00:40And that early aggression again from Ferez, we've seen it time and time again.
00:44If he's not hole-shotting, he's making instant passes, and he's straight up into the front now.
00:48Langenfelder, exactly the person he wants behind him, because he knows Langenfelder and Evertz,
00:53second and third, that's perfect for Ferez over and ahead of the two people he needs to make points on,

01:22who tries to nudge his way up the inside of his fellow countryman.
01:24Evertz, a nervous look over the shoulder from the man in white, trying to hold on to that third place.

01:36When we hit the finish line, we turn left onto the start straight,

01:42So a lot of moving and shaking in and around on this opening unofficial lap.

01:50Going to be parked back there, though, in that fourth place,
01:52and it's Ferez who hits the line ahead of Langenfelder, Evertz third, Sascha Kunin fourth,
01:55and then the triumph of number eight, Camden McClellan fifth.

02:13who is looking forward to HomeGP next weekend,
02:15and he's got something to race for,
02:17and they'll have something to cheer for next week if he carries on like this.
02:20Yeah, no stranger to this place.
02:21He came and did the last two rounds last year, did Byron Dennis.
02:25And obviously now having done sort of three EMX 250 rounds,
02:29a couple of ADAC rounds,
02:30and finishing fourth in the Australian MX2 Championship this year
02:34behind his teammate Dylan Walsh in that MX2 competition,
02:36category.
02:37Looks like he's come here a little bit better prepared.
02:40He said as much in the studio show as well, remember.
02:43So he knows what to expect from these flyaways.
02:46Sacha Kunin knows to expect from Simon Langenfelder.
02:49How difficult will the German make it for the 19 to find his way past?
02:52Because Langenfelder, yeah, he's 80 points off,
02:55but he's 20 points off at third place Sacha Kunin.
02:58So at least he'll want to try and finish with a bronze medal.
03:00And he's in that position at the moment.
03:02Kunin fighting the front end in that left-hander.
03:04How he stayed up there, I have no idea,
03:06but he was just wishing for slightly longer legs there in that left-hander.
03:11Eventually he got himself propped up, but watch this.

03:22But it's Ferez who controls the lead.
03:24I was going to say, it's about a second, but it's less than that now.

