00:35to go around the outside, he just manages to stay in that third position, he's going to go to second
00:41before we get to the end of the sector, oh, I'll tell you what, Sascha Coonan scrubbed his way,
00:46heartbreak for the 33 of Kai Carsmakers there once again, but Coonan very close to crashing there as
00:53hit that scrub jump in at the end of what would be the first sector, but look at Ferreira,
00:59muscling his way down the inside, the top two in the championship on this opening lap,
01:03okay, might not have been the best time there, why?
01:08The pass for the lead around the outside, Ferreira makes it stick, he leads,
01:14wow, a fascinating first lap.
01:17Kai Carsmakers straight does get Rigo in there, but Ferreira,
01:20Ferreira's only fifth in the time practice, was he sandbagging, was he just getting it set up,
01:24but pure aggression from the Spaniard, and that's not the only...
01:27Yeah, Tommaso Plani there just having problems as well, well, anyway, he was,
01:31what, about two minutes, 14 lap time, 20 seconds off the next guy ahead of him in time practice,
01:37but he's going to score points this weekend anyway, but not in the qualifying race.
01:41Not this time, no, absolutely, Ferreira's pure aggression to get Goonan out of the way,
01:44he knows his main championship rival is right there, and again, McLennan, not with the best start,
01:49has work to do from fifth.
01:51So, Guillaume Ferreira, sandbagging a little bit, knows that maybe they've got that triumph dial for
01:56starts, and one thing or another, and track pace in the race situation, because here he is,
02:01he's ran it down the inside, here's how he did it, he got around the outside,
02:05Coonan tried to cover, tried to get his little elbows out as well, bless him, but a couple of lines
02:13to his left,
02:14Ferreira made it stick, got on the gas, and cleared the liquid molly jump ahead of the Belgian,
02:19he's now got to try and stay on two wheels, and try and extend that gap to 26 points,
02:23if he stays where he is, at the very minimum.
02:25And McLennan getting a challenge in that right-left section there from Janis,
02:29but manages to hold the Latvian back, an interesting aggression from Ferreira,
02:32Sasha Coonan, talking to him this week on the behind-the-gate interviews, and he was saying
02:36he knows the tactic here is get the whole shot, which he's very good at, and try and keep it,
02:41but obviously, Ferreira knows that trick as well, and he's tried to make sure that the Belgian doesn't
02:46keep it.
02:47Reislis here going after McLellan, these two fighting over that fifth place at the moment,
02:51Camden McLellan in a fight for third place in the championship, can't afford to be in battles with
02:56the Monster Energy Yamaha of Janis Reislis, he needs to find his way past the Red Bull KTM of the
03:00number one,
03:01Simon Langenfelder as well, to then go after Evertz and not lose too much to the likes of Ferez and
03:07Coonan, who is fighting within that championship, potentially.
03:09Yeah, McLellan's Achilles heel all year long has been the start, his teammate even ribs him for it,
03:14but right now he's got to hold off Reislis and get past Langenfelder and catch his title rivals
03:19up in front, as Paul says.
03:21to the inside then, Camden McLellan and Kai Carsmakers going from bad to worse,
03:28doesn't even complete a lap here in this MX2 qualifying race, problems at the start before
03:32the gate drop, rejoins the race and has issues again, and that is going to be a headache for
03:38the team down there, Dixon Race and Kawasaki.
03:40And he's just re-signed for that team for 2027 as well, so he might be, well, what can we
03:45say?
03:46Has that been announced yet officially?
03:47That looks really better, has been announced online, yes, on the MSGP website, but yeah,
03:51well, we'll see how permanent that move is.
03:56Evertz just going out of shot now, he's in third, here's Langenfelder, McLellan,
04:00Giannis Raceless, back to where he was victorious in the EMX 250 championship a year ago,
04:06gets it wrong through the rhythms there though, he was just trying to move up the inside of
04:10Camden McLellan, just trying to sneak a little inside move, but didn't get the drive, didn't
04:13get the distance, came up short on that plateau, and he's got more work to do to get on terms
04:18with
04:19the number eight South African. I mean, to be fair, I did sort of see a quote from or hear
04:24maybe
04:25something from Camden McLellan this week saying, obviously, he's third in the championship,
04:28is only 12 behind Sasha Killian, that's his goal at the moment, because yes, it's 37 points,
04:34realistically, mathematically, yes, it's possible, but realistically, over the next three rounds,
04:39can he, you know, I think he's just trying to take the pressure off himself at the moment,
04:42by suggesting, you know, the championship, yes, it would be nice, but my goal at the moment is
04:47the guy in front of me, 12 points, that's easier than 37 points, potentially.
