00:05During the operation, officers discovered the carcass suspected to be that of a sea turtle,
00:11together with a quantity of turtle meat and turtle eggs,
00:15believed to have been unlawfully removed from a nesting site.
00:19Two suspects were subsequently arrested, and the matter remains under active investigation.
00:25Sea turtles are protected under the laws of Trinidad and Tobago.
00:30And are designated as environmentally sensitive species under the Environmental Management Act.
00:36The hunting, killing, possession, or sale of sea turtles and their eggs are serious criminal offenses.
00:44Upon conviction, offenders may be liable to a fine of up to $100,000 imprisonment for up to two years
00:55or both.
00:55The Department of Natural Resources and Forestry has commended the professionalism and vigilance of the officers involved
01:03and reminds members of the public that wildlife crimes can be reported to the Department
01:09or the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
