If it meant getting a starting corner back, would you trade Isaac TeSlaa?
Transcript
00:00uh let's get caught up on some feedback then i want to bring king in on the
00:04this is there a match between detroit and baltimore
00:07to help each team solve a problem uh regarding
00:13dylan larkin 100 new larkin would be back but if he's captain it would be
00:17pathetic he's not a leader he disappears in crunch time and throws
00:21his team and gm under the bus sure i'm not named texter the team might
00:26agree with a lot of what he said they might not say it as publicly but the
00:30team might agree or might be as disappointed in the red
00:34wings organization as a whole as larkin is
00:39absolutely want larkin back but put him where he belongs second line center the
00:42wings need a true star on the first line who knows he might just be welcome back
00:46as a clubhouse hero stevie why was not a big fan of the players that's from bob
00:50and shelby he might be welcome back as a clubhouse
00:53hero stevie why might not was not a big fan of the players do you mean the
00:57players weren't a big fan of stevie why
01:00if that if that's the case he might be welcome back as a clubhouse hero
01:03and i think everyone would agree having a player better than dylan larkin would be
01:07awesome to make a first line center
01:11just all you got to do is go get one of those
01:14yeah just go get one and i and i'm not i'm not he is a first line center well
01:19whether he is a center for every team in the league no he wouldn't be for every team in
01:22the league but for this team he is and that's the the point people want to make
01:26is find someone better great thanks if you can get someone better that is
01:30awesome probably the best path to get someone
01:34better is including dylan larkin in a trade
01:36and maybe sweetening the pot i guess but
01:41you know i i think we'd love everybody would love if dylan larkin was the second
01:47line center and they had somebody better uh he will stay and remain captain as is one last shot
01:55at stevie players know whether it was or was not justified they are all keeping mum because their
02:02captain did the heavy lifting and they don't want to tarnish stevie any more than they need to
02:06conspiracy believe it it's just on them texter larkin has been playing regularly with all the boys
02:13no issues with his teammates they understand stevie it will never come out cross the line
02:18with his treatment of larkin that's from dave and bancroft
02:21well i'd like i'd like to for that story to come out one two is i was told about yeah
02:26some some
02:28scrimmages with larkin and other red wings that were going on
02:32can't imagine that they would be going on with other red wings if there was
02:35really bad feelings but uh all right kang this this baltimore possibility you were
02:44you called the tesla trade shot or draft shot which was awesome but you're right it doesn't mean
02:50that you're like mr isaac tesla and how you were you're a brad holmes whisperer what do you make of
02:57a possibility if baltimore wants receiving help and they've got a third corner that doesn't make
03:04sense tesla being traded to baltimore no i think locking four is right as far as it matches up in
03:09needs and excess players in that position right but i think in the end being the brad holmes whisperer
03:15i think i might be i don't think brad i don't think brad holmes would do the trade because they
03:19would be
03:19asking for someone like isaac tesla now the only way the deal would happen by the way i did i
03:24do i
03:24did like tj uh tampa coming out of the draft i haven't you know done the deep dive and followed
03:28him
03:28exclusively since he got drafted but i remember he was a bigger corner and i think this is the year
03:32he might
03:33break out and takes rookies and young guys especially middle draft middle round draft guys
03:37a couple years to develop so this might be the year for him same thing with tesla though
03:42with that being said i don't think holmes would trade tesla for tj tampa now if he did entertain
03:49it that means a couple things one they don't think tesla's going to develop or he hasn't shown enough
03:54like what they thought he would show right so they're ready to move on i don't think that's the case
03:57the other thing is maybe tay martin or love it they really like and they're like oh we have
04:04something here where we can afford to lose a guy like tesla because i think brad holmes is the type
04:09of guy who's always he thinks about the now but he's always got one eye in the future and he
04:14wants
04:14someone ready to go and i think tesla was that pick because they already had jmo they had saint
04:18brown dorch is going to come in and be able to play like the khalif raymond type role return game
04:22as well
04:22but in the end just because it matches up with positions of need and excess players in that
04:27position i don't think they want to give that player up because it is not about the position
04:32it's about the player and i don't think they don't want to give up tesla or anyone like that now
