Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander says the government fully supports the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service in its crime-fighting efforts.

He was responding to news of police officers fatally shooting multiple suspects during an operation in Cunupia earlier today.

The Minister was speaking at a community outreach event at his Tunapuna constituency office.

00:10Speaking to reporters at a hairdressing program hosted at his Tunapuna constituency office, the minister said he's been saying for
00:18some time that he fully supports the work of the TTPS.
00:21We would have engaged the police, the commissioner of police, the DCP, Ms. Martin, ACP, Mr. Smith. We would have
00:30engaged them. And we told them, I told them, I said, the government of the day is in full support
00:39of your efforts in this fight, especially where? In Central Division, this home invasion taking place.
00:45I told them, I said, listen, we are prepared to support you. Once you use your guidance by your use
00:55of force policy, when taking your actions, the government, the ministry will support your efforts.
01:03Commenting on the death of four suspects following home invasions in the Canupia area on Saturday, Minister Alexander said no
01:11one can compensate victims for the trauma they endure when their homes are invaded.
01:17It's why he supports the TTPS doing whatever it takes to capture those responsible.
01:23Bringing those persons, whether by ways of the mortuary, the forensic science center, or an identification parade. And that is
01:35the reality of things. Only this weekend when someone came again and you want to extort persons into Tunapuna.

01:53Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Alistair Guevara commended the team of officers involved in Saturday's response.
02:01Firstly, I would like to extend condolences to the families of the deceased individuals as any loss of life is
02:08regrettable.
02:08And I recognize the pain that accompanies it. At the same time, I want to commend the officers of the
02:15home invasion team, the anti-extortion unit, the Central Division and our partners in the TTDF for their swift, coordinated
02:22and disciplined response.
02:24Their actions brought an immediate end to a violent home invasion that left a 70-year-old citizen traumatized in
02:32his own home.
02:33He urged citizens to be vigilant and share whatever information they have with the police.
02:40I continue to urge the public to report suspicious activity, cooperate with investigators, and trust that the Trader and Tobago
02:48Police Service will respond with urgency and professionalism.
