Police are keeping sensitive information on the killing of attorney and former police officer Taradath Singh close to their chest after he was gunned down yesterday evening while leaving a gym in Charlieville.

However, sources told TV6 News that Singh may have been targeted due to his present job as an attorney.

Mark Bassant has this report.

00:00The brazen killing of attorney Taradath Singh moments after he left the gym along Astra Avenue in Charlieville on Tuesday
00:07evening has stunned the legal fraternity and triggered an intensive police manhunt for those responsible.
00:13Today, DCP Suzette Martin of operations would not commit to specific answers to several questions posed to her by the
00:20media during the TTPS briefing concerning attorney Singh. Instead, she chose to generalize in her responses.
00:26The first 24 to 48 hours of our investigation is a critical part where we obtain sensitive information, we check
00:36the intelligence. So at this time, I would not comment on what happened, but what I would say is that
00:44the officers are on the ground and as soon as we can share information with the public, we will do
00:50so.
00:50Exactly one month ago, Singh had been targeted by unknown assailants while at his Kanupia home as they opened fire
00:56while he sat in his BMW.
00:58Sources close to that investigation told TV6 News that Singh, a former police officer, had his licensed firearm in the
01:04backseat of the vehicle when he was attacked the first time.
01:08Sources further informed TV6 News that following the first attack, Singh made a report and had been told by investigators
01:14to stagger his movements and lay off visiting the gym until things cooled down.
01:19Sources say that Singh had revealed to investigators that he had suspected who had attempted to shoot him in the
01:25first instance.
01:27Investigators say there are likely two major motives for the killing, but they are also exploring other theories in the
01:32interim.
01:33One of the strongest motives police say is connected to a particular case he had been working on in which
01:38he had been repeatedly asking for fees owed to him by a notorious criminal.
01:43Investigations are continuing.
