01:59And until they do, they're going to spin their wheels.

02:33There are good, solid, fun things to watch with this team.

02:41If this team, especially the young talent on this team, can continue to progress offensively towards becoming watchable.

04:29lost by three touchdowns.

04:33And so it's pointless keeping a guy that can give you all-time performances, can set NFL
04:39records, can win defensive player of the year.
04:42No shade at Miles Garrett.
04:43But he ain't helping you win anything.
04:46You aren't winning anything with the guy.
04:48That's what scares me just a smidge.
04:50I understand that.
04:51Is that, like, I thought you were kind of maybe going to take a small step back when
04:54you lost Schwartz, but then when you lose Garrett...
04:57But here's the thing.
05:01The Browns last year won five games with an offense that scored...
05:09With a team that averaged 16.4 points per game.
05:13They could have won seven last year with that same production.
05:18Had special teams showed up against the Jets, okay, and made a tackle or two, that's win

05:26And had the defense been able to get Carson Wentz, of all people, off the field in London,

05:34Now, I know we're dipping into the ifs and buts and candy and nuts jar and...

05:39And they are what they are.
05:41They're a five-win team.
05:43But they could have won seven games last year with that god-awful, unwatchable, unproductive
05:49offense.
05:51So that's why I say, for me, the sweet spot for them, I think their low bar is six wins,
05:57and I think their high bar is around eight.

06:42The question is, can these rookie receivers, Denzel Boston and Casey Concepcion, be as productive
06:49as I believe them to be able to be?
06:51Can Harold Fannin Jr. be more productive?
06:54And he was really productive as a rookie.
06:56But can that go up a notch, right, with better quarterback play?
07:00Can Quinshawn Judkins play at the same level we saw as a rookie coming off the injury and
07:08as good as he's looked in the workouts in the spring program and all that, right?
07:12Those are questions, right?
07:14But, again, looking at through a non-cynical and a realistic lens, yeah, there's a lot
07:24to be excited about with this football team.
07:27The quarterback's not so much right now.
07:29That can change, though.
07:31I need them to win.
07:32They've got six weeks in training camp to change my mind on the quarterback situation.
07:39Really, when I look at this roster, that's my biggest criticism.
07:43The quarterbacks.
07:45Okay?
07:45I mean, it's fair.
07:46They've put resources.
07:47Whether it'll work or whether it won't is to be seen.

07:50But you do have to give Barry credit.
07:52He invested resources this offseason into the offensive line.
07:56We wanted him to do that.
07:57And in the receivers, we wanted him to do that.
07:59And we'll see how it comes together.

08:09It feels like it, I think, because of the quarterback situation, because we have to do another one
08:14of these mind-numbing quarterback competitions.

08:27And so, that's what I've been telling my friends that are Browns fans.
08:32Because, no, if it was a waste of your time, I'd tell you.

08:38And there have been years, yes, I have told them, yeah, this is going to be a waste of

08:45This guy was right.
08:46It ultimately ended up being a waste of their time.
08:49I don't think this year is going to be a waste of your time.
08:51But, yes, the quarterback is a major, major question mark slash ongoing problem.

08:59If they could find that guy, if they find that guy, guess what my six to eight wins becomes?

09:18Todd Munkin, extremely organized and consistent, if you will.
09:25Like, all the practices are at 1.30 in the afternoon.
09:28Now, I think a big part of that has to do with the first two games on the schedule.
09:34Because they will have to go to Jacksonville and then have to go to Tampa.
09:38And there are two places on this planet you do not want to have to go in the month of
09:42September
09:43to go play a football game.
09:44It would be Jacksonville and Tampa because it's a sauna down there in Florida, usually in September.
09:53So, certainly going to get his guys physically prepared for dealing with the heat of the afternoon
10:03by having these guys practice in it all throughout camp every day at 1.30 in the afternoon.

10:12That's rare, by the way.
10:14Very rare that we get that same consistency across the board.

10:20Just about, like, going into this camp, obviously a new coach with Todd.
10:24I wonder, Daryl, if we're going to get some tough practices.
10:28Oh, I guarantee you, he is going to use every minute that he's allowed, and they're going
10:36to be in pads as much as they're allowed.

10:40And I think they're going to hit as much as they're allowed.
10:43It's going to be hot.
10:44It's going to be sweaty.
10:45These guys are going to be sick of each other by the end of it.
10:48And I think that's what Todd wants.
10:50You know, like, he is such an old-school football guy, and he loves this stuff.
10:54Like, that was one of my huge learnings from being out there at OTAs and mandatory camp
11:01voluntary, all that stuff.
11:03And hearing Todd talk after all of those practices, you could see his excitement level for coaching
11:09this team increase with every single practice that went by.
11:14So I do think he is definitely going to want to coach this training camp to its absolute
11:20fullest extent.
11:21And that kind of also makes me believe that this is not a situation where we're going
11:26to get an answer on this quarterback competition early in camp.
11:30I think he's going to let this thing play out and see as many practices as humanly possible
11:35with these guys wearing the pads before he makes this call.
11:39My prediction, we will go through the Buffalo preseason game before having a starter.