04:35can
04:35i answer you in a tom kennedy yeah i'll do that from our end but i of course the raven's
04:40gonna be
04:40like no thanks has brad holmes traded away one of his picks has he done that yet as a red
04:46wings
04:46or it's a red wings it's the lions gm i don't think so but let me they do they they've
04:54rewarded
04:55they've released but they've released some guys but they haven't i don't know if he's ever traded
04:58and and it it feels like it takes a lot to release it i mean look the terry and arnold
05:02situation we understand well hen and hooker uh and hooker yeah but he was going into that last year
05:08but they just cut straight up cut yeah i get that too but they didn't trade iffy mellum
05:13did they was he drafted by yeah he was it was holmes first draft um and they didn't trade james
05:25houston
05:26right nope um yeah i don't so i don't know if he's traded his guys and would he i mean
05:35this look
05:36there's a first time for everything um but it feels like that they they have pretty high hopes for isaac
05:42tesla i don't i mean of course he's not untouchable it just doesn't seem like that's
05:48that's a brad holmes move that he would make is is moving a guy from his roster yeah i mean
05:56i am somewhat leery of something with brad and that is i'm concerned that this guy who has put together
06:07some elite drafts and some not elite drafts i'm concerned he has hard and fast rules
06:16and i'm a little concerned he might fall in love with his own guys
06:22now most of the guys that he has resigned i've been fully fully on board with
06:28and i think his business model is why he's reluctant to give up draft picks he knows he's
06:33gonna have to pay for the best players so he knows he's gonna need as many draft picks as he
06:38can find
06:39to be able to afford to roster a quality football team he's counting on his own ability to continue
06:47to draft well but i i think hard and fast rules in sports is foolish and there are philosophies and
06:57things that you want to do but given the way that every situation is different there's so many
07:04nuances to every roster to constructing every roster to who you can keep and who you can't
07:11to who you have accessibility to like one of the things i always used to believe and then i got
07:16around
07:16teams and i realized it doesn't work that way is well why don't you just go trade for a great
07:20corner
07:21just go trade for one well who's giving you a great corner without without severely damaging their own
07:28team and they don't want your future assets right now like i'm not surprised baltimore doesn't want
07:34draft picks baltimore is trying to win too and in the nfl just about everybody's trying to win now
07:44just about there's very few long-term five-year plans anymore and so you know you can't always
07:53have accessibility to the player you want i am concerned about you know brad having some hard
07:59and fast rules which he shouldn't he shouldn't there are circumstances are different teams are different
08:06but you know i i think trading tesla for somebody who can come in and improve would you give up
08:12the
08:12third receiver for somebody who would start for you a corner i mean that sounds i probably would
08:19yeah wise but um is this person going to start for you and what is there like we're throwing out
08:25the
08:25name tj tampa and in baltimore just because jason lock and for i did tj tampa could be a player
08:32they
08:32absolutely loved or didn't at a college because you know brad home still has all those scouting reports
08:39and all the people that they've ever evaluated and he could be it could have been one of their
08:43all-time favorites coming out or he might have been a player that they had no interest in so it's
08:50hard
08:50to say um but i do remember us talking quite a bit about tj tampa when he was uh coming
08:58out of
08:59it was iowa state i think so yeah okay he's a bigger guy and then you know i mean that
09:04just
09:05you know if he had the right makeup now they obviously love tesla that's why they took him
09:12but i don't i don't want you to trade a player you love for a player you didn't love
09:17they more than loved them i mean they gave up picks to go get tesla
09:22anyway two four eight five three nine 97 97 but that doesn't mean you can't change your mind that
09:27was then when they moved up and gave up capital to get them maybe a couple years later thinking
09:31maybe we shouldn't have done that i'm not saying that's the case but you can always be like hey
09:35you can divert right you can detour it didn't work out i see this guy working out better with us
09:40make
09:40a move in the end i think they like tesla too much and he's going to be on the team
09:44and so if you want
09:45to go get a tj tampa or someone like that you're going to find an alternate player or future capital
09:50to
09:51give up two four eight five three nine 97 97 got some michigan football stuff want to get to today
09:57at 102 phone calls and feedback it is carson anderson here on 97 one