04:51Yeah, absolutely, but he's dropping a few right now, and the Triumph boys are bashing into each other
04:55in some inflatable, should we say crash balls? That was hilarious. That was absolutely,
05:00that was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Ruben Fernandes was involved in there as well,
05:04so you can imagine it was a contact sport. Yeah, so if you don't know what we're on about,
05:07I'm sure there are some posts somewhere, but there are these like big inflatable balls,
05:11you put them on, you hold them, your legs are kind of exposed, your head's all protected,
05:15and you run at your buddy, you just bounce each other up and around, and they were
05:20getting launched and doing all sorts, and I spoke to Camden today, he said, yeah,
05:24actually it wasn't a good move, because now my hamstrings are all a little bit tight,
05:26this morning, coming into the race. I said, well, the best way you can get rid of that,
05:30is just go out and ride, he went, yeah, probably. Yeah, stretch it out.
05:34Anyway, Perez continues to lead, he's 2.7 seconds clear of Sasha Kunin, as they head down the back
05:39straight through the next couple of turns, Evans is third, here's Langenfelder in fourth,
05:42McLellan in fifth, there he is, the gap between those two, as they hit that split, now 1.5 seconds,
05:48so the MX2 Triumph rider, doing his best to keep the German in his line of sight, and
05:53try and better him if he can. There's Giannis Reisslis, just a little bit sort of left to right,
06:00out of that turn, over that step up, he's got his brother behind him, Carlos, and then we've got
06:03Maxim Groh, Noel Zanotz, who probably won't be in China and Australia on the Venroy KTM,
06:10and Julius Mikula in 10th place, who is trying to claim eighth overall in the championship over the
06:15next couple of three rounds. Yeah, it's certainly possible because he's level with Valan right now,
06:19but he has got around 60 points to close in on Lata, three GPs got a chance of doing that,
06:24but yeah, Zanotz confirmed he is not going to the final two rounds.
06:28So, Ferez with another fastest lap, 1.56.829, on the Triumph at the moment.
06:34Three seconds clear now of Sasha Coonan, and actually it was interesting,
06:40obviously for those who are avid viewers of MXGP TV, you know that we do Behind the Gate,
06:45which is a series that kind of documents in a highlight kind of form, but goes a little bit
06:51behind the scenes with interviews and things like that. This normally comes out on our MXGP TV channel
06:55on a Tuesday. The latest one that is out at the moment is the Rocky Rogue. We're currently working
06:59on the new issue that is out on Tuesday. We had Davide DiCali in talking about the team and the
07:04chances, and obviously talking about Lucas and Sasha. Try and get through this as quick as I can,
07:09and we were talking about that whole scenario of like, it's going to be interesting over the next three
07:13rounds, three riders separated by 37 points, and neither of these top three riders have been in that
07:18position before. And he said, this is where a team manager comes in. That's where he said they did
07:22the work on Langenfelder to help him, you know, go through that process. So that's where Sasha
07:27Coonan is going to be relying on Davide DiCali, Claudio DiCali, everybody else. Lucas Coonan,
07:31if he's in a shout in Australia going into that final round, he'll need his brother there in the
07:35wings as well. And that's a scenario that he said may happen if that's the case. So the psychology
07:41behind the scenes that they may not come out and say publicly, you know, is very kind of
07:47much scrutinized by media and us who had that first-hand trivia information. Yeah, absolutely.
07:52And yeah, like you said, the interesting thing was how much he helped Simon last year in his battle
07:56with Kaida Wolf, who of course had been there before. So yeah, interesting to see his notes on
08:01Simon Langenfelder, how much he helped. And in terms of Lucas Coonan, he is not here this weekend
08:05to help out his brother. He might well be flying out to Australia if Sasha has a chance for the
08:09title,
08:09just to help him out. Everts here in third, about a second and a half down on Sasha Coonan.
