00:08Welcome to my baby snowman crochet tutorial. This pattern is no-sew, beginner-friendly,
00:14quick to work up, and makes a great stocking stuffer.
00:20For the materials, you'll need some medium weight 4 yarn in your desired colors,
00:25a 2.75mm crochet hook, 7mm plastic safety eyes, a yarn needle, stuffing, scissors,
00:34and a fork for making the pom-pom.
00:41To begin, we're going to start round 1 with a magic ring.
00:46Insert 6 single crochets in the magic ring.
00:53Here's 1 single crochet, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
01:07Now, you're going to tighten the ring by pulling on the starting yarn tail.
01:18And we're ready to move on.
01:21For round 2, we're going to increase all the way around,
01:24so insert 2 single crochets in each stitch.
01:29Here's my first increase.
01:31In the next stitch, insert 2 single crochets as well.
01:38In the next, insert 2 single crochets.
01:44And continue on all the way around until you have 12 single crochets in the round.
02:01Now, for round 3, we're going to single crochet and increase all the way around for a total of 6
02:07repetitions.
02:14In the next stitch, single crochet and an increase in the next stitch.
02:25And let's repeat that all the way around.
02:58Now, for round 4, we're going to single crochet 2, 1 and 2 and then increase in the next stitch.
03:08And repeat this all the way around.
03:11Single crochet 2 and increase.
03:19Single crochet 2 and increase.
03:25Once you repeat 6 times around, you'll have 24 stitches in the total stitch count.
04:00Now, for round 5, we're going to increase again.
04:03Single crochet 3 and increase all the way around.
04:07I'm going to use my starting yarn tail to kind of mark my spot.
04:12Single crochet 3 here.
04:15And increase in the next stitch.
04:20Repeat it around for a total of 6 repetitions.
04:25You'll have 30 stitches in the end of the round count.
04:32Now, for round 6, we're going to single crochet 4 and then increase, repeating that 6 times around.
04:59So here, you're going to single crochet 1, 2, 3, oops, 3 and 4.
05:09And then, in the next stitch, we're going to increase.
05:13And then, in the next stitch, we're going to increase.
05:36For round 7 to 11, all you're going to do is single crochet around.
05:42No increasing, no decreasing.
05:44I'm going to move my yarn marker, or my starting yarn tail, up to this round.
05:51And simply crochet in straight rounds.
05:55We'll meet back at the end of round 11.
06:02Here's a look at round 11 complete.
06:05If you haven't already, flip your piece inside out.
06:10You'll see the wrong side is out right now, and the right side is in.
06:14So I'm going to go ahead and just flip it around.
06:22And we can go ahead and continue with round number 12.
06:26For round 12, we're going to single crochet 4 and then decrease, repeating that 6 times around.
06:34So here's single crochet 1, 2, 3, and 4.
06:41And now, for the decrease, we're going to insert the hook into the front loops of the next 2 stitches.
06:49And then, like so, and then we're going to yarn over, pull through both of those front loops,
06:56yarn over, and pull through both loops.
07:00That's what we call an invisible decrease, and that makes for neat decreases.
07:05And I would recommend doing that for the body of the snowman.
07:28Now, for round 13, we're going to single crochet 3 and then decrease all the way around.
07:35That's 1, 2, and 3 single crochets.
07:40And then I'm going to decrease.
07:43Repeat around for a total of 6 times.
07:47For round 14, we're going to single crochet 2 and then decrease, repeating that around for a total of 6
07:54times.
07:55Here's single crochet 1 and 2.
07:58And then here's the decrease.
08:04Go around 5 more times.
08:071 and 2 single crochets and decrease.
08:12For round 15, we're going to work completely in front loops only.
08:17And we're going to do single crochet 2 and then increase.
08:21So, going into that front loop, I'm going to insert my first single crochet.
08:28And then going into the next front loop, I'm going to insert my next single crochet.
08:35And then in the following front loop, it's going to be an increase.
08:41So, inserting 2 single crochets in the same stitch.
08:46And let's repeat around for a total of 6 times for 24 stitches in the end.
09:08Now for round 16, we're going to single crochet 7 and then increase 3 times around.
09:17So, let's go ahead and begin.
09:19We're going to single crochet 7.
09:251, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.
09:43And in the next stitch, you're going to insert an increase.
09:48So, 2 single crochets in the same stitch.
09:53And we're going to repeat that sequence 2 more times.
10:02And then for round 17 to 20, we're just going to single crochet around.
10:08No increases, no decreases.
10:10I'm going to use this red piece of scrap yarn as a stitch marker.
10:15You can use an actual stitch marker if you want.
10:20And now, just single crochet all the way around until you finish round 20.
10:38Here's a look at round 20 complete.
10:41As you can see, the head of the snowman is starting to form and it's quite tall.
10:47We're going to now work on round 21.
10:50It's a decrease round, so you're going to single crochet 7.
10:551, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.
11:08And then you're going to decrease in the next 2 stitches.
11:13So, single crochet those 2 stitches together.
11:18And let's continue around 2 more times.
11:24Now is a good time to stuff your snowman.
11:28And then attach those safety eyes.