03:34He's got a little bit of pink and yellow in there in the kit this weekend.
03:41Yeah, there's been fantastic interpretations of that trend this week.
03:44And, yeah, you can see Langenfelder giving everything there.
03:46But Sascha Kunin on the charge.
03:48He knows what's at stake.
03:49He has to beat Ferez.
03:50And, of course, he won the qualifying race here last year.
03:53And they are getting closer together, Paul.
03:54The two KTMs catching in on Ferez.
03:57I'll tell you what, out of that turn two over the liquid molly jump.
03:59From that inside, swinging to the outside is where you're getting all those hard edges
04:03as the ground starts to slick up towards the takeoff.
04:06And Sascha Kunin there just drifting too far left.
04:08Looked like he was going to get pitched.
04:10It looked like he rolled off the throttle just to sort of flop over the top of the crest
04:13and then get back on the gas then once his wheels were in line.
04:16He's set the fastest lap at the end of that opening lap.
04:18Not by much, six, seven tenths of a second.
04:20But he's got himself right back into contention.
04:22The first three separated by about two seconds, maybe even less than that.
04:25There's Ferez, Langenfelder, and Sascha Kunin battle over the top three positions.
04:31Evertz now down in fourth place as Kunin went through a moment ago.
04:35Looks like we've had a couple of folders as well.
04:36Fruccio Zanke's gone down the order somewhat now.
04:39We're just yet to cross the timing beam, actually, 15th, I think it is.
04:42And Karnas Rezlis also dropping out of the top ten.
04:45So that lifts up Groh, Mikula, and Karsmakers into that top ten.
04:48Were they together, actually, Karnas Rezlis and Fruccio Zanke?
04:52I wonder if they just had a bit of a love tap going on in one of the corners,
04:55both riders going down or certainly coming to a halt.
04:59But either way, not ideal for the returning Fruccio Zanke,
05:03who's going to be going on the line in 16th place,
05:04which, to be fair, is not the end of the road,
05:07but also for Karnas Rezlis, who is now down in that 11th place.
05:10Points on the line in the races as well, remember.
05:1310th for the first place, down to one point for 10th place.
05:17And for someone like Karnas Rezlis, who is, you know, currently sort of operating in that 7th place,
05:22he can't find his way onto his brother because that gap is 105 points down.
05:26He'll need a miracle to try and overhaul him in 6th.
05:29But he's, yeah, pretty much done and dusted in that 7th place, isn't he?
05:33Yeah, that's it. Yeah, the two riders are kind of stuck there, 6th and 7th.
05:36Not an awful lot they can do, but many points in front and behind them.
05:39So, yeah, they are kind of there.
05:41Karnas has gone through the timing beams, though.
05:43He's just a second shy of cars makers, but Zanke has not.
05:46So it doesn't look like the Ducati man has, sadly.
05:51It doesn't look like he's completed his second lap there.
05:54May have just gone into pit lane because, well, he did go through Zanke,
05:58went through the final sector because that's the finish line.
06:01So we'll just keep an eye on his first sector.
06:03But he may have gone into pit lane for a bit of a, you know,
06:08modification here or there, a bit of a running repair.
06:12But we'll see. Keep an eye on that because we're only down to sort of Brian Giles,
06:1513th at the moment. He's still yet to go through sector 1 as well.
06:19Meanwhile, on screen, this is your lead trio heading down out of turn 8.
06:25Over the single there.
06:26So we're now into sector 3, Perez, with about a second still over Simon Langenfelder.
06:31Wasn't a good GP overall for Kieran Perez last year.
06:34Wasn't he 6 or 7 overall? Something like that.
06:37And obviously, now that he's leading the championship,
06:39he's coming here expecting to do well on the tracks that maybe were his bogey tracks
06:43last year.
06:44And his return to MX2 in his first full season in MX2, of course,
06:47having spent a couple of years in America,
06:50and a couple of years injured on and off and things like that.
06:52But talk about sort of learning as he went along.
06:55Learned all the tracks last year.
06:57And he's come out firing right from the get-go this year.
07:01And here he is leading the championship with 50 points over his teammate.
07:04There is Cameron McClellan and his teammate, number 8,
07:06who again hasn't made the best start.
07:08He finds himself in fifth, struggling to find his way past the likes of Evertz.
07:11And obviously, Coonan, who is now on the rear wheel of Perez and Langenfelder,
07:15challenging for second, maybe even a race win.
07:17Yeah, McClellan showed exactly the pace he's got there in time practice,
07:21brought it out from nowhere to claim that pole position.
07:24But, yeah, to your point there about Perez there, Paul,
07:27seventh overall last year, eight, six races,
07:29fifth in the quality race, though, and, of course,
07:31that does reward a good start.
07:32And that's the problem for Camden McClellan,
07:34just simply unable to make the best of getting out of the gate.
07:38Eleventh in last year's qualifying race, a prime example.
07:41Well, Samuel Langenfelder, quickest on track at the moment.
07:44Last time around, 1.45.02.
07:46There's only, what, three, four riders in the 45s?
07:49That's Perez and Langenfelder, first and second.
07:51Everts and McClellan in fourth and fifth.
07:53Coonan lost a bit of time that time around, 1.46.1.
07:57Dennis has got Giannis Reyes, this less than a second behind him,
08:00so those two are close for fifth.
08:01But we're concentrating, of course, on this battle.
08:03This is fourth place over at McClellan.
08:05This is championship points.
08:06He would lose four more to Perez,
08:08meaning he can only lose six tomorrow,
08:11which would be disastrous for him.
08:14And, obviously, yeah, put him out of the championship contention.
08:18Evans, who's in a good run of form at the moment.
08:21Podium's the last three rounds.
08:22Would love to get on the podium.
08:23Wants to get out of the qualifying race, first of all, though.
08:26And in terms of his qualifying races,
08:29he has had the one-quality win.
08:30That was in Arnhem a couple of rounds ago.
08:35He has pretty much scored in every qualifying race this year, hasn't he?
08:40In fact, he has scored in every qualifying race this year.
08:42113 points he has.
08:45McClellan trying to get up the inside of Evertz.
08:48The Belgian denying him, though, a route through.
08:52Campbell losing a lot of time then over that Dragon's Back section.
08:55Unable to double in, which really does cost you,
08:57especially on the 250s there.
08:59Dennis has relinquished that seventh place to Janic Resilis.
09:02So the Latvian pass in the Aussie,
09:04but he's got two seconds over Groh back in eighth.
09:06Then it's Mikula and Karsmekers.
09:07Karsmekers still Karsmekers holding off Karnas Resilis there.

