00:08today we're going to crochet this cute Daisy bookmark it is no sew quick and easy and takes
00:15up very little yarn to make it's a practical handmade gift for any book lover or teacher

00:32ahead and go over the materials and get started let's go over the materials what you'll need is
00:41some fingering weight yarn this is weight number one yarn in this hobby's friends cotton 8 slash 4
00:48you'll also need a 2.75 millimeter crochet hook to go along with your yarn you'll need
00:56a pair of scissors and a yarn needle not for sewing pieces together but just for weaving in the ends
01:04alright let's go ahead and get started for round one you are going to start off with a magic ring
01:13and in the magic ring you'll insert five single crochets if you want to have 12 petals insert
01:22six single crochets so here I'm going to do five for my 10 petals that's one and here's two three
01:33four
01:38five after you finish the single crochets you're going to tighten the ring
01:47and now we're going to increase all the way around that means putting one single crochet in each stitch
01:54so going into that very first single crochet here I'm going to put in two single crochets
02:10one and two and repeat that all the way around you'll have a total of 10 stitches if you started
02:18with five single crochets and if you started with six single crochets you'll have a total of 12 stitches
02:25at the end of round two now at the end we're going to join with a slip stitch to the
02:46first single crochet
02:47that you made in other words it's the next single crochet here
02:55and now that produces as you can see a flat little circle we're going to get the color yarn
03:02you want for the petals i'm using white here for my lovely little daisy and i'm going to
03:10now make a petal a petal is going to be three chains like so one two three
03:24then a triple crochet in the same stitch so that's yarn over twice insert your hook into the stitch
03:37i'm going to pull through a loop and now yarn over go through the first two loops go through the
03:45next
03:45two loops and go through the last two loops then chain three and slip stitch into the same stitch
03:56and that finishes one petal we're going to repeat that all the way around um again you're going to do
04:04you're going to end up having 10 petals for um this flower if you had 10 stitches in the previous
04:11round
04:13and you'll have um 12 if you had 12 stitches in the previous round so again for the petals i'm
04:20going to do
04:21um one two three chains and then triple crochet into that next stitch
04:34one two three chains and slip stitch into the same stitch
04:45i'll make that with you again one two three chains triple crochet
04:52okay then chain three one two three and slip stitch into the same stitch
05:14i'm gonna fasten off that yellow because it's um now getting to be in my way
05:36one two three triple crochet
05:44keep going one two three triple crochet
05:52and we're going to repeat that all the way around we're going to go ahead and do the stem now
05:58we'll
05:59we'll first join with a slip stitch to the first stitch or the first petal so just doing a little
06:06slip
06:06stitch here and after that go ahead and grab the yarn you want for your stem i'm using this lovely
06:15green here and all you have to do is make a long chain with that just make sure you kind
06:24of keep your
06:26yarns um the loose ends from unraveling i'm going to snip off the white now actually
06:35and make sure you have enough of the tail so you can use it for tying and weaving in later
06:40you know let's go ahead and keep crocheting the long chain for the stem
06:49i usually crochet between 70 to 80 chains but you can really do however many you'd like
07:02it'll just determine the length of your bookmark
07:09here as you can see i've crocheted quite a length for the stem part of my flower and i would
07:17like to
07:18now create the leaves so once you've gotten the length you want we're going to make an additional
07:26eight chains for the leaf the first leaf so from here one two three four five six seven and eight
07:35then we're going to start from that second chain from the hook
07:39insert your hook into that second chain from the hook and make a slip stitch
07:47then a single crochet then a half double crochet we're just working into these next stitches here
07:58in the next stitch a double crochet
08:06and now in the next stitch we're going to put two triple crochets so that's yarn over twice and then
08:14go in
08:17here's my triple crochet and another triple crochet right in that same chain
08:29and now in the next chain we're going to do three stitches together it's going to be a double crochet
08:36a half double crochet and then a single crochet and now you'll see that we're at uh we've made half
08:45of
08:45the leaf we're now going to turn our piece around and work along the other half of the the other
08:50side of
08:51the chain in that first stitch we're basically reversing the directions by the way so in that first stitch
08:58a single crochet a half double crochet and a double crochet
09:07in the next stitch two triple crochets right here one
09:17and two
09:24now it's going to be a double crochet in the next stitch
09:28and then a half double crochet in the next
09:32a single crochet in the next
09:36and a slip stitch in the last stitch
09:41and here's what my leaf looks like now
09:47and we're going to go ahead and stitch back to the base of the leaf starting from the tip here
09:53and to do that we're going to use the surface slip stitch method
09:57so you're going to insert your hook into the next stitch in the middle and yarn over pull through for
10:05a
10:05slip stitch
10:07going into the next stitch
10:11slip stitch again going into the next one
10:16slip stitch next one
10:22and last one
10:25and i'm going to also go into the base of the leaf here
10:32so i reach the very bottom now that you've done that we are going to make a second leaf
10:38you could finish with just one leaf if you want to
10:41and call it a day if you want to make two leaves like me i'll go ahead and show you
10:46how that's done
10:47you're going to insert your hook into a stitch or into the next chain into the stem
10:54so now i'm like securing the spot on the stem
11:01like so and now i'm going to branch out for the second leaf
11:06that's one two three four five six seven eight
11:11and we're basically repeating the same instructions for the second leaf too
11:27so now with that second leaf complete we're going to also slip stitch back into the stem here
11:40and after that you can fasten off with a long tail that you're going to use for weaving in
11:55and you'll go ahead and weave in all of those yarn tails in the flower as well
12:02after you have it woven in you'll have a finished flower bookmark
12:13here's the lovely flower bookmark i have with all the ends woven in this one has 12 petals
12:22and the one i showed in the video oops here has 10 they both look quite lovely and again if
12:31you
12:31want to change it from five sorry from 10 to 12 petals just start off with six single crochets in
12:38the
