00:00its mark. For the time being, we are seeing some heavy rain around, clearing eastern counties of
00:05Scotland through the next few hours, taking the strongest winds with it. Showers drifting in from
00:09the west, but some sunshine coming through, a bit of a chilly start to the day across more northern
00:13areas. And we've seen some rain overnight, heavy bursts at that, and strongest winds across the
00:18south coast. But through the morning again, clearing. This rain has been quite intense
00:24across the far southeast, and notice this showery rain tending to break up as we head through the
00:29first part of the day, as this area of more persistent rain becomes confined through the
00:34morning to Shetland. Showers are drifting in from the west, but they're scattered. We'll see some
00:39sunshine in shelter for Northern Ireland, a few showers just drifting across the southern uplands
00:44as well as Pennines, but many areas seeing dry weather through the afternoon, and also some
00:48sunny spells. Temperature is probably 11 to 16 degrees Celsius, but all eyes are on the southwest.
00:54Here, the winds picking up some strength. Also outbreaks of rain. This is Storm Austin, and
01:00it's really going to push in through this evening and overnight. So despite some clearer skies,
01:06things will change, and the weather will turn lively as well as stormy. We do have an amber
01:12warning for wind across the far southwest of the country, far southwest of England. Expect
01:17highways with gusts along the coastline up to 70 miles an hour in places, perhaps even exceeding
01:2375 across headlands. So that's the amber warning. A broader yellow warning for wind covering South
01:30Wales, central and southern parts of England. This is the centre of the low, but also the cloud and
01:35rain spewing northwards, and we'll see some persistent rain with the risk of some localised flooding
01:40across eastern and southern parts, central parts of Scotland through Friday, and in fact into Friday night
01:46as well, locally 60 to 80 millimetres of rain. So through this evening, watch out if you are travelling.
01:53We'll see those winds really picking up some strength, turning to gales, if not severe gales, across the far
01:57southwest. That rain is heavy and persistent, pushing across Wales, the Midlands, and moving northwards.
02:03Some clearer skies across the northeast of England, central and eastern areas of Scotland, but the rain also
02:07covering much of Northern Ireland and western Scotland into the early hours of Friday morning.
02:12That amber warning then kicks in during the early hours, and that broader warning for wind across
02:18central and southern areas of England and Wales. That's the centre of the low. You can see the spiral,
02:24that real tightness to the centre of that deep depression, as the rain becomes persistent through
02:29the day across northern and central areas. Heavy rain at that, with the winds picking up across the
02:36eastern side of Scotland. So through the afternoon, most places encountering that heavy rain.
02:41Also gales, strong winds, gusty winds. Eventually we'll see a clearance coming in from the west with
02:47some sunshine. That rain warning extends into Saturday across Scotland. And then the weather
02:54remains unsettled through Saturday as well as Sunday. A deep area of low pressure. This is the gust graphic,
03:00representing where the strongest gusts will be as we head through Saturday and into Sunday. Mostly coastal,
03:05but inland as well, we could see really some very strong winds with gales, if not severe gales,
03:11for a time across central and northern areas of Scotland. And remains windy after the rain clears
03:16on Saturday into Sunday. So showers on Sunday, with some quieter weather coming through from the west
03:22later. For more details on the weekend weather, please check out our 10-day trend. This week,
03:28it's with Alex Deacon. See you later.
