00:00Well, you ready to call it?
00:02Should we call it? Have we seen enough?
00:05I don't know. There's a few precincts that are still out,
00:07but I think I might be just ready to call it and...
00:10Ah, what's another week?
00:12I mean, what's another week? What's the hurry?
00:14Still time to stuff the ballot box.
00:16Ah.
00:18What's the hurry, I guess?
00:20But man, it was, uh...
00:21You know, when I'm starting off the show with I guess and things like that,
00:24it's, uh...
00:26Eh, eh, eh, eh, there we are.
00:27Uh, what'd you think?
00:28All together, come on.
00:30Crazy thing is, I had a very low bar.
00:33I had a very, very low bar.
00:35And they still didn't even get to that bar is what you're going to say?
00:37No.
00:38Oh, okay.
00:38The cornerbacks anyway.
00:40Honestly, I, um, in some ways, both of them,
00:44both of them did a little better than I thought they would do.
00:47Really?
00:48Yeah, that was tough because obviously...
00:49Did you think they were just going to not have arms and be able to, like,
00:52they weren't going to be able to hand off or take snaps?
00:55Honestly, for Shador, I mean, for Deshaun, yes.
00:57Deshaun, I had the lowest of low...
01:00Really?
01:00...for the expectation.
01:01See, I...
01:02That part I didn't.
01:03I gotta tell you, I wasn't overwhelmingly surprised with what he did on Saturday.
01:11I wasn't.
01:12And, uh, I'll, I'll, I'll tell you why.
01:15And this is going to go, you know, it's, this is going to get to be intrigue and nastiness.
01:22With him, I, uh, you've been around for nine years.
01:26You're playing against second teamers.
01:28You're playing against base defense.
01:30You should be able to complete decent passes.
01:33Uh, Sam Monson, he, he went into it a little bit.
01:36You know, I know that the, the, the depth of target, but not being afraid to drive the
01:41ball down fields, a feather in the cap for Shador.
01:44But when it comes to Deshaun Watson, you know, there was a little bit of Tim in this.
01:48There's the first time he's played in two years for crying out loud.
01:50I mean, it's been how many days?
01:52Well, over 600 some odd days since he played in the NFL.
01:56That's a long time.
01:57So I think even though, yeah, I want the, I wanted the other guy to win the job.
02:02You, you notice how I said that, by the way, I wanted the other guy to win the job.
02:07Uh, I, I still have to take that into account.
02:09And so part of that, it's still like, Hey, it's going to be basic pitch and catch, go
02:12out there, pitch it.
02:13They're going to catch it.
02:14And, and off you go in the first half.
02:16And basically that's for the most part, that's kind of how it was.
02:20And when I say the wanted part, cause I, I basically feel like, Hey, but I, I, we can play
02:24it out for another week.
02:26Crazy things happen, but I, I think it's basically about a done deal.
02:29Don't you?
02:30In all honesty, I mean, I, I, you, I'm not going to sit here and pound the table for something.
02:35I don't feel to be realistic or anything like that.
02:37I, it just feels to me like, Hey, probably a done deal.
02:41Uh, Shador will be the backup and Sean will be the starter.
02:44And that's the way it's going to go.
02:45Well, especially if you look at what the schedule, I was very, very intrigued.
02:49Like after the game was played, I'm like, all right, the next thing is, let's see what
02:52the schedule is this week.
02:53I thought that was going to be major.
02:55And I think everybody kind of took the, had, had a similar takeaway on, Oh, they're splitting
03:02the reps on Thursday at the joint practice in Buffalo.
03:05And then following that up with, yeah, Shador gets to start that preseason game, but he's
03:13not going to be playing with the starters.
03:15That to me sounds like it's done.
03:17That to me sounds like you wouldn't do that.
03:20You wouldn't arrange the schedule in that fashion.
03:23If Shador still had a legitimate shot to really win the job, because why wouldn't you want
03:28Shador to get as many reps as possible in game action with once?
03:32And then don't forget, there's a short turnaround instead of the seven days at six days because
03:37it's a Thursday.
03:39That's exactly.
03:40So that's, it's the Thursday after it's, it's, it's the tight schedule, exactly how
03:45you said it was divvied up.
03:47I'm going, I'm sure there's going to be people who fight it and I'm sure there's going to
03:51be a lot of reactions on, on the internet and things like that.
03:54But I'm just trying to be honest with everybody.
03:57I'm not happy that it's, it's going to be Deshaun Watson, but at the same time I can sit
04:01here and I can accept that it's going to be Deshaun Watson.
04:03Cause that's the, that's the realistic thing.
04:05And, and, and I don't think that this is, this is the difference.
04:09I don't think Deshaun Watson was just handed the job.
04:12I do think that there's a thing where you have to go out and you have to earn the job.
04:15And I think too, it was not the best job in the world to have to earn, but it was
04:19a
04:19job that I think that Deshaun Watson has all but been announced as the one who earned
04:24that job going into week one, unless something terrible happens or something crazy happens
04:29or anything like that.
04:30I think that he's earned that job.
04:32It sounds like you have as well.
04:34You've, you've, you've taken to that too.
