00:00I do like the head coach of the team standing 10 toes down.
00:02Yeah, I do too.
00:03You know, he made the decision.
00:05The worst thing that you could have happen now
00:07is for him to go up there and be wishy-washy on it
00:10and be like, yeah, well, you know,
00:12we want to make Browns fans happy too,
00:14and maybe we'll get to a point where those fans are happy.
00:16You know, then that's going to sound the bells here at the station,
00:20and we're going to be talking about, well, how long is it going to be
00:22until we see Shador?
00:24And we're already having some of those conversations innately
00:27because we can't be naive to the fact that this is a player
00:30that just hasn't been that good in Deshaun Watson,
00:32but I don't mind that he's standing 10 toes down
00:35and saying that it absolutely does not bother him
00:37that Browns fans didn't support his decision
00:39because now he's got to go out there and coach him.
00:41Like, they've made this bed.
00:42They're going to have to lay in it,
00:44and then the results are going to be what the results are,
00:46and it's going to be up to us to react to all those.
00:48Does it bother you, Browns fans?
00:50Coach just said fans' reactions, nothing to do with his decision.
00:55I think that's the way he has to do it.
00:57Does that phase you?
00:58You got to deal with it?
00:59Absolutely not, said Todd Munkin.
01:02Fans have nothing to do with his decisions.
01:06Is that all right, fans?
01:08I got to be honest.
01:09I think it's absolutely right.
01:11I think it's the way it's supposed to be,
01:12but it's not always something, Nick,
01:15that's going to go over well with people.
01:16It's the old adage, though, Jeff,
01:18and I'm sure you've heard it.
01:20You know, when you start listening to the fans,
01:22it's not going to be long when you're going to be sitting next to them
01:26up there in those stands.
01:28So, you know, look,
01:28and this is a decision that was so wildly unpopular,
01:33because really nobody in Cleveland wants to see Deshaun Watson start.
01:37They're trying to go down there to Florida
01:39and win a couple football games,
01:41and if he feels like the veteran gives them the best chance to do so,
01:44I don't mind the coach of the team standing ten toes down on a decision
01:48before we've seen a game get played yet.
01:51Now, maybe I'll be singing a completely different tune come week four.
01:55Maybe I'll be singing a different tune come week three.
01:57You know, if the stint in Florida doesn't go too hot for the Browns,
02:02sure, I'll then be pounding my fist for them to replace Deshaun Watson
02:06for somebody else.
02:07But right now he made the decision.
02:08I want to see what it looks like.
02:10I don't blame you for that, and we'll find out.
02:13Todd, also very, very happy that it's really hot and steamy today.
02:16And this week, and actually from a football standpoint,
02:20that works out beautifully because in Jacksonville and Tampa,
02:23one of the narratives have been,
02:25boy, it's going to be so hot down there to start the season,
02:27and they're going to get gassed and blah, blah, blah.
02:30Well, this can't do anything but help.
02:32Yeah, two back-to-back days to start September
02:35in a literal heat advisory I think we've got going on right now
02:39in Northeast Ohio.
02:40So they've got a nutrition team.
02:42They've got a health and safety team.
02:44I'm sure everybody's going to be hydrated and safe
02:46and taken care of out there.
02:47But you can't deny it gets your body ready to go for Florida.
02:51Meanwhile, here in the studio, we have windchill advisories.
02:54Dan's in Cleveland.
02:55Hello, Dan.
02:58Dan, you with us?
03:00Hi, Dan.
03:01Hello.
03:02Hi.
03:03Oh, am I on?
03:03Okay.
03:04You are.
03:04Welcome.
03:06Thank you for taking my call.
03:07Well, I don't know if you recall, Jeff,
03:09but I've been talking to you several times over the past month
03:12on the quarterback Gabriel situation.
03:14Yes, we recall.
03:15Okay.
03:16So last Tuesday or Wednesday, I talked to you,
03:19and I partially suggested and then kind of predicted also
03:23that what do we do if Gabriel goes out and tosses two or three touchdowns?
03:30Do you remember that?
03:32Dan, I wrote it down.
