00:22Let us pray.
00:25Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ, who for our sake gave yourself up into the service of
00:33your parents and to teach us true humility carried by your mother into the temple and there redeemed with the
00:42offerings of the poor when the righteous Simeon and the prophetess Anna, gladdened by your presence, gave glorious witness concerning
00:50you.
00:51May the slightest breath of vanity never affect my innermost soul.
00:56May all arrogance be ever cast down.
00:59May all longing for the praise of men be extinguished.
01:02May all wantonness of self-conceit be quenched within me.
01:07Give me grace, O Lord, to flee any honour, to hate distinction and to submit myself with readiness to all
01:14men for your sake.
01:17Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ, who as a little child did with your tender mother suffer
01:24persecution and did not refuse to be carried as an exile fleeing into Egypt.
01:31Give me grace amidst the storms of adversity and the blasts of persecution and misfortune, to fly for refuge to
01:39you alone, to seek you, to call upon you.
01:44Grant that I may receive all things with gladness at your hands, may endure all things in meekness of heart,
01:51and may cleave with thanksgiving without wavering to you.
01:56Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ, who, when you remained behind in the temple, your mother sought
02:04for sorrowing, and at length with joy found you sitting in the midst of the doctors, hearing and asking them
02:10questions.
02:12May you so give and communicate yourself to me, that I may never be separated from you, and never be
02:19without the comfort of your blessed friendship.
02:22Drive sloth from my heart, dispel any dullness that is displeasing in your sight.
02:29Grant me perfect devotion, and such an ardent thirst after piety, that my soul may be so affected and possessed
02:37by it, as never to feel satisfied with worshipping you.
02:43Praise, honour and glory be to you, who gave yourself up to live in concealment for thirty years, to be
02:51reputed by the Jews the son of Joseph the carpenter, and be subject to the commands of your mother and
02:57the same Joseph.
02:59May your grace, I beg you, root out and thoroughly pluck up from the innermost recesses of my heart, any
03:07ambition and seeking of glory, that I may become belittled in my own eyes, and may love to be unknown
03:15and considered of no account, submitting myself to all, and obeying them for your honour.
03:23Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ, who did not refuse to come to the River Jordan, and
03:29be baptised there by your servant John.
03:33May you thoroughly cleanse me by your merits in this life, that freed from all vices and sins, I may
03:42be filled with the love of you, and long for my heavenly country.
03:47Make me, I beg you, before my soul quits this body, pleasing to you in all things, that, departing from
03:55this life, I may be for ever in heaven with you, to see you, to enjoy you, and to praise
04:02your holy name for ever and ever.
04:06Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ, who for our sake dwelt in the wilderness amongst the wild
04:13beasts, and fasted and watched in prayer for forty days and forty nights, permitting yourself to be tempted by the
04:21devil, whom you overcame when angels came and ministered to you.
04:26Grant me grace to discipline, overcome and bring into subjection my sinful flesh, with its evil affections.
04:37Give me grace to be instant in prayer and all other spiritual exercises, and grant that with your continual help,
04:45I may completely overcome sins of gluttony, and may escape the snares and schemes of the devil.
04:54Let no temptations, I beg you, defile me, nor separate me from you, but may they rather purify me, and
05:02unite and join me with you.
05:06Praise, honour and glory be to you, O Christ, who gave himself up to preach repentance, to call to you
05:14disciples, and from them choose the twelve apostles, to be the special heralds of the faith,
05:19gathering together, gathering together the children of God that were scattered abroad, draw me after you, and powerfully excite my
05:28heart to love you.
05:30Do not permit me to neglect the grace with which you called me, but make me ready to despise the
05:37world and all perishable things, following you, taking your humility and charity as my example.
05:44Give me grace to look for you alone, and with earnest longing to sigh continually after you. Amen.
05:56O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing your praise.
06:08O be joyful in the Lord, open our lips, and the Lord with gladness, and come in one's presence with
06:24a song.
06:27O Lord, open our lips, and with earnest longing to deceive you, and in truth is the voice of God.
06:54We thank God to him and speak to the Lord of his name.
