Are you as addicted as Stoney?
Transcript
00:00So we were up against it, but I thought I heard you say something,
00:04and I'm going, oh, boy.
00:06Did you say you are addicted to watching this baseball team?
00:09I watch all of our home teams games.
00:12That's not what the question was.
00:14Well, yes.
00:15You said you weren't going out tonight because you're addicted.
00:18I'm going to watch a Tiger game.
00:20To this team.
00:20Yeah.
00:21Do you hate yourself?
00:23Like, are you a masochist?
00:25To a certain extent, yes.
00:27Watching is one thing.
00:28But when you say you're addicted to watching this.
00:31Addicted is a little strong.
00:32You said it.
00:33I know I did.
00:34I said it's a little strong, but yes.
00:36I, you know, I enjoy certain parts of watching young players that are exciting.
00:44And then I get disgusted by watching, although last night the bullpen was pretty good.
00:48But other than that, yeah, they're a weird freaking team.
00:52In one of the worst divisions, worst American leagues in my lifetime.
00:57Which is every reason why I'm shocked you're addicted to watching.
01:03Like, you know what?
01:04It's because in certain aspects, just like the phone book, I'm old school.
01:09I believe with the job that I have, I need to watch the home teams play in as many games
01:16as possible.
01:17Now, like Sunday, I was out golfing, so I didn't play.
01:21The other night, Friday night, we were at the dinner.
01:23The game wasn't on on TV at the restaurant that I went to.
01:26So, I mean, I'm not completely crazed.
01:29My daughter goes, let's watch the Tiger game.
01:32I said, all right.
01:33Let me watch the Tiger game.
01:35I know.
01:37See, if, okay.
01:38If given the choice of watching every night or never watching this team again, it would be choice B.
01:42I understand.
01:42I'm ready for next year.
01:44I can't.
01:45This team has exhausted the emotional reserves of me watching baseball.
01:50And I get it.
01:50And especially the fact that, you know, that they are in this, I wouldn't even call it a pennant race.
01:56It's a playoff race.
01:58You know, the battle of the crap.
02:02You know, everybody's excited or was excited before this weekend.
02:06But since the trade deadline, you know, they're really good, right?
02:09They're 10-3 against teams who are combined.
02:14Garbage.
02:1466 games under .500.
02:17Correct.
02:17They're 0-3 against the one team that's over .500.
02:21Look, my whole point to anyone is you are free to do whatever you want.
02:25This isn't North Korea.
02:26No.
02:27But I don't know anybody who wants to watch this team every night and enjoys it.
02:32If you're doing it out of sense of duty, that's one thing.
02:35Yeah.
02:35Saying you're addicted to it means you actually enjoy it.
02:38No.
02:38This team, this has been three years of this.
02:40They're exhausting.
02:42I'm of, look, I mean, I'll do what I need to do.
02:45But, Stoney, if you want me to, like, lock in and be passionate about it, I'll see you mid-September.
02:50They got to earn that.
02:51I'm not passionate.
02:52It's just on.
02:53For some, you know, and I'll flip around.
02:55Even when I watch, it's on mute.
02:57Yeah.
02:58Can't do it.
02:58Although, last night was interesting because the guy sounded just like Joe Buck.
03:03Kevin Brown.
03:04It was on ESPN.
03:06Yeah.
03:06I thought Joe Buck, I thought it was a young Joe Buck.
03:08No, he did not sound like Joe Buck last night.
03:10Yes, he did.
03:11Gator thought he sounded exactly like Joe Buck, actually.
03:15Oh, well, that settles it.
03:15Well.
03:16I leave my opinion to myself.
03:18I understand that.
03:20I thought he sounded like Joe Buck.
03:22But, you know, they're going to be fun to watch next year.
03:29That's my point.
03:30I can be excited about next year.
03:32I can't be excited about this.
03:34I'm not negative about it.
03:35I'm not excited about it.
03:37Stoney, the problem I have in this town, and I blame you, the whole problem is I was getting
03:42yelled at Friday.
03:44I said, guys, I'm just staying neutral with this team.
03:46I'm not going to do the whole, you know, this town is one big boner pill when it comes
03:51to the Tigers.
