00:00Southern England saw its driest month ever recorded in July.
00:04Well, is there any more rainfall on the cards for the next 10 days of August?
00:08Well, there is a chance of at least some rainfall,
00:10but no significant changes to our weather pattern over the next 10 days.
00:15As high pressure is going to remain pretty close by,
00:18particularly to more southern and eastern areas,
00:20but also going to hold on to areas of low pressure at times,
00:24bringing that chance of rainfall.
00:26And throughout this week, we have had quite a lot of rain across more northwestern areas.
00:31Through the rest of this week, that will change a little bit.
00:33It will turn a bit drier for a few days across the north and west
00:35as a ridge of higher pressure pushes in to these areas.
00:39So Thursday will be a brighter day for the north and west.
00:42Still a chance of the odd shower across Northern Ireland and the far west of Scotland,
00:46but considerably drier than it has been the past few days.
00:49Elsewhere, it will be feeling much fresher as well than the past few days have been.
00:53Temperatures much closer to average, the high teens or the low 20s in the far south.
00:59And you will notice the freshness in the air compared to that humid air we've had earlier on this week.
01:05Similar story as we head into Friday, the end of the week.
01:09High pressure builds in across more southern areas.
01:11We start to see the next weather front pushing from the north and west,
01:15and that will become more of a feature as we head towards the weekend.
01:18So a wetter day to come across parts of north and western Scotland on Friday.
01:23Elsewhere, though, dry with plenty of warm sunshine.
01:26It will feel warmer on Friday compared to Thursday.
01:28Temperatures climbing towards the mid-20s in the south, the low 20s for many other areas.
01:34So still a pretty warm day despite the change of air mass compared to earlier on this week.
01:40As we head into the weekend, we start the weekend with two systems out to the west of the UK.
01:45This frontal system out to the northwest and this low pressure down to the southwest.
01:51And they're going to approach each other, merging into one system.
01:54And as we start to pull up these southerly winds,
01:57temperatures will rise a little throughout the weekend for just two days or so,
02:02across parts of England and Wales in particular.
02:04So these weather fronts merge, becoming a cold front that will sink south and eastwards
02:09throughout Saturday and into Sunday.
02:11But into Sunday, as it approaches more central and eastern areas, it will break up,
02:16bringing a chance of some rainfall.
02:18But the rain is going to be much less than it would have been further north and west.
02:23As through Saturday, we are expecting some quite heavy rainfall across parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland.
02:28Some heavy downpours as well as strong southerly winds.
02:32So it's going to feel quite cool across more north and western areas.
02:35Further south, though, as I mentioned, temperatures peaking throughout Saturday and Sunday.
02:40In the high 20s for some areas of England and Wales on Saturday.
02:44Possibly 30 degrees on Sunday in the far south and east.
02:49So away from this wet weather across the northwest, it is going to be a hot day across much of
02:54England and Wales.
02:55We could see some of this rainfall pushing into the very far southwest through Saturday afternoon.
03:00But I think the focus of any rainfall will be across the northwest where this weather front lies.
03:05Now that pushes south and eastwards throughout the night on Saturday night into Sunday,
03:10bringing some rain to parts of Wales, northern England.
03:12And by Sunday morning, it will lie across parts of northern England down towards the Midlands.
03:17As we head into the afternoon, it will likely break up, bringing some cloudier skies, some showery rain at times.
03:24It's not going to be reliable rain across more southern areas into the afternoon,
03:28but it is at least a chance of some rainfall.
03:32So we're ahead of the weather front across the very far southeast on Sunday.
03:36So temperatures here across parts of East Anglia, the very far southeast of England,
03:40could climb towards 30 degrees, most likely the high 20s.
03:45To the west of the weather front, it's going to be a cooler day on Sunday compared to Saturday,
03:51as we're into cooler air from the north and west.
03:53This is the temperature difference from Saturday to Sunday.
03:56As you can see across much of England and Wales, a considerably cooler day.
04:00For some areas, as much as 7 to 10 degrees cooler across some areas of England and Wales.
04:06But it is going to be a hotter day across the south and east,
04:09and I think likely quite humid as well as we head into Sunday.
