Ty Simpson drafted in the first round? Jordan Tyson ahead of Carnell Tate? How much stock are you buying into these NFL Draft headlines.
Transcript
00:00It's going to be a busy week with the NFL Draft starting Thursday night.
00:03All of the draft coverage on Odyssey Sports is presented nationally by Liberty Mutual Insurance.
00:09Only pay for what you need.
00:11Is Liberty Mutual the one with the ostrich, the emu?
00:15Yeah.
00:16And Doug.
00:16Ewu-mew or something like that?
00:18Lemu-emu.
00:18Who's Doug?
00:19Lemu the emu.
00:19Doug's the guy.
00:20Lemu-emu.
00:21Oh yeah, Doug is the...
00:22I like the little commercial when they got his little son.
00:25The teacher called him to school to talk to the parent teacher.
00:27And he said, I know of your love for Liberty Mutual, but little Doug keep writing this.
00:35He said, insurance is stupid.
00:37And then mama go, at least he spelled it right.
00:39He said, he didn't.
00:42He spelled it I-N-S-U-R-E-N-S-E.
00:47Those commercials are funny as hell, dude.
00:49I like the one where they're trying to parachute into the stadium.
00:52Doug and the emu.
00:54And he wrote, you hear some wall?
00:56There's a little trail outside or whatever.
01:00Interesting information.
01:01I think you heard Dan Duggan just mention it right there.
01:05Miami tackle Mawaga, who's widely considered to be the top prospect.
01:10Yeah, it's a...
01:11I need Dr. Beamich on this.
01:14Herniated disc in his back that is considered asymptomatic.
01:19What the hell does that mean?
01:23Asymptomatic?
01:24Asymptomatic means it's no big deal, right?
01:25Normally, like, you don't really...
01:27It's not nothing that's super serious, I would guess.
01:30Back injury?
01:32Yeah, but, Jay, this...
01:34You have to realize, though, it's still lying season, bro.
01:38Yeah.
01:38You know, and who put it out?
01:42Is it the team that really wants him?
01:44Get him a little later?
01:46You know, or it's the team that wants people to back off of him so they can get him early?
01:50You know, all that stuff still plays.
01:52And I think as we get closer, we start getting the information, we react to it all.
01:57But I never forget the fact that this time of the year, you have to believe everything that you hear.
02:03Far more untruths than truths.
02:05All right, Stallion.
02:06Asymptomatic.
02:07Let's pull this up.
02:07Asymptomatic Stallion.
02:08What do you got?
02:10All right, so all the draft buzz this week, you got so many different things.
02:15We're going to see if Beamich or Finley are buying or selling the idea of some of the smoke around
02:21this.
02:22So you guys ready?
02:22Yeah.
02:23Are you guys buying the smoke around Jeremiah Love going as early as number three to the Cardinals?
02:31I'm buying it.
02:32What is, White Bride, see if, I'm locked out of my NBC email and that's where I get all of
02:37my emails from the betting companies.
02:39So I don't have access to stuff I would normally have.
02:42See if Vegas, see if there's an over-under bet on Jeremiah Love draft selection.
02:49I am not buying that Love goes three to Arizona.
02:52That's just too rich to me.
02:54I'm buying the possibilities.
02:57Asymptomatic.
02:58I'm going to read this for you real quick, Ryan.
02:59Sorry for interrupting.
03:01It's a medical condition or infection or disease that is present in the individual but does not produce any noticeable
03:07symptoms.
03:08You got a back injury but you don't have no noticeable symptoms?
03:12Something doesn't add up.
03:13Asymptomatic don't seem to fit with this.
03:15Neither of us are buying a back injury as asymptomatic.
03:19Yes, dubby.
03:20On FanDuel, Love is plus 350 for the number three pick.
03:24That's behind David Bailey and Arvell Reese.
03:27He's minus 105, the favorite, to go number four.
03:32All right.
03:33I do not understand how Robert Salah with his first pick in a new operation is going to take a
03:38running back at four.
