00:00Hello there, good afternoon. So far autumn has been quiet but now we're starting to see
00:05things ramp up with two named storms on the way for the end of the week and for the start
00:11of the weekend. Initially we have Storm Austin which will move through tonight and be with
00:16us through Friday. Multiple Met Office warnings in force both for wind and also for rain with
00:22regards to this storm. I'm not going to go into too much detail for Storm Austin. There's
00:27quite a lot of content already on our Met Office social media channels and across our
00:31website so do take a look at those to see if Storm Austin is going to affect you. Nevertheless
00:37though it is going to be a very wet and windy day for many of us on Friday. Later Friday
00:43however Storm Austin eventually pushes its way eastwards and we'll see a very slight ridge
00:48of high pressure before the next storm, Storm Bolo, moves through. This is all because we
00:54have a very strong jet stream at the moment. So this is picking up areas of low pressure
00:58in from the Atlantic. They move their way across the jet into what we call the colder side of
01:04the jet and then that in turn brings us some very wet and windy weather. Now the difference
01:09between Storm Austin and Storm Bolo is that Austin pushes initially into the southwest whereas
01:14Bolo will push more towards the northwest as we progress into Saturday. Nevertheless though,
01:21for much of the UK on Saturday there is going to be some wet and some very windy weather.
01:27Now to start off with Saturday, if you're up during the early hours it's slightly the calm
01:32before the storm. Many areas will be dry, quite chilly, quite a lot of cloud around. Things
01:37will soon start to deteriorate from the west though as Storm Bolo pushes towards the northwest
01:42of the UK. Heavy outbreaks of rain pushing their way eastwards through the course of the day.
01:47Many upslope areas and coastal areas of the west will gradually turn quite wet and windy
01:53through the course of the day. And by the afternoon most areas will have seen some rain and some
01:58strong winds. The strongest of the winds mostly towards the northwest. This is where we could
02:03potentially see wind speeds of 60 to 70 miles per hour, perhaps higher in some exposed locations.
02:09But for all is set to be a breezy day. Let's take a look at a bit more detail around
02:14those
02:15winds. So you can see through Saturday morning those winds are really going to strengthen from
02:19the west, particularly around hills and coasts. The strongest winds still likely across Scotland,
02:25Northern Ireland and northern areas of England. This is where we could see those wind speeds of 60,
02:3070 miles per hour, perhaps even more. But you can see across many coastal areas the winds are going to
02:37be particularly gusty. So for all a wet and windy day. And these winds will continue to strengthen
02:43later into Saturday all the way through into Sunday. So even if we start to see the rain ease away
02:49across some southern areas of England and Wales, it's still going to be quite blustery. But notice the
02:54strongest winds often towards the north. So we do have some Met Office warnings issued for later Saturday
03:01running through into Sunday. This covers Northern Ireland, Scotland and also northern areas of England.
03:09So there's the potential to see some impacts as a result of these strong gusts. So we do advise people
03:15to take our advice, which you can see quite widely on the Met Office website. For example, quite strong winds
03:21can create some very high coastal waves. So avoid coasts if possible. And just leave a bit more time if
03:27you're planning on travelling around this weekend, as there's likely to be some travel disruption.
03:32So the weather itself on Sunday, then still very wet and windy across Scotland, northern parts of England.
03:39Still some quite heavy spells of rain, particularly across northern and northeastern areas of Scotland.
03:44That's set to linger through much of the day. Now behind this, there'll be some showers.
03:48The one or two could be heavy with some rumbles of thunder. These will feed into areas of Northern Ireland,
03:54north-west England, perhaps pushing into eastern areas of England as well. Actually, much of Wales
03:58and southern, south-eastern England will probably see a much drier day if you compare it to Saturday.
04:04But it's still going to be very blustery and it's still going to feel rather chilly in those winds as
04:09well.
04:10Temperatures widely between 11 to 14 degrees. But where you find yourself amongst those strong winds,
04:15particularly in the north, that's certainly going to offset those temperatures.
04:20So some very unsettled weather expected over the weekend. Do keep an eye on the Met Office warnings.
04:26There is a chance that these could be tweaked as we get newer forecast model runs through.
04:31And that's not going to be the end of it. We've still got this very strong jet stream affecting us
04:37the early part of the week. And this still will continue to pick up areas of low pressure as we
04:42progress into Monday.
04:43Once again, pushing towards north-western areas. So another spell of some wet and windy weather expected on Monday.
04:51As it stands at the moment, not a named storm, but I wouldn't totally rule it out.
04:55But whether it's named or not, it's likely we're going to continue to see some wet and windy weather through
05:00into the early part of next week.