03:51And then what did I do Monday, yesterday?
03:54I didn't make fun of them.
03:55No.
03:56I said, this is the worst AL ever.
03:58Okay, I'm not going to be the guy to get all goofy like Jeremy Otto does, and then I'm
04:02not going to make fun of them.
04:03No, I'm not doing that either.
04:04I just watch because I, you know, want to see how.
04:09You want to see what?
04:10What do you want to see?
04:11I want to see Max Clark.
04:12I love watching him play McGonagall.
04:16Valencia's fun to watch.
04:17You know, their young players are fun to watch.
04:20Okay.
04:21All right, listen.
04:22I'll leave it alone.
04:23You'll do whatever you want.
04:24Look, when I was a kid, I grew up.
04:26The Phillies were awful up until like 1965 to 1970s.
04:31I lived the same thing with the Yankees.
04:32I know.
04:33Don Mattingly didn't make the playoffs until his last year in 95.
04:35I know.
04:36I mean, your father could tell you about the 60s and how bad the Yankees were with Roy
04:40White and Horace Clark.
04:41Okay?
04:41I get that.
04:42And that's, so the Tigers, I'm used to this.
04:46Listen, they're going to be in it because no one can take them out of it.
04:49Correct.
04:50It's one big pathetic pool of oatmeal.
04:53I know.
04:53So I'll see you in September.
04:55I just do whatever you want.
04:56I know.
04:57We have people going bananas Friday and I'm going, what planet are you people on?
05:01And then what did they do?
05:02Yeah.
05:03They pooped in bed.
05:03We had update guys basically with their pants around our ankles doing three minute updates.
05:08You know, if they, if they sweep, they'll be in first.
05:10They did not.
05:11No.
05:11Like that, that's, it's going to be a roller coaster the rest of the year.
05:14So just stay neutral.
05:16Exactly.
05:16That's what I'm doing.
05:17I'm watching.
05:17I'm making sure.
05:18You said you were addicted.
05:19Well, my emotions are fine.
05:21I just watch, but I, so basically it's PBS for you.
05:26Yes.
05:27I watch.
05:29Tony is emotionally bereft.
05:31I watch.
05:36I watch.
05:38I watched the documentary the yesterday, the, the, the real wolf of wall street.
05:43It was excellent.
05:43It was really good.
05:44They did a good job with it.
05:45Yes.
05:46Proud, proud graduate of the American university.
05:49I don't know.
05:50I don't know if I'd list that one.
05:51All right.
05:51We'll go to the people.
05:52We'll go to Dylan 97.
05:53One Dylan, what's going on?
05:55Oh, not much, Mike.
05:57I'm just calling you back to let you know that my stance still hasn't changed.
06:01I feel just as good after this weekend.
06:03I just think that they're good.
06:05They're not going to win every series.
06:07And to be honest, I just think the white socks had a good series.
06:10Dylan, I'm, and I'm going to be honest with you.
06:12I got, I'm going to be very real with you.
06:14I don't care.
06:15I'm shooting you straight.
06:17Like I get it.
06:17You called Friday.
06:18You wanted to make a bet that I don't really want to make.
06:20Cause I'm not taking your money, but fine.
06:22I didn't make fun of them for losing to the white socks.
06:25I'm neutral.
06:26You're pie in the sky with this team.
06:28I'm not.
06:28And that's okay, but I'm not going to do this now.
06:32Every three days you want to call up and try to break balls.
06:34Go win.
06:35I'm not breaking balls.
06:36I just wanted to call up and let you know that I'm still just as optimistic.
06:41Great.
06:41I really, I really, I really don't think really that series has much of an impact on how the
06:47season is going to end.
06:48Like I said, they're going to lose a series.
06:49Yeah.
06:50Because they lose to the only team that's had a winning record since the trade deadline.
06:54We'll see what happens the rest of the series with Pittsburgh, who stinks to almost one
06:59that came back yesterday.
07:01And then they're at Kansas city who they couldn't even beat in a series here three weeks ago.
07:05Right.
07:06They split with them.
07:07And then you got Tampa and the Dodgers coming in town.
