00:00Hello, very good morning to you. We've had a rather changeable week of weather across the UK, some wetter periods
00:06at times, but also some dry and bright interludes. Today is one of those drier days. As we say goodbye
00:12to this weather front, which has been moving southeast across the UK overnight. Some early rain to clear, but then
00:17a ridge of high pressure building in, so things settling down for much today. Some early cloud and the odd
00:22spot of rain in the far southeast to clear this morning, but actually for many places it'll be a dry
00:26day. Yeah, some fair weather cloud bubbling up and perhaps filling in at times.
00:30But there'll be some decent bright or sunny spells. One or two isolated showers and showers most likely actually across
00:35parts of northwest Scotland for a time with still fairly breezy conditions here. But elsewhere, with the best of the
00:40brightness further south, wind should be light. And actually temperature wise, feeling pleasant in any sunshine as well, getting into
00:46the low 20s. So certainly possible we could see 21, 22, maybe very locally, 23 degrees this afternoon. That's 73
00:53in Fahrenheit. Further north, typically high teens, so still pleasant enough and not far off average really for this stage
00:59in Saturday.
01:00September. But overnight, things start to change once again. We still have the ridge in the south first thing this
01:05evening and overnight. But actually out west, we turn our attention to this area of low pressure. It'll bring wind
01:10and rain in off the Atlantic to the northwest. But actually, if you follow the ice above all the way
01:14down to the subtropics here, this is some very warm, moist air coming in. So quite a bit of rain
01:18likely late tonight.
01:19But we do start the evening on a fairly quiet note. The cloud that will have built up through the
01:24day will break away and clear skies then for many to start the night and turning quite chilly with the
01:28odd fog patch.
01:29But here comes that cloud, wind and rain spreading into Northern Ireland and Western Scotland initially and then becoming more
01:34persistent and extensive across more northern parts of the UK through the early hours of Saturday.
01:39And it will be quite windy with this as well, particularly across the Hebrides. Later tonight, first thing Saturday morning,
01:45we could well have gusts 50 to 60 miles an hour in more exposed spots.
01:49In stark contrast, though, the south of the UK is staying largely dry and clear with relatively light winds here
01:54right the way through to the end of the night.
01:56And here it will be a cooler night tonight compared with last night with temperatures out in the countryside down
02:01into single figures. Further north, some of these values actually will be early in the night before the cloud and
02:06wind and rain comes in.
02:07So temperatures rising actually across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland late tonight into tomorrow morning.
02:13But it does mean a pretty unsettled start to the weekend, particularly in the north. Further wind and rain across
02:18a good part of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northern England too.
02:21Some of this rain really quite persistent on these western hills. So Cumbria, maybe northwest Wales for much of the
02:26day.
02:26That front gradually sinking further south. But even at this stage, there's a bit of uncertainty about how far north
02:31or south this front will be during Saturday afternoon.
02:34But either way, underneath this thicker zone of cloud and rain, it'll be fairly cool south of this across southern
02:41parts of the UK.
02:42Quite a bit of dry and sunny weather for Saturday and could well see temperatures getting a smidge higher than
02:47Friday.
02:4724, 25 degrees, not completely out of the question for Saturday afternoon.
02:52North of the front, we'll see skies brightening again with sunny spells and a few blustery showers, these most frequent
02:57in the west.
02:58And even here, temperatures mid to high teens and to the east of high ground, eastern Scotland, maybe northeast England,
03:04also getting into the low 20s as well.
03:06So certainly a very mild, humid air mass in place through the course of Saturday.
03:11And we continue to push this front further south then through Saturday evening and into Sunday.
03:15So there'll be a splash of rain even in southern areas through Saturday night into early Sunday before yet another
03:21ridge of high pressure builds in to give a lot of settled weather to end the weekend.