07:04For the Lord is gracious, his mercy is everlasting,
07:14and his truth and pure from generation to generation.
07:27Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost,
07:38as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be world without any joy.
08:06Amen.
08:07Hear my prayer, O Lord, and consider my desire.
08:16Harker unto me for thy truth and righteousness' sake,
08:23and enter voting to judgment with thy servant.
08:30Falling my side shall go, and living be justified.
08:39For the enemy hath persecuted my soul.
08:44He hath smitten my life down to the ground.
08:50He hath made me the darkness that of them, that of being of them.
08:59Therefore is my spirit next within me,
09:06and my heart within me is desperate.
09:24May I exercise myself in the words of thy hands.
09:33I stretch both thy hands unto thee,
09:38My soul gaspeth unto thee, my soul gaspeth unto thee,
09:44as of God's mighty land.
09:48Hear me, O Lord, and that soon,
09:53for all my spirit waxeth faint.
09:57Hide not thy face from me,
10:01lest I delight unto them that go down into the pit.
10:09O let me hear thy loving kindness betimes in the morning.
10:16For in thee is my trust.
10:20Should thou be the way that I should hold him?
10:26For I lift up my soul unto thee.
10:34I lift up my soul unto thee.
10:37Lead me, O Lord, and that again!
10:43Come to thee, O Lord, and that again!
10:44For now my love is,
10:45for I bring up thy will,
10:46and to thee to help me,
10:50teach me to do the thing that blesses me!
10:55For Thou art my road
10:59Let my loving spirit lead me forth
11:04Into the land of righteousness
11:10Wiggle me, O Lord, for Thy name's sake
11:15And for Thy righteousness' sake
11:19Bring my soul out of trouble
11:23And of Thy foolish dream I ever meet
11:29And destroy all them that bears my soul
11:34For I am Thine servant
11:46Glory be to the Father
11:49And to the Son And to the Holy Ghost
11:58As it was in the beginning
12:01Is now and ever shall be
12:08And without end
12:12O God
12:34A reading from the Gospel according to St. John
12:38Chapter 21
12:41Then, when they had finished breakfast
12:43Jesus said to Simon Peter
12:46Simon, son of John
12:47Do you love me more than these two?
12:50He replied
12:51Yes, Lord, you know I love you
12:56Jesus told him
12:57Feed my lambs
13:00Jesus asked a second time
13:02Simon, son of John
13:04Do you love me?
13:05He replied
13:06Yes, Lord, you know I love you
13:10Jesus told him
13:12Shepherd my sheep
13:16Jesus asked a third time
13:18Simon, son of John
13:20Do you love me?
13:22Peter was distressed
13:24That Jesus asked him a third time
13:26Do you love me?
13:27And said
13:28Lord, you know everything
13:30You know that I love you
13:33Jesus replied
13:34Feed my sheep
13:37I tell you the solemn truth
13:38When you were young
13:39You tied your clothes around you
13:41And went wherever you wanted
13:43But when you are old
13:45You will stretch out your hands
13:46And others will tie you up
13:48And bring you where you do not want to go
13:53Now Jesus said this
13:55To indicate clearly
13:56By what kind of death
13:57Jesus was going to glorify God
14:01After he had said this
14:03Jesus told Peter
14:04Follow me
14:07This is the word of the Lord
14:10Thanks be to God
14:16Peter had already seen
14:18The risen Lord
14:20There had been that meeting
14:21On Easter morning
14:23On which the seal of sacred secrecy
14:26Was impressed
14:27When alone
14:29The denier poured out
14:30His heart to his Lord
14:32And was taken to the heart
14:35That he had wounded
14:37Then there had been two interviews
14:39On the two successive Sundays
14:41In which the apostle
14:42In common with his brethren
14:44Had received as one of the group
14:46The Lord's blessing
14:47The Lord's gift of the Spirit
14:49And the Lord's commission
14:52But something more was needed
14:55There had been a public denial
14:56And there must now be
14:58Public confession
15:02If he had slipped again
15:04Into the circle of the disciples
15:05With no special treatment
15:07Or reference to his fall
15:09It might have seemed
15:11A trivial fault to others
15:12And even to himself
15:15And so
15:16After that strange meal
15:18On the beach
15:18We have this
15:20Exquisitely beautiful
15:21And deeply instructive incident
15:23Of the special treatment
15:25Needed by the denier
15:27Before he could publicly
15:29Be reinstated
15:30In his office
15:34The meal seems to have passed
15:35In silence
15:37That awe which hung over
15:39The disciples
15:39In all their intercourse
15:40With Jesus
15:41During the forty days
15:42Lay heavy upon them
15:44And they sat there
15:45Huddled around the fire
15:46Eating silently
15:48The meal which Christ
15:49Had provided
15:50And no doubt
15:52Gazing silently
15:53At the silent Lord
15:56What a tension of expectation
15:58There must have been
15:59As to how the oppressive silence
16:01Was going to be broken
16:04And how Peter's heart
16:05Must have throbbed
16:07And the other's ears
16:08Had pricked up
16:09When it was broken
16:11By Simon son of Jonas
16:13Do you love me?