03:34Huh?
03:35I wrote it down.
03:36You told me, Dan, I hope you're right.
03:39And you were.
03:41Hey, Dan, no quarterback looked better in the preseason
03:44than Dylan Gabriel.
03:45If you allow me, I just wanted to take that victory lap.
03:48Go ahead.
03:49Just because.
03:50There he's running around.
03:52I see you going.
03:52Let's talk about where we're at now,
03:55because I was disappointed that they put Gabriel on the injured reserve list.
04:00But on the other hand, I know you like Green, and so do I,
04:04as being intriguing, as we shall say.
04:06Okay?
04:07Yeah.
04:07Okay.
04:08Well, they had to save him because there's no way he gets through waivers.
04:11There's just no way.
04:12Well, you know what, though, Dan?
04:14It's weird.
04:15I would think somebody would have claimed him,
04:18but when you see some of the guys who are getting through waivers,
04:21I wonder, you know, maybe he would have made it.
04:24That's the NFL.
04:25You never know, okay?
04:27But here we are.
04:28The bad decision was having Watson, okay, being named the starter.
04:35But they have to do it.
04:37You're dealing some politics here that I don't want to,
04:39I don't think we want to get into it at this point.
04:41But Watson will not be here next year.
04:44So it's not good.
04:46He's not going to be a factor next year.
04:48And I'll predict he'll play himself off the team also.
04:53If Sanders, if he's not the starter now, like you've been saying,
04:56and I've been saying on my end of the line,
04:59is he's not going to be a backup.
05:02He's not a backup guy,
05:03and he ain't going to hang around on a team that's going to make him a backup.
05:07But the Browns won't make him a backup either.
05:08But my final scenario here is that Gabriel is a can't-miss for the next ten years at worst.
05:16As a field general, according to Monken,
05:19he's an accurate passer and can run this team as a backup
05:23until you find that Otto Graham or Johnny Unitas,
05:26which is not in solid gold.
05:30Dan, I agree with you on that.
05:32Dan, congratulations on your victory lap.
05:34Dylan did look great.
05:35I would thank him for the lovely parting.
05:38You can pick up your Samsonite luggage on the way out the door.
05:43Dylan, that's what you get.
05:45That's a pretty good prize.
05:46That's a pretty good giveaway.
05:47That's a nice item.
05:49Dan, Dan's right.
05:51I think Dylan Gabriel's half of football was the best half of football
05:54any quarterback played for the Browns.
05:56Now, you can throw in every, well, he was with these guys
05:59and going against these guys.
06:01None of the quarterbacks went up against good starters.
06:04I think Deshaun for two series against Chicago
06:07might have had some bare starters on the field.
06:10That's the way that goes.
06:12Again, we all know the situation.
06:14We know the scenario.
06:15And it's that none of us think Deshaun Watson has a future beyond this year.
06:20If he does, I think we'd all be stunned,
06:22which brings up the question, then why aren't you playing the other guys?
06:27Which brings up the answer,
06:28because Todd thinks that Deshaun gives you the best chance to win,
06:32at least early on.
06:34He does.
06:34And they've primed us for that, Jeff, for months now.
06:40You know, the way that they handled the preseason,
06:42the way that they were handling the snaps in the last couple of weeks
06:45of this training camp,
06:46like they've been getting us ready for the inevitable,
06:49and that was that they were going to name Deshaun Watson
06:51the starting quarterback.
06:53Obviously, when they did, there was a huge shock.
06:57But Todd, you know, standing behind that decision is the right thing
07:00that he needs to be doing right now until a game is played.
07:03Then when the game is played, see how it looks.
07:06And if it doesn't look great, then you can adjust your plan accordingly.
07:10But they had a plan coming into this season.
07:13I think that plan, when Munkin put pen to paper on the coaching contract,
07:18was that Deshaun was going to start this season on somewhat of a short leash,
07:22and that we'll get to see Shador, we'll probably get to see Dillon at some point,
07:26and by the end of it, who knows if Taylon Green gets to play some games.
07:30Like, that's just how these Brown seasons go.
