00:00Welcome to your Met Office weekend weather updates. There will be some ravishing rain for some this weekend, but for
00:06others, some sumptuous September sunshine.
00:08Yes, it's a classic mixed picture this weekend for the early part of autumn.
00:13And here's the reason why we've got both high and low pressure gradually moving in.
00:18The high trying to smear itself across the south, but the low will eventually win out.
00:22And this is bringing tightly packed isobars, meaning strong winds, and the weatherfront's bringing outbreaks of rain, making for a
00:28pretty wet start due to the weekend.
00:30Of course, most of Scotland, northwest England, and the rain will steadily spread into north Wales, too.
00:35Should be clearing from Northern Ireland, so turning a bit dry here after a pretty wet Friday night.
00:41This rain is likely to be quite heavy, hence the brighter colours.
00:43So it's worth keeping an eye on the forecast, because it could be a very wet start for northwest England,
00:48north Wales, parts of southwest Scotland.
00:50Then, as we go through the day, that rain will gradually creep its way south.
00:54There's some uncertainty about exactly how fast it moves in across the Midlands and down towards parts of south Wales.
01:00It may linger over parts of northwest England, but should get drier across much of Scotland.
01:04A few showers coming in from the west, and most of southern England stays dry, and particularly the far southeast
01:10should hang on to some sunshine for most of the day.
01:13But as I said, the central zone across England and Wales may well be fairly cloudy and fairly wet through
01:19much of Saturday.
01:19Quite gusty and blustery, the winds at times as well.
01:23There's that weather front draping its way down.
01:25It does mark the boundary between some cooler, fresher conditions further north, and still some warmth across the south.
01:31So in and around the London area, we could get to the mid-20s, whereas elsewhere will be high teens,
01:36low 20s at best.
01:37I'm feeling cooler with the brisk wind.
01:39Still some of that rain around through Saturday evening, so bear that in mind.
01:43If you're heading out, the rain will slowly spread into the south, so some welcome rain here perhaps on Saturday
01:48night.
01:49This is a waving weather front, and they do always give us meteorologists a little bit of a headache, never
01:55quite clear cut.
01:56So do keep up to date with the forecast, particularly if you've got plans on Sunday morning,
02:00because that front might not be quite out of the way on Sunday morning across southern parts of England.
02:06Certainly it could still be providing some outbreaks of rain over the Channel Isles, and maybe over southernmost counties too.
02:11Hopefully it will clear away quite rapidly.
02:14And then, for many, Sundays are dry and a bright day.
02:17A little ridge of high pressure toppling in, so the winds will be lighter.
02:20There'll be a mixture of cloud, sunny spells, maybe the odd light shower here and there.
02:24But for most places, it looks dry and fine on Sunday, and not bad conditions in Newcastle for the Great
02:30North Run.
02:31Elsewhere, I say some sunny spells coming through.
02:33The winds will be lighter.
02:35It will be cooler, slightly fresher air.
02:37So temperatures, heighties, low 20s.
02:39But still in the south, with a bit of sunshine, we could get to 23, 24,
02:43probably feeling less humid on Sunday compared to Saturday's conditions.
02:47Behind me, there are more weather fronts, more bands of rain waiting to move in through the early part of
02:53next week.
02:53So the weather remains pretty changeable into next week.
