00:00 I have a feeling I think we should be checking Santa's bag for body parts.
00:03 Here's your Christmas spot on the McFarlane toys Twisted X-mas Santa Claus.
00:10 McFarlane Monsters action figure series 5 Twisted X-mas Santa Claus figure never
00:28 fails to bring the terror to even the sweetest of subjects.
00:32 And here the special touch is given to the happiest of holidays, Christmas.
00:36 Here old Saint Nick as he's never been seen wearing a gas mask and gloves inspired by
00:40 Freddy Krueger.
00:41 Who knows what horrible gifts he'll be bringing the good little boys and girls this holiday
00:45 season.
00:46 Now with the festive season in full swing I thought instead of going back and looking
00:49 at the ghosts of Christmas past we would look at the figures of Christmas past.
00:53 Specifically from 2007 when we got the Twisted X-mas figures from the folks over at McFarlane
00:58 toys.
00:59 I thought this time around we'd be unpacking these again and having a look at the entire
01:03 wave.
01:04 Starting off first of course with Saint Nick himself.
01:06 We're gonna go ahead and grab the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands and then
01:09 we'll talk a little bit about the accessories that he has.
01:12 Saint Nicholas or Santa Claus if you will stands five and a half inches in height or
01:16 the figure is gonna be 14 centimeters tall.
01:21 As for Santa Claus's accessories he's actually currently wearing them right now.
01:24 The figure comes in clue with a display stand you'll probably already see attached to the
01:28 bums of his feet.
01:29 He also comes in clue with a gas mask that is also attached to his beard and of course
01:32 he comes with a famous Santa Claus hat as well.
01:35 Picking the figure up first thing I will say is when you're picking this figure up for
01:39 yourself picking up online that is you want to make sure that if you're buying this guy
01:43 loose that you do also get yourself the display stand.
01:46 The display stand does come rather in handy because Santa Claus is quite top-heavy.
01:51 You can see he takes a tumble unlike a weeble that they can wibble and wobble and never
01:55 fall down.
01:56 Santa Claus though will take a tumble without really the included display stand.
02:00 As I put Santa down here for a second the actual display stand you'll see has a snowy
02:05 terrain.
02:06 I really always like the way that he's painted these.
02:08 It sort of has again like that retro look to it.
02:10 The bottom of it as you can see is cast in more of a frosted ice blue but then they've
02:14 dusted the top very delicately with a nice single coat of paint.
02:19 Maybe there may even be two coats of paint.
02:20 You can also see as well there's some jingle bells cast off to the side.
02:23 There's also a few little scattered rocks there as well and notably there's also these
02:27 two pegs.
02:28 Those will plug into obviously the bottoms of Santa Claus's feet.
02:31 We're going to put the stand to the side for right now at least.
02:34 Taking Santa back up and getting a closer look at the figure.
02:38 This is a line of figures that don't always come out to my collection until Christmas
02:41 time and every single year since the time I actually did the first review of these,
02:46 these guys always end up going out.
02:48 Maybe not on the mantle because apparently the rest of the family doesn't like the idea
02:50 of having horror holiday characters all out but these usually end up going in my office.
02:56 Santa Claus I thought would be the best one to be looking at first.
02:59 A roly poly little fellow.
03:01 You can see he is wearing first of all a gas mask that is attached to his beard.
03:05 So when you do want to remove the gas mask as this is one piece, you're going to actually
03:09 ultimately be taking the beard off as well and there's a very nice festive surprise
03:12 underneath.
03:13 Hopefully not a surprise you're not going to like.
03:15 The figure does also have a hat that's something that also can be removed.
03:19 Let's go ahead and take the hat off right now.
03:22 I've noticed with the time that I've had these figures that they've gotten a little bit gummy.
03:26 That usually is the side effect with plastic over time that sometimes they do get a little
03:29 bit more.
03:30 I mean not sticky necessarily but they feel like they're a little bit more tacky.
03:36 On the inside of the hat for some reason it does say A. I don't know why it says necessarily
03:40 A but that literally just attaches on to Santa's hat head.
03:44 Now when you are attaching it though you'll see there on the back of the hat there's a
03:47 little lip of plastic.
03:48 I guess that's supposed to be the back of his hair.
03:50 You have to kind of tuck it in between his collar and essentially his head.
03:54 So see this little lip of plastic right here or the little opening here?
03:56 You can basically take the hat and you push the hat down and that kind of does a good
04:00 job in fact of actually holding everything in place.
04:03 It survives more easily the blizzard test where the hat's not going to be going anywhere.