03:39Yeah, but see that's the problem right there.
03:40A lot of times just because you're the head coach don't mean you decide what happens.
03:44And if I am a general manager right now and I got a quarterback of that kid's ilk that's there
03:48right now,
03:49I am going to get me something to help him more than I am just worried about it.
03:52Robert Salah, he should be a damn defense whisperer.
03:57We'll see.
03:58White Bryant's favorite player in the draft is, we all know this, quarterback Ty Simpson from Alabama.
04:04And he actually had a visit, a one-on-one visit, I believe, with the Cardinals this past week.
04:10Are you buying that he could be sneaking his way into the first round?
04:14I think he could be in the first round already.
04:16But later, I don't think he's going number two or three.
04:21No way do I think he's going three.
04:23But could a team trade back into the first round like similar to Lamar Jackson back when the Raiders did?
04:28No, I can see that.
04:29I can see in the 20s.
04:30I just don't see up there.
04:33Yeah.
04:35Quarterbacks like JP always say, they get overdrafted all the time.
04:40And if he was considered to go second, somebody may say, let me get him at the end of the
04:44first.
04:45And I think that could happen.
04:46They keep him for five years at that point, right?
04:48I think the earliest I could see that, like the Steelers at 21, although they just did that with Pickett,
04:54I don't think they're going to do it again.
04:56Well, he got big hands, so he might be better than Pickett.
04:58Like, one of these teams that has multiple second rounders, the Dolphins at 30.
05:05You know what I mean?
05:06The Dolphins at 30, I could see.
05:08I just, if you're telling me over under 20 for Ty Simpson, I'll go over.
05:15Confidently.
05:16That's a fair point.
05:17I don't know if he's a top guy, but I guess we'll just have to see for Thursday night.
05:21Who even is QB desperate at this point?
05:24The Jets, certainly.
05:26Could the Jets take him at 16?
05:29Maybe.
05:30That's kind of the take.
05:31What the hell do the Vikings have?
05:34Yeah.
05:35The Vikings at 18.
05:36There's chances.
05:38We know Cleveland is nuts.
05:40They might drop another quarterback.
05:41Cleveland is at 24.
05:43But if you look at the back half of that draft, Seahawks aren't taking a quarterback.
05:47Pats aren't taking a quarterback.
05:49The Chiefs aren't taking a quarterback.
05:51Texans?
05:53CJ Stroud was bad, bad.
05:54He was awful.
05:55Bad, bad.
05:57Niners aren't taking a quarterback.
05:59Bills, Bears.
06:01Could.
06:01I got them.
06:02I mean, nobody's a wilder dude than Howie.
06:07Billy?
06:08I don't know.
06:10It's possible.
06:11That article that came out about Hurts had some people inside the building spilling the
06:15tea about the quarterback.
06:17Yeah.
06:17Yeah.
06:18Now, the owner says he loves him, but.
06:20Well, that's the only person that really matters when it comes down to it.
06:23Right.
06:24Ty Simpson ain't going ahead of 20.
06:27I don't think so either.
06:28Well, speaking of spilling the tea, Brett Veach, this past week while meeting with the
06:32media, he is predicting a ton of movement in round one.
06:37I mean, we've heard the rumors.
06:40Nothing's really happening yet besides the Bengals making their move with number 10 with
06:44Dexter Lawrence.
06:45That's a big move.
06:46And it's a big move.
06:47But are you guys buying a ton of movement?
06:49And we've seen Matt Miller predict, I believe, up to eight trades in round one.
06:53Listen.
06:53Listen, it's hard to say I'm buying because we never know until one team finally makes
07:01a move.
07:01Then other people, they jump on it and try to get with it.
07:04I think it will be some movement.
07:06I don't know if it gets as high as eight.
07:09I'd say about six.
07:11Does the one that's already happened count?
07:13Yeah.
07:13Yeah.
07:14We'll take that.
07:15Yeah.
