00:00Hello there, good afternoon. A wet and windy afternoon on offer for many of us and it won't stop there
00:05with Storm Austin approaching later tomorrow.
00:08Multiple Met Office warnings in force, including an amber warning for wind across parts of the southwest.
00:14More on that later. For the time being, the wet and windy conditions continue.
00:18Some of this rain will be quite heavy at times.
00:21We've got this band of rain moving from northwest Scotland all the way through to northwest England, northern Wales, central
00:27England and down to the southeast.
00:29Turning quite blustery amongst this rain as well.
00:31Also quite a wet afternoon towards the far north and northeast of Scotland.
00:35Starting to turn a little clearer across northern Ireland, southern Wales and southwest England.
00:41There's some heavy showers moving through here.
00:44Some of these could bring some hail, possibly some thunder.
00:47Often quite windy amongst any heavy rain and particularly across parts of the southwest and any southern coasts.
00:53It could turn quite blustery for a time.
00:55All of this is going to add on to the chill for the day.
00:58Temperature's not really increasing much at all.
01:00Widely between 10 to 13 degrees Celsius for much of the UK.
01:05Then to finish off the day, it's still going to be quite wet for some.
01:08But this area of rain will eventually clear as it pushes its way northeastwards.
01:12Still a chance of some heavy bands of rain here.
01:15A second area of rain will push across Wales, southern and central England.
01:18Pushing into the southeast through the early part of the morning.
01:21This could bring some quite squally winds, some heavy rain overnight.
01:24But most of it will have cleared by the time we reach Thursday morning.
01:28Perhaps a few lingering showers towards southeast England, parts of East Anglia.
01:32Actually, many areas will start to turn that little bit clearer.
01:35Still a few showers around.
01:36But those clearer skies will allow those temperatures to drop.
01:39Many towns and cities pushing down to the mid to the high single figures.
01:43We may even see some frost across parts of Scotland where we see clear skies and lighter winds.
01:50So first thing on Thursday, there will still be some showers around.
01:53Some of these could be quite heavy.
01:54They'll eventually clear away.
01:56Still a little bit blustery for a time towards the far northeast of Scotland where once again rain will slowly
02:01clear here.
02:02There'll still be a few showers by the afternoon.
02:04But actually for many, it's almost the calm before the storm.
02:07It should be mostly dry with some sunny spells.
02:10There'll eventually some rain, some stronger winds just about pushing into Cornwall towards the end of the day.
02:16Temperatures a little better later into the afternoon across parts of the south.
02:20Highs of 15 to 16 degrees Celsius here.
02:22Otherwise, temperatures fairly similar, around 11 to 12 degrees Celsius.
02:26So even where we see the sunshine break through, it's still going to feel on the chilly side.
02:31Now, later into the evening, that's where Storm Austin starts to push through.
02:35This area of low pressure, this storm pushing initially from the southwest,
02:39bringing some heavy bands of rain across parts of England and Wales later into the day.
02:43Some very heavy outbreaks of rain, particularly across southwest England, and also some strong gusty winds.
02:49These winds will continue to strengthen through the course of the evening as Storm Austin progresses its way eastwards.
02:55A chance we could see wind speeds between 60 to 70 miles per hour,
02:59possibly up to 80 miles per hour around any exposed locations towards the southwest.
03:05So continuing to stay rather wet and windy all the way through until Friday.
03:09And this is when we have multiple weather warnings in force.
03:12A rain warning for southern areas of Scotland and multiple wind warnings across parts of the south and southwest,
03:18including an amber warning for much of Devon and Cornwall.
