00:13Today we're going to crochet the adorable little Huggy Buddy. These Huggy Buddies are little dolls
00:19that you can string onto a necklace and let your little one take to school so that they won't feel
00:27as anxious and nervous. They are meant to be little buddies to help you keep those worries away. For
00:36the base pattern you can create so many different varieties. The only difference is in the ears for
00:42some and the color changes as well as the yarn colors that you use. Here I have a sloth, a
00:50little
00:51piggy, a penguin, a bear, and a bunny. Today I'm going to show you how to crochet the little
00:59penguin doll. But if you get the PDF pattern you'll see all the instructions for the different
01:05variations and how to crochet for example the bunny's ears, the teddy's ears, or the piggy's ears.
01:13All right let's go ahead and go over the materials. For this project you will need some yarn. I'm using
01:24some super bulky weight Chanel velvet yarn here. This is Hobby's Honey Bunny yarn. With that I'm using a
01:31five millimeter crochet hook. You will also need some stuffing, some seven millimeter plastic safety eyes,
01:40a yarn needle, and a pair of scissors. Let's go ahead and get started.
01:52Let's go ahead and start with the head. For round number one you're going to chain two and insert six
01:59single
01:59crochets in the hook. So I'm going to begin with a slipknot for my chain. And here is my chain
02:10two, one and two.
02:13Going into that second chain from the hook I'm going to insert six single crochets. That's one, two, three,
02:32four, five, and six. Oops. After six single crochets, you're going to go ahead and begin round two,
02:45which is to increase all the way around. So here I'm going into that first stitch and I'm going to
02:52increase by putting two single crochets in that same stitch. Let's increase in the next stitch.
03:10And then the next and so on until you reach the end of the round. You should have 12 single
03:18crochets
03:19crochets when you finish this round. Now that you finished round two, it's time to move to round three.
03:34For round three, I'm actually going to switch yarn colors and you can do that depending on which huggy
03:40buddy you want to make. If you're making the sloth or the penguin, now is the time to switch colors.
03:46But if you're making the rabbit or the bear or the piggy, you won't need to switch colors. You're just
03:54using the same color for the entire head. But here's how I would switch colors. So as you can see,
04:01my last
04:01stitch was pulled out and you can see that working loop there. Just leave it be. You're going to insert
04:09your hook into the last stitch like so. And then you're going to pull through the new color.
04:18Then you're simply going to keep working with the new color like normal around the entire round.
04:26So for this round three, we're doing single crochet and increase all the way around.
04:34So I'm just going to do a few stitches here. Single crochet and increase.
04:46And you can pull the white yarn tail after a bit. And as you can see, it creates this very
04:54neat color
04:55change. Now I'm going to snip off that white yarn because I no longer need it. I'm going to be
05:02using
05:02blue from here on out. And again, for round three, we're just going to work all the way around doing
05:12a
05:12single crochet and an increase. Single crochet, increase. Single crochet, increase.
05:35And at the end of this round, you should have 18 stitches.
05:53And now we're going to keep working. So for rounds number four to five, we're just going to single
06:01crochet around in each stitch. And I'll show you the first few stitches here. Going into that first
06:08stitch. I'm just going to single crochet and work into the next stitch, a single crochet,
06:15single crochet, and again, continuing all the way around.
06:24Now we are going to meet back at the end of round five when all, um, when these two rounds
06:31are complete.
06:34Here I am with round five complete. At this point is also a good time to add the plastic safety
06:41eyes.
06:42I'm using seven millimeter eyes and I'm just inserting them between rounds two and rounds three. So counting
06:50from the tip, it's one, two, three, between two and three. And, um, please note that you are going to
06:58put
06:58eyes to both sides of the head and that where we started with the magic ring or excuse me, with
07:04the
07:04chain method. It is the front of the doll's face and not the top of its head. So typically for
07:12Amigurumi,
07:12we're working from the top of the head downwards, but this is actually going to be the front of the
07:17face.
07:19So, um, after you put the eyes in, you can go ahead and secure them.