16:16We may listen
16:17With pricked up ears too
16:19For we have here
16:20In Christ's treatment
16:21Of the apostle
16:22A revelation
16:24Of how he behaves
16:25To a soul
16:26Conscious of its fault
16:27And in Peter's demeanour
16:30An example
16:31Of how a soul
16:32Conscious of its fault
16:34Should behave to him
16:38There are three stages here
16:39The threefold question
16:41The threefold answer
16:42And the threefold charge
16:44And let us look at these
16:47In turn
16:48First of all
16:49We have the threefold question
16:54The reiteration
16:55In the interrogation
16:56Did not express doubt
16:58As to the veracity
16:59Of the answer
17:01Nor indeed
17:03Disatisfaction
17:03With its terms
17:04But it did express
17:06And was meant
17:07I suppose
17:07To suggest to Peter
17:09And to the others
17:10That the threefold denial
17:12Needed to be obliterated
17:13By the threefold confession
17:16And that every black mark
17:17That had been scored deep
17:19On the page
17:20By that denial
17:21Needed to be covered over
17:23With the gilding
17:23Or bright colouring
17:24Of the triple acknowledgement
17:27And so Peter
17:29Thrice having said
17:30I know him not
17:32Jesus
17:33With a gracious violence
17:34Forced him to say thrice
17:36You know that I love you
17:39The one
17:40Is the designation
17:40By which he is addressed
17:42Simon son of Jonas
17:44Which travels back
17:46As it were
17:46To the time
17:47Before he was a disciple
17:48And points a finger
17:50To his weak humanity
17:51Before it had come
17:53Under the influence
17:54Of Jesus Christ
17:56Simon son of Jonas
17:58Was the name
17:59That he bore
17:59In the days
18:00Before his discipleship
18:02It was the name
18:03By which Jesus
18:04Had addressed him
18:05Therefore
18:06On that never to be forgotten
18:07Turning point of his life
18:10When he was first
18:11Brought to him
18:11By his brother Andrew
18:14It was the name
18:15By which Jesus
18:15Had addressed him
18:16At the very climax
18:18Of his life
18:18When high up
18:19He had been able
18:21To see far
18:22And in answer
18:23To the Lord's question
18:24Had rung out
18:25The confession
18:26You are the Christ
18:27The son of the living God
18:31So the name
18:32By which Jesus
18:32Addresses him now
18:33Says to him
18:35In effect
18:36Remember your human weakness
18:39Remember how you were
18:40Drawn to me
18:40Remember the high water mark
18:42Of your discipleship
18:43When I was playing
18:45Before you
18:45As the son of God
18:47And remembering all these
18:50Answer me
18:52Do you love me
18:56The same intention
18:57To drive Peter
18:58Back to the wholesome
18:59Remembrance
19:00Of a stained past
19:01Is obvious
19:02In the first form
19:03Of the question
19:06Our Lord
19:06Mercifully
19:07Does not persist
19:08In giving it
19:09That form
19:10In the second
19:10And third instances
19:12Do you love me
19:13More than these
19:15More than these
19:16What
19:18I cannot for a moment
19:19Believe that the question
19:20Means something
19:21So trivial
19:21And irrelevant
19:22As
19:23Do you love me
19:24More than these
19:25Nets and boats
19:26And for fishing
19:28No
19:28In accordance
19:29With the purpose
19:30That runs through
19:30The whole
19:31Of compelling Peter
19:32To retrospect
19:33It says to him
19:34Do you remember
19:36What you said
19:37The dozen hours
19:37Before you denied me
19:39Though all
19:40Should forsake you
19:41Yet I will not
19:44Are you going
19:45To take that stand
19:45Again
19:46Do you love me
19:47More than these
19:48Ever discredit
19:49Never discredit