04:08 Before we actually talk a little bit about the reveal because of course we're going to
04:11 be yanking off Santa Claus face in a moment, I did also want to draw your attention to
04:14 the very long claws that he has.
04:17 Buying this guy loose online sometimes these bladed claws actually end up being broken
04:22 because if you look at them the nature of the plastic is it doesn't have a lot of give
04:27 so it will be something that would be potentially breakable.
04:30 When I do store these guys away I'm always very careful because of course Santa Claus
04:33 above all the other, actually really all the figures from the Twisted X-Mes have something
04:36 that could be potentially broken.
04:39 Santa Claus has just happened to be the Freddy Krueger claws that he has.
04:42 I love the way that the claws have been sculpted.
04:44 They're located nicely here in a gunmetal gray and then they've also got this additional,
04:48 I don't know if I would best describe it as kind of a copperish gold, but he has these
04:52 springs attached to each of the claws to kind of his mid knuckle area and then he's also
04:57 got a continuation of that gold carried all the way off to his these spiked bracelets
05:02 that he has around his forearms.
05:04 They're really cool looking hands.
05:06 They actually are opposable too.
05:07 You can rotate them around.
05:09 These figures of course being by the nature and the time frame that they were released
05:12 by McFarlane Toys, they don't have the most articulation.
05:16 In fact, excuse me, in fact when we do look at the figures articulation you might even
05:21 be able to count on one hand how many points of movement this figure does actually have.
05:26 Of course he does have the reveal so we're going to go ahead and take the hat off right
05:29 now.
05:31 The front of the face of course.
05:32 You could easily just have the figure displayed really without his hat.
05:35 On the top you can see there's a little band-aid kind of keeping the cracks together.
05:39 I think Santa has more than worries than just cracks alone but he does also have again like
05:43 that beard with the gas mask.
05:44 I love the way they've actually painted the sections of his eyes kind of in a more off
05:48 sickly green.
05:50 The beard down below here I'm guessing was probably molded in black plastic and then
05:53 like the snow that they've dusted on the display stand they would have probably painted a coat
05:58 of white paint over top of it so you can see like the recessed sections of the black underneath
06:02 it.
06:03 To take off his mask is just a case of literally just pulling it off.
06:06 If you look on the inside of the mask actually one thing I did say earlier was black but
06:11 looking at it's clearly a more clear plastic.
06:13 They probably would have painted this in black then painted in white over top of it.
06:17 But if you look to the back there is a section right here a little peg and that peg actually
06:21 sits of all places inside of his nose and basically that's where you're going to be
06:25 plugging the mask back in place.
06:27 Once the mask is removed you can kind of see the full reveal of Santa Claus.
06:31 I don't know if he's decayed he's been dead this whole time and maybe it's just the Christmas
06:35 magic alone that's keeping this guy going but he is a decayed looking Christmas character
06:39 really.
06:40 I mean Santa Claus is the most iconic of characters.
06:43 I think Santa Claus though has seen better days.
06:45 I love the way they've actually painted the sections of his eyes here where one eye is
06:49 a little beady bit of red and then the other eye looks like just a decayed mummified eye.
06:55 There's no articulation here.
06:56 I would have loved if they could have had a way to maybe have the jaw for example be
06:59 something that could open and close but sadly that's not the case.
07:03 One little touch of detail I also really like is if you look at the front of his very dirty
07:06 looking shirt.
07:07 This looks like a shirt that hasn't been cleaned in a while.
07:10 Sleigh bells ring.
07:11 Are you listening?
07:12 I'm certainly listening.
07:14 I can't imagine how many years of sweat have settled on this shirt but it looks definitely
07:18 very grimy and filthy.
07:20 Maybe the elves maybe that's not one of their responsibilities.
07:23 They have very poignantly said to Santa "listen Santa we'll make your toys but there's no
07:27 way we're doing your laundry" and I don't blame them either.
07:30 The coloring of his jacket is actually really quite good.
07:33 I mean you've got this very bright vibrant red that they've done.
07:36 Nice little darker colors of also more crimson red that they've added in there to the tops
07:40 of the jacket, the inside interior of his jacket there as well and a nice furry trim
07:44 down below.
07:45 Some of the paint is a little on the messier side but again for being a 2007 figure I can
07:49 excuse that.
07:50 The lower half of his body of course has a belt that's really holding a lot, has to hold
07:55 a lot back.
07:56 I mean it has one of the notches already being used.
07:58 I mean is that the first notch?
08:00 I don't think he can actually make it unless he puts another couple of holes in there.
08:04 Santa's probably gonna have to watch eating that Christmas pudding and then of course
08:07 he does also have the big very long kind of elf like shoes.