09:14at the Oriental Beauty Valley MXGP of China here in Shanghai.
09:21Ryder looking beautiful there himself in seventh position is Byron Dennis,
09:25but he's just been passed by the Monster Energy Yamaha of Janis Resilis.
09:29Resilis now up in the sixth place.
09:31It's about four seconds down on Camden McClellan in fifth.
09:34But it's been a good season, hasn't it, for the MX2 rookie.
09:37Janis Resilis, he's had some, what,
09:40three fastest laps in time practice over the course of the year.
09:43He's had some decent rides,
09:45got a second in Germany in the qualifying race.
09:47This was Resilis going past Dennis a moment ago.
09:50Dennis was middle of the track,
09:52probably knew that Janis Resilis was there.
09:53He could have gone to the inside,
09:54but he just fenced him off to the outside
09:57just to make sure that was how Resilis found his way past Dennis into sixth.
10:01Yeah, needless to say, Janis as a rookie,
10:03never been to China before,
10:04certainly not for racing purposes anyway.
10:06So, yeah, this one is first showing,
10:08and good to see him up in the top six again.
10:15Fastest park segments of the circuit there, Grom.
10:17In fact, it's fastest in the first sector,
10:19in the eighth place there,
10:20but McClellan, in his attempts to get past Everts,
10:24fastest to ball in the second sector of this lap.
10:26Working our way towards the end of that five.
10:28Perez is now 2.2 seconds clear of this battle for second place.
10:32The two Rebel KTMs, same name, different garage,
10:35Simon Langenfelder, Sasha Kunin,
10:37the German versus the Belgian.
10:38Of course, Langenfelder, the defending champion,
10:42will continue to hold that number play
10:43all the way to the end of the season anyway,
10:45no matter what,
10:45but he has a new pretender to the throne
10:49in the form of Guillem-Farrez,
10:50and Guillem-Farrez,
10:51what a season he's having at the moment.
10:54Yeah, it's evidence there
10:55when we're looking at the numbers
10:56and seeing how it all plays out,
10:58who would win a tiebreaker,
10:59well, even now,
11:00with four Sunday races still to go,
11:02and those are the key points in a tiebreak.
11:04He is 13 wins over Sasha in eight,
11:08so nobody can beat him on a tiebreak,
11:10and that makes his life just a little bit easier.
11:12Yeah, he doesn't want to worry about that, though.
11:14If you're going into Australia thinking about that,
11:16then you know something happened drastically wrong here.
11:18At the moment, he's going quite well for it,
11:20Guillem-Farrez.
11:21But they had good pace in the free practice
11:23and the qualifying practice,
11:24both of them,
11:25Perez and McClellan.
11:28So, too, did the two KTMs,
11:30but these two just tripping each other up at the moment,
11:32although the gap is coming back down
11:34towards Perez
11:34because Langenfelder now 1.4 a drift.
11:37It was just slightly over two seconds, wasn't it?
11:39So it just seems like Guillem-Farrez at the moment
11:41just gets comfortable,
11:42just maybe does enough to stay there,
11:44just backs it off,
11:44and then all of a sudden the gap comes back towards him
11:47with Langenfelder pressing.
11:49It's now a second,
11:49and there is that gap between first, second,
11:52and second, and third.
11:53It's around about two seconds now
11:54as they work our way towards the end of the lap.
11:56There's Pit Lane,
11:57and just on the face of that blue jump
11:58in the background there with the blue bridge,
12:00that is the end of Sector 3,
12:01so we'll get our latest update
12:02between Perez-Langenfelder,
12:04which was 1.005,
12:06and 2.3 back to third,
12:07which was 1.7,
12:08so a good response from Perez.
12:10Easy to make a mistake here in these conditions
