00:00Coming up at 822, Daryl Ryder joins us on the show, so we've got to get moving.
00:032-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
00:05We'll get back to the Guardians.
00:06We've got to talk a little bit of Guardians with Daryl as well.
00:09I think he might have done double duty yesterday.
00:11I'm not sure.
00:11Speaking of Guardians, by the way, tonight, now Jake Volnick will have you 7 to 8.
00:15Monday Night Football will start at 8 o'clock here on the fan.
00:18We're your flagship home for Westwood 1 and the NFL.
00:24However, we will cut in after the Guardians game.
00:27So you want live reaction, hopefully after a win and we're getting ready for Game 7,
00:33you'll have Jake Volnick right after the Guardians game.
00:36I don't care.
00:38Is it Kevin Harlan on the call?
00:39Sorry, Kev.
00:41It's going to be this guy.
00:42Or Scott Graham.
00:43It doesn't matter.
00:44It's Jake Volnick.
00:46He's jumping in.
00:47You will have Guardians live reaction right after the Guardians game.
00:51That is a promise from us here at the fan.
00:54Are the bronze sustainable?
00:55For example, I have had – so we opened up the show.
00:59We're going to bring this back later on.
01:00Lyman did not have the type of reaction I thought he would.
01:03And I know yesterday afternoon was a rough afternoon.
01:07And I'll explain more later on.
01:09We'll get back to this because, boy, you had him going this morning.
01:12For a second, I thought you were doing a bit.
01:13You're dead serious.
01:15There were some people who agreed with you and they were like,
01:17hey, Kenny, you know, it's week six of the Browns.
01:21First off, the Guardians series isn't over yet,
01:23so let's not get so down in the mouth about the Gardos.
01:26Guardians, second of all, like, hey, it's a big win.
01:29It is a big win.
01:30We're not making choices here.
01:32We're not doing what the other guy did.
01:33Like, I want them both to win.
01:34I don't have to make a choice.
01:35And if we didn't make a choice, yes,
01:37I'm taking playoff baseball over the regular season.
01:39However, you're 4-2, and there is some naysaying going on.
01:45This is not sustainable.
01:47They're frustrating even.
01:48The Browns are frustrating to outsiders, to outside media,
01:52because it's like, hey, this isn't sustainable.
01:54And I go, why is it not sustainable?
01:57Now, you will say, I know your answer.
01:59Deshaun Watson isn't good enough.
02:01I know what you'll say.
02:02I know your answer.
02:02Your offense isn't good enough yet.
02:04Your offensive line isn't good enough yet.
02:06Your running game is not a very good running game.
02:09I've heard it all.
02:09I've thought it all.
02:11I'm with you on a lot of it.
02:14My answer to you is, watch the league.
02:17Get the all-22.
02:18You don't even have to get the all-22.
02:20If you have, like, the NFL Plus package or anything like that,
02:23you go back and watch the games on regular TV.
02:25They're right there on the replays.
02:27There are 16 teams, half your league right now,
02:30that is averaging less than four yards a carry.
02:33That was a stat that we brought up yesterday during the NFL whip.
02:36Couldn't believe it.
02:37Last year, there were only four or five.
02:40Throughout this season right now,
02:42you've got 16 teams that can't run the football.
02:44You are one of them.
02:46You've got 16 teams that can't do it.
02:48So if you have such low-level football being played,
02:53you know, I hate to say it's like,
02:55hey, everybody else is in the gutter, so we're 4-2.
02:57I don't mean to say it like that, but let's be honest here.
02:59If you have that much low-level football being played or not,
03:02I shouldn't say less than elite-level football being played,
03:05yeah, why can't it be sustainable?
03:08Is anybody here afraid of the Tennessee Titans?
03:11Is anybody afraid?
03:12The Steelers' history in Pittsburgh, yeah,
03:14like I respect these teams that we're playing.
03:17We're not out of the woods,
03:19but I'm not afraid of the New Orleans Saints.
03:21I'm not afraid of the Steelers.
03:22I'm not afraid of the Tennessee Titans.
03:24I think the last chance you had to be afraid of a team for a while
03:29was yesterday against the Ravens and you beat them.
03:31The next chance you get, I think maybe Houston,
03:33I've got to take a look at their schedule,
03:34they might be coming in here pretty hot
03:36by the time they get here in mid-November.
03:38So you got yourself an opportunity here, friends,
03:42to put some wins in there.
03:44You've dealt with the storms.
