Crochet the body of Sweet Softies’ Fox Tail Scarf and shape the cozy piece that will wrap around your neck for winter wear. In this part of the tutorial, the project moves from the fox head into the scarf body using a 9 mm crochet hook and double crochet stitches, with a wider second round to help set the fit.

The instructions show how to join each round, work straight rounds for length, and adjust the scarf to be shorter, longer, thinner, or wider depending on your preference. After round 18, the body is narrowed with decrease rounds, preparing the project for the tail while keeping the same red yarn and hook.

Perfect for crochet tutorial fans, amigurumi-style scarf projects, and low-sew handmade accessories, this body section is a clear step-by-step guide for making a snuggly fox scarf. It’s useful for anyone searching for crochet scarf pattern, fox tail scarf, double crochet tutorial, and winter crochet project ideas.

00:17Let's now work on the body of the fox. You're going to be using a 9mm crochet hook to crochet
00:25the body and for the tail. To begin round one for the body, you're going to pick up where
00:31you left off for the head and you're going to make two chains to start. We're going to
00:41double crochet around for this first round. So insert a double crochet into each stitch
00:47around. The stitches might feel a little tight because they are made with 6mm hooks and you're
00:59now using a 9mm hook. So wiggle if you need to to get into each stitch.
01:49at the end of the round we're going to join with a slip stitch to the very first double crochet
01:58for round two of the body it's going to determine the width of my scarf currently round one is 18
02:05stitches around for round two in my pattern I wrote it to be 20 stitches around so it's
02:13going to be slightly wider here and that's going to be the right width to go around my neck but
02:20if you
02:20want to make yours even wider or thinner you are welcome to change that when you make your scarf
02:30wider than mine you're going to want to add more increases in the second round in round two of my
02:37pattern I'm writing that you will be making just two increases in this round for that 20 stitches
02:44but again if you want to make it more like let's say you want to increase six times around you
02:51can
02:51do that and have a wider scarf all right so let me show you how to do round two based
02:58off my pattern
02:59you're going to make two chains and then you're going to insert um eight double crochets one two
03:14three oops slippery yarn here it feels amazing it's just slippery for me to work with from this angle
03:24I find it really awkward to be recording myself when crocheting by the way because it's very hard
03:32to be able to sit and look over a camera at what my hands are doing but I'm managing all
03:41right one two
03:43three four five six seven eight great after eight single eight double crochets you're going to make an
03:51increase so in this next stitch I'm inserting two double crochets in the very in the same stitch
03:59there's my increase and I'm repeating that again so eight double crochets and another increase you'll want
04:08to join your stitch um excuse me join your round at the end of this round
04:17again always join to the very first double crochet that you make
04:37and that's that for um round two
04:42now this is as wide as my scarf is going to be um if you again if you wanted it
04:48wider please adjust
04:49accordingly for round two it's going to be very easy to um just go with whatever um stitch count you
04:57want because for the next long stretch of the pattern and I'm doing it from round three to 18
05:03you can make yours longer if you want but I'm just going to be double crocheting around
05:09straight rounds no increasing no decreasing so um you're going to want um the length to be
05:18able to wrap around your neck comfortably and if you again if you want a shorter scarf just don't go
05:26all the way up to round 18 if you want a longer scarf add more rounds until your scarf is
05:33at the desired
05:34length you'll want to make sure again to double check the length by wrapping it around your neck
05:40before we start decreasing for the tail after round 18
05:46here's a look at my scarf with round 18 complete we've gone from 3 to 18 here and again if
05:55you want
05:55to adjust the size the length excuse me just add more rounds or decrease more rounds all right from
06:03here on out we're going to get ready to finish the body and then make the tail we're going to
06:09now make
06:09a couple decrease rounds for the body before we wrap up for this next round round 19 we're going to
06:18chain
06:18two and then decrease all the way around we're doing double crochet decreases so we're double crocheting two
06:27stitches together
07:06all right and now at the end of the round i'm simply going to join with a slip stitch to
07:12the
07:13um first double crochet stitch made or the first decrease stitch made and then for round 20 chain
07:22two and once more decrease around i'm double crocheting each pair of stitches together and you should get a
07:32total of five stitches or five double crochet decreases at the very end of this round
07:50and once more slip stitch to join
07:54at this point um your scarf would have narrowed down as you can see here's the end of it
08:05and now um when you finish that we're not going to fasten off yet because we're still going to continue
08:11working with this red yarn um and we're now going to work on the tail and continue using the nine
08:19millimeter hook
