The Destroy all Monsters Melee Remaster comes out in a little over 2 months now, which means its right around the corner. And there is a lot to be excited for, the game does really look great.

Fans have been asking for a remaster for YEARS now, so we can revisit these classics, in a time when not many Godzilla games are actually releasing.. BUT… there are some pretty major issues when it comes to this remaster. Which i felt like i had to address early, because there is still time for Pipeworks to fix this. What are the issues? Well lets go through them in todays video. Welcome to DangerVille!

00:12our fundraiser.
00:13If you can't donate, please share to spread the cause.
00:17Thank you once again residents.
00:21Welcome home resident, It's your mayor Alistair here with some more Godzilla mayhem,
00:25because the Destroy All Monsters Melee Remaster comes out in a little over two months now,
00:30which basically means it's right around the corner.
00:33And there is a lot to be excited for, the game does really look great.
00:37Jacob and I are massive fans of the original, it was one of the first games I ever played on
00:42the GameCube,
00:43and I absolutely fell in love with it.
00:46I spent hours on Adventure Mode, and challenging each of my friends to tournaments in Versus,
00:50and of course, flattened cities in Destruction Mode.
00:53To say it has a very special place in my heart, would be an understatement.
00:58So of course, fans have been asking for a remaster for years now,
01:01so we can revisit these classics, in a time when not many Godzilla games are actually releasing.
01:07Hell, the last proper one was in 2014 with the PS4 game.
01:10And while Gigabashed features Godzilla DLC, it's just not the same as a full Godzilla focused game.
01:16So seeing the trailers and gameplay for the remaster,
01:19is igniting neurons that haven't been activated for quite some time now.
01:22But, there are some pretty major issues when it comes to this remaster,
01:27which I felt I had to address early, because there is still time for Pipeworks to fix this.
01:32Now remember, I only bring up these issues because I love the game so much,
01:36and want them to be as good as they can be.
01:39If this one doesn't perform well, we might not see remasters of Save the Earth, or Unleashed,
01:43so the game needs to hit a home run right out of the gates.
01:47So what are the issues?
01:49The issues are 65% if you aren't subscribed.
01:51So do it, or else I'm gonna set Godzilla loose on your home.
01:55But in all seriousness, I had problems with the very first thing you see in that second trailer,
02:01Godzilla 2000's design.
02:03Because what is going on here?
02:05Why does he look like a pickle?
02:07He looks like Mega Mindzilla.
02:09He has such an enlarged forehead that is just not present on the actual Godzilla 2000 suit,
02:14or even the original game.
02:16Most of the models look great, especially Destroyer,
02:19but Millennium Goji really needs some serious work.
02:23But what do you think?
02:24Does it bother you?
02:25Let us know in the comments below.
02:27But I think that complaint can be said for most of the art style for the game.
02:30It's a complete 180 from the aesthetics of the original.
02:34The original presents itself with this grounded, earthy, fiery visual style,
02:39something that represents the idea that these monsters are so massive
02:42that they tear up the very foundation of the earth.
02:45It gave the game just a more real feel to it.
02:48But now, if we look at the updated menu for the remaster,
02:52it's been replaced by an entirely flat, boring blue sci-fi aesthetic
02:56that I can only describe as being the complete opposite vibe of the original.
03:00I remember the menu of the original so clearly.
03:03It had such a unique visual identity that perfectly reflected the vicious nature of the game.
03:09And now it's been replaced with...
03:11To be honest, it could be any game.
03:13It literally looks like Gigabash.
03:15And not to say that's a bad menu, it fits that game just fine.
03:18It's just not Destroy All Monsters menu.
03:21Same with the character screen.
03:23Just look at the differences here.
03:25It's honestly made me worry what they'll do to save the earth,
03:28which had this super cool dynamic Godzilla eye
03:31that peered back at you from an underwater base.
03:33If they remastered that game, I worried they'd simplify that as well,
03:37removing any sense of visual identity to help make that game stand out.
03:41The art style for Destroy All Monsters instead looks to be going for a more comic book style
03:46over the semi-realistic look of the original.
03:49And that can be most clearly seen in the effects within the gameplay itself.
03:53Not gonna lie, these effects look terrible.
