00:00It doesn't really feel like October at the moment, with temperatures well above average for the time of year, especially
00:05in the south.
00:07But a change to something a bit more autumnal is on the way.
00:10Currently, there's a front lying across the UK, and that's bringing a bit of cloud, bit of rain, yes.
00:15But it also marks the boundary between the warm air in the south and the fresher air across northern parts.
00:20As the front edges further southwards through Tuesday and into Wednesday, yes, the rain could pep up a little bit.
00:26Some heavier rain across parts of the southeast, for example, but it will also allow for fresher air to pile
00:32its way in across many places, so temperatures are set to drop.
00:35But let's look back first at Tuesday, and a foggy start for some across southern areas, so watch out for
00:42that.
00:42Could cause some problems on the road.
00:44There will be some bright weather across southern parts once the fog lifts and the cloud breaks a bit, and
00:49here it's generally going to be dry through much of the day.
00:51A bit cloudier, a bit damp at times across more central parts, with that front lingering here.
00:57And then across Scotland, it's a mixture of some sunny spells, yes, but also a fair scattering of showers, and
01:02some of them could be a little bit on the heavy side, perhaps even the odd rumble of thunder.
01:06Now, as I mentioned earlier, we have a north-south divide when it comes to temperatures on Tuesday.
01:11Warm in the south, temperatures well above average for this stage in October, much fresher in the north, if anything.
01:17Temperatures here for some will be a little bit below average.
01:21Later, as we go through Tuesday evening and overnight, we see two swathes of rain, really.
01:26The front that's lingering across central parts invigorates itself a little bit, and then there's a swathe of more rain
01:33that comes up from the south.
01:34And these two zones are going to merge together through the early hours of Wednesday morning.
01:38As a result, we end up with a cloudy, wet start to the day on Wednesday across much of England
01:43and Wales, but a drier and a bit clearer start across more northern areas.
01:48As a result, there's a north-south divide with our temperatures again, much milder still in the south, fresher across
01:54northern parts.
01:54Touch of grass frost maybe in rural spots, possibly even an air frost in the most prone areas.
02:00Then through Wednesday itself, yes, wet to start across much of England and Wales, but through the day, that rain
02:05is edging further eastward.
02:07So becoming confined to eastern areas by the time that we get to the middle to end of the afternoon.
02:13Behind it, a few showers will be pulling in, actually a bit more than a few showers, really, quite a
02:17few across parts of Scotland.
02:19And again, some of these could be heavy.
02:20There could be some blustery winds mixed in with them as well.
02:23But then we have that fresh air that's coming in, so temperatures will be a few degrees lower in the
02:28north compared to Tuesday and a few more degrees than that lower compared to Tuesday across southern areas, mid to
02:35possibly high teens at highest, which is quite a drop from the low 20s.
02:39That rain does eventually clear away towards the southeast, but it takes quite a while to do so.
02:44So a bit of a wet end of the day across those southeastern areas.
02:47But I wanted to show you the rainfall totals that are likely to build up through Wednesday.
02:52Now, the heaviest rain as it invigorates, peps up through the day will be across parts of northern and more
02:57so eastern parts of England.
02:59Some model runs were hinting at perhaps in excess of 50 millimetres in a few places, with a fair amount
03:04of that coming in just a few hours.
03:06So a substantial amount of rain, even if those highest totals don't actually come off, because it does look like
03:11it'll be the wettest day that we've had here for quite a while.
03:15Then overnight into Thursday, we have a brief ridge of high pressure building.
03:21It is pretty brief, but nonetheless, it means we're starting the day on Thursday largely dry, clear skies.
03:27So a chilly start. Yes, again, a touch of frost in some places, a few showers down eastern areas with
03:33the fresher air.
03:33You can't rule out some of those showers turning a bit wintry, some snow possible over the tops of the
03:38Scottish mountains.
03:38Nothing out of the ordinary for October.
03:41And then later on, we see cloud building, rain pushing in initially across Northern Ireland, but reaching far western parts
03:47of England, Wales and Scotland by the end of the afternoon as well.
03:50Still that fresher feel. So after a chilly start for some temperatures, well, around or a touch below average perhaps.
03:57But we're still looking at highs of 16, 17 Celsius with light winds towards the east.
04:00Decent amounts of sunshine for the time of year. It won't feel too bad really at all.
04:06Then into Friday, that wet weather in the west gradually makes its way eastwards.
04:10It is going to be heavy across western parts, particularly higher ground over western Scotland, western parts of northern England
04:15as well, seeing some heavy rain as we go into Friday as well.
04:18Eventually, it will clear away, but the timing, it's a bit uncertain.
04:23But nonetheless, at the moment, it does look like Friday could be quite wet.
04:26But as we go into Saturday, well, we're ending up with a blustery, showery theme, where this front lies could
04:33be in the English Channel, so that could bring some more persistent rain to southern areas.
04:37But generally, it looks like it's going to be a bit of a showery day for quite a few of
04:41us on Saturday and some still blustery winds.
04:43Then another ridge of high pressure is set to build, and so Sunday could get off to a quieter start
04:49before a relatively deep air of low pressure may develop towards the northwest of our springs and more unsettled weather
04:55later on in the weekend.
04:56But we'll have more information about that as we get nearer the time.
