00:01Hello, very good morning to you. Storm Austin has been impacting southern parts of the UK over the last few
00:06hours and that continues really through this morning's rush hour. Here is where Storm Austin is this morning running its
00:12way eastwards across the southern coastal parts of England. Some strong onshore southerly winds initially but the strongest winds are
00:18on the backside. These bright pink colours here indicating 60, 70 mile an hour winds across parts of southwest England,
00:24west Wales, potentially in excess of 80 miles an hour for the west of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly
00:28first thing this morning.
00:29So do take care on the roads during the morning rush. The strongest winds transferring east. So inland we'll see
00:34gusts 40 to 50 miles an hour through the course of today. And to that effect we do have a
00:38number of weather warnings in force. This yellow warning here covers the south coast, parts of southwest England, west and
00:45south Wales for significant impacts. The most likely area to see the biggest impacts are across the far southwest. So
00:51Cornwall just fringing into Devon. Also the Isles of Scilly could see some notable impacts, especially first thing this morning.
00:56And then some moderate impacts likely across parts of the Midlands, North Wales, East Anglia and the southeast. So check
01:02our web and app for more information on the different impact levels these warnings relate to as we go through
01:07the course of today and Storm Austin continues to make its presence felt.
01:11The bigger picture through today, well we've got plenty of rain around this band of rain working its way across
01:15northern England into southern Scotland. Plenty of showery bursts of rain rotating around our area of low pressure too.
01:21Some of this quite lively with perhaps a rumble of thunder. In between though, a little bit of brightness, maybe
01:25parts of northern eastern England for a time.
01:27And this more persistent rain really developing across eastern and southeast Scotland through the afternoon with some snow potentially down
01:33to about 700 metres or so.
01:35But later on a bit of brightness coming out as things clear up. So northern Ireland, southwest Wales, southwest England,
01:40a little bit of brightness and sunshine developing for Friday afternoon.
01:44Still fairly blustery here, but the winds will ease down. And just a few scattered showers here to end the
01:49day.
01:49Now temperature wise, I mean, these are the sorts of values we're looking at. So typically sort of 9 to
01:5412 degrees across Scotland.
01:55Further south we might get to 13, 14 degrees. But obviously factor in the wind and rain.
01:59And it's not going to be feeling particularly pleasant if you're out and about through the course of today.
02:03So a pretty chilly feeling day given all the wind and rain around.
02:07And that rain continues to build up actually across parts of eastern and southeast Scotland.
02:11So we've also got a yellow warning out here for rain, 20 to 40 millimetres quite widely, perhaps 60 to
02:1680 millimetres.
02:18More especially focused across southeast Scotland, but potentially also into parts of Northumberland as well.
02:23So it's here we could see some surface water issues today and possibly also some river impacts as we go
02:28into the beginning of the weekend,
02:30as well as that water continues to work its way through the watercourses.
02:33Through the evening and overnight, further rain continues into eastern Scotland, also parts of England and Wales.
02:38But gradually with time it pulls away.
02:41It's still fairly windy down the North Sea coast with the winds here also easing.
02:44And then we get a little ridge of high pressure coming in from the west.
02:46So skies will clear for a time, but it won't last very long.
02:49A thick shield of high cloud coming in ahead of our next weather fronts,
02:53which will eventually bring some rain, as you can see, into Northern Ireland later tonight.
02:57So there might just be a chance of a little bit of mist around where we've got all that moisture
03:00on the ground,
03:01where the winds ease just for a time during the overnight period.
03:04And it will be a cool night, not as cold as last night, I think, across Scotland, close to freezing.
03:09Elsewhere we're looking at sort of mid-single figures for the overnight low.
03:13So going into the weekend, well, we say goodbye to Storm Austin as that slowly weakens near Denmark.
03:18Very transient, rich of high pressure.
03:20But the next named system coming in, this is Storm Bulo, again named by the Met Office,
03:25bringing plenty of wind and rain across the country through Saturday.
03:28And then it's really on the southern flank later Saturday and overnight to Sunday
03:31where the strongest winds will arrive, this time affecting more northern parts of the UK.
03:36But a quiet start to your weekend in the east.
03:38Some hazy sunshine first thing in the morning off for a fresh start.
03:41But cloud will thicken and rain already in the west.
03:43We'll start to make more progress further east as we go through the course of tomorrow.
03:48And some of this becoming really quite persistent on these western hills,
03:51driven along by strengthening southerly winds through the course of the afternoon.
03:54So a very autumnal feel to things.
03:56Later in the day, a little bit of brightness for Northern Ireland, maybe western Scotland,
04:00but plenty of blustery showers here.
04:01So although it does brighten up, it's still very unsettled really right the way through the day.
04:05And this is when the strongest winds will arrive later in the afternoon and more especially into the evening.
04:10Now technically it is a mild air mass in place.
04:12So temperatures between 12 and 16 degrees.
04:14But obviously once again, factor in the wind and rain,
04:16and probably not feeling all that mild if you are out and about exposed to the weather elements
04:21through the course of Saturday.
04:24And then the winds continue to pick up further as we go through Saturday evening,
04:27all tied into Storm Bulo.
04:29But again, as I say, the focus for the strongest winds will be in the north.
04:33So just having a look at some of these wind gusts then through Saturday evening,
04:36you can see quite widely 55 to 65 miles now.
04:38But parts of western Scotland could see 70 to 80, maybe a touch stronger for a time.
04:43And then that risk transfers more to northern and perhaps even northeast Scotland,
04:47getting some quite strong winds through the course of Sunday
04:50before all of that starts to clear away and ease into the North Sea later in the day on Sunday.
04:55So it's quite a long duration of strong winds across the northern half of the country
04:59later Saturday overnight and on into Sunday.
05:02This is the current warnings in falls.
05:04We've got one for Northern Ireland and one covering all of Scotland
05:06and the far north of England, bar Shetland at the moment.
05:10And these come into fall sets at 6pm on Saturday and carry on into Sunday.
05:14But these may be updated as we go through the course of this morning.
05:17So it's definitely worth checking the latest details on our websites and our app.
05:21And no doubt there'll be more discussion on Storm Bulo in Weather Studio Live,
05:26which is back this lunchtime at 12.15 on Facebook and YouTube.
