00:00Nick, we do have to bring up, just because this has popped up,
00:03Jonathan Jones put out an article over on The Athletic,
00:06which he put up as free-to-read, kind of what I'm hearing around the NFL right now.
00:11And we've got to talk Browns quarterback.
00:13And one of the highlighted sections of this article is that it was Shador Sanders,
00:18hires an agent, but would the Browns move him?
00:21And basically, Jonathan Jones has gone through and detailed, obviously,
00:24the hiring of Shador's agent, but kind of landed on the fact that at this point,
00:28what he's hearing around the league is that the Browns
00:31not going to move Shador Sanders by the deadline.
00:33I actually think that this is the smartest outcome possible.
00:37I feel like we finally have all maybe settled on common sense.
00:41You've got a quarterback in Deshaun Watson that I spent the first hour talking about
00:45still not being sold because of the 10 interception worthy plays,
00:50because he has more fumbles than games started this year,
00:55because he plays statistically bad in cold weather.
01:00And I'm looking at the calendar, and it's reading October 18th.
01:03I'm looking at the weather, and it's only going to get colder.
01:06I think it makes sense for the Browns to hold on to Shador Sanders.
01:10But what becomes interesting to me is you're getting ready to have this very familiar
01:16four-man quarterback conundrum, Jake, where you're going to have to activate Dylan
01:21with the back from the IR, and you probably aren't going to cut Talon Green
01:26because somebody would claim him if you release him.
01:30You've got a roster that's beat up right now.
01:32You're banking on these practice squad elevations every week.
01:35Sam Kamara played a huge role for you in that Jets game.
01:38Chris Williams is going to play a big role for you today against Baltimore.
01:42So I don't know that you could use four roster spots on all of these quarterbacks,
01:47but with me not feeling so hot and gooey over what Deshaun Lonson's doing right now,
01:52I might need Shador at some point in the next couple weeks.
01:55Forget about trading him.
01:57Yeah, I mean, listen, there is a side of this, and I agree.
01:59I don't think trading Shador makes any sense.
02:01I also don't think rostering four quarterbacks makes any sense for this team.
02:04And you are going to get put into a position of kind of just what happens, right?
02:08Like, you have to kind of go out there and make some kind of decision of,
02:13okay, I mean, the Browns are playing good enough football, right?
02:16We are above 500 right now.
02:18Even if they are at 500 next week, you've got to put Dylan back on the team at some point.
02:22You need all the spots on your roster.
02:24Like, you're using about the 48 guys that you dress every single week.
02:27So, like, you're really going to take one of those just to not play Talon Green,
02:32who has not been active for any of these games,
02:36to make sure that you have Dylan Gabriel roster,
02:38to make sure that you have Shador Sanders rostered.
02:40It's like, you've got to make a decision here at some point.
02:42And I think the problem that we walk into is, like, what's the alternative?
02:46Like, Andrew Barry, knowing that he drafted both these guys a year ago,
02:51you know how Andrew thinks to a degree.
02:53It's going to be, I'd like some value back out of this.
02:55I'd like to avoid having to cut one of these players.
02:59And, like, listen, I agree.
03:00I don't think either of them are bad enough to cut, right?
03:02Like, Talon Green's interesting enough that I don't want to cut him.
03:05The problem that you run into is either of those guys have value around the league right now, Nick?
03:11Well, here's the elephant in the room.
03:12I'm looking at me standing right over there.
03:15The New York Giants lost their quarterback and are playing in a wide-open NFC East right now.
03:21They opted to keep rolling with Jameis Winston.
03:23It's working okay.
03:24But the Washington Commanders had a quarterback need and didn't call you out for Shador.
03:29The Philadelphia Eagles, what's going on with Jalen Hurts?
03:32I hope everything's okay with him medically with a really scary blood clot situation.
03:38And you know he's going to be out for the next four weeks.
03:40But you hope that medically the young man is okay enough to, you know, resume playing the position at some
03:45point.
03:45Eventually, forget about this year.
03:47They're putting his health first.
03:50They're signing Joe Milton off the Cowboys practice squad over Shador Sanders.
03:55So, the elephant in the room here is I don't think that the Browns are getting a ton of attractive
04:00trade offers.
04:01To your point, Jay, you want to get some sort of value back.
04:04Okay, you drafted the guy in the fifth round.
04:06Is good value getting a fifth round or a sixth round or a seventh round pick back for somebody that
04:11you've now invested two years into developing?
04:14And you saw some promising flashes last year.
04:17I just don't think they're going to get an offer that's going to blow their socks off enough to move
04:21the guy.
04:22Now you're kind of stuck in this spot.
04:23And again, like, and I think it's, it is again good for Browns football.
04:27Like, having Shador right there with you as somebody who pushed Deshaun, somebody who is obviously the younger option.
04:33And you don't know what happens with Deshaun's health.
04:35You don't know what happens with his play.
04:36Like, having somebody that you view as, you know, somewhere near equal is big.
04:41Like, it continues your season in case of emergency.
04:45But yeah, you're also in a spot of like, he's clearly not valued very high around the league.
04:49They're not giving you anything.
04:50And I agree, Nick.
04:51Like, for either of these quarterbacks, if they got a, I don't even think it needs to be a godfather
04:55type of deal.
