00:09Today, we're going to crochet Sack Baby, a Waldorf-inspired amigurumi doll that's slow-sew
00:15and quick to work up. My testers reported taking an hour and a half to an hour 40 minutes to

00:21and we all feel that it's a really fun and addicting pattern. It looks like a mini snuggler,
00:27but unlike unstuffed snugglers, it actually has a plush little body inside. This video tutorial

00:51your doll. For this project, you will need bulky weight 5 chanel velvet yarn, a 5mm and a 7mm
01:04crochet hook, 8mm plastic safety eyes or a black embroidery thread for embroidering the eyes,
01:11stuffing, yarn needle, and scissors.
01:22Let's start the head and inner body using the 5mm crochet hook and skin toned yarn. You can start
01:29off round 1 with a chain 2 method where you insert 8 single crochets in the second chain from your
01:35hook,
01:35or you can use the magic ring method that I'll be doing here. First, you're going to make the slipknot
01:42for the magic ring, and then you are going to insert the single crochets in the ring. I'm going to
01:49insert
01:49the 8 single crochets. That's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. Then I'm going to tighten the
02:06ring.
02:14And that is that for round number 1. For round 2, we are going to increase all the way around.
02:20So inserting
02:21your hook into that very first stitch, we're going to make an increase by putting in 2 single crochets
02:28in the same stitch. That's 1 and 2. Let's repeat around. Here's my 2nd increase. 1 and 2 single crochets.

03:43And you're going to repeat this for a total of 8 times, coming out with 24 single crochets at the

03:51or 24 stitches, excuse me.
04:18So after that, you are going to move on to round 4. For round 4 to 8, all you're going
04:24to do is
04:25single crochet around. So here, and you can move your stitch marker up if you'd like,
04:30but you're simply going to insert one single crochet in each stitch around. And what that does is create
04:38the length for the doll's head. You're going to get a long shape now instead of just a flat circle.
04:48And we are going to meet back at the end of round 8. Again, just insert one single crochet in

04:56stitch around for the next few rounds.
05:03Here's a look at round number 8 complete, coming from where I placed the stitch marker for 4. That's
05:094, 5, 6, 7, and 8. And now, what we're going to do is start round 9. And round 9
05:18is going to involve a
05:19decrease. We're going to first single crochet. And in the next stitch, we're going to make a decrease.
05:27So that's single crocheting 2 stitches together. Repeat that around, single crochet, and then decrease.

05:48And we're going to repeat around for a total of 16 stitches.
06:12For the eyes, you have a couple different options. Here, in this baby, I used 8mm eyes,
06:20and I spaced them 5 stitches apart. And in this baby, I'm going to be using 7mm eyes, so slightly

06:29and spacing them 4 stitches apart. And the way I count is by moving, um, here, let's count from here.
06:37So here is the hole for the first eye. We're going to go 4 stitches over. That's 1, 2, 3,
06:44and 4.
06:46Like so. And I do place, uh, both of them between round 6 and 7.
06:51Counting from the, from the top, that's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.
06:58So between 6 and 7 would be the eye placement.
07:03Now, you're welcome to change it up. Use any size eye you want and space it as far or as

07:42And for the next round, we're simply going to decrease all the way around.
07:47So that's going to be 8 decreases in total.

08:36Alright, so that's 8 decreases all the way around.
08:46For this next round, we're simply going to single crochet all the way around.
08:51So insert one single crochet in each of those 8 decreases.
08:58That's going to give you 8 single crochets total.
09:17And now, we're going to increase all the way around.
09:20So in that first, um, single crochet here, I'm going to insert 2 stitches.
09:29Here's an increase.
09:31And increase in the next stitch.
09:36Increase in the third.
09:39It's separate.
10:06You're going to notice how amigurumi is going to have a neck now.
10:11And here is where the inner body is forming.
10:14And now for rounds 13 to 19, you're simply going to single crochet around, putting one single crochet in each
10:22stitch.
10:23And again, um, using a stitch marker or a yarn scrap to keep track of your rounds would be really
10:29helpful.
10:30I'm putting it right at the start of round 13 here, where I, um, am going to count up all
10:36the way till 19.
10:39So let's go ahead, um, and meet back at the end of round 19.
10:45Here's a look at round 19 complete.
10:48Coming from the, um, stitch marker at round 13.
10:52That's 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19.
10:57So now, um, before we finish off the amigurumi's body, we're going to stuff it with, um, some fiber fill.
11:20Let's go ahead and finish off with the last round.
11:23For round 20, we're just going to simply decrease a round.
11:28So here's my first decrease.
11:31And it's going to be a total of eight repetitions.
11:34Here's number two.
11:38Number three.
11:42Number four.
11:46Five.
11:50Six.
11:54Seven.
11:59And eight.
12:03And after you finish round 20, you can go ahead and fasten off with a long tail.
12:10You are going to be using that long tail to sew the opening of the body closed.
12:15So, um, let me show you how I like to do it.
12:19Um, it's very easy.
12:22You're going to first attach a yarn needle.
12:26And then you're going to simply make a running stitch all the way around in the front loops only.
12:32So here I'm going in the first front loop and out the next.
12:37Keep the tail loose and, um, lax for now.
12:42In and out those front loops.
12:45In and out.
12:51So that takes us to, um, the whole round.
12:55And now as I pull that yarn tail tight, it will cinch closed neatly.