07:10That's going to be, that's going to be the side.
07:13You still got to beat the bad teams, right?
07:16Yeah.
07:17Most good teams, most good teams beat the bad teams and they do halfway decent to some of
07:22them do really good against a good team.
07:24Well, we're not that.
07:26I mean, the record says they're that.
07:28No, it doesn't.
07:29The record says they stink.
07:32They're under 500.
07:33Come on.
07:34It's okay to be an idiot like me and watch them, but have some, Dylan, Dylan, some nuance.
07:40No nuance is just look at the fricking standings.
07:44Nuance is what I told you.
07:45They're 10 and three against teams with a combined 66 games under 500.
07:50They're Owen three against one team who's six games over 500.
07:54They're not a really good baseball team.
07:57They're not.
07:57I didn't say really good.
07:58I didn't say really good.
07:59I said they're a good baseball team.
08:01Okay.
08:01All right.
08:01Sorry.
08:02We'll take the word really and throw it in the gutter.
08:07Don't words have meaning?
08:08I thought words had meaning unless they don't.
08:10Okay.
08:11Really?
08:12I thought records have meaning.
08:14Yes.
08:14They're not good.
08:15You're right.
08:16But guess what though, David?
08:17I know records have meaning, but the other thing along with that is you have to take into
08:21consideration what was the circumstances.
08:23Do circumstances not matter in society anymore?
08:26Do we just throw them out the window?
08:27Oh, so you mean the fact that they had a losing record before the injuries in May?
08:32Got you.
08:34So they can, it was the beginning of the year, right?
08:36They had a losing record.
08:37I understand that.
08:38But then they got piled on and it just snowballed and made things work.
08:41Okay, come on.
08:42The New York Yankees just, Max Free just got put on the aisle again.
08:45Judge hasn't played since like three Christmases ago.
08:49Stanton's hurt.
08:49And I can't, I'm not a big Yankee fan like the guy across the street, across the street,
08:53across the aisle from me here.
08:55I'm just sitting here listening.
08:57I know.
08:57But please, yes, the Tigers had an exorbitant round of injuries, but so do a lot of other
09:03teams.
09:04I don't want to hear the injury stuff.
09:06Seriously.
09:06That's ridiculous.
09:07I'm just letting you guys fight.
09:08I'm not, I'm not doing it.
09:10I just, I don't.
09:11Dylan's on his own little, little island.
09:14I'm just trying to be realistic and by the way, I got mad at me Friday because he wanted
09:19to make a bet.
09:20They're going to make the ALCS.
09:21Was that the guy who bought you a steak dinner?
09:23Yeah.
09:23And I said, listen, I'll bet you the dinner, but I ain't taking one back.
09:26If they make the ALCS, I'll buy you dinner.
09:28I don't want your money.
09:30Like you can't win with Dylan.
09:32Dylan is on some form of optimism crack.
09:34They can still win.
09:35There's some kind of crack that comes in a Ziploc bag and you, you, you, you do the crack
09:40and you end up like Dylan in positivity land.
09:43I don't, I can't, so I sat here.
09:45I let you guys yell and scream and do whatever you want.
09:47I can't do it.
09:48And it's possible they can't make the playoffs with a below 500 record.
09:52I have said from the beginning here, they are a 50, 50 coin flip to get in.
09:57Not because they're good, but because everything around them is so bad.
10:00Yeah.
10:00But like, would a guy like Dylan, I just sat here.
10:03I let you guys battle out.
10:05I can't, I can't do it.
10:06By the way, David, I just got a text from a guy who's very reputable.
10:13Devin Skillian.
10:14He says he sounded exactly like Joe Buck.
10:17I thought he was going to say no eagle.
10:19It's a wig.
10:20Damn it.
10:20This is the guy.
10:21Come on, Devin.
10:23Ask Devin if he thinks no eagles got a sky piece on.
10:25All right.
10:26I want his opinion.
10:27He's a, he's a first class individual in this town.
10:30Come on.
10:30Yes, he is.
10:31I'll stand down, Devin.
10:32No eagle, sky piece.
10:34All right.
10:35Let me take care of some business.
