00:11Hi friends! Today we're going to crochet this adorable little no sew fish pattern. It is a fun and easy
00:19project suitable for beginners.
00:22You can have a lot of fun with creating different colored fish and you can practice your color changing techniques
00:28as well.
00:30You can also create this fish using solid colors only and it will still look great.
00:35You can make it with or without its flippers and you can also use different yarn weights to create different
00:41sized fish.
00:42So here this is a medium weight yarn fish and for this one I use super bulky weight six yarn.
00:51So as you can see there's quite a bit of a size difference.
00:55If you make it with thinner yarns it makes a suitable keychain size.
01:01So you can go ahead and attach a keyring and it'll make a perfect little backpack buddy.
01:08Alright, let's go ahead and go over the materials needed for this fish.
01:17Let's go ahead and go over the materials for this project.
01:21You can use any type of yarn you want but I'm using the medium weight 4 yarn.
01:27This is Hobby Friends Cotton 8 slash 8 and you can pick whatever color you would like your fish to
01:34be in.
01:35With the medium weight yarn I am working with a 2.75 millimeter crochet hook.
01:42You'll also need some 6 millimeter plastic safety eyes, a bit of stuffing for your fish, scissors, and that's it.
01:56To begin you are going to start with a slip knot like so.
02:03And you are going to make 2 chains.
02:061 and 2.
02:09After you make 2 chains you are going to insert 6 single crochets in that first chain you made.
02:15Or the second chain from your hook.
02:17And so here I am putting in 1 single crochet, 2 single crochets, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
02:37Now if you want to start off with a magic ring you are welcome to do that.
02:42I prefer starting off with this chain method especially if you are using plush yarn because it will be harder
02:49to close up the magic ring with plush yarn.
02:52But since I am using this cotton yarn it should be quite easy to do the magic ring.
02:58Anyhow, let's go ahead and start on round 2.
03:01For round 2 what you are going to do is insert your hook into that first single crochet you made
03:06in the last round.
03:08And you are going to insert 2 single crochets there.
03:11That's called an increase.
03:13So here is 1 single crochet and here is 2 single crochets in the same stitch.
03:23Oops.
03:27There we go.
03:29And you are going to increase all the way around inserting 2 single crochets in each stitch around.
03:36That's going to be 6 increases total for 12 stitches in this round.
03:42So let's do the second increase.
03:47The third increase.
03:57The fourth increase.
04:02The fifth increase.
04:08And the sixth increase.
04:15After you do that you are ready to move on to round number 3.
04:19For round 3 you are going to do a single crochet and increase and repeat that all the way around.
04:27So that repetition is going to happen 6 times.
04:31Single crochet and then increase.
04:38That's the first repetition.
04:41And then single crochet and increase.
04:45That's the second repetition.
04:48Single crochet and increase.
04:52Here's the third repetition.
04:55and keep going until you go all the way around and have 16 excuse me 18 stitches total
05:10after you've gone all the way around with 16 or excuse me with 18 stitches you're going to
05:18single crochet all the way around one more time so let's go ahead and I'm just using my yarn tail
05:26to kind of keep my place here so I know where I started my round you can use this an
05:34actual stitch
05:34marker if you want if you're cheap and lazy like me just use a yarn tail or a piece of
05:43scrap yarn
05:44would do the trick too so here are single crocheting all the way around for 18 stitches total
06:01all right after you've done that you can go ahead and make sure your piece is flipped inside out by
06:08the way so that the right side faces out and the wrong side faces in and now is the time
06:18to go
06:19ahead and switch yarn colors if you want to change your own colors for the body of the fish I'm
06:25gonna
06:25go ahead and switch to a different color to switch yarn colors don't don't do anything about the last
06:36stitch you made you're just gonna kind of leave that loop there and you're gonna insert your hook into
06:42the that last stitch and you're going to pull in the new color so here I'm gonna grab some purple
06:50yarn
06:53and let's go ahead and just pull it through like so then you're going to single crochet like normal in
07:02the next stitch
07:07and I like to hold that yarn end um in between my stitches to kind of hide it there and
07:15that keeps
07:16it from going becoming undone easily as well it's a good way to um keep from having to sew in
07:24or weave in
07:25the ends and as you keep crocheting um your you can let go of that yarn tail after a few
07:33stitches
07:34but as you keep crocheting you'll have that beautiful color change and you can go ahead and pull
07:42that blue yarn tail as well and you see that it just um results in a very clean change so
07:51I'm going to
07:51snip off my blue yarn because I no longer need that and let's go ahead and single crochet all the
07:59way around
08:01in purple
08:05and what you're going to do is for the next few rounds all the way till round seven you're only
08:13going to
08:13single crochet around you're not going to do any increases any decreases just work around single
08:22crochets only and what I'm going to do is I'm going to switch colors between purple and pink
08:31for the next few rounds to give my fish a colorful look so we're going to go ahead and meet
08:38back at the
08:39end of round seven um and we'll see where we're at there when you finish round seven of the pattern
08:49you can go ahead and insert plastic safety eyes into your fish I put them between rounds two and
08:57rounds three of the pattern and you can go ahead and put them on both sides of the head
09:05like so um the eyes I used are six millimeter eyes but you're welcome to use any size that you
09:11want
09:13now let's go ahead and continue with the pattern what we're going to do is a decrease round you're
09:19going to single crochet and decrease all the way around and I'm going to now use the pink yarn as
09:27you
09:28see I've been kind of switching colors here so using the pink yarn for this next round single crochet
09:36and then decrease which is to single crochet two stitches together like so
09:44and then repeat that around for a total of six times single crochet decrease