19:50Their boasting
19:51So shamefully
19:55And so dear brothers
19:56And sisters
19:57Here we have
19:58Jesus Christ
19:59In his treatment
20:00Of this penitent
20:01And half restored soul
20:03Forcing a man
20:04With merciful compulsion
20:06To look steadfastly
20:08And long
20:09At his past sin
20:10And to retrace
20:12Step by step
20:13Shameful stage
20:14By shameful stage
20:16The road
20:17By which he
20:18Had departed
20:19So far
20:22Every foul
20:23Place he has
20:23To stop
20:24And look at
20:24And think about
20:27Each detail
20:28He has to bring up
20:29Before his mind
20:32Was it not cruel
20:33Of Jesus
20:33Thus to take
20:34Peter by the neck
20:35As it were
20:36And hold him
20:37Right down
20:38Close to the
20:39Foul things
20:40That he had done
20:40And say to him
20:41Look look
20:42Look ever
20:43And answer
20:44Do you love me
20:47No
20:47It was not cruel
20:49For it was
20:50True kindness
20:52Peter
20:53Peter had never
20:53Been so abundantly
20:54And permanently
20:55Penetrated
20:56By the sense
20:57Of the sinfulness
20:57Of his sin
20:59As after
21:00He was sure
21:01As he had been
21:02Made sure
21:03In that great interview
21:04That it was
21:05All forgiven
21:08So long as
21:09A man is disturbed
21:10By the dread
21:10Of consequences
21:11So long as
21:12He is doubtful
21:13As to his relation
21:14To the forgiving love
21:15He is not in a position
21:18Beneficially and sanely
21:20To consider his evil
21:21In its moral quality
21:23Only
21:25But only when
21:26The conviction
21:26Comes to a man
21:27God is pacified
21:29Towards you
21:30For all that you
21:31Have done
21:32And then
21:33He can look at
21:34His own evil
21:35Without the smallest
21:36Disturbance
21:37Rising from
21:38Slavish fear
21:39Of issues
21:41Then lie
21:42Is in a position
21:43Rightly to estimate
21:44Its darkness
21:45And its death
21:48There can be no
21:49Better discipline
21:50For all of us
21:51Than to remember
21:52Our faults
21:53And to penitently
21:54Travel back
21:55Over the road
21:56Of our sins
21:58Just because
21:59We are sure
21:59That God in Christ
22:00Has forgotten them
22:02The beginning
22:03Of Christ's
22:04Merciful treatment
22:05Of the forgiven man
22:06Is to compel him
22:07To remember
22:08That he may learn
22:10And feel shame
22:14And then there is
22:15Another point here
22:16In this triple question
22:18And how significant
22:19And beautiful
22:20It is
22:21That the only thing
22:23That Jesus Christ
22:24Cares about
22:24Is to ask
22:25For the sinner's love
22:28We might have expected
22:29Simon son of Jonas
22:31Are you sorry
22:32For what you did
22:34Simon son of Jonas
22:35Will you promise
22:36Never to do this
22:37Any more
22:39No
22:40These things will come
22:42If the other thing
22:42Is there
22:44Do you love me
22:47Christ sues each of us
22:49Not for obedience
22:50Primarily
22:51Not for repentance
22:52Not for vows
22:53Not for conduct
22:54But for a heart
22:56And that being given
22:58All the rest
22:59Will follow
23:00That is the distinguishing
23:02Characteristic
23:03Of Christian morality
23:05That Jesus seeks first
23:07For the surrender
23:08Of the affections
23:09And believes
23:10And is warranted
23:11In the belief
23:11That if these are surrendered
23:13All else will follow
23:15And love being given
23:17Loyalty and service
23:19And repentance
23:20And hatred of self-will
23:22And of self-seeking
23:23Will follow
23:24In her train
23:26All the graces
23:27Of human character
23:28Which Christ seeks
23:29And is ready to impart
23:31Are as it were