08:15And lap times between those two, Everts was about three or four tenths quicker, 57.5 Sasha Coonan,
08:215.81 if you like, 57.42. So a tenth in the end.
08:26Langenfelder still with his hands full with Camden McClellan. That's coming into view now into that turn
08:31as they go by, just as we follow Everts on the Nestaan Hasvana. He's coming into a rich vein
08:37of form at the moment is Liam Everts, isn't he? Because obviously he's had a couple of race wins
08:41now. He's had a couple of podiums in recent rounds. And of course, in terms of the qualifying
08:47and things like that, you know, things are going well for him in general.
08:51Yeah, on two out of the three races at Arnhem. And yeah, Liam Everts, a winner in the GP back
08:56here in 2023.
08:58And only one, only qualifying race here in 2024. Fifth last year. But he is the sort of rider that
09:04is
09:04a headache for McClellan because he's a good starter. Great technique, great speed, obviously. But if
09:08McClellan starts behind him. Oh, is he? Oh, no. No, no, no, no. It's all right.
09:15McClellan starts behind him. It's going to be tough for him to overtake Everts from here. And that's just
09:19another rider in between costing him points on the top two. The only good scenario in all of this is
09:25the fact that it's only one point between each rider. The top 10 riders score points. 10 for the win,
09:30one point for 10th. And obviously, single points down into, you know, so like 10, 9, 8, 7, 6,
09:35single increments. But it's Perez who will take the 10 points at the moment. And even though he is 2
09:41.8,
09:41nearly three seconds clear of Sasha Kunin, he will only gain a point over his closest rival. He will take
09:46it from
09:4625 to 26. Over the course of the weekend in Arnhem, two weekends ago, he came in 25 points clear.
09:52And after
09:53all was said and done, quality a couple of races, he gained one point. And that is a crucial point
09:58to be gained because it's put him one race win clear. This will put him more than one race win
10:02clear if he stays where he is. Yeah, exactly what Perez needed. But this track itself looks like they
10:07have, well, we spoke earlier about how heavily it was watered. It looks gnarlier, rougher, more rutted
10:13around the whole circuit than I would say I've seen it before. Kunin responding. He's put in a
10:19fastest lap. Okay, all by it. Three hundredths of a second here. He goes 156.816. Perez,
10:2556.842. The gap only 3.1 now. But even still, if the pit board goes out you fastest, they're
10:33the
10:33kind of comments that you believe from your pit group. Yes, they can say it to sort of like try
10:38and
10:38G you up. But, you know, it does work anyway in the most, in the most cases. Julius Miekela is
10:43up into
10:43ninth. He's found his way past Xanotz. So the two privateer KTMs, if you like, Julius Miekela on
10:49the Ositschka KTM or Xanotz on the Venrui KTM. They are now nine and ten. Scott Smulders is in 11th
10:55place. And of course, he was on our studio show earlier today as one of the guests. We threw him
11:01back to
11:012015 when he was EMX 65 European champion. Showed him a little bit of footage when it was held in
11:08Latvia. And then on the podium was Martin Van Hoda was one of the riders and kind cars makers.
11:14So we've seen these two little 65 year old kids on the podium. All smiles and all the rest of
11:19it.
11:19But very cute pictures they were for sure. Anyway, KTM looking on. Kuhn in second. Langenfelder in fourth.
11:27Langenfelder three seconds behind Evertz now. Two seconds clear of Camden McClellan. And McClellan
11:32probably just thinking the usual after a qualifying race need the starts because in a 20 minute plus
11:37two, 25 minute race, that's not his forte. The forte is the longer race, the fitness, the rough,
11:42the terrain, you know, when the terrain is rough and rugged. The Sal on the tunnel there just
11:47keeping an eye on his Triumph boys in first and fifth. Camden knows that gate pick number five,
11:53which is what he is staring at at the moment is exactly what Guillaume used to get his strong
11:58position. He was second around the first corner behind Sasha and then made that aggressive move.