12:12because what we don't see,
12:13while it looks nice and sort of grippy and tacky
12:16and a lot of moisture in the dirt in places like that,
12:19there's also a lot of hard slick
12:20and dry rolling sort of marbles now starting up here,
12:23and little naturally exits on turns
12:26like what we just saw there from Langenfelder,
12:27who's now putting himself under pressure here.
12:29He goes for one of those deep ruts.
12:31There was a massive look back there.
12:32Was there a sort of hand signal as well?
12:34I don't know,
12:35but Sascha Kunin had a cleaner run out of that turn,
12:38and now he's all over the back of Langenfelder,
12:40challenging for second as we move into lap seven.
12:45Langenfelder goes defensive.
12:47Sascha Kunin,
12:47he'll go to the outside here,
12:48and he can get the distance,
12:49and he does jump the step up,
12:51or the little tabletop.
12:53He moves into second.
12:54Saw a couple of riders rehearse that move
12:57earlier in time practice
12:57and pre-practice this morning
12:58when I was stuck on top of the veranda,
13:00just behind there on the building.
13:04And I thought, yeah,
13:05if somebody gets a good run around the outside
13:07and the rider on the inside,
13:09in this case Langenfelder's position,
13:10doesn't try to block the move to the left-hand side,
13:13then you're going to leave yourself vulnerable,
13:14and that's exactly what happened there.
13:15Kunin goes through.
13:16He now goes after Perez.
13:18Watch it again here.
13:19Look how defensive Langenfelder was.
13:21Back end moving around here,
13:22and Kunin was committed.
13:25Langenfelder knew it was happening.
13:26Couldn't do anything about it.
13:27It was just a sitting duck in the end,
13:28and that was easy.
13:29for the 19 to find his way past Langenfelder.
13:32Yeah, Dan, if you do,
13:33or Dan, if you don't there,
13:34if you had gone to the outside,
13:35of course, Sascha would have dived straight
13:36for that inside line to take the pass.
13:38So in the end, slightly defensive,
13:39and it stepped out on the exit,
13:41which cost Langenfelder the chance
13:42to make that double.
13:43Sascha stepping out, as I said,
13:45the words going into that corner there,
13:46skittling loose here,
13:47but here McClellan,
13:48who set the fastest lap of all,
13:50just the lap on the last lap,
13:52lap six,
13:53and he is now still chasing down Evertz.
13:55Less than a second between third,
13:56fourth, and fourth, and fifth.
13:57So these top riders are condensing together
14:01as Langenfelder hitting the wall here slightly,
14:03maybe?
14:03Evertz right on him now.

14:05looking like he's hitting the wall,
14:06or he's maybe got arm pump

14:09sort of six laps in
14:10seems a little bit strange,

14:12maybe just one or two little errors.
14:15He's put himself under pressure
14:15and all of a sudden
14:16just tightening up a little
14:17because the way that
14:19Coonan went by him a moment ago,
14:20that was way too easy for him
14:22to be able to do that.

14:24looking to force his way
14:25down the inside of Evertz.

14:29McClellan will get the run,
14:30and he does move up into four
14:31at the start of lap eight.
14:34Good ride there.
14:35Good patient riding this

14:37but he can't afford to be patient.
14:38That's the problem
14:39if he wants a real shot
14:40at this championship.
14:41He needs every single point
14:42that he can get.
14:43That includes
14:43in the qualifying races on Saturday.
14:45He will gain a point there
14:46and move to a seven-point position
14:49instead of a six-point position.
14:51Can he now go after the vulnerable?

14:54ahead of him in third place.
14:55He'll be hoping so,
14:56but can he then do anything
14:58about Coonan
14:58if he finds his way there?
14:59Because at the moment,