23:32But the pages
23:33And ministers
23:34Of the regal love
23:35Who follow behind
23:37And squall the body
23:38Of her servants
23:41Christ asks for love
23:44Surely that indicates
23:46The depth of his own
23:48In this commerce
23:49He is satisfied
23:50With nothing less
23:51And can ask
23:52For nothing more
23:53And he seeks for love
23:55Because he is love
23:56And has given love
23:59Oh to all hearts
24:01Burdened
24:02As all our hearts
24:03Ought to be
24:04Unless the burden
24:05Has been cast off
24:06In one way
24:07By the consciousness
24:09Of our own weakness
24:10And imperfection
24:11Surely
24:13Surely
24:13It is a gospel
24:14That is contained
24:15In that one question
24:17Addressed to a man
24:19Who had gone far astray
24:22Simon son of Jonas
24:24Do you love me
24:28Here again
24:29We have Jesus Christ
24:30In his dealing
24:31With the penitent
24:32Willing to trust
24:33Discredited professions
24:36We think that
24:37One of the signs
24:38Of our being wise people
24:39Is that experience
24:41Shall have taught us
24:42Once being bitten
24:43Twice to be shy
24:46And if a man
24:47Has once deceived us
24:48By flaming profession
24:49And ice cold acts
24:51Never to trust him again
24:54And we think that
24:55This is worldly wisdom
24:57And the bitter fruit
24:58Of earthly experience
24:59And sharpness
25:01And shrewdness
25:01And so forth
25:05But Jesus Christ
25:07Even whilst reminding Peter
25:08By that more than these
25:10Of his utterly hollow
25:12And unreliable posting
25:13Shows himself ready
25:16To accept once again
25:18The words of one
25:19Whose shallowness
25:20He had proven
25:23Charity hopes all things
25:24And believes all things
25:26And Jesus Christ
25:28Is ready to trust us
25:29When we say
25:30I love you
25:31Even though often
25:33In our past
25:34Our professed love
25:35Has always been disproved
25:41We have here
25:42In this question
25:42Our Lord revealing himself
25:44As willing to accept
25:46The imperfect love
25:47Which a disciple
25:48Can offer to him
25:50Of course
25:51Many will know well
25:52That there is a very
25:53Remarkable play
25:54Of expression here
25:57In the first two words
25:58In the first two questions
25:59The word which our Lord
26:01Employs for love
26:02Is not the same
26:03As which appears
26:04In Peter's first two answers
26:08Christ asks for one
26:09Kind of love
26:10But Peter
26:11Proffers another
26:15I do not enter
26:16Upon discussion
26:18As to the distinction
26:19Between these two
26:20Apparent synonyms
26:22The kind of love
26:23Which Christ asks for
26:25Is higher
26:25Nobler
26:26Less emotive
26:27And more associated
26:28With the mind
26:29And will
26:31It is the inferior kind
26:32The more warm
26:33More sensuous
26:34More passionate
26:35And emotional
26:36Which Peter brings
26:40And then in the third question
26:41Our Lord
26:42As it were
26:43Surrenders
26:44And takes Peter's own word
26:45As if he had said
26:47Be it so
26:49You shrink
26:50From professing
26:51The higher kind
26:52I will accept
26:54The lower
26:54And I will educate you
26:56And bring you up
26:57To the height
26:57That I desire you
26:59To stand at
27:02Ah brothers and sisters
27:04However strained
27:06And imperfect
27:07However disproved
27:08By denials
27:09However tainted
27:10By earthly associations
27:12Jesus Christ
27:13Will accept
27:14The poorest stream
27:15Of love
27:16Though it be
27:17But a trickle
27:17When it ought to be
27:18A raging torrent
27:20Which we can bring
27:21To them
27:24These are the lessons
27:26Which it seems to me
