The most obvious example of William Branham’s use of differing stage personas can be found in his pamphlet entitled “I Was Not Disobedient to the Heavenly Vision”. In this tract that was shared among followers of his pre-1947 stage persona, William Branham describes how God allegedly “commissioned” him to heal the sick by a “vision” in March, 1945.
In the tract, William Branham admits to having previous versions of a stage persona and claimed that he lost his “power to heal” for a period of five years, which is approximately 1940. He claimed that God had given him a “double portion of the power to heal”. (Yes, that’s correct, not that GOD would heal, but that HE, William Branham, would have the power to heal.
In later versions of his stage persona, the ones that he would be remembered by, William Branham claimed that it was not himself that had the power to heal, but God. And this divine connection allegedly came by an angelic visitation on May 7, 1946, which he claimed to be the same exact day that Israel became a nation. When he changed to this version of the stage persona, however, William Branham did not confirm the date of the Independence of Israel. The nation of Israel was not formed until the year 1948.