03:56They are just distracting and look like a huge downgrade to the way they looked originally.
04:01And just look at the atomic breath.
04:03That's appalling.
04:05It doesn't look like superheated radioactive fire.
04:07It looks like Play-Doh.
04:09And look at Ghidorah's gravity beams.
04:12That looks more like gravity spaghetti.
04:13And the rage power-up effect?
04:16Is it broken or something?
04:17It honestly looks awful.
04:19Compare this to the original, which actually felt powerful.
04:23I know they have some time to fix this,
04:25but in the gaming world, two months is not a lot of time,
04:29and right now, there is a lot to fix.
04:32This more comic book style may even carry over into the cutscenes as well.
04:37Remember the original fully rendered Vortak cutscenes,
04:40where he'd announce he's gonna take over Earth and use the monsters against us?
04:43I fear that this new comic book art style
04:46is an excuse to replace those original cutscenes
04:48with new 2D comic book style versions of it.
04:52Now, of course, this is unverified.
04:53I'm just guessing right now.
04:54I'd love to be proven wrong,
04:56and that we do actually get upgraded new pre-rendered cutscenes,
04:59but we have yet to see anything regarding them just yet.
05:03The game just feels kind of rushed,
05:05which is a shame because we've only been asking for it for like over a decade now.
05:09It's not like this isn't something they knew we wanted
05:12and had plenty of time to prepare for.
05:14And while some changes are fine,
05:16in fact, change can be good and honestly improve the game for the better,
05:20such as the new environmental options
05:21where you can change the weather or haze on the map,
05:24which is just great, that's awesome.
05:26But this is still a remaster,
05:28and to those that say,
05:29you're just being blinded by nostalgia,
05:31well, yeah, a little.
05:33This is a remaster.
05:35Its entire existence is fueled on nostalgia.
05:38They're actively hoping people that grew up with these games
05:41want to experience them all over again.
05:43Where change is bad,
05:45at least in this instance,
05:46is the fact they've changed the tone,
05:48art style and visual identity of the remaster
05:51into something more flat and modern,
05:54instead of embracing what made the originals so timeless.
05:57As a fan of Halo,
05:58I've had to unfortunately witness time and time again
06:01what a remaster that loses the soul
06:03and intentions of the original looks like,
06:05and the community was in uproar
06:07for the changes to Combat Evolved's art style,
06:09and in some instances,
06:10it's warranted.
06:11This game needs to understand
06:13why the original was beloved,
06:14instead of actively trying to change it
06:16for a new audience.
06:18However, I do still think it can be fixed.
06:21Blade of the Server on Twitter
06:22even posted some simple changes to the menu
06:24that put it more in line
06:26with that fiery vibe of the original.
06:28This actually feels like a modernized take
06:30on the classic,
06:31instead of completely changing it for,
06:33honestly, no reason.
06:35Apart from to make it more modern and kid-friendly,
06:38like they've Fortnite-fied the original menu.
06:40Those effects can still be improved
06:42to look like actual energy blasts,
06:44especially Ghidorah,
06:45please fix that spaghetti.
06:47And those impact effects can still be modified
06:49to be less in-your-face and jarring.
06:51And with those changes,
06:53we could be left with a winner
06:54that the Godzilla fanbase deserves
06:56after so many years of,
06:58well, nothing.
07:00To end on a positive note,
07:01I'm still looking forward to the game.
07:03In the gameplay department,
07:04it looks great.
07:06The mechanics all look to be intact,
07:07and the game is visually very nice.
07:10And most of the character models
07:11do look excellent.
07:12I'm only critiquing the game
07:14because I love the series
07:15and the original so much.
07:17And I want them to do it justice.
07:19There is a lot to love
07:21about the Destroyer Monsters Remaster,
07:22but if I didn't stay my issues with it,
07:24then we could see similar problems
07:25arrive with Save the Earth,
07:26where its core identity is lost
07:28through these changes,
07:30which I'm sure none of us want to see.
07:32I'm still super happy
07:33that Pipeworks is bringing back
07:34this iconic series
07:35in what I hope is the first
07:37of a new remastered trilogy.
07:39But what do you think?
07:41Would you like to see these changes made?
07:42Or do they just not bother you?