27:27Lie in this triple question
27:29I have dealt with them
27:31At the greater length
27:32Because those which I follow
27:33Are dependent upon them
27:36But let us now turn
27:37To the second thing
27:39The triple answer
27:42Indeed Lord
27:43You know that I love you
27:47Is not that beautiful
27:48That the man who
27:50By Christ's resurrection
27:51As the last of the answers shows
27:54Had been led to the loftiest concept
27:56Of Christ's omniscience
27:57And regarded him
27:59As knowing the hearts
28:00Of all men
28:01Should in the face
28:02Of all that Jesus Christ
28:04Knew of his denial
28:05And his sin
28:06Have dared to appeal
28:08To Christ's own knowledge
28:12What is superb
28:13And all conquering confidence
28:15In Christ's depth
28:16Of knowledge and forgiveness
28:18That knowing that answer
28:20Shone
28:22He felt that Jesus
28:23Could look beneath
28:24The surface of his sin
28:25And see that below it
28:27There was
28:28Even in the midst
28:29Of the denial
28:30A heart
28:31That in its depths
28:33Was true
28:35It is a tremendous piece
28:36Of confident appeal
28:38To the lower
28:39Deeper knowledge
28:40And therefore
28:41The larger love
28:42And more abundant forgiveness
28:43Of the righteous law
28:46You know
28:47That I love you
28:51Brothers and sisters
28:52A Christian man
28:54Or woman
28:54Ought to be sure
28:55Of his love
28:56To Jesus Christ
28:58You do not study
28:59Your conduct
29:00In order to infer
29:01From it
29:02Your love for others
29:03You do not study
29:04Your conduct
29:05In order to infer
29:06From it
29:07Your love
29:08To your wife
29:09Or your husband
29:09Or your parents
29:10Or your children
29:11Or your friends
29:14Love is not a matter
29:15Of inference
29:16It is a matter
29:18Of consciousness
29:18And intuition
29:21And while self-examination
29:23Is needful
29:24For all of us
29:24For many reasons
29:26A Christian
29:27Ought to be as sure
29:29That he loves
29:29Jesus Christ
29:30As he is sure
29:31That he loves
29:32His dearest
29:33On earth
29:37It used to be
29:38The fashion long ago
29:39This generation
29:40Has not depth enough
29:42To keep up
29:42For the fashion
29:43For Christian people
29:45To talk
29:45As if it were a point
29:46They longed to know
29:48Whether they loved
29:49Jesus or not
29:51There is no reason
29:53Why it should be
29:53A point we long to know
29:56You know all about
29:57Your love to one another
29:59And you are sure of that
30:00So why are you not sure
30:02Of your love for Jesus Christ
30:04Oh, but you say
30:05Look at my sins
30:06And my failures
30:08And if Peter
30:09Had only looked at his sins
30:10Do you not think
30:12That his words
30:13Would have stuck
30:14In his throat
30:16He did look
30:17But he looked
30:18In a very different way
30:19From that of trying
30:20To ascertain
30:21From his conduct
30:22Whether he loved
30:23Jesus or not
30:26Any sin
30:27Is inconsistent
30:28With Christian love
30:29To Christ
30:31So let us thank God
30:32That we have no right
30:34To say of any sin
30:35That it is incompatible
30:36With that love
30:37More than that
30:38A great, gross, flagrant
30:40Sudden fall
30:41Like Peter's
30:42Is a great deal
30:43Less inconsistent
30:44With love to Christ
30:45Than other
30:46Continuously unworthy
30:48Worldly selfish
30:49Christ forgetting lives
30:51Of hosts
30:52Of complacent
30:53Professing Christians
30:55Today
30:58White ants
30:59Will eat up the carcass
31:00Of a dead buffalo
31:01Quicker than a lion will
31:04And to have denied
31:05Christ once
31:06Twice, thrice
31:07In the space of an hour