07:33And until you have a Unitas, like you mentioned there on the phone,
07:36or an Otto Graham, you're going to be looking for one of those guys.
07:40And I don't think any four of the players that I just named
07:43are an Otto Graham or a Johnny Unitas.
07:46I don't think they're even close.
07:48All right, gentlemen, the Browns have made some roster moves official.
07:51Okay.
07:52Are we ready?
07:53All right, we are.
07:55Signed to the active roster, cornerback Noah Igbenomini is defensive,
08:00and Sam Williams also signed to the active roster.
08:03So they're on the 53.
08:04That is correct.
08:05Those gentlemen are on the 53-man roster.
08:07Placed on the reserve injured list is defensive tackle Kayla Davis.
08:11He's dealing with a quad injury.
08:13They have waived Michael Coates Jr.
08:16They have signed Sam Kamara, the defensive tackle, running back.
08:19They brought back Sam.
08:22Running back Jaleel McLaughlin has been side of the practice squad.
08:26From Youngstown State, right?
08:28Yeah, spent the last four seasons with the Denver Broncos.
08:31There's maybe your Dylan Sampson insurance,
08:35because he could play that role really nicely.
08:36A little guy who can really move.
08:38Tight end, Messiah Swinson.
08:40Defensive tackle, Chris Williams, all heading to the practice squad as well.
08:46Nothing on your boy, Jeff.
08:48Dare to dream, Joe Milton's still out there.
08:51I will tell you, I keep refreshing the computer.
08:54Just double-checking.
08:56Anybody sign him yet?
08:57We had any word yet?
08:58The answer is no.
09:00We have yet to have that.
09:01All quiet on the Western front.
09:03On the Joe Milton front.
09:04On the Joe Milton front.
09:05Also, go ahead, Nick.
09:07Meanwhile, I was going to say in Indianapolis,
09:09Chris Ballard did a media availability
09:11and said Anthony Richardson will be a Colt this year.
09:16So they're moving forward with Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones.
09:19You have to come in and just completely ruin my day?
09:21When he wants to tap out because he's tired,
09:24he's going to go up in the stands and sell beer.
09:26He learned.
09:28He learned he didn't want to do that.
09:30All right, so no Anthony Richardson and Joe Milton.
09:33Joe Milton.
09:35No news.
09:36Joe Milton.
09:37He's still my heart.
09:38Jeff is holding on to hope here on a Tuesday afternoon
09:42that maybe the Browns could have some more moves
09:46where Dan just gave us a good shuffle of moves,
09:48not to the amusement of Jeff.
09:50Will Levis still sitting out there sipping mayo-infused coffee.
09:57I'm resigned to the fact that this is our quarterback group for this year.
10:02I'm just resigned to it.
10:04They have four quarterbacks.
10:05I can't imagine them moving on.
10:07But if you – and I think they don't.
10:12Okay, I think they don't because either don't think they can be
10:17or don't care to find out if somebody else might be a guy
10:22who you could develop into your quarterback long term.
10:25Shudor is probably the best opportunity for that at this very moment.
10:29I think Taylor Green is a better candidate for that long term.
10:33Because of Dylan's size, I just – I don't think that's likely,
10:37but I think Dylan runs the offense better than anybody.
10:41But I just see a guy like Joe Milton and I think,
10:44wouldn't you want a look?
10:48Todd Munkin's a quarterback whisperer.
10:50Wouldn't you want a look?
10:52I feel like they're just going to tell themselves that these are our guys.
10:56We've got a game a couple weeks from now,
10:59and we're going to go play that game with the guys that we've got.
11:01That feels like that's the mode that they're in with these quarterbacks
11:05because they had a chance this offseason.
11:07They could have got a Kyler Murray or a Malik Willis,
11:11or they could have drafted Ty Simpson.
11:12They could have done a number of things.
11:14You want to go veteran?
11:15You could have signed Kirk Cousins.
11:16Sure, they could have done anything,
11:17but they decided that these were their guys.
11:21They've made that bed.
11:22They're going to lay in it.
11:23This way.