04:56If you just got a really good deal knowing you have four quarterbacks, you might be considering pulling the trigger
05:01just knowing what's out of the horizon.
05:03If somebody got crazy and threw you a fourth for either of them, forget about the names.
05:06For Gabriel, Green, or Sanders, somebody throws a fourth rounder out there.
05:11I've known Andrew Barry to be a guy that enjoys fourth round draft picks.
05:15I just don't know that anybody's even coming with that.
05:17Yeah, I don't think so.
05:18So at this point, you kind of are stuck with all four of these guys.
05:24It definitely feels that way.
05:25We'll see what they do again.
05:26That's Jonathan Jones of The Athletic reporting that he does not see from what he's hearing around the league.
05:31The Browns moving Shador Sanders by the deadline.
05:34I question right now, if we're looking at the Cleveland Browns, like, I want Quinchon out there.
05:39He's far and away, especially with Dylan Sampson still not returning from IR this week, although the practice window's open.
05:45We saw him get in there in a limited capacity.
05:47And Raheem Sanders going to the IR.
05:50Like, you have Jaleel McLaughlin.
05:51They signed Audrick Estime off of a practice squad, off the Vikings practice squad.
05:56Like, you kind of turn around.
06:00I still, knowing that Quinchon is the best running back, I just don't know that it matters.
06:04And, like, that is the sad reality of this right now.
06:07Yeah, that's tough to say out loud.
06:10That speaks volumes to the current state of your belief in this run game, Jake.
06:15Nick, I want it to be good right now.
06:17I really do.
06:18And, like, again, I like Quinchon a hell of a lot more than I like anybody else.
06:23You just stare at what he's been able to do.
06:25I mean, against New York in the rain, do you think the run game had to get going?
06:28It's 14 carries for 44 yards.
06:30That is sub-4 yards per carry.
06:31By the way, he is averaging 3 yards per carry.
06:3453 yards against Pittsburgh, where it felt better.
06:373.1 yards per carry.
06:38Carolina, horrible run defense, right?
06:40We just talked about going into that week.
06:43Bears putting up, like, 200-plus yards against them.
06:45So, 70 yards on 18 carries, still sub-4 yards per carry.
06:48And, obviously, 21, 33 the weeks before that.
06:50Like, it just doesn't make a difference.
06:54Like, we've had weeks this year where Deshaun Watson is your leading rusher
06:58with, like, 40 rushing yards.
07:00That is unacceptable.
07:02And part of this is on Quinchon.
07:04And, Nick, we've talked about it.
07:05So much of this is on the offensive line, too.
07:08Like, how am I supposed to turn around and feel confident
07:11when I know there's no hole getting opened up?
07:13But Quinchon's not being patient enough.
07:15Like, again, like, you put your little McLaughlin back there.
07:19Yeah, he's got a touchdown on a carry.
07:21Probably because they didn't think he was getting the ball
07:23and he got some really good blocking out of KC.
07:24Right.
07:25Right.
07:26I'm nervous about this element of the football game.
07:29I know I probably sound like a broken record, Jake.
07:31I'm with you.
07:32I want to see Quinchon play.
07:34I think Quinchon will play with this ankle tweak that he's got going.
07:39But I'll tell you, dude, I didn't love the amount of time
07:43that was spent this week talking about that the Browns can't run the football
07:47because they don't do much under center.
07:50Okay?
07:50Well, you're not going to do much under center today
07:52because you're going to have to use Deshaun Watson in his legs,
07:55and that's why you're not going under center much.
07:57Which, by the way...
07:58I didn't love hearing Todd Munkin talking about that he felt like the offensive line
08:04took a regression in terms of their communication up front in the run game.
08:08Like, guys, that isn't a Quinchon issue.
08:11Like, that's an issue that's between Elton and Zion and Titus
08:16and the guys up front blocking for Quinchon.
08:19Those guys got to get right, or else it doesn't matter
08:22if you put Derrick Henry from the other side in your backfield.
08:25If there are no holes to run through, you're going to have a tough day running the football.
08:30They got to get that sorted through today,
08:33and that's kind of an issue that is independent of whether Quinchon plays or he doesn't.
08:37From the shotgun standpoint, like, okay, so being in shotgun does allow Deshaun to use his legs,
08:41which, by the way, I thought he's done pretty well this year.
08:44Outside of ball security, like, the legs actually look way better than I ever thought they would.
08:47Against the Jets, he looked better carrying the football than your 22-year-old running back did.
08:53Yeah, so, like, I like that aspect of it, but I just don't know that playing so much shotgun,
08:59and you are.
08:59Like, I know that Deshaun pushed back on it this week, that it's not all him.
09:03He didn't talk about the uncomfortability of Todd.
09:06Deshaun's been here for now, you know, going on five years.
09:08We know he doesn't like to run under center.
09:10We know he's not very comfortable doing it, and that was a problem with Kevin.
09:14You don't go under center with as many problems as you're having.
09:16You don't give an extra blocker in front of Quinchon.
09:18You don't give him a little bit of a head of steam to run through.
09:22You give the defense the opportunity to go hit him in the backfield.
09:26I just don't know how good it can possibly look.
09:27Where's Michael Burton?
09:28Maybe give me Michael Burton.
09:29Give me my fullback today, and maybe that'll get this run game going for you, Jake.