04:36Earned.
04:36I don't know.
04:37I, well, you think it was gifted.
04:40That's it.
04:41Now here we go.
04:42That's an interesting thought.
04:43What's between earning gifted.
04:45I mean, clearly, clearly Todd Munkin, I think now knowing everything we know, it kind of does
04:51seem like Todd Munkin had set this up for Shador to Deshaun to kind of have an edge.
04:59And then he took it and he didn't exactly run with it.
05:02He was horrific for the first, you know, how many practices.
05:05Now to be fair also, which no one really wants to be all that fair to Deshaun.
05:11It would seem if you just looked at the social media reaction after the Browns put him for
05:16the first time in a long time on some of their social media.
05:19I mean, I can't remember the last time the Browns really went out of their way to do
05:22that.
05:23Zach Jackson called that the soft launch.
05:26Like they were, they were almost putting that out there to agree to gauge the reaction.
05:32And it wasn't pretty, obviously it was that you, you, Kenny, you always talk about how
05:38you mute conversations sometimes.
05:39And then so you could go about your day.
05:41I think the Browns probably did that.
05:43They probably muted the conversation.
05:45One point.
05:46What about their day?
05:47Yeah.
05:47Well, so there's several reasons where I think that it makes sense to start Deshaun Watson.
05:52And, and one of them is at one point, Nathan had done a count.
05:56I got to go back at one juncture.
05:59They had the Browns hat before Devon Booth went out there and had that great big long run.
06:07They had 21 carries for 21 or 31 yards.
06:11It was rough.
06:11And this is, and that, why do I bring that up?
06:14But your offensive line is going to struggle to start this year.
06:18They will start out the year and probably be one of the, unless Munkin really is a magic
06:22worker.
06:23Just see.
06:23Well, it, I mean, it, George Warhop, I understand is, is well regarded, but there's only like,
06:28yeah, you got a number one overall pick there, or excuse me, a first round pick your first
06:33overall pick in a long time, you got your first rounder there, but you still have four guys
06:38who are either free agents or young.
06:41And I understand what the bears did.
06:44And I keep telling everybody, you got a hell of an athlete behind him.
06:48And some of the reasons why he's so popular is because he was making throws when on the
06:53run under duress.
06:54Why is he, I'm sure Ben Johnson would love to just keep him protected and everything just
06:59be fine.
07:00It was out of necessity last year.
07:02So the bears were used as this example.
07:04And I go, yeah, that's where it can go really, really, really right.
07:07If you have a number one overall quarterback that can play very well, when you don't have
07:12that, then you have to try to find the very best you can.
07:14And when you don't have a lot of rushing against a, a, a two defense, when you're struggling
07:20to do that, then a lot of things are going to go veteran, the Sean's a veteran mobility.
07:27The Sean's more mobile.
07:28Those things are going to play into it.
07:30And that's why I think that, yeah, I, I don't think the Sean's going to have the job for
07:35all 17 games, but I do think that he's going to start the season.
07:38And I think that the closer we are to accepting that, I mean, it's gotten to the point where
07:42I'd be shocked and I just don't know how much sense it would make if he were to name
07:45Shador Sanders, the starter.
07:48Does that make sense to you too?
07:49Like, it's, it's just, it's, it's really apparent.
07:51Like, I don't think Shador's garbage.
07:54I don't think his career's over.
07:55I don't like what I'm hearing from some of the people who are big Shador fans about it.
07:59We'll talk about that at 640.
08:01Okay.
08:01Not right now.
08:02But there's just so many things that I go, yeah, you know, I could sit here and deny
08:05it, but logically this leads to Deshaun Watson being the starter.
08:09And if you want to carry it out another week and then announce it, go right on ahead.
08:14We got the time, but I, I'm just not really speculating anymore.
08:19I'm taking it as Deshaun Watson's has, has the job and, and that's where we're going
08:24to start the season at.
08:25Yeah.
08:25And I, I, I, I kind of get that feeling too.
08:28And I look, I'm going to say, say this as someone who, um, anybody that's been listening
08:32to the show, maybe not necessarily on social media, but people that have been listening
08:35to the show.
08:36No, we've both thought what's really the point here in launching anything, Deshaun Watson.
08:43What's the point?
08:44The fans don't really want it.
08:45Now, maybe some of the players do.
08:47I don't know.
08:48We have no idea.
08:49Players can warm up to anybody because they're forced to.
08:52So I don't always put a ton of credence into that either.
08:55But I think Todd Munkin might've, that might've been the feather in his cap of trying to get
09:00this job in general, trying to say, Hey, watch what I can do with Deshaun.
09:05You guys have given up on them.
09:07I can do stuff with him.
09:09And look, they, it was very, very, I know there was a lot of motion and stuff and some
09:14window dressing on some of the stuff they were setting up and people were trying to
09:17look for differences between Todd Munkin and Kevin Stefanski.
09:20But I think in general, was that, was that a real game plan or anything like that?
09:25No, I don't, I don't think that, I think they were trying to ease Deshaun Watson in
09:30and they, they weren't really all that worried about doing that with Shador.
09:36So I thought that was pretty telling.