12:02But there is the title picture. Yeah, like you say, one point above a single race win. So that gives
12:07you a little bit of extra breathing room in case something goes wrong. But the point's going out
12:11the wrong way for Camden McClellan in this qualifying race at the moment. And whilst he's been very,
12:16very strong in the sand in recent races and just in general, can't afford to be sort of too
12:23slack here this weekend if he is to put himself in that position going into Australia the final round.
12:28But this is only Turkey, round 17, you know, three races with points at each round. So that's
12:34another nine races, including this one, that these guys have to race for that title fight.
12:40People going out there, I believe it was to Everett saying need more. So they're urging Liam on to try
12:45and
12:46get in a hole up to Sasha there in seven and a half minutes left, plus two laps, of course,
12:51at this race.
12:53Ferez has looked solid though, hasn't he? Back to Sweden sort of form, sorry, back to Czech Republic
12:58form, I should say. Sweden perhaps not, but... Well, I mean, even Portugal he was good,
13:03South Africa he was good, Great Britain he was good, you know, won ones in all of those three rounds.
13:07He was one two in Czech Republic, but obviously got the win there as well. So just he... It's difficult
13:15to kind of explain it, but when you watch him corner and things like that, nothing sort of looks out
13:19of
13:19place. He hits everything, he doesn't rush anything and it's smooth and consistent lap after lap after
13:23lap. And they're the kind of things that look tense here and there that are making the difference.
13:28Yeah, it might only be 2.4, 2.5 seconds, but you know, he's smooth, he's consistent.
13:34And I just wonder how much of that has come from his kind of grounding in the US when he
13:40was there,
13:40you know, obviously, yeah, training for Supercross, you have to be precise, you have to be perfect out
13:45of those corners because you need that drive for the double, the triple, the tabletop, whatever it is.
13:49And I think it's those little things he's learned from there that he's bringing here and sort of,
13:53you know, improving his outdoor skills at the same time. I think I noticed the big difference
13:56between himself and his teammate there, Paul, is how far forward on the bike Ferez is. Camden,
14:00obviously a bigger rider, he's naturally a bit further back in the seat, but Ferez all over the
14:04front of the bike and that certainly helps to keep the bike low when you get to these jumps,
14:08and especially on a circuit like this. So yeah, different horses for courses as always, but Ferez
14:13making it work for himself. But he's got the DeSalle kind of look, hasn't he? The low bars,
14:17the low levers and everything else very close to him in terms of the cockpit. So it looks like he
14:22may
14:22have a slightly lower sort of triple clamp in there as well. Everything is just that little bit
14:26smaller, more compact. Yeah, whatever it is, it works for him. But it might not necessarily work for
14:31his taller, bigger teammate, who will have a different front end setting ever so slightly.
14:36Yeah, Camden needs a bit more room than that. So he has to have a different setup. It seems
14:40obviously still fast and no issues there, but at the moment Ferez pulling away.
14:46Right, Xanotz and Smulders fighting over 10th place. Of course, Xanotz not riding at 100%, still has a
14:52slight knee issue that he's riding around as best he can. So not a true reflection of maybe what he
14:58can
14:58do in MX2. So I think part of the reason is not to go to China and Australia is just
15:04try and get
15:05everything taken care of as soon as possible and start building for 2027. Yeah, because that's
15:09all he can do really and come out swinging, having had that sort of rookie season in the class.
15:15Yeah, speaking to Klaas Hatton, the Venroy KTM team manager for the Behind the Gate interview
15:19this weekend and saying that he's kind of waiting on the whole KTM setup team to see, you know,
15:25what happens, which ride is going to go where. I can't confirm anything. I think it's likely that
15:29Xanotz will stay in Orange, just depends on which team. So yeah, he's still got a future in this sport,
15:34but it's probably not been the sort of rookie season he would have wanted.
15:39And Scott Smulders there in that 11th, had a fantastic Grand Prix at home in Arnhem a couple
15:45of weekends ago. He was 10th in the qualifier and then he got a 9th, 10th for 9th overall on
15:51the Sunday.
15:52So yeah, that was pretty good going for Scott Smulders.