04:12So some rainfall is on the way through this weekend.
04:15The focus of it will be across more northwestern areas, western areas of Scotland, northern Ireland,
04:21and some areas of northwest England seeing some further rainfall.
04:24Further south, we're likely to see some rain, but perhaps just five millimetres at best.
04:30So nothing significant in the forecast for more southern areas.
04:34And as we head into next week, we'll see low pressure nearby,
04:37bringing further chances of rainfall across the UK.
04:41But I think the focus is going to remain across more north and western areas through much of the week.
04:47The next area of low pressure through Sunday night into Monday starts to arrive from the south and west.
04:53It's quite a large area of low pressure.
04:55We've got quite high confidence in the position of it.
04:58Ahead of that, we've got a ridge of high pressure, so it will likely be a fairly fine start to
05:02the week.
05:02But by the afternoon, we are expecting rain to push in from the south and west.
05:07You can see this is where precipitation, where rainfall is likely.
05:10This is the most likely setup with low pressure out to the west, bringing in rainfall to more western areas.
05:17In the east, we could see some of this rain, but I think the focus of it will once again
05:21be across the west.
05:24Into the middle of next week, the 12th of August, the most likely scenario is for that high pressure across
05:29the near continent
05:30to push up from the south, bringing with it that drier weather to more central and eastern areas
05:35and driving any low pressures up to the north and west.
05:38So, very similar to how this week's been.
05:41The focus of much of the rainfall will be across more northwestern areas, at least through the middle part of
05:46next week.
05:47And southerly winds could move in for a time through the middle of the week,
05:50and that could pick temperatures up for a short period as well.
05:54Now, by Friday, we start to have lower confidence in the forecast.
05:58Still low pressure nearby, pushing in from the south and west.
06:02But high pressure also continuing to build in from the near continent.
06:07So, we could see a lot of the area of low pressure pushing from the north and west,
06:12pushing from the south and west up to the north and west.
06:14But again, much of the rainfall is going to become a little bit more focused across the northwest
06:20through Friday, by Friday, the 14th of August.
06:24We are going to see continuation of low pressures moving in from the Atlantic, though, next week.
06:30And that will bring an increasing chance of some rainfall across more southern and eastern areas.
06:37This is the meteogram for the next two weeks for Reading.
06:41And you can see this is the precipitation.
06:43Now, there's no significant precipitation in the next two weeks,
06:47but you can see that increasing chance of some rainfall in the second half of the next two weeks.
06:54And that's because we start to pick up more southwesterly winds at times.
06:59So, our jet stream could become a little bit more south shifted,
07:02driving those low pressure systems down to the south.
07:05So, I think we'll see more rain in the forecast, a slow erosion in the very dry weather we've seen
07:11recently,
07:11but no significant sudden change to much wetter weather.
07:16Now, what does that mean for the temperatures?
07:18Well, if we zoom in to the temperatures here, you can see the reds are the maximum temperatures.
07:22The spread gives us an idea of the confidence.
07:25And temperatures will remain pretty close to average for most of the next two weeks for more southern areas.
07:32But we will see peaks of temperatures climbing into the high 20s,
07:36possibly lower 30s at times through the next two weeks,
07:40just when we pick up more of those southerly winds.
07:42So, we're not expecting any prolonged hot weather, but temperatures will generally be average or above average.
07:49So, it's still going to remain pretty warm,
07:51even though we'll see an increased chance of rain and more in the way of cloud as well.
07:56If we look further north, you can see that we'll see, again, an increased chance of rainfall,
08:01a greater chance of that rainfall from the get-go in the next two weeks.
08:05And that chance continues to be relatively high into the second half of the two weeks.
08:10And it's a very similar trend temperature-wise, with spikes in the temperature coming and going,
08:16particularly through the middle part of next week.
08:18Temperatures climbing quite high, particularly Tuesday into Wednesday,
08:22when we pick up those southerly winds and pull in that high pressure from the near continent.
08:27So, a slightly more changeable picture in the forecast.
08:30More rainfall, particularly across more northwestern areas.
08:34In the south and east, it's going to stay largely dry,
08:36but at least a chance is on the way of some rain.