03:47You dealt with it yesterday.
03:48And then fourth quarter came around.
03:50You ended up winning this football game.
03:52I don't see any reason why they've answered every question I've had.
03:56Their depth, inexperience, the whole deal, they're still 4-2.
03:59Well, it's crazy that the defense was able to keep them in that game.
04:04And I know, we haven't really talked about Lamar Jackson not being there.
04:09We're looking at it as a Baltimore win at home, a huge divisional win.
04:13Obviously, it would have been a lot tougher if Lamar would have played.
04:16But the fact that the defense kept that a one-possession game
04:19for as long as they did, or even when it was 10-0,
04:23the fact that they limited it to that.
04:25I mean, I could have seen a world where we were down 14-0 right away,
04:29and that was it.
04:30Like, that's a big difference.
04:3114-0 and 10-0 are actually dramatically different
04:34the way these games are being played.
04:36And, you know, yesterday, I know they got a few decent runs.
04:39But again, if you look at the yards per carry, they didn't run it well.
04:42I actually thought the offensive line in pass protection
04:46was better than it has been most of the season.
04:49Part of that also, the Ravens were just dropping 7 in coverage
04:52and really only rushing 4.
04:54So, that did make a difference, too,
04:56because there weren't a lot of windows to throw the football.
04:58And obviously, you know, Deshaun Watson was,
05:01I don't know if rattled is the term, but indecisive.
05:04How many times?
05:05Oh, he held onto the ball forever.
05:06He held onto the ball and then pitched like he was going to throw
05:09and brought it down.
05:10Then in the fourth quarter, he's holding onto the football,
05:12but he's getting first downs.
05:13Right.
05:14So, I got to take the good with the bad.
05:16That's their offense.
05:17Or the bad with the good.
05:17I hate to say it, that is their best offense.
05:19Their best offense this season has been Deshaun Watson escaping a sack,
05:26finding a way either with his legs or getting out of the pocket
05:29and hitting guys, buying time for guys.
05:31That's it.
05:31That's their best offense.
05:32And normally, I would say that is not sustainable.
05:35But it is four times now he's been able to do this.
05:37And really five times.
05:38He brought them back in the Jets game.
05:40You know, he gave them the lead in the Jets game.
05:43And if guys hang onto the ball, we're talking about five.
05:46Well, see, this is what I'm doing.
05:49And this is why.
05:49Like, on Friday, when they had announced that Tyler Huntley was going to start
05:53in the afternoon, like, you and I weren't on the air,
05:55we didn't get a chance to react to it.
05:57I saw a lot of people going, they're going to be four and two.
05:59And I'm going, whoa, easy.
06:01I have a lot of respect for Tyler Huntley, and you should too.
06:03This is a very good backup quarterback.
06:05This is a guy who knows how to make all the throws, the reads,
06:08and everything.
06:08He's very, very smart with it.
06:09He can do a lot of good things with the football,
06:11and he could be problems for us.
06:13And in the first quarter, and really the first half,
06:15looked like they were going to be problems for us.
06:17I mean, when you get out to a 10-0 lead,
06:19it felt like it was insurmountable with how poorly our offense was going
06:21and how decent.
06:23I mean, it cooled off.
06:24They made their adjustments.
06:25But with how decently the offense went for the Baltimore Ravens.
06:28Now, you could turn right around.
06:29If you want to be a naysayer or you don't want to sit there and believe,
06:33you can try to turn right around and say that, well,
06:36it wasn't against Lamar Jackson.
06:37Yeah, Lamar Jackson's a two-time MVP.
06:40Lamar Jackson's a high-level quarterback.
06:41Very high-level and higher-level than Tyler Huntley.
06:44No one's denying that.
06:45However, I still have a good professional quarterback.
06:48I didn't think it was the, and I can't remember his name,
06:51the quarterback that you went up against when you played the Arizona Cardinals
06:54when Jonathan Gannon had first taken over a couple years ago.
06:57I forget.
06:58But it wasn't like one of these things where you're just going to line up
07:00and go lose the game.
07:01This is a good football team.
07:02And I still felt that yesterday was a measuring stick game for this football team,
07:07and they passed that test, and now you're 4-2.
07:10Before, I'll admit, and I use this analogy too often,
07:14felt like we were robbing a bank,
07:15and we had to get all the wins we could get before everybody got us figured out.
07:18Guys, we're six weeks into the season.
07:20We're six weeks into the season.
07:21You've been figured out.