15:57Yeah, his first appearance even here. He hasn't even raced an EMX at this venue. So
16:02a first look at this Affion track for the Dutchman.
16:07Altitude, bit of heat, bit of humidity and all the rest of it.
16:12Anyway, he'll enjoy his time here, I'm sure.
16:15Right, let's take a look at the screen then. Koonin was fastest in sector one.
16:18Ferez was fastest in sector two on lap seven. We are now on lap eight.
16:22The gap 2.6 between Ferez and Koonin at the head of the field.
16:26Evert's another 2.2. It's gone to three now as they hit the finish line.
16:32Just a moment ago.
16:36Or the end of sector one, I should say.
16:39And I'll tell you what, there was a mistake there from Xanotz and
16:43and Smulders had to react quickly there because he was aiming for the same run as Xanotz.
16:48And then all of a sudden he had to quick think on his feet, go left at the last minute.
16:52Otherwise
16:52there'd be a heap of scrap metal and a couple of bruised bodies in that turn.

17:01This was very close here. As he goes in, he realized that he was just making that mistake.
17:05He already committed anyway, but it was just would have been a lot closer had he followed him in.
17:10Good ride that, good vision from Smulders on the 408. Now moves up in a ten.
17:13Almost looked like indecision from Xanotz, wasn't it Paul? He wasn't quite sure whether to take the
17:17middle or that far inside one and he just got hung up a little bit and yeah, cost him that
17:21vital time.
17:24So Nolsanotz in orange. And the other rider on orange here, Sasha Kunin, 3.3 seconds down on Ferez.
17:32Ferez continues to lead. Here he is, championship leader, qualifying race leader as well.
17:37We've got Sasha Kunin, right, Evers is getting closer, 1.8, it was 2.2 not so long ago.
17:43And with about two and a half minutes plus two laps to go as Ferez hits the line any moment
17:47now.
17:48He gets between him and Conin and his up to 3.2 seconds.
17:52Things looking good for the Spaniard and he knows as long as he's ahead of Kunin, ahead of Cameron
17:57McClellan, his teammate, doesn't matter if it's just by one position. In a quality race, that's one point.
18:02If you are directly ahead of the guy closest to you, if it's the race on Sunday, the first and
18:07the second,
18:08the difference can be three points and so on and so on. So it's he knows in his mind that
18:13he doesn't
18:13need to rush anything here as long as he can manage what's happening around him, then that's
18:18fine. Carlos Racelis here under a bit of pressure from Maxim Gros. Gros on the 83, Maddy Racing,
18:26Honda Italia, ABF Italia machine. He fell in that corner in free practice this morning,
18:32gets it right this time as he makes his move on Carlos Racelis and moves up into that seventh place.
18:37Just asking too much too early in the free practice when it was very muddy through there.
18:42Front counter came up out of the rut and then it went down, just tipped him over, simple error,
18:45but this time he gets it to perfection. Runs him hot as he goes double and carries the momentum
18:51to the outside. Carlos Racelis just a little too defensive and was three bike lengths behind going
18:58in, three bike lengths coming out on the way out. Yeah and that'll put Maxim in his career best
19:03qualifying race if he finishes like this. Eighth so far has been his very best and yeah this one would
19:08just go that one step up further. So Gros then into seventh
19:16for that Maddy Honda Racing, ABF Italia team
19:22as Guillaume Perez continues to hover around three, three and a half seconds clear of his closest
19:27pursuer, Sacha Kunin, on the Red Bull KTM. They modified this part of the track overnight this
19:32morning. This was a huge step up onto the third plateau there that he took off on and it looked
19:38like you could probably triple onto that and then double or triple your way over but then that's
19:42obviously been tapered back ever so slightly. So now you've got the riders pretty much double on,
19:47double over, double off. There's no real gains to be made there and yeah not sure why that decision
19:55was made maybe a safety feature or something like that but it looked impressive to start with and
19:59definitely had a few riders scratching the heads on track walk on Friday. I think it's going to be
20:03possible on a 450 maybe for the next no no no no it's it's it's just done uh it's pretty
20:07much yeah
20:08just double on over and double off but Evertz just the guy ahead of him is Sacha Kunin still about
20:161.4
20:161.5 maybe 1.8 seconds we'll get a split here as they jump around the turn where Sacha Kunin
20:22is now
