00:00People are having two different arguments here.
00:02If Deshaun Watson, I'll go ahead and give Todd Munkin his just do as a head football coach.
00:07I'm not going to sit here and destroy Todd Munkin unless Deshaun Watson goes out there
00:12and sucks up the room completely and Shador Sanders ends up doing a lot better in a quick amount of
00:16time.
00:17That's not what I'm going to do.
00:18Because I've never once said, yes, I want Shador to play and I want Shador to start.
00:25Wanting and accepting the truth are two different things.
00:28I can want somebody to go, man, what a great kid.
00:32What a great job he's done this camp.
00:35I really want to play him at safety.
00:38And then we got a guy who maybe is just a better football player.
00:44And I got to go, so-and-so's playing safety.
00:47And I got to put this other guy somewhere else.
00:50Problem is only one quarterback plays.
00:53So there's not two safeties here.
00:55We're not arguing that.
00:56We're arguing one quarterback and only one can play it at the time.
00:59And I am more than willing to accept Deshaun Watson as the starting quarterback of the Browns.
01:03The amount of money he makes, I don't give a damn in hell.
01:07He can be playing for free for all I care.
01:10In the last year of the contract, I don't think that is nearly as relevant as it would have been
01:15like even two years ago.
01:16See, that's where so many people.
01:17I think we're well beyond that.
01:19I also think it was interesting.
01:20The caller brought up, and I think he was responding to maybe other people, didn't realize it.
01:25The fact that there have been people that have talked about the draft.
01:29I just think the draft, that'll work its way out pretty cleanly.
01:33Like, we'll know five games in.
01:35If they're just, if they're one and four, then I think we all know where this is going to go.
01:40Young players are going to play, and they're probably going to just lose games because that's what teams that start
01:47a bunch of young players that start out one and four do.
01:49They end up losing a bunch of games.
01:51I mean, that's just what happens.
01:53You know, they could, it's hard because of their history is so bad.
01:58So, it makes it impossible to sit there during a bad season.
02:03Like, if they're a bad, if they have a bad season this year, it is so difficult to say, yeah,
02:09there's talent on this team.
02:10Because there's been talent on the team before.
02:12Again, they had six Pro Bowlers one year.
02:14The year they went, back when the Pro Bowl was actually something, they had six Pro Bowlers in a year
02:19that they won four games.
02:21And I could look at it and go, gosh, you guys got a lot of talent here.
02:23If you get the quarterback situation figured out, yeah, but we've said that so many times as fans, it doesn't
02:28mean anything anymore.
02:29So, until they do anything, it doesn't matter.
02:32Like, you brought up Aaron Schatz.
02:35You've been wanting to talk about this all morning.
02:36Aaron Schatz says they have the fourth best roster of guys under 25 years old.
02:41Sounds like a good football team.
02:43And if they win five games, you say that and people are just going to laugh at us.
02:47If I were like, hey, they got one of the best rosters under 25, and they're a five-win team,
02:52they're just going to laugh at me off the radio.
02:54And a guy like Nick, I do, I go through the same amount of emotions that Nick does.
02:59I love Nick's call.
03:00Because I have to tell, he has to admit that money doesn't count, and I do think that we're having
03:05arguments with people who are just not living in reality.
03:09That's, you got, and I know we've made jokes, and I've seen the memes of me being the cult leader,
03:13and they're funny.
03:14But if I'm going to lead a cult, you see, I have to have people suspend reality.
03:18I'm not suspending reality.
03:20There is a very distinct chance, as I said on this show, the day that they were hiring Todd Munkin,
03:26that I was getting texts from more than one people that he likes Deshaun Watson.
03:31It wasn't the selling point, but that's what it was.
03:34I've been willing to accept that since day one, that if Deshaun Watson is better, then Deshaun Watson should play.
03:40If you're going to leave the decision up to Todd Munkin.
03:42Well, all of our conversation has been, if it's a tie, which I guess, I guess, what is the likelihood
03:48that it truly would even be close?
03:50In the end, do we think this is going to be a close competition, or will somebody make it so
03:56obvious in the first week and a half, two weeks, that we're wasting our time?
04:01This is the issue, guys.
04:02And I think a lot of people agree with me on this.
04:04And I'm going to get to the phones here in a second.
04:06I don't think anybody's going to run away with a job.
04:09Someone's just going to look way worse than the other one.
04:12Am I wrong?
04:13Well, then that would sound like what the national people have said, which is this is the worst, or one
04:18of the worst quarterback rooms in the NFL.
04:19I think it will come down to, I want it to be the other way.
04:24I want a lot of things.
04:25I think it's going to come down to one's going to look way worse than the other one.
04:28That's the way it goes.
04:30Not a good quarterback room.