08:11 Peggles very obviously are on the bottom but very obviously are important when it comes
08:14 to this figure because without that Santa's gonna take a tumble.
08:18 Now for the figure's articulation it's probably best in fact I should left all this all this
08:22 stuff off.
08:23 The figure doesn't have any head articulation so I guess I really could have just easily
08:26 left the head on.
08:28 Like I said the mouth doesn't open and close.
08:29 Missed opportunity I feel.
08:31 Now the arms do rotate back and forth.
08:34 Everything on this figure is extremely tight.
08:36 So you're basically gonna only have swivel in the arms for example and then you're also
08:40 gonna have swivel in the hands.
08:41 So you can also bring those hands up.
08:43 I mean there's mileage to be made of course for where you're gonna be having these displayed.
08:47 I mean the further the arms up even more of a wobbling issue you're gonna have for Saint
08:51 Nick so you definitely want to make sure you're gonna be using the display stand.
08:55 There is no waist articulation and then he also has articulation here for his ankles
08:59 and that's it.
09:01 So at the end of it you're really only more getting kind of like with the terrain of what
09:04 McFarland was doing back in the day.
09:06 You're getting very detailed essentially stached in figures that only have a few little additional
09:11 points of articulation.
09:13 Santa Claus though man it's a charming looking figure.
09:16 I don't have it like I said already or mentioned early I don't have this figure displayed on
09:20 the shelf all the time.
09:22 This is one of those treats that I always kind of reserve near to the beginning of the
09:25 year.
09:26 So actually at the time that I'm gonna be doing these reviews is at the time that I'm
09:29 gonna be putting these guys out.
09:30 They come out for Christmas and then into the new year they get stored away carefully
09:35 again.
09:36 Santa Claus again the most carefully you really want to worry about those blades that he has
09:39 on the ends of his fingers but man what a fun looking figure.
09:42 If you get the chance pick this guy up.
09:45 Getting him online in a sealed condition can be quite expensive.
09:48 He goes for some crazy stupid money.
09:50 In fact I think all of them go for crazy stupid money.
09:52 Mrs. Claus that we will also be looking at I think is the craziest stupidest money.
09:57 I'm gonna stop saying that.
09:59 If you guys manage to find this guy loose you probably could get this guy I would imagine
10:02 for probably maybe $40 or $50 and even then that's a lot of money.
10:06 But make sure though if you are getting this guy and you are getting him loose that all
10:09 the things are on Santa Claus.
10:11 Everything is included especially the display stand and dare I say you don't want to have
10:15 any one of Santa's claws broken when you end up having this guy shipped to you.
10:21 Here in final looks we've got of course the twisted Xmas Santa Claus.
10:25 I've got the figure currently displayed with the Santa hat.
10:27 You don't necessarily need the beard and the gas mask to have the hat included.
10:31 The hat again just tucks into the back of his collar in between his head and the back
10:35 of the jacket.
10:36 So if you didn't want to have the figure displayed without the beard, I prefer the
10:39 beard myself, you can go that route.
10:41 It does though draw one more thing to the attention of Santa's face.
10:44 It's still I wish that the figure had jaw articulation.
10:47 I think at 2007 the standards for figure articulation probably didn't apply for jaw articulation.
10:54 I still wish that the figure could have had the means to move his jaw up and down.
10:58 The figure only has very limited articulation in his shoulders, in his wrists or in his
11:02 forearms and in his two tiny little elf feet.
11:06 Make sure of course you always have this figure displayed with the included display stand
11:10 because Santa is way too top heavy and way too roly poly that he might in fact roly poly
11:16 himself right off the shelf and likely break any one of his claws that are attached onto
11:20 the ends of the hands.
11:21 The figure while having lacking articulation more than makes up for it with a pretty cool
11:25 creepy Christmas vibe to him.
11:28 Not only the way he's been sculpted but the way he's been painted as well.
11:31 I did initially get this entire set on eBay.
11:33 I mean this is the third time I think I'm looking at these figures.
11:37 So this would have been way well like 20 plus years ago.
11:40 I got the entire set I think for about $100.
11:43 Good luck finding even one of these still sealed in clamshell with shipping and everything
11:48 for about $100 a piece.
11:50 I think Mrs. Claus the last time I looked, her still sealed in the clamshell case.
11:54 She probably was still about I want to say like $75 or $80 and that's $85 US.
12:00 So if converted that to Canadian, that's one Christmas present I wouldn't want to have
12:04 to buy again.
12:05 But what do you guys think of Twisted Xmas Santa Claus?
12:08 Do you have currently this figure in your collection or is this a figure line that you
12:12 missed your chance to get and would love to get again?

12:34 That calendar is from 2018.
