abdomen moves fine. There's no problems there at all.
10:17 But this section here really seems hung up, like it can't really do too much with it.
10:21 I already mentioned the shoulders do rotate,
10:23 because, again, like the way that the shoulders are designed,
10:25 it at least allows the arms to rotate all the way around.
10:28 But, again, you just don't want to keep doing that.
10:30 Don't keep tempting lady luck,
10:32 because eventually you'll probably clip this and rip these shoulders right off.
10:35 Easily, these arms can come out at 90 degrees, so there's no problems there.
10:38 The figure has a bicep swivel, double hinge on the elbow,
10:41 and the hands do also rotate all the way around.
10:43 I didn't mention this earlier, because we were too busy tied up with these tentacles.
10:47 I also mentioned that the figure has no alternate hands.
10:49 So, he has kind of like one gripping hand, like a power-hungry hand,
10:53 and then he also has a closed fist.
10:55 But there's no other available options with Brainiac.
10:57 If you look to pop these off and swap them out for something else.
11:01 The figure has, for leg swivels at least, or leg hinges,
11:04 he has ratcheted joints, so you can bring those legs out at 90 degrees,
11:07 or a little less than 90 degrees.
11:08 You can take as well the legs and move forward, move them back.
11:11 The swivel at the top of the thigh,
11:13 the double hinge once again on the knee,
11:15 and articulation here only on the ankle,
11:17 back and forth, and back and forth this way as well.
11:20 The figure also has toe articulation.
11:22 I mean, whether you decide to display him any sort of crouching pose.
11:25 You know, again, like, the thing about Brainiac here is,
11:29 like, I really like the characters,
11:31 and I kind of feel that same way when it comes to characters like Joker.
11:33 Whether they have been hit or misses when it comes to the actual figure releases,
11:37 I like the character enough that I still venture out to pick up a newer one.
11:41 The problem with Brainiac though,
11:42 it's not really a lot of other Brainiacs to choose from.
11:45 Until eventually we will get maybe,
11:46 I'm only hoping that McFarlane decides that they want to do more
11:49 when it comes to Brainiac characters.
11:51 For one, we have right now for Injustice,
11:53 I mean, again, to compare it next to the card,
11:56 a mirror flip to the card,
11:57 it is lacking maybe some of the paint applications
12:00 that would have really allowed the sculpt to pop a lot better than what it does.
12:03 But for it is right now, as it is right now,
12:05 he's going to be my stand-in Brainiac,
12:07 with the hopes that down the road we may get a better one.
12:10 I know really when it comes to my own reviews,
12:12 it's very subjective, of course.
12:14 My personal opinions sort of then reflect onto whatever I'm looking at,
12:17 and just because I'm not a big fan of Injustice 2,
12:19 might have then something to do with the fact
12:21 I'm not really loving this figure as much as I am.
12:23 Say, for example, I was to bring in somebody right now
12:25 that really loves Injustice 2,
12:27 and I was to ask him, "Hey, you like the game,
12:28 what do you think of the figure?"
12:29 They might very well say, "It's a really cool looking Brainiac."
12:32 And I might agree with them from that standpoint.
12:34 From a sculpt standpoint, it's a really neat looking Brainiac.
12:37 And again, at least with the head, there's enough there.
12:39 If he had a completely redesigned head altogether,
12:42 there really wouldn't be enough there
12:43 that I would be able to pinpoint anything that would look
12:46 or resemble like the original vintage Brainiac.
12:48 But with at least the head being what it is,
12:50 I mean, for the sculpting of what it is,
12:52 it's a good looking figure.
12:53 It just, if anything, if I could even offer up criticism
12:56 when it comes to a figure standpoint,
12:58 and moving even just the design elements to the side,
13:00 from a figure element, from a figure standpoint,
13:03 it really only just needed a little bit of extra love,
13:06 a little bit of extra paint, a little bit of extra detailing,
13:08 to really allow some of those finer features on the figure
13:12 to pop a lot better than what they are.
13:14 As it is right now, not a bad looking Brainiac.
13:16 But I can only again hope that down the road,
13:18 old person talking by the way,
13:20 I can only hope that maybe we might get other iterations
13:23 of Brainiac, one that's a little bit more classic,
13:25 or one that, the way he looks certainly in the comics.
13:28 What do you guys think of the figure?
13:29 Let me know down below in the comment section.
13:31 And was I an old man talking?
13:33 Do you think that you like the look of Brainiac
13:35 from the Injustice 2 games?
13:36 Or maybe even a better question to ask you,
13:38 the viewing audience.
13:39 What do you guys think of Injustice 2?
13:40 Do you like the look of the suits in the game?
13:42 Or do you think that they're overly complicated
13:44 for no reasons whatsoever?
13:46 I'm putting up my hand for the second.
13:48 If you guys in the meantime did enjoy this video,
13:50 I want to hit with a like.
13:51 If you guys are loving the content you guys are seeing,
13:53 and would like to stick around for more,
13:55 if you haven't already done so,
13:56 make sure you hit that subscribe button down below,
13:58 and as well, that you're also moving over
14:00 to the bell notification.
14:01 I know it really, it's a two-step process.
14:03 It's an unnecessary two-step process.
14:05 If you're really only going to come to conquer the world
14:07 like Brainiac, you don't really want to have to then
14:09 stop and ring a bell.
14:10 I mean, turning the bell notification is really
14:12 a secondary process, but it does help at least
14:15 to ensure that when I'm putting up new content,
14:17 you guys are the ones that are being able to see it
14:19 as it's going live.
14:21 As always, guys, there's definitely going to be
14:22 a lot more videos coming your way.
14:23 We are wrapping up things right now,
14:24 at least for Injustice 2 territory.
14:26 We are still going to be covering quite a lot of territory
14:28 when it comes to DC Multiverse,
14:30 so make sure you're coming back on a regular basis.
14:32 As always, guys, thanks for watching.
14:34 See you guys next time.
