00:00We don't necessarily see eye-to-eye on it.
00:01Again, I think it's the offense that he's going to feel the pressure about,
00:04but I think there's an understanding about where the quarterback is.
00:07So I guess maybe the easier question here to kind of continue this on is,
00:11who does it fall on if the Browns don't compete this year?
00:14Because I think everyone's going to kind of look at this if it doesn't go well
00:17and just go, well, that's a mulligan.
00:20Like, I don't think Andrew Barry's going to take the fall for this.
00:22Well, Barry's probably not going to take the fall
00:25because it seems like Barry has just become infiltrated into the Haslam.
00:29He's the new team Podesta.
00:29Yeah, he's going to have this job for a while.
00:31I don't know anybody that thinks that he's going to end up on the outside,
00:34no matter how the season goes, which is incredible
00:37because then we will have extended this to seven years of one playoff win
00:41and you keep your job.
00:42It's an incredible run.
00:43But I do think he's building something,
00:44and I think he's been able to kind of reshape his image in such a way.
00:48It's odd, and this is why you speak to it being not a punch year,
00:52but essentially what we've been describing this as the entire time
00:55where this is just a developmental year is no one takes the fall.
00:58It's not a developmental year.
01:00It just kind of happens.
01:01It's like the hardest type of year to brand because if they end up winning,
01:06they're going to be like, see, we told you this was possible.
01:08And if they end up losing –
01:09Yeah, we always believed.
01:10It's like, no, you didn't.
01:11And if they lose, they're going to be like, well, you know,
01:14youth brings complications.
01:16Like it's almost a roll the bowl out there and see kind of year,
01:19but that's awful branding.
01:21Yeah, well, they're giving themselves like a free pass of sorts.
01:24Mmm, the old Peterlin pass.
01:26The Peterlin pass.
01:27After giving themselves the Peterlin pass for last year.
01:30It's like a built-in –
01:31The Peterlin pass.
01:32It's a built-in Peterlin pass of sorts.
01:35The Peterlin pass.
01:37All right, Mac.
01:38Diminishing returns.
01:39But it's not – it doesn't come from me, so that doesn't make it true.
01:43So it's not a Peterlin pass.
01:44No, it's not.
01:45It's a Peterlin pass.
01:48All right.
01:50Have we broke you?
01:51I just – I have no chance of keeping my train of thought if it's –
01:55It's all these Peterlin passes flying around.
01:57The Peterlin pass.
01:58It's just – right.
02:00They're giving themselves a free roll, Nick.
02:01Mm-hmm.
02:03Which won't be like another way to say that.
02:05No, it's a free roll.
02:05It's a free roll.
02:06Free roll?
02:07We're not using the second half of that.
02:08The LPP?
02:09We're not using the LPP?
02:10A little FR.
02:11A little FR.
02:12It's a nice little free roll.
02:14And that's kind of how they're looking at this.
02:16And if you're giving yourself that, then there's no – what accountability comes at
02:19the end of that?
02:20There's no accountability that comes at the end of that.
02:22Now, 216-474-0092.
02:25I was very upset Mac didn't do that while you were in the middle of saying free roll
02:28because we know what free roll means.
02:30The Peterlin pass.
02:32You can teach a man to fish, you know?
02:34Working on that whole timing thing, Mac.
02:37We'll get there a little – we'll get there soon enough, little buckaroo.
02:40Look, I didn't hear the two magic words.
02:41I wasn't going to hit it at that point.
02:43Oh.
02:43You are – no.
02:45I'm not going to do it.
02:46I'm not firing shots today.
02:47Mac, it's okay, buddy.
02:48You're getting the Peterlin pass today.
02:50The Peterlin pass.
02:51There we go.
02:52Now that we've annoyed all of us and the listeners.
02:55So who does it fall on if the Browns don't compete this year?
02:58Do you have an answer?
02:59Because my answer is I don't think it falls on anybody.
03:00Although I have obviously put out with the last segment that if it ends up being
03:04Munkin, Munkin can't be shocked by that.
03:07I just don't think this is the kind of year that requires a fall guy.
03:12And it does feel like when the Browns were in the peak of the heyday of Baker and even
03:18into the early Deshaun era, if they disappointed a little bit, it was like, you know, Joe Woods
03:24goes over the side of the boat, right?
03:25We got to continue here.
03:26Or then it was AVP and like every year, or it was a specific player, right?
03:31Somebody got it every year as like that.
03:34Ah, this is why we didn't win last year.
03:36I don't think when you're where the guardians are, if it's a rolling out there and see where
03:41it goes kind of year, I don't think it requires one.