07:15If it was a draft pick trade, that's one right there.
07:18I think there will be a ton of movement.
07:23Eight seems like a lot.
07:24But this draft is really not considered to be a great one.
07:31And I think if teams can move around and move up even, and it only requires other picks
07:38from this draft, I think they're going to be more willing to do it.
07:41I think teams will be more willing to.
07:43All right.
07:44We love Lemon.
07:45Lemon, he's available at 15.
07:48We're holding 26, but we give him 26 and 90 and we can get to 15.
07:53Let's do it.
07:54I do think there will be more willingness to move around picks in this year's draft.
08:01Yeah.
08:01I just think every time the draft is considered great, it's a lot of quarterbacks in it.
08:05Sure.
08:05But if 15 teams end up with top-notch players, that's great in my book.
08:11The standout to me that differentiates this draft, you're completely right about quarterbacks.
08:15The draft as a vehicle is quarterback-driven, which could set up for an outrageous draft
08:20in D.C. next summer.
08:23But you don't have premium position studs.
08:26You don't have a corner that mandates a top-five pick.
08:30You don't have a receiver that mandates a top-five pick.
08:33You know what I mean?
08:34The best left tackle has an asymptomatic back injury.
08:37But I understand that.
08:38But see, for me, my process is different than I would say most.
08:42Everybody look at when you got drafted.
08:43I look at how the hell you produced.
08:45Sure.
08:45So, I think we'll find out how good this draft was in about two, three years, four years.
08:50Totally.
08:51If, let's say, Mansoor or Ponds end up being picked, and these guys end up being two of
08:56the top corners out there.
08:58They're all right.
08:58You know, you look at Reese and, you know, Bain and all these guys.
09:05We may be looking at this later saying, you know what?
09:07There wasn't no damn quarterbacks in it, but they had nothing but studs in it.
09:10Totally.
09:10Totally.
09:11What else you got, Stallion?
09:12All right, so, Carnell Tate has been kind of the wide receiver that it feels as if people
09:18aren't really talking a lot about right now.
09:20Like, he is still the big-name Ohio State guy, but before the draft, or really before
09:25the offseason started, he was the consensus number one receiver.
09:29And now it's like Jordan Tyson.
09:31There's a couple of other sexy names in there.
09:33Are you still buying that Carnell Tate is the top wide receiver in this year's draft class?
09:39I still buy it.
09:39I just think that other people like other guys, or they like their talent.
09:44All of them say this.
09:45If this wasn't, if this hadn't happened, he'll be number one.
09:48If that hadn't happened, it happened, though.
09:51So, does it seem like, have they succeeded him?
09:55Or, someone is saying what could have been if these things weren't there.
09:59Yeah, just like they say, if uncle, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, you know what I'm saying?
10:03My aunt was bam, would it be my uncle?
10:05Same thing right there.
10:07Just trying to keep my job.
10:09I get it.
10:09I don't know that Carnell Tate is the consensus number one wide receiver in this class.
10:15That doesn't mean he, for me, with Carnell Tate, I think he has the highest floor of any
10:20of these receivers we're discussing.
10:21I think you have a better chance of Carnell Tate being a 1,000-yard wide receiver in the NFL
10:28than Lemon or Tyson.
10:31But, like, I wonder if Tyson doesn't have the highest ceiling.
10:37You're fighting hamstring injuries, right?
10:39And that could be something that lingers through his whole career.
10:42That could be something that he didn't think he was making that much NIL
10:45and just didn't want to play that much at Arizona State.
10:47Like, the calculus for looking at a perhaps down season in college
10:52or a player not pushing through injuries in college, I think it's changed some.
10:56But what do you think the question popped up is that he was in college,
11:03if he wasn't getting top dollar, then he might not have been that top dude.
11:08It's a fair question.
11:09How about that?
11:09So the Jungs had this dude Daniel Kelly on this morning who was a former Jets scout.
11:13He compared Carnell Tate to Art Monk.
11:15That's pretty crazy.