07:26After you secure the eyes, you're going to go ahead and continue with round number six. For round six,
07:33you're simply going to single crochet and decrease all the way around. So here's what it'll look like.
07:40A single crochet and then a decrease, which is to single crochet two stitches together.
07:51And then repeating that sequence around a single crochet and a decrease.
08:01A single crochet, decrease,
08:10and around.
08:23When you reach the end of the round, you have finished round number six. And now for round seven,
08:30you're simply going to decrease all the way around for a total of six stitches. Before you do that,
08:36it's a good time to go ahead and stuff the head of your Amigurumi. So I can just push in
08:43some of that
08:44stepping here and then continue on with round seven.
08:55And here, I'm decreasing around for a total of six times.
09:16After you have finished that round with all of those, uh, six decreases, it's time to snip off,
09:24um, the ends with the tail. Leave a long enough tail so that you can sew up that opening here.
09:32And then you are all done with crocheting the head of your Huggy Buddy.
09:38And let me just go ahead and attach the, or embroider, a little beak onto my penguin here.
09:50So just taking some orange yarn and going into this stitch right here.
10:14Now I'm sewing up the opening by going into the front loop only of these last stitches in the round.
10:23Going, um, into that first front loop and out the second front loop.
10:33And then in the next front loop, out the following, in the next,
10:47and out the following. And I'm going to pull tightly. And as you can see when I pull,
10:54all the stitches kind of cinch together. I'm just going to weave in the ends.
11:13Let's go ahead and make the body. We're going to start off with round one,
11:18which is two chains to begin. Here I'm doing my slip knot so I can start my chain.
11:25And now one chain and two chains. Then in that second chain from your hook,
11:32you're going to insert six single crochets. So that's one, two, three, four,
11:43four, five, and six. After you finish the six single crochets, you're going to increase in each stitch
11:57around. So that'll give you a total of 12 single crochets in the end. Let's go ahead and go into
12:04this first stitch here. You're going to increase by putting two single crochets.
12:10Then go into the next stitch and increase.
12:18Go into that third stitch and increase.
12:344th stitch.
12:414th stitch.
12:425th.
12:46Oops.
13:15So that's just putting one single crochet in each round here. And that should give you a total of 12
13:22single crochets.
13:30We're going to meet back at the end of round four after you've done your two rounds of single crochets.
13:39Here I have round four complete. And for round five, we're just going to decrease all the way around.
13:47Decrease is going to be single crocheting two stitches together.
13:52So here I'm going into my first decrease and then my second decrease.
14:03Decrease.
14:05Third decrease.
14:11Fourth decrease.
14:16Fifth decrease.
14:22And sixth.
14:28Then you're going to fasten off with a very long tail.
14:32This long tail is going to be used for sewing the body to the head later.
14:45Alright, so here's what the little body is going to look like.
14:52After this, you can go ahead and crochet the next part, which would be the feet.
14:58Let's go ahead and do that together.
15:04For the feet, we're going to go ahead and attach our hook to a stitch in round two.
15:09So here's round one. And here's round two.
15:13I'm going to go ahead and find a stitch here.
15:19And then you're going to attach yarn for the foot.
15:23Let me go grab that.
15:25I've got yarn for the foot now. So let's go ahead and pull that yarn through.
15:31Attach it like so.
15:32You're going to make a chain to begin.
15:35Then you're going to yarn over, insert your hook into that same stitch,
15:40yarn over, and pull through a loop.
15:43We're going to do that a total of three times.
15:47So let's do two more here.
15:49Yarn over, insert your hook, yarn over, pull through a loop.
15:53Yarn over, insert your hook, yarn over, pull through a loop.
15:58Then you're going to yarn over and wiggle your hook through all seven of those loops.
16:03So I'm wiggling through.
16:05Now that I'm through, I'm going to close up this cluster or this, sorry, this puff stitch
16:12with a chain.
16:14And then you're going to slip stitch into the same stitch.
16:21And now we're going to fasten off with this yarn tail
16:26and you're going to kind of pull all the yarn tails into the body.
16:33So that includes that ending yarn tail we just made
16:42and the starting yarn tail from the beginning.