07:22You've had guys hurt.
07:24You still don't have a lot of depth.
07:25You're calling up Sam Kamara every week from the practice squad
07:28because we're trying to get Mason Graham back out there.
07:31We're trying to get Mike Hall back out there.
07:33You have Carson Suescher limping around during the week in a boot,
07:36and then he's playing like there's some things that, yes, are a little bit thin.
07:42But when you're 4-2 after six weeks, like, yeah, I think that this can still be sustainable
07:47because I look at the rest of the league, and I look at you, and I go,
07:50you're playing at a higher level than what I thought you could,
07:53and these other teams are playing down levels.
07:55Well, and I'll add one other thing that, you know, we thought he was getting away with
07:59early in the season, which was turnover-worthy plays.
08:02I mean, we're six games in.
08:03He's only got two interceptions, and I know it's not like he has a boatload of touchdowns.
08:07That's not really the offense that this is, and I think we're now understanding
08:11what the identity kind of is of this offense.
08:13It's just not going to be that with Watson in there, but, you know, two interceptions,
08:19six games in, and we could talk about coulda, woulda, shoulda, and I normally do.
08:22I bring up the interception turnover-worthy plays, but if you look around the league,
08:27like yesterday, Huntley, Huntley had, like, five balls that could have been intercepted.
08:31He really did.
08:32Like, he had, he was closing his eyes, throwing the ball over the middle on some of those,
08:35and we were dropping them, right?
08:37They were right to the Browns on a handful of plays, it felt like.
08:41Deshaun's not doing that right now.
08:43He isn't.
08:43So, while the three and outs are tough to suffer through as a fan base,
08:49and the Boo Birds came out yesterday, you know what he's not doing?
08:51Giving a team a short field.
08:53Which, lose you the game.
08:54If you would have done it once yesterday, they would have lost.
08:56That's, and that's part of the entire point.
08:58And I understand it's that thin between a conversation.
09:03At three and three, I think there's people calling in today,
09:05and they're talking about replacing the quarterback.
09:07If that would have continued yesterday, yes, 100%.
09:10And I probably would have stopped and said,
09:12wait, we'll see against Tennessee, you can't just get rid of the quarterback
09:15because you've lost two in a row and you're 500.
09:16But you're four and two now.
09:17That conversation isn't starting.
09:19Like, there's no conversation anymore.
09:21He's your starter.
09:22And yeah, I know, 16 of 26 for 164, no touchdowns, no picks.
09:26I mean, that's high school numbers.
09:27Those are high school football numbers.
09:28And I used to say that about Daniel Jones back in the day.
09:31They made him a franchise quarterback.
09:33So, but I'm not talking about franchise.
09:35I'm talking about winning week to week.
09:37I'm talking about being a team that can make a seven spot,
09:40a wild card spot in a postseason.
09:41I'm talking about a team that, as of right now,
09:44is fighting for the divisional lead.
09:45And I'm not trying to look around and see when this other shoe is going to drop.
09:50We're six weeks into the season.
09:52Like, we're getting closer and closer to Halloween.
09:55And I look at this team.
09:56I look at the schedule.
09:57I look around the league.
09:58And I go, why can't this team be competitive?
10:00The only thing that's stopping people from believing they're competitive is their recent history.
10:04And the recent history is very nasty.
10:06But you have a new coach.
10:07You have a little bit of a new.
10:08You have a much different philosophy.
10:10You have a much newer philosophy on it.
10:12And defensively, I think things have changed.
10:14I'm not going to sit there and blame 95 for the last couple of years
10:17because he was a phenomenal player.
10:18He's an elite-level player.
10:19He's the best to ever do it on defense on this franchise.
10:22But you see, what did Siciliano put?
10:2511 different defensive players for the Browns have sacks this year
10:29through six games, I think it is.
10:3111 different guys.
10:32So, yeah, it's not Jared-verse.
10:34I understand some people have been going, where's him?
10:36Are we having – a guy literally asked me,
10:38are we going to have a conversation soon about him?
10:40I go, I got so many other guys making plays here.
10:43It's hard for me to go ripping on Jared-verse.
10:462-1-6-4-7-4-0-92.
10:48Do you want to ask Darryl about Jared?
10:49I think we should.
10:50Also, yeah, Gavin Williams not going tonight.
10:54Not even available tonight.
10:55Is that a mistake by Steven Vogt?
10:57I want Darryl's answer about that coming up in five minutes on the fan.
