Thursday afternoon will see a northerly flow across the UK. This will bring cloudy and showery conditions for most pats of the country, especially over the north and southwest, this accompanied with cool temperatures. 00:00 Hello, very good day to you. If you're hoping for something more summery, well it's not
00:04 great news with the autumnal feel continuing for a few days yet. It's because we're still
00:09 on the northern, colder side of the jet stream, and it's quite an active jet at that. As a
00:13 result, the low pressure that was across the UK on Wednesday has now been pushed away towards
00:18 the east. Behind it, we have a cool northerly flow across the UK, and quite a few showers
00:25 with limited bright or sunny spells across the UK.
00:28 Taking a look at the details on Thursday, you can see a largely cloudy picture, but
00:32 I am expecting some sunshine to break through the cloud at times. Plenty of showers around,
00:36 particularly across northern parts of Scotland, but also for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
00:41 Some of these could be hefty, perhaps the odd rumble of thunder too.
00:45 Temperatures are going to be a little disappointing for the time of year. We may just about scrape
00:48 to around 23 or 24 Celsius in the south east, but when you factor in the blustery winds,
00:54 albeit lighter than on Wednesday, it is going to feel relatively cool, particularly for
00:58 August. As we go through the end of the day on Thursday,
01:01 some further showers for many places, but they are gradually going to die out, except
01:05 across parts of Scotland and into north east England where we're going to see some heavy
01:09 downpours as we go through the early hours of Friday morning. Watch out, there could
01:13 be a little bit of surface water issues as we go through the early hours. Because of
01:18 the largely cloudy skies and the breezy conditions, temperatures aren't going to drop much, most
01:22 places staying in the mid teens Celsius. So first thing on Friday, watch out for some
01:27 heavy rain across parts of north east England, and that showery rain is then going to feed
01:31 its way further southwards across parts of Yorkshire and into east Anglia as we go through
01:35 the day. There's the risk of some hail and some thunder here, along with some heavy downpours
01:40 of rain. Elsewhere, there will be a few showers pushing
01:42 in on that north northwesterly wind, so particularly around northern parts of Scotland and feeding
01:46 into Irish sea coastal areas as well. But across more western parts of England and Wales,
01:51 we should see some decent dry, bright weather for many of us. Temperatures are maybe going
01:55 to be down a degree compared to Thursday, but with lighter winds for most, particularly
02:00 in the east, it is going to perhaps feel a little bit warmer for some, particularly if
02:04 you get any sunshine away from those heavy downpours. In the southwest though, the winds
02:09 are going to stay quite strong. That's because of this weather system that's going to push
02:12 its way in from the west later on. We're going to see some heavy rain arriving as we go through
02:17 Friday evening and strengthening winds too, starting off across Northern Ireland and then
02:22 it's going to push across the rest of the UK. If we take a closer look at that, you
02:26 can see this deep low, unseasonably deep for the time of year, pushing its way eastwards
02:31 across the country. A bit of uncertainty as to the exact track this low is going to take,
02:35 but it does look like Saturday for many, particularly across England and Wales, is going to be a
02:40 wet and windy day. We do have some warnings in force.
02:43 That will clear away as we go into Sunday. So Sunday does look a little bit drier, but
02:46 still relatively unsettled with some brisk winds and showers to watch out for. There's
02:51 more information on the forecast for the weekend on the 10 day trend that's on YouTube and
02:55 was issued yesterday. So catch Alex with that. And for more information, you can always check
02:59 out our social media channels. I'll see you later.