12:01wanted to, I think the right option is letting it go as long as possible to see all the variables.
12:10Like, I want to see, I am genuinely curious to see how Shador would look against Buffalo's
12:15defense.
12:16I'm curious to see how Deshaun's going to look against any defense.

12:20You know, let alone Buffalo.
12:21So, so I do think that that is a great, like, we're not going to have one before then.
12:26I actually wish they were doing more.

12:36And, and the reason for that is because you learn a lot in those joint practices.

12:47It's a situation where, and we've seen this in years past, the starters don't even have
12:51to play the preseason game because they do the work in that controlled environment.
12:55We've seen that in joint practices against the Eagles, the Giants, the Vikings.
13:03Um, but the reason that joint practice is so very important is because you're no longer
13:12going against your teammates.
13:13You, you have a different opponent on the field.
13:18Yes, it is a controlled environment, but how you're responding in that controlled environment,
13:24I can't begin to tell you, Nick, the accuracy with how, after watching them, you're able
13:36to predict how the season's going to go.
13:39Because you'll be, you'll be able to see some things that maybe you wouldn't necessarily
13:44recognize or see.
13:45When it's just like Cleveland's offense going Cleveland's defense.
13:48And, and, and a lot of times it's the ones V the twos, uh, and, and vice versa offense
13:54for defense and all that.

13:56Um, so it's, it's, it's going to be critically important.
14:02I think for, uh, Todd Munkin and the Browns, that joint practice and how it goes.
14:08And that's why I don't think there will be a quarterback named.
14:12The only way I think a quarterback gets named is if something happens.

14:20You, you, you, you want this thing to be decided by the merits on the field, best player wins,

14:38And obviously when they traded Kenny Pickett, remember earlier when I was talking about like
14:41the whole waste of time thing that last year was a waste of time.

14:49Your week one starter did not get meaningful snaps in training camp.
14:54But if Shador could come on strong here, these first couple of weeks out of camp, I'm telling
14:59you, that's the best case scenario for the Browns.
15:01And then look good in a preseason game.

15:04Number one is always way earlier in camp.
15:07Then you realize it sneaks up.
15:08Hall of Fame game is next week.

15:11Well, I'm looking at my timeline this morning and I'm seeing practice reps from a couple
15:17of teams around the league already.

15:19So that first preseason game will sneak up.
15:22But then that second week, week two of the preseason when you got Buffalo, some point
15:27in the middle of that week, and then you're going to play the Bills at the stadium that
15:31weekend.
15:31I just looked up at the television in the studio.

16:38But dude, it makes you think that if Shador could come out strong here, put together a
16:43good couple weeks out of the gate.

16:48Shador came on strong in minicamp.
16:51He needs to be consistent.
16:54And I'm going to tell you right now, the winner of this quarterback competition is going to
16:59be the most consistent guy.

17:04And folks need to also understand that it's not going to be just about the quarterback trackers
17:12and completion percentages and all that kind of stuff on the practice field.
17:15I'm talking about most consistent from the moment they walk in the door.
17:21Going through the various off-the-field non-practice activities within the building.
17:29Including film sessions and meetings and lifting and all that stuff.
17:37Okay?
17:38The most consistent guy.
17:40That's where Shador needs to grow, in my view, the most.
17:45Is with consistency.
17:47Because you see flashes of it with him.
17:51But it needs to be consistent.
17:53On the flip side, the other guy, Deshaun, also needs to be consistent.
17:57You can't throw a beautiful 35-yard back shoulder, okay?
18:03And then on the next play, kill the worm on a screen pass.
18:07Or miss a guy by five yards on a screen pass.
18:10So far, based on what you've seen, consistency-wise, where are you at?
18:16I think they're pretty level playing field.
18:17I've seen flashes of brilliance from both.
18:20And I've seen moments that have made me want to literally rip the hair out of my skull from both.
18:25They're both consistently inconsistent.
18:27And that's the problem.
18:29And that's why I say the quarterback competition thing, even though it's going to dominate our conversation throughout training camp
18:36and what we're watching for in training camp and things like that,
18:38that's why it's not a good thing for the Browns.
18:40Because neither one of these guys has shown consistency yet.
18:43That's not to say that we don't start seeing that here in camp from one or both, okay?
18:53But it wasn't there in the off-season program.
18:58And there's a reason you're having a quarterback competition.
19:02It's because you don't have a guy.
19:04You're hoping you find a guy through the competition.
19:07You don't have a guy.
19:09Well, Shador's fans have told us for months and months and months and months and months.
19:13I don't care what Shador's fans have told us.
19:16That when he gets hot, Daryl, when he gets hot, he's a force to be reckoned with.

19:22And you see some of those high-scoring games that he put together in Colorado.
19:26When I get hot, I'm a force to be reckoned with, too.

19:28All I'm wondering is, if he could get hot, coming out of camp, out of the gate here,
19:34and find that consistency that you're looking for,
19:38maybe it could make Munkin's decision a little bit harder than what it's already.
19:42Because I do think this is a difficult decision.
19:44You're talking about somebody that's 24 years old and Shador Sanders
19:48that showed enough promise.
19:49You don't want to ruin Shador.
19:52That's another thing that I think his fans need to hear.