20:232.2 so a good response from Sacha Kunin. These two pretty much uh back and forth yo-yo in
20:28in fact
20:34Witten just starting to pick up as well you see when Evertz gets on the gas and that dry dirt
20:38just
20:38getting flicked from left to right when they come into land so uh it was kind of breezy last night
20:46wasn't it at the rider opening ceremony the dark clouds on those mountains over there we thought
20:51we were going to be in a direct line but it was teasing us a little bit where it was
20:55kind of
20:55swirling around across behind where we are now and we thought any moment now it's going to change
21:01direction we're going to get landed on here but everything was fine but the wind was starting to
21:05pick up as we probably left the circuit shortly after that yeah for last year's opening ceremonies
21:09were kind of cut short because of a sandstorm that hit the entire area and uh yeah it looked like
21:14it
21:14just blew slightly past us so we were all uh counting our blessings on that one because uh it's all
21:19out
21:19there very nice all very well uh well laid out with all the uh catering they put on all the
21:23politicians
21:24present uh the stage this year has been improved for sure but um yeah definitely uh keen not to have
21:29a
21:29sandstorm mess it up like it did last year yeah one of the uh attractions for this mxgp of turkey
21:34is
21:35moto fest where we get uh literally i would say up to sort of around about 10 000 a night
21:43sort of
21:43in and around the venue absolutely absolutely packed for live concerts and all kinds of stuff going on and
21:49paddock life you know uh stalls and eateries and things like that you know knick-knack shops and whatever
21:55else and there's so much going on there's riding instruction things going on in the middle there's
21:59all kinds of things you can imagine at some kind of festival yeah it seems to be like a full
22:04-on
22:04music festival minus the camping i don't know where everybody stays all the cars just fill up then
22:08they just disappear well moto fest they sleep in the cars there it is and of course no drink driving
22:13so
22:14that's uh that's what we're uh have to deal with but uh yeah it's uh definitely a massive event that
22:19goes on all around this gp that weekend two to go then for gian ferez and the
22:27triumph racing mx2 factory team rider working his way towards turn five this left-hander here
22:32still with about a two and a half second advantage just takes a casual look over the shoulder not a
22:37nervous one because i think he knows he's got this one in the kind of under the belt if you
22:42like
22:44everything in control outside you can triple this here we'll probably see that in the 450s a little
22:48bit later on but uh he's gone outside inside the shortest route through at this point here that's
22:52the end of the sector for him there sector two so he's gone through 31.5 31.5 kunan pulls
22:58a little
22:59bit back in the first part there 31.3 and also in the second sector so 2.4 so is
23:04there going to be a
23:05last couple of that charge last lap and a half charge here for sasha kunan as he goes after the
23:09qualifying race win here remember we went five on the bounce in the first five rounds got another one in
23:16latvia that was uh six for his six quality wins of the season so far
23:26and sasha kunan here who did get a whole shot right at the start of this race
23:30by the time we got out of turn five onto the monster jump turn six
23:33he went to the inside ferez slotted in around the outside of him and that was the pass on the
23:38opening
23:39lap between the top two in the championship who were reverse positions
23:43on the way into that corner they're in championship position heading out of the turn
23:46ferez and kunan their first and second yeah that was a boss move right across the bows of the belgian
23:52and uh yeah just giving him no option you had to shut the throttle off or he's going to be
23:56as you say
23:56scrap metal so yeah guillem in uh dominant mood at the moment keen to reassert himself he's not been in
24:02this winning position for a few gps since that big crash in the qualifying race in sweden so yeah this
24:07is
24:07doing him an absolute power of good to kick off the final trilogy of gps into the final lap then
24:14three and a half seconds intact kunan knows that uh he might be forcing himself over the limit to try
24:21and close that down which is why he's maybe backed it off he was just over a second he was
24:26about eight
24:27tenths nine tenths clear of everts a moment ago but it's now pulled that to 1.3 at the end
24:32of sector