13:07And now all you have to do is to weave in the end.

13:30And as a tip, if your doll's body is a little bit, um, lopsided or caved in or dented
13:37in certain areas due to the crocheting or sewing, you can go ahead and just puff it right back up
13:43with a yarn needle, something really thin that'll help you, um, move into the stitches without, um,

13:54So here is what the head and the inner body looks like finished.
14:02And it's time to move on to the next part.
14:09For the arm, we are going to use two different colors and two different size hooks.
14:15For the hand, we will be using skin color yarn and a five millimeter crochet hook.
14:22Then switching over to the sleeve color, we are going to use a seven millimeter crochet hook for that part.
14:29Starting with the skin colored yarn for the hands.
14:32We're going to use a five millimeter hook and begin with a magic ring.
14:38In the ring, you're going to insert six single crochets.
14:43So here was my slip knot and one, two, three, four, five, and six single crochets.
14:58And now I'm going to tighten the ring by pulling on the starting tail.
15:09After that, for round number two, we are simply going to single crochet around,
15:15inserting one stitch in each, um, single crochet.
15:19So here's my first single crochet.
15:28Second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth.
15:39And you can go ahead and push your piece inside out.
15:45Remember the right side needs to face out, the wrong side face in.

26:06Here's what the sack looks like with round 10 complete.
26:10As you can see from here, it's four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and 10.
26:17For round 11, we are going to single crochet 10 and then decrease, repeating that around twice.
26:23Here's what the first repetition will look like.
26:27One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, and 10.
26:42And now I'm going to decrease.
26:48And repeat that again, single crochet 10 and decrease.
27:16And now we're going to single crochet nine and then decrease, repeating that around twice for round 12.
27:24So you're going to crochet one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, and nine.

31:48At this point, you're going to take the head and inner body piece that you created earlier.
31:54And we're going to stuff it inside of the sack.
31:58Keep in mind that you want the arms to appear aligned.
32:03So I like this to be the front of the sack.
32:07And this to be the back side.
32:11So I'm going to insert my doll.
32:15Oops.
32:18It might be a little bit of a squeeze.
32:20So you're going to have to stuff that body in there.
32:26All right.
32:29And we're going to kind of cinch up the hole a little bit, the neckline, with two decreases.
32:41So here, let's add two final decreases.
32:48One.
32:53And two.
33:02And now we're going to fasten off with a long tail to use it as a running stitch around the
33:11neck
33:12to sew it tighter.
33:14As you can see, there's still some looseness and you don't want the body falling out.
33:20So let's go ahead and stitch it up.
33:23Let's cut off a long tail.
33:33And now I'm just using my yarn needle to go and make a running stitch in and out of the
33:40last round here.
33:41So that's in the first stitch and out the next.
33:51In the next stitch and out the next.
33:56And we're going to go in and out.
34:01I'm keeping the yarn tail lax for now because we're going to pull on it tightly at the very end
34:09of the round, cinching it together.
34:13All right.
34:15Make sure that the eyes are pointed forward.
34:24Let's pull tightly.
34:27As you pull tightly, you'll notice that the neck, the line, or excuse me, the neck hole really cinches up
34:35close to the edge of the neck.
34:38And at this point, what you can do is add a couple stitches into the head or the neck, sorry,
34:48and going out the other side here.
34:50This will really secure the head in place, making sure it won't accidentally twist around and face a different way.
35:02But if you want to be able to have the flexibility to kind of turn your doll's eyes or face
35:09around, you don't have to do this last part of adding stitches.
35:19And when you are done, you can go ahead and fasten off and weave in the tail.

36:15So now, in that ring, we're going to insert one, two, three, four, five, and six.
36:38Go ahead and cinch up that ring, and you're going to move on to round number two.

40:54which you're going to use to sew the hat to the head.
41:03And the hat should be positioned in a way so that the yarn tail is going to be at the
41:10back
41:10of the head. Like so. And I like to have the back of the hat touching the edge of the
41:23sack here. So instead
41:26of just on the head, get it all the way down on the sack. This will help the hat look
41:33slanted
41:33and appear more like a hood as opposed to a floating hat, like so.
41:43When you're happy with the placement, go ahead and sew the hat down onto the head and the back of
41:51the sack.