16:53And you'll want to stuff your yarn tails into the body.
16:59Kind of hide them in there.
17:02And we're going to go ahead and work into the next foot by finding another stitch in round two.
17:12You don't want them too close together.
17:14You want the feet kind of across from each other.
17:20So I'm inserting my hook over here.
17:23Actually, I think I'll go here.
17:30Yeah, that seems about right.
17:32Okay.
17:33And that's where I'll attach my new yarn.
17:39And you're basically going to repeat those instructions for the second foot.
18:05After you have those two little feet in, it's time to crochet the arms.
18:11Let's get the yarn you want for making the arms.
18:14And what you'll do is attach your hook to a stitch in round five.
18:20Round five is that very last round you made of the body.
18:23I'm going to go ahead and put the arm to the side.
18:28I'd like it kind of aligned with my foot here.
18:34So let's start that off by attaching yarn.
18:37And then you're going to do eight chains.
18:40That's one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, and eight.
18:48And now you're going to go ahead and insert your hook into another stitch in round five
18:56on the opposite side of the body.
18:59So if you started from, let's say this is the penguin's left arm.
19:04We're going to go and put our hook into where the right arm would go.
19:10And again, I'm going to align it with my legs, make sure it's on the opposite side of the body.
19:16Here, I'm going to slip stitch to join.
19:23And then, um, you'll have kind of this loop.
19:28Oops.
19:31Here, if you can see, I'm putting my hook into the opening of my penguin's body.
19:36And these are the arms in the front.
19:39What you're going to do is you're going to turn your piece.
19:43And we're going to work back along the arms.
19:46We're going to insert a slip stitch into each of those chains in the arm.
19:52So here, I'm going to go in for a slip stitch.
19:57Oops.
20:02Into the next chain.
20:07For a slip stitch.
20:11And the next.
20:16And so on.
20:23Got an orange fluff there. Oops.
20:27Goodbye, fluff.
20:29All right.
20:30And that very last chain here.
20:33And now we're going to fasten off.
20:41And we're going to pull that yarn tail into the body.
20:50And I'm pulling both the starting and the ending yarn tails in.
20:58And I like to hide them by pushing them with the butt of my crochet hook into that body.
21:14And now you should have your little doll's body and the arms kind of in front of the body like
21:25so.
21:25So that's where you're going to loop through the necklace or the chain part of your necklace.
21:34And that's that for the body and arms and the feet.
21:41And now onto the very last step of finishing up, you're going to attach your yarn end of the body
21:50to a yarn needle.
21:51And then you're basically going to sew that opening of the head or, excuse me, opening of the body to
22:01the bottom of the head.
22:03And you can have your little huggy buddy look straight.
22:07So if you have it on a necklace, it's going to be looking up at the wearer.
22:13Or you can even have the head turned to the side, which is kind of a cute look when it's
22:19holding the necklace.
22:20So he's kind of looking out instead of looking up at the wearer.
22:25But it's totally up to you.
22:27So I'm going to go ahead and start off my first stitch here and just position the head to the
22:38body.
22:39You can really position it any way you want, like this or like this.
22:44I like it tilted a little downwards.
22:55And I'm simply going to sew it together, going slow stitch by stitch.
23:22When you are all done with your little huggy buddy, it'll be ready to be worn.
23:27So all you have to do is string your necklace through its arm loop right here.
23:34And it'll be all done.
23:38Here is a look at my sloth huggy buddy.
23:43As you can see, it's got this yarn looped around its arms.
23:49And you just tie the ends here for a very simple necklace.
23:58All right, hope you enjoyed this crochet tutorial.
24:02Again, you can check out the pdf pattern if you want to see all the variations of the huggy buddies
24:08you can make.
24:09It'll include instructions for the base body and head.
24:16And it'll also include little instructions on how to crochet the different features of the different animals.
24:24So for example, the little piggy ears, the bear ears, the bunny ears, and tips on what changes to make.
24:34All right, thanks so much for watching.
24:37Happy crocheting now. Bye!
24:39do
24:45you