03:44I hope, I hope Jimmy specifically, or whoever's truly making the decisions there.
03:48Because it seems to be some sort of a quorum of Haslam family members that they understand
03:54if it's a five-win team or a three-win team, then that's just what it was meant to be.
03:58They've shown extreme patience with Stefanski in that.
04:02We just have too many other instances, whether that's Freddie Kitchens, whether that is Hugh
04:06Jackson, that we fall back on.
04:07But in the Stefanski tenure, if he did anything for himself, he showed a willingness to have
04:12patience to try to see things through to, in some degree, too far.
04:16You know, what's crazy about this is, I think Todd Munkin can win with his team.
04:20And win is relative.
04:22Like, we had, what was it, our guy Willie P on yesterday, Will Palachic of WFNC, one
04:27of the great Catholics in all of sports.
04:29And we asked him about, you know, who wins more, who has more wins this year, Panthers
04:34or Browns?
04:35And I'm going to shock you, he said Panthers.
04:37But his point was, he thinks they're a nine-to-ten-win team.
04:40Yeah, yes, can the Browns get to nine wins?
04:42And I said, I don't think I can get to nine, nine feels a little bit high.
04:46I think they can, but it's like everything goes right for them to get to nine wins.
04:51I think eight wins, though, is very doable in Todd Munkin's first year.
04:56And I think it's low-hanging fruit to put it on the schedule.
04:59Yes, they travel second least of anybody else in terms of miles in the NFL.
05:04Yes, they have one of the five easiest schedules, no matter.
05:08Well, the schedule does matter, though.
05:09Like, it does.
05:09The Patriots, why did they end up in the Super Bowl last year?
05:12Obviously, Drake May is a big portion of that.
05:14They also had the easiest schedule in the NFL in the past 20 years.
05:17Well, but it matters, but I think it's, you're missing the fact, not you, but I mean, whoever's
05:22thinking this is just about schedule, is missing the fact there's a lot of talent on this team.
05:27And yes, it's young, and yes, some of it is unproven.
05:30Welcome to the NFL.
05:32Like, teams with young and proven talent pop up all the time.
05:35I'm glad you mentioned the Patriots, who are a team that, you know, talent-wise for their,
05:40you know, under 25 talent, by ESPN was ranked three spots ahead of the Browns, who were ranked
05:45four.
05:45Yeah, they got a lot of young talent.
05:47So, like, I just, I look at this and I go, man, nobody expects anything from them.
05:53Everyone's written this off as the worst quarterback in the room.
05:55And these are all fair things, by the way, but it's like, easy schedule on every front
06:00you can possibly have.
06:01New head coach with a completely different energy, which I think was needed in, you know,
06:06even in fairness to Kevin Stefanski.
06:08And oh, by the way, you've got a lot of talent outside of the quarterback position.
06:11Yeah.
06:12And I, they're, I'm just, I'm seeing something that I think no, not too many other people
06:17are seeing of a competitive team.
06:18And getting to eight wins is a massive win for this team.
06:22While still acknowledging the idea that this is just a developmental year of sorts.
06:26Like, and that, that's where it just becomes easier.
06:28And that's where we, when we talk about pressure and everything, there just doesn't, it just
06:31doesn't exist the same way than if you're the Rams.
06:34It just, it just does not exist the same way.
06:36So if you are just joining us, ESPN put out their, uh, under 25 cast and, and the Browns
06:42ranked fourth teams ahead of them were the Patriots, the Texans in the bears, and then the
06:48Titans were right after them.
06:50Conveniently, the Browns are the only team in that top five that does not have a young
06:52quarterback to build around today, unless you're a, uh, avid Shador believer.
06:57And I think what's interesting about that is I think that the Browns might have finally
07:02lucked into the right way of doing this.
07:04And what I think they were trying to do in, you know, 16, 17 and 18, and then just kind
07:10of didn't get the mix, right.
07:11Didn't draft well enough before they got Baker, which is every, you're basically building
07:16everything out so that the quarterback can step in.
07:19Hold on.
07:20They drafted, right.
07:21That I, I, I mean, there was, there was a lot that was there to that.
07:23I mean, that's miles Garrett.
07:24That's, that's Nick Chubb.
07:25That is 18, but 16 and 17.
07:28Their drafts were awful.
07:30It was miles Garrett.
07:32It was David and Joku.
07:33It was a Denzel Ward.
07:34It was Nick Chubb.
07:35That was 18 was Denzel Ward.
07:36Um, like there was, they hit on a lot of different picks though.
07:39I think they hit on like four picks in 16 and 17.