31:08And under the strongest
31:10Of temptation
31:11Is not half as bad
31:13As to call him
31:13Master and Lord
31:14And day by day
31:16Week in and week out
31:17In works deny him
31:20The triple answer
31:21Declares to us
31:22That in spite of a man's sins
31:24He ought to be conscious
31:26Of his love
31:27And be ready to profess it
31:29When need is
31:33And finally
31:34We turn
31:35To the triple commission
31:38I do not dwell
31:39Upon it at any length
31:40Because in its original form
31:42It applies especially
31:43To the apostolic office
31:46But the general principles
31:47Which underlie
31:48This threefold charge
31:49To feed and tend
31:51With the sheep
31:52And the lambs
31:53May be put in a form
31:54That applies to each
31:55And every one of us
31:56And it is this
31:58The best token
31:59Of a Christian's love
32:00To Jesus Christ
32:01Is his service
32:03Of man
32:04For Christ's sake
32:06Do you love me?
32:08Indeed Lord I do
32:11That you have said
32:12Go and do
32:14Feed my lambs
32:15Feed my sheep
32:18We need the profession
32:19Of words
32:20We need
32:21As Peter himself
32:22Enjoyed in the subsequent time
32:23To be ready to give
32:25Every man that asks
32:26A reason
32:27For hope
32:29And an acknowledgement
32:30Of the love
32:30That are in us
32:33But if you want men
32:34To believe in your love
32:35However Jesus Christ
32:36May know it
32:37Go and work
32:38In the vineyard
32:40The service of man
32:42Is the garb
32:42Of the love of God
32:44He that loves God
32:45Will love his brother
32:46Also
32:48Do not confine
32:49That thought of service
32:50Feeding and tending
32:52To what we call
32:53Evangelistic and religious work
32:56That is but one of its forms
32:58But it is everything
33:00In which Christian men
33:02Can serve their fellows
33:04Let us take it
33:05As our worship
33:06Of our Lord
33:07By the world
33:09As the convincing proof
33:10Of the reality
33:11Of our love
33:14Love to Jesus Christ
33:16Is the qualification
33:17For all such service
33:19If we are knit to him
33:21By true affection
33:21Which is based
33:23Upon our consciousness
33:24Of our own falls
33:25And evils
33:26And of our reception
33:27Of his forgiving mercy
33:30Then we shall have
33:32The qualities
33:32That fit us
33:33And the impulse
33:34That drives us
33:35To serve and help
33:37Our fellow
33:38I do not say
33:40God forbid
33:40That there is no
33:41Philanthropy
33:42Apart from the Christian faith
33:44But I say this
33:46On the wide scale
33:46And in the long run
33:48That they
33:49Who are knit to Jesus Christ
33:50By love
33:51Will be those
33:52Who render the greatest help
33:53To all that are
33:55Afflicted
33:55In mind
33:56Body
33:57Or estate
33:57And that the true basis
33:59And qualification
34:00For efficient service
34:01Of our fellows
34:03Is the utter surrender
34:05Of our hearts
34:06To him
34:06Who is the foundation
34:08Of love
34:09And from whom
34:10Comes all our power
34:12To live in the world
34:14As the images
34:15And embodiments
34:16Of the love
34:17Which has saved us
34:18That we might help
34:20To save others
34:26Brothers and sisters
34:27Let us all ask ourselves
34:29Christ's questions
34:30To the denier
34:31Let us look our past
34:33Evil
34:34Full in the face
34:36That we may learn
34:37To hate it
34:38And that we may learn
34:40All the more
34:41The width
34:42And the sweep
34:43And the power
34:43Of his pardoning mercy
34:47May God grant
34:48That we will be able
34:49To say
34:50You know all things
34:52My Lord
34:53You know
34:54That I love you
