00:00We've had a bit of a tease of summer this week. Temperatures for some got into the mid-20s Celsius,
00:06but now it's turning markedly cooler and there will be plenty of showers on offer through this
00:11weekend. First of all though, let's look at the bigger picture for first thing on Friday morning
00:15and there's high pressure sitting to the south of us and so that's going to be dominating,
00:20bringing a lot of dry weather. Could be a bit of a chilly start on Friday morning for some of
00:24us,
00:24but yes, it is going to be largely dry and it's going to stay largely dry across much of Scotland,
00:29England and Wales through the bulk of the day. For Northern Ireland, however, it's going to turn
00:33wet, it's going to turn windy because of a low pressure system to the northwest of the UK and
00:38its associated fronts that are sweeping their way through. The rain in associated with that front
00:43will edge into parts of western England and Wales and also across much of Scotland as we go overnight
00:48into Saturday. Watch out for some strong gusty winds, gales, severe gales perhaps towards the northwest,
00:54gusts of around 60 to 70 miles per hour possible and that could cause some problems. And also the
00:59rain could be a bit heavy, especially towards northern areas. We're talking 10 to 20 millimetres
01:04perhaps building up as we go through overnight into Saturday. Because of the unsettled weather,
01:09the cloud, the rain, the strong gusty winds for many, it's not going to be a particularly chilly
01:14night. Temperatures generally not dropping as low as they will have done on Friday morning.
01:18But as we go through the day on Saturday, it is going to be quite cloudy, quite wet first thing
01:23for many places, a swathe of wet weather in association with this band of rain here. That band
01:29though does gradually clear away towards the east, the more persistent rain largely clearing many places
01:34by around lunchtime, albeit lingering for that little bit longer across parts of Orkney and more
01:39so Shetland where it's going to stay pretty wet through much of the afternoon. Behind that band of rain
01:44there will be some bright, some sunny spells for most of us. So some blue sky breaking through the
01:49cloud, but also plenty of showers. And these showers could pack a bit of a punch. There could
01:54be some heavy, possibly even thundery showers around, but hail can't be ruled out at times as well.
01:59And all the while, whilst it won't be as windy as it will have been overnight, I think the strongest
02:04winds will start to ease during the early hours of Saturday morning. It is going to be quite blustery at
02:08times, particularly in any of these heavier downpours. And those blustery winds will make it feel a little bit
02:13cooler than these temperatures suggest. They're around average for the time of year, a marked drop
02:18from what we had during the middle of this week. But nonetheless, in the shelter from the breeze and
02:23in any sunshine, it's not going to feel too bad. More showers to come for many as we go through
02:28the
02:28end of the day on Saturday and overnight as well, especially towards the north and west. I think here
02:34we're going to see the more frequent showers continuing overnight. The closer you are to that low pressure
02:38to the northwest of the UK, the more showers we're going to see and the stronger the winds will be
02:44as
02:44well. Worth bearing in mind, these showers could be building up. We could see some high totals in
02:49association with them if you get a few of those heavy ones later Saturday and overnight into Sunday.
02:54So that could cause a few issues. Meanwhile, towards the southeast, further away from that low
02:59pressure, lighter winds here, clearer skies, drier as we go through into the early hours of Sunday
03:04morning could be a bit of a chilly one, perhaps a bit chillier than on Saturday morning here.
03:09And then Sunday, really, well, again, it's another showery day. So once more, yes, there will be some
03:14bright sunny spells around, particularly early on across some eastern, southeastern parts and even
03:19elsewhere, a few breaks in the cloud for sure, but plenty of showers. And again, these showers could be
03:25quite heavy, could be thundery and there could be some hail mixed in with them as well. And all the
03:29while,
03:29the blustery winds, well, they're going to be strongest towards the northwest of the UK with
03:34that low pressure edging just that little bit further towards us. And so a pretty blustery
03:39picture with the showers, but not a total washout. There will be some dry sunny weather at times as
03:44well. Temperatures similar, maybe a degree or so higher compared to Saturday for many, but still
03:49those blustery winds making it feel a little bit cooler at times, perhaps compared to what these
03:54temperatures here behind me say. Then as we go through the end of Sunday and into Monday, well,
04:00we still have the influence of that low pressure towards the north of us, but it is drifting further
04:05north. And then there's a ridge of high pressure of sorts. And so that's going to quieten the weather
04:10down. Nonetheless, I still think there will be some showers as we go through the first day of next week,
04:14particularly towards some western, but also some eastern parts could see some showers. Central areas
04:19at the moment looking largely dry, but the detail may change as we get nearer the time. There
04:24is then more low pressure waiting out in the Atlantic. And so as we go deeper into next week,
04:30I think we're going to end up with a bit of a northwest-southeast split. The wettest,
04:33the windiest weather towards the northwest, but nothing too worrisome at the moment. And then
04:40towards the southeast, it's looking dry and also potentially relatively warm for the time of year
04:45as well. Of course, we'll be keeping you up to date with developments as we go through the next few
04:50days, through the weekend and into next week. So make sure you subscribe to our YouTube