04:32And they know it, and that's why they made the move they did.
04:34And that's okay.
04:37We are in the process.
04:39You know, for this year, I hope that we have some good Sundays.
04:42I hope that they're better than the six wins I think that they can get this year.
04:48I really, really do.
04:49Because there are some young, talented players there.
04:52But again, people laugh when I say that, and they've done nothing to back me up on that statement.
04:57So they have to go out there and do it.
04:59So I'm going to get laughed out of the building for the next year, and then we've got to go
05:02into next year and hope that there's going to be a guy there.
05:05So that's where it's going to be, and I'm willing to accept that.
05:07I want to see good play from the young ones.
05:08I want to see Spencer Fano do well.
05:10I want to see him graded well by guys like Brian Baldinger.
05:13I want to see Carson Swessinger have another good year.
05:18I want to see Mason Graham take that next step in maturation as a defensive lineman.
05:23They tend to get better with age as that goes.
05:25These are things that I can write them down and list them off if you want to.
05:28That's what I'm looking for this year.
05:30If we win some games, that's great.
05:31I'd love to win some games.
05:32I'd love to have the quarterback situation figured out.
05:35I'd love to drop 100 pounds.
05:38Maurice in the Bay Area.
05:40He's listening on the Free Odyssey app.
05:42You're next up on the fan.
05:42Hello, Maurice.
05:44What's good, Ken?
05:45Talk to me.
05:46It's good to talk to you.
05:47Go ahead.
05:47What's wrong?
05:48I appreciate you wasting that last caller.
05:52Wait a minute.
05:52I like that call.
05:53I thought that that was a very civilized good call.
05:56Strong call.
05:57But that don't mean the dude is right.
06:00It's all going to depend on if the door is ready.
06:05Like you guys were saying, we need to stop talking about money.
06:08Deshaun has been paid.
06:10So that's not going to factor into this situation, like, whatsoever.
06:14Depending on how it looks, I think him liking Deshaun since day one, that's fine.
06:21Why hasn't he named him the starting quarterback yet?
06:24Well, because I think they want to – I certainly think that there's a competition there.
06:27And I can't believe I'm saying this because I've said a long time, Maurice and Limeon.
06:32It has nothing to do with Miles getting traded.
06:35Miles getting traded is because of their timeline, kid.
06:39He's over 30.
06:41He's not part of that 25 and under package.
06:44That's why Denzel's possibly going to go.
06:46But besides that, the rest of the crew, they're going to play well.
06:50Yeah, but hold on.
06:51The only thing I would push back at, Mo, is –
06:53Get in here, Tom.
06:53Get in here, Tom.
06:54Yeah, Drake May did just get to the Super Bowl in year two.
06:57So –
06:58What did that mean?
06:59And that team was considered a disaster just a year prior.
07:02They got a great coach, right?
07:05Let's start there.
07:06They had a first-round quarterback, right?
07:09So the expectations were drastically different in a, quote-unquote, weak AFC.
07:16Patrick Mahomes was hurt.
07:17We could go on and on about that.
07:19Lamar was hurt in your own division.
07:21We could go on and on about those things.
07:23Now we have a different situation here with a different coach.
07:27Things should be different, and it depends on how it looks.
07:31Listen to Mary Kay a little bit.
07:33She's on it right now.
07:34Okay.
07:35Maurice, thank you very much for the call.
07:36Now, when you mentioned Drake May, part of that is reasoning, one,
07:40that they weren't in the cap situation we were
07:42because they don't have a $230 million quarterback that is sitting.
07:46They had their draft picks.
07:47They were able to move guys with free agency.
07:51They were able to make some interesting trades there, get some weaponry there.
07:54Will Campbell, I think that he's a guard in the future.
07:58He's playing injured.
07:59I feel bad because I thought he did a pretty good job outside of the injuries.
08:02It just happened to be where he was banged up,
08:04and he failed on the world's biggest stage,
08:06and that's going to follow him around until they get that monkey off their back.
08:09But that's a great example because Maurice says, well, he's a first-round pick.
08:13Okay, but I'm not allowed to use the fifth-round thing for even more time for Shador.
08:17I'm not allowed to do that.
08:18It is funny because the Shador people demand that we call Shador a first-round pick.
08:22Yeah, one really was.
08:24That was Drake May.
08:26Now, Jackson Dart was also,
08:29but it seems like they're not all that excited about the head coach anymore
08:31after a team meeting I just saw.
08:33Can we play that coming up in the final segment there?
08:37People are clowning.
08:38You have too many things to pay off here.
08:40I know.
08:40People are clowning John Harbaugh.
08:42Oh, my God.
08:43I kind of want to zig.
08:45Really?
08:46Or zag.
08:46Which is it?