09:56single crochet decrease
10:05single crochet
10:09decrease
10:14and single crochet decrease
10:31all the way around
10:32for this last round I'm going to go ahead and switch back into the purple yarn
10:40and we're just going to decrease all the way around
10:44so that means to single crochet two together here
10:50oh and by the way you'll want to stuff your fish before the opening gets too small
10:57so now is a pretty good time to do that and I'm actually going to fasten off the pink yarn
11:04because I'm no longer going to use it
11:15so let me go ahead and stuff the fish's body
11:28so let me go ahead and stuff the fish's body
11:29and we're going to finish this last round
11:33um I started decreasing around let me go ahead and get back on track here
11:50what you'll want to do at this point is go ahead and um make sure you're starting at the bottom
11:56of the fish's body
11:58for um beginning the tail so I am already at the bottom of my fish's body
12:04and you can tell by seeing where you place the eyes
12:08so this is a little different for everyone if you place your eyes
12:11um in different spots compared to mine you may have to start at a different spot
12:18but I see that this is right between those two eyes close enough
12:24if you do need to adjust your starting point what you'll do is slip stitch in the next stitch or
12:32stitches
12:34like so until you reach the very bottom of your fish
12:40so wherever that might be this is definitely not the bottom of my fish because that's where the eyeball is
12:46unless I have a fish who's like kind of like a flounder I guess but nope
12:52I'm just going to pull out those two slip stitches
12:56all right anyways start at the bottom of your fish's body
13:00slip stitch if you need to get there
13:03and what you're going to do is um switch to the tail color for the fish
13:10so here I'm going to insert my hook into these loops
13:15all right and now I'm going to start with my tail color which is going to be the same color
13:21as my fish's
13:22head let's go ahead and pull that in
13:29and I'm going to pull that purple down okay there we go make a chain to start
13:37and then you're basically going to work through both layers of the um body here so I'm going from
13:46one stitch to the next stitch across we're going to kind of fold that but hold that body flat
13:54because we're going to stitch that opening closed so now is a good time for me to also snip away
14:00this
14:01purple yarn because I'm not using it anymore this makes it easier for me to see what I'm doing
14:06so we're going to close up these six stitches with three stitches across now that's one single crochet
14:24and then before I do my second one I'm just going to kind of squeeze those yarn tails in
14:36yarn tails squeezed in now I can go ahead and continue on so I've made one single crochet
14:45um across both of those stitches I'm going into the next stitch and the next one across
14:53single crochet through both those layers and last set of stitches single crochet
15:07now as you do that let me adjust my fish a little bit you should have three stitches going across
15:15your fish's body and the opening is now closed
15:22all right and now what we're going to do is crochet the uh fish's tail
15:31we're going to chain three
15:35like so then you're going to turn your piece and then we're going to work across those three stitches
15:44we're going to insert um a double crochet and a half double in the first single crochet
16:02then a single crochet in the next single crochet
16:08then a half double and a double in the next
16:24then you're going to chain three
16:28and slip stitch into that same stitch
16:39and as you can see you've got a little tail now you're going to fasten off the yarn end here
16:53and you're going to weave in the ends of this tail
17:08and there you have it your little fish can be complete just the way um it is at this point
17:16with a little body and a tail if you'd like to make the flippers we can go ahead and do
17:22that as well
17:23let me show you how you're going to grab yarn that um you're going to use for the flippers first
17:30and i'm using blue yarn to match the head and the tail
17:36and what you'll do is you're going to insert a hook between excuse me insert your hook
17:42between a stitch in round six and so if i'm counting from the beginning that's one two three four five
17:54six
17:54it's this pink round right here for me and you're going to insert your hook into where you want the
18:01flipper to be
18:04um so you might want to check where the top of your fish is this is the fish's bottom for
18:10me
18:10because you'll see that's where my color changes kind of happen so i'd like my flipper to be right around
18:18here for this side and again insert your hook under that stitch in round six you're going to pull yarn
18:27through like so then let me make that here until a little shorter up here all right then you're going
18:39to make a chain yarn over insert your hook into that same stitch yarn over pull through a loop yarn
18:52over
18:52and you're going to pull through all three of those loops one two and three then you're going to make
19:01a
19:02chain and you're going to slip stitch into that same stitch
19:12then you're going to fasten off that yarn end
19:19let's pull the beginning and ends and you're just going to weave in the ends here
19:26i'm pulling it through that same stitch so you can hide it
19:31well
19:38and what i'm going to do is actually cut the ends here
19:52and let it hide inside all right so there's one flipper and now i'm going to crochet the next
20:00flipper on the other side of the body
20:06and i'm going into um between a stitch in round six as well
20:13hold on let me see where i want it to go
20:24i'd like to go into this one here so i'm going to insert my hook and let's go ahead and
20:29repeat those
20:30same instructions
20:35so you're going to pull yarn through chain yarn over insert your hook into the same stitch
20:43yarn over pull yarn through yarn over go through all three loops chain and then slip stitch
21:00and when you finish you're going to fasten off and weave in those ends
21:21and that is that for your little fish i hope you enjoyed this project
21:27it is so quick and easy as you can see and it's very fun to create um little fish in
21:34a variety of
21:34different color combinations if you'd like to make a longer fish all you have to do is add more rounds
21:41to the body i hope you enjoyed this project and stay tuned and subscribe for more cute tutorials
21:49thanks so much for watching bye now