07:43That was those, especially 16.
07:45Maybe I'm waiting it too much on 16.
07:46I think you're waiting it too much on 16.
07:47But like your best pick out of 16, I think was Joe Sjobert.
07:50I think you're putting too much maybe on 16.
07:51I was thinking more, I'm putting more 17 and 18.
07:53Well, I don't know.
07:54I mean, with 17 and 18 though, there's a lot of hits there.
07:57It's Baker, Denzel, Nick Chubb, Miles Garrett, David and Joku.
08:01So I think the point is in, where did they get it wrong?
08:05Cause if we're going to get, if I'm going to give them hits in 17 and 18, the same
08:08way we're going to give them hits now for what did say, I'm already giving them hits
08:11for this last year.
08:12You know what I mean?
08:13But like, where, where did they get it wrong?
08:15Where in that step did they get it wrong?
08:17Cause I really, I'll maintain this.
08:18They built a good team.
08:19That was a, it was one of the best offensive lines in the game at the time.
08:22By the time you got Baker going, but one of the best offensive lines in the game,
08:25you had offensive skill positions coming out of the, you know what they had a good
08:29defense.
08:29It wasn't a great defense.
08:30It was very hit or miss.
08:31Where did they miss that this Browns team and we're really Andrew Barry can look at
08:35it and say, we need to make sure we don't fall into that trap.
08:37I think we're giving them from 16 to 20.
08:40Cause that's how long it took to build that team.
08:42If they had, let's say they had taken a Tyreek Hill or a Dak, Dak Prescott's different
08:48cause he's a quarterback or a Cooper cup or a Kareem hunt or a Alvin Kamara, or just
08:53thinking of the guys available in 16 and 17.
08:56Uh, maybe you take Taylor Decker instead of their practice at the time instead, instead
09:00of, cause they, they started whiffing on wide receivers.
09:03Right.
09:03And it turned, it turned into then, well, we're going to trade for him.
09:06We'll trade for Jarvis.
09:07We'll trade for Odell.
09:08That then became their practice.
09:09So what happened is because they didn't do a good enough job the two years before they
09:14got Baker and even again, Miles Garrett and David and Joku, fair to say, but they, those
09:19were really their two biggest hits and everybody else was roster fodder from those drafts.
09:24I think that's where they messed up.
09:26And that's why I think this is different.
09:28I've got four proven players at the last year's draft.
09:31Dylan Sampson could still be somebody, you know, theoretically should not theoretically,
09:35but should or could still be somebody theoretically Dylan Gabriel could still be someone.
09:39If you get three or four players from this draft and Oh, by the way, you've got guys like
09:44Hickman.
09:44That's a holdover Delpit.
09:46That's a holdover Isaiah McGuire, Alex, right?
09:50Like Mason Graham's gonna be a little different, but like, you've got enough talent here to
09:54go, Hey, if, if just, if we have the same success from last year's draft to this year's
09:58draft, we're going into the next year.
10:00And it's not that they won't have holes.
10:02It's just that that quarterback's not stepping into the gap that Baker was like they were,
10:08they were about 40% built when Baker stepped in.
10:11And I, between that and the inconsistency and turnover at quarterback or offensive coordinator
10:16head coach, I think that's where they screwed Baker up.
10:18I just kind of thought they, they just never took the approach that this should take a million
10:21years to be put together, which is something funny because Andrew Barry has echoed that
10:25same approach.
10:26This doesn't take five years.
10:27This isn't baseball.
10:28You can do this quicker.
10:29And I've always felt that was kind of the approach.
10:31They just, they, they, I, you want to say rushed it.
10:33That might be a fair way to put it, but they definitely sped up that process of what it
10:36should take and what it should be.
10:38And then, and then, yeah, you say 40% right.
10:40You're not wrong.
10:41It's just interesting.
10:42Like, I think if again, four guys hit in this draft with the other guys that have hit in
10:46last year's draft, I think you're closer to like 75% of what you need.
10:51And again, it's got to be wide receiver.
10:52You got to get a really strong wide receiver out of this with Fannin.
10:56You've got to make sure that the offensive line is at least 60% filled long-term.
10:59But if you do those things, yeah, it's going to be pretty easy to plug and play the quarterback
11:04and then, you know, kind of fill in with free agency around that.
11:07I mean, it's hard though.
11:08That's, that's part of the NFL, right?
11:09It's hard to just hit on as many draft picks and try to make that all work.
11:12That is hard.
11:12I don't think it's that hard.
11:13Well, I mean, clearly it's hard.
11:15I'm kidding.
11:16It's really impossible for the Browns.