11:31I put in 7mm eyes between rounds 18 to 19.
11:36And they're 6 stitches apart.
11:39So, here's 18 and here's 19.
11:42After you secure the eyes, you can go ahead and continue with round 22.
11:47Single crochet 2 and then decrease all the way around for a total of 6 times.
11:53Here's single crochet 1 and single crochet 2.
11:59And now we're going to decrease.
12:14And here we're going to continue on with round 23.
12:18Single crochet and decrease all the way around for a total of 6 times.
12:24Here's my single crochet.
12:26And here is my decrease.
12:42And finally, we're going to decrease all the way around for a total of 6 stitches.
12:50Make sure your snowman is stuffed well at this point.
12:54Because we're closing it up.
13:17After you've decreased all the way around, you can go ahead and fasten off with a long yarn tail.
13:23Which you will use for sewing that opening closed.
13:42Let's start the hat with a different colored yarn.
13:46I'm using blue here.
13:48We're going to start with a magic ring.
13:50And in the ring, you're going to insert 2 chains.
13:54And then 12 double crochets.
13:58Here's 1 double crochet.
13:593, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10,
14:3311, and 12.
14:36Finally, you're going to tighten the ring.
14:39Pulling on that yarn tail.
14:43And we're going to finish with a join.
14:46So join with a slip stitch to the top of the first double crochet you made.
14:56Like so.
14:58Now, for round 2, we're going to chain 2.
15:02And then insert 2 double crochets in each stitch around.
15:07That's a double crochet increase.
15:10So there's my 2 double crochets in the first stitch.
15:152 double crochets in the next stitch.
15:22And all the way around.
15:38Finish round 2 with a join to the first double crochet using a slip stitch.
15:47Now, let's go to round 3.
15:49Round 3, you're going to chain 2.
15:52And simply double crochet all the way around.
15:56So insert 1 double crochet in each stitch.
16:02At the end, you're going to join with a slip stitch to the first double crochet.
16:08And your hat is going to start taking shape.
16:13For round 4, you're simply going to make a chain.
16:16And single crochet all the way around in back loops only.
16:23So single crochet in the back loops only.
16:27Single crochet.
16:37At the end, you're going to join with a slip stitch to the very first single crochet.
16:49Then, you're going to fasten off with a long tail, which you will use for sewing to the head of
16:55the snowman later.
17:01I'm going to chain up to 33.
17:02Grab a different color yarn for the scarf.
17:04For the scarf, you're going to make a long chain of 33 chains.
17:11Please note that if you want your snowman to have a longer scarf, you can just add additional chains.
17:17But I'm going to chain up to 33.
17:45After you've got 33 chains, you can go ahead and loop it around your snowman.
17:50Next, you'll see how it looks.
17:52And again, if you want to make it longer, just add another chain or two.
17:56If you want it to be shorter, you can pull out some chains as well.
18:02Next, you're going to insert your hook into the second chain from your hook.
18:08Here it is, the second chain from your hook.
18:12And you're going to single crochet and insert a single crochet in each chain across.
18:20We're going to work back to the very start of the chain.
18:38Once you finish single crocheting all the way across, you can go ahead and fasten off with a long yarn
18:44tail.
18:45You're going to use this yarn tail to sew the scarf to the snowman later.
18:54And what you can do if you find that your scarf is curling, go ahead and pull on it to
19:00kind of loosen up these stitches.
19:03You don't want it to become too curly because it'll be hard to work with when you put it around
19:08your snowman's neck.
19:23Using orange yarn and a yarn needle, go ahead and sew a little carrot nose between the eyes.
19:32Then, use brown yarn and a yarn needle to sew stick arms to the sides of the body.
19:39I like to make my stick arm long with three little fingers.
19:46You're welcome to stitch the arms however you'd like.
20:06I like to knot up all the loose ends and then trim them short and stuff them back into the
20:13snowman's body.
20:15Then, you're going to want to sew the opening of the head closed.
20:21And weave in all loose ends.
20:28You can use this time to also sew the scarf onto the snowman's body.
20:35Or if you're lazy like me, just use a crochet hook to pull the yarn ends through.
20:55To make the pom-pom for your hat, go ahead and cut off six inches and loop it into the
21:01center of a fork.
21:04Then, wrap yarn around your fork many times. The more, the fluffier your pom-pom will be.
21:11When you're satisfied with the amount, go ahead and take the starting six inches yarn tail and tie it really,
21:20really tightly in the center of the fork.
21:26You'll want to double knot it, pull the whole thing off the fork and you're going to cut the two
21:33ends.
21:35You'll now have a very fluffy but uneven pom-pom and what you'll want to do is kind of even
21:43it out by trimming the edges.
21:49Trim, trim, trim, trim, trim, trim, trim. Trim until you're happy.
22:01And you can now pull the pom-pom ends into the hat.
22:08I like to tie the ends securely.
22:13And go ahead and sew the hat onto your sewman's head.
22:47And here's the finished look.
22:49You now have a cute little baby snowman and I think it is just perfect to make for the holiday
22:56season.
22:57It makes a great stocking stuffer or a Christmas tree ornament as well.
23:02I hope you had lots of fun crocheting this project with me.