09:38Yeah.
09:38And what that, what that is, is Hey, Shador will get his opportunity.
09:42That's going to come.
09:44They, they already know, you know, he, he can air it out and, you know, deliver the beautiful
09:48strike to Floria, which was the play of the game.
09:51I thought it was interesting that Munkin came back yesterday when he had the other media
09:54availability and was like, yeah, he's drifting.
09:56He's drifting.
09:57We got to work on those things.
09:58Yeah.
09:58So that's a coach that that's a coach seeing a really good thing, like a good strike from
10:03Shador Sanders in game action and having to, to worry about a blitz and not knowing if
10:08you can protect and then being able to launch that ball.
10:11It was successful play to Floria.
10:13Who's going to be on the, on, on the cut line, right on, on having a chance to maybe make
10:17the team more of a special teams and, you know, kind of end of the rotation wide receiver.
10:23And he's still a coach.
10:24He's like, no, we got to work on things.
10:26Yeah.
10:26That's still, this is not perfect.
10:29And just combine that with how he talked about Deshaun.
10:33It definitely sounded like there was some protection there.
10:37And he seemed really, really proud of the work that Deshaun Watson had put in protecting
10:42Deshaun, you mean he's protecting Deshaun in a way?
10:44Can you explain that a little further?
10:46I'm not trying to be difficult.
10:48No, I'm not.
10:49Feel free.
10:50Ask as many questions as you want.
10:51Let me know what you mean by that.
10:53The way that you could see the glow in Munkin's face in, you guys all counted this guy out.
11:02He's not oblivious to those conversations.
11:04We had him here in studio.
11:05He knows the conversations that are had about Deshaun Watson.
11:08He knows how his owner sounded like he gave up on Deshaun Watson.
11:12He knows that the team wasn't posting any Deshaun Watson social media until really that
11:18game.
11:19And then the way that Munkin talked right after the game, he's like, this was really
11:24cool.
11:24This was really cool to see somebody left for dead, put all the work in, come back, and
11:30look like he may be able to play the position again, even if it's a preseason game.
11:34Do you feel he was talking tough?
11:37Not on Watson.
11:38Okay.
11:38Because the way you made it sound, it sounds like he's showing you right now.
11:42It's like, well, it's been one preseason game.
11:44No, not talking tough at all.
11:46But in fact, that's what I'm saying.
11:49The way that he acknowledged there was a cadence issue with both quarterbacks, he acknowledged
11:54they had to take a timeout.
11:56Like some of the stuff that we're wondering who has the edge on that, he still acknowledged
12:01Watson had issues with that too, but you could tell there was a smile on Todd's face that
12:07he feels like he has a chance to resurrect something here.
12:11I know none of us really think there is that possibility, but you know what?
12:16This is what, this is why you got hired.
12:18This is what you're here to do.
12:20Let's see if miracles can happen.
12:23Fair.
12:23I mean, he's a coach.
12:25So fair enough.
12:26You got to think that you can draw blood from the stone, I guess, but I'm going to remain
12:31realistic.
12:31And I think the more that we watched...
12:34I'm not changing my win total for the year.
12:35No, but I think the more that we watched on Saturday lets us know that, yeah, I got several
12:40of the texts from friends and people were watching.
12:43It's going, hey man, you were right, our quarterback is in college.
12:48I'm like, yeah, yeah, he is.
12:50I think that was most national takeaways as well.
12:53Kind of where we're at on this.
12:55Because I didn't think that Watson lit up the sky out there in Chicago.
13:01Again, I thought it was a game of pitch and catch.
13:03He did what was expected out of a veteran playing against twos.
13:07And that's fine, considering he hasn't played in two years.
13:10So I understand that in itself is a victory for him personally.
13:14For Shador, I know that there's a lot being said about the interception.
13:18We'll get to that coming up later on.
13:20I get that as well.
13:21But there's a lot of things being said.
13:23It's just like, hey, you know what?
13:24Maybe we'll get to a time here.
13:26And maybe by this time next week, because I think on the 24th is probably when it might
13:29officially happen, when they go, okay, this is who our starter's going to be.
13:33I think it's going to be Deshaun.
13:35This is who our starter's going to be.
13:36And then we'll go on about there.
13:38But some of the things that are being said already, as far as excuses, craziness, it's
13:43just like, man, this is a preseason game.
13:45The first preseason game against the Bears.
13:47The Bears weren't taking it necessarily too terribly seriously.
13:50We had to go in there and we had to focus on work.
13:53And I know a lot of conversation is going to be about the quarterbacks.
13:56The offensive line was certainly concerning.
13:57The lack of depth in the secondary is, is it should be concerning everybody.
14:02But I also thought it was the sobering thing of what this season probably is going to be.
14:06Because at one point you didn't have any NFL experience out there in the third quarter.
14:10And that's a, that's a scary situation.
14:14If, if you're thinking that they're going to win, they're going to be a surprise.
14:18I should say, if you think that they're going to win six games or five games or somewhere
14:22in that neighborhood, it's, I think, accepting reality.
14:25I should say, if you think that they're going to win six games or five games or five games,
